Walter Miller

ETHELSVILLE - Walter Miller, age 76, died August 6, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. today. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

William Franklin Bryant

TUSCALOOSA - William Franklin Bryant, 69 of 101 Hackberry Lane Apt. 814, died August 5, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. today at Memory Hill Gardens. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bryant; sons, Roger Franklin Bryant (Tina) and Allen Hardy Bryant (Lori); sisters, Ann B. Hembree, Betty B. Kitchen and Allene B. Grassi; brothers, Samuel M. Bryant and Joseph E. Bryant; father, Allen Hardee Bryant and mother, Ollie Kornegay; grandchildren, Kory, Kayla, Michael and Heather.

Nannie Morrison Sumner

TUSCALOOSA - Nannie Morrison Sumner, 86 of 2014 2nd Ave., died August 6, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Payne officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to service. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Sumner, son, John G. Sumner, and grandson, Joey E. Sumner.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley Sumner Walker, Tuscaloosa and Patricia Sumner Galloway, Merritt Island, Fla.; son James L. Sumner, Tuscaloosa; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 23 years. She lived her life devoted to God, her family and others.

Pallbearers will be Ron Galloway, Larry Walker, Jeff Walker, John B. Sumner, Jim Sumner, Trey Walker, Kenneth Donaldson and Lindberg Sudduth.

Edna Brown

TUSCALOOSA - Edna Brown, died August 2, 2002 at DCH Health System. Services will be held at First African Baptist Church, Saturday August 10, 2002 at 12 Noon. Rev./Dr. James O. Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. today at Van Hoose and Steele Chapel. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Van Hoose and Stele Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include her brothers, Val Pippens, Lester White, and Arthur White; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and Special Caregiver-Yolanda Carter.

Mary Ruth Acker

BUHL - Mary Ruth Acker, 11138 Pate Road Buhl, AL. A life long resident of the Buhl Community passed away Tuesday August 6, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Acker loved nature and loved her children and Grandchildren dearly.

Graveside services will be held 10:00am Friday at Cornelius Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Alfred Banks and Rev. Albert Lyles officiating. Visitation will be Thursday night 6pm-8pm at the funeral home. Magnolia Chapel Northport is directing.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Skelton, granddaughter Janet Renee Skelton and Great-Granddaughter Tiffany Kelly.

Survivors include her husband James B. Acker Sr. of Buhl, AL. Son James B. Acker Jr. of Buhl, AL., daughter Debra A. Abston of Tuscaloosa, sons in law Billy Wayne Skelton and Lewis Abston; Grandchildren, Michael Wayne Skelton (Pam), Annette Kelly (Butch) Teresa Pritchett (Darrell); Great Grandchildren, Mike Skelton, Miranda Skelton, Brandon Kelly, Brandon Kelly, Brad Kelly, Justin Pritchett, and Courtney Pritchett.

Pallbearers will be Lewis Abston, Michael Wayne Skelton, Michael Wayne Skelton Jr., Darrell Pritchett, Brandon Kelly, Bradley Kelly, Bev Leigh, Albert Holman, Justin Pritchett, Courtney Pritchett and Miranda Skleton.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. George P. Miller, Dr. John P. Summerford, Associates and Staff. Forrest Manor Nursing Home Administration, Nursing Staff and Cna’s on Station 1. Martin Ray, Ray Ward, Borden Ray, Thomas Powe, Johnathan McGee.

If you Love the Lord as the Lord Loves you, to every ending there is a new beginning. Mary Ruth has a new beginning.

The family requests that a memorial be sent to the Buhl Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.

Virgie T. Sansing

COTTONDALE - Virgie T. Sansing, age 98, of 6105 Golden Acres Drive, died August 9, 2002 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Carmel Church Cemetery in Lamar County. Rev. Ron Manley will officiate. Visitation is tonight from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Sansing, son, Jessie R. Sansing, daughter-in-law, Hazel H. Sansing, and son-in-law, Roswell Dunn.

Survivors include daughter, Frances Perkins (Lloyd), Northport; son, Charlie Sansing (Barbara), Cottondale; grandchildren, Rayvon Sansing, Charles Sansing, Billy Sansing, and Joy Posey, 10 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, and special friend, Audrey Standridge.

Pallbearers will be great grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Bentley, Dr. Jerre White, Dr. Douglas Reynolds, Dru Geer, Jennie Priester, Mr. & Mrs. E. C. Lynn, Rev. & Mrs. Ron Manley, Mr. & Mrs. J. C. Hampton, Doris Dunn, Netie Dillard, George & Gayle Pritchett, and all friends of Carroll’s Creek Baptist Church.

Michael Lindsey

ALICEVILLE - Michael Lindsey, age 26, died August 2, 2002, in Rockford, Ill. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dancy First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Lavender Funeral Service directing. the body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Laura Walker

TUSCALOOSA - Laura Walker, age 52, died August 2, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11 a.m. today, Greater Emanuel Mission Holiness Church. Bishop Beulah Colvin, pastor and Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating minister. Burial will follow in West Highland Memorial Gardens with Wills' Funeral Service directing.

Tom King

GREENSBORO - Tom King, age 89, 43 King Hill Road, died August 3, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Cleveland Gooden officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Washington-Paige-Rollins' Mortuary of Green sboro directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Gina Lanell Junkin

GORDO - Gina Lanell Junkin, age 32, of 635 Garden Dr. Apt. A-3, died August 9, 2002 at her residence. Arrangements will be announced later by Skelton Funeral Home.

Carolyn W. Albright

NORTHPORT - Carolyn W. Albright, age 61, of 13180 Highway 171, died August 7, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sand Springs United Methodist Church, Rev. Mike Bush, Rev. Alton Bridges and Rev. Paul Peeples officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation is tonight from 7-9 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

She was preceded in death by husband, George D. Albright; parents, Clarence O. and Ira Swann Winsett; sister, Helen W. Blanton and brother, Otto Winsett.

Survivors include daughter, Renee H. Fields (Jack) of Danville; sons, Brian Albright (Heather) of Northport; grandchildren, Jason S. fields of Danville, Reagan Albright of Northport and Dawson Albright of Northport; mother-in-law, Sarah Albright; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Emily) Albright of Gordo; Robert Blanton of Remlap; nephews, Jamey Albright of Gordo, Jeremy Albright of Gordo; niece, Terri Blanton of Remlap.

Active pallbearers will be Jamey Albright, Jeremy Albright, Britt Atchley, Jason Fields, Cret Shamblin and Edwin Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers are Rudy and Peggy Gibson, Pug Montgomery, Cecil Gann, Hilda Oswalt, Mary Ann Johnson, Dr. Pam Hughes, Dr. Richard Shamblin, Louise Clanton and sons, Tommy and Susan Winters, Jeff Wheat, Sand Springs United Methodist Church and community.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, Sand Springs United Methodist Church.

Infant Angel Lee

COATOPA - Infant Angel Lee, of Coatopa, Alabama passed August 8, 2002 in Demopolis, Alabama. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, August 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Hill Cemetery, Coatopa, Alabama. Rev. Floyd Bell, officiating. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama directing.

Alexander "Buddy" Hughes

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Mr. Alexander "Buddy" Hughes, age 74, formerly of the Palmetto Community, died August 4, 2002 at ValleyHealth Care Center in San Bernardino, California. Services will be held Sunday, August 11, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church in Reform, Alabama. Burial was in Riverside, California.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Hughes, his father, Garon Hughes, and a brother, E. J. Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Hughes, Calif.; daughter, Diane Hughes, Calif.; sons, David Hughes and Kim Hughes, Calif.; sister, Bettie Brazeal, Reform; half-sisters, Evelyn Shelton and Geneva McDaniel both of Reform; half-brother, Tommy Hughes, Kennedy; step-mother, Dora Hughes, Reform; and two grandchildren.

Ruth Northcutt Daffron

GADSDEN - Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park for Lillian Ruth Northcutt Daffron, 86, Gadsden, who passed away at her home on Thursday, August 8, 2002. The Revs. Larry Fuhrman and J. T. Harrell will officiate. Visitation will be following the graveside service. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruth was a native of Tuscaloosa County where for many years she and her husband owned and operated Daffron’s Grocery in Alberta City. She later worked and retired from Reichhold Chemicals. She was a member of Alberta Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. For the past 13 years, she has been a resident of Gadsden and a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden where she received love and encouragement from her many friends in her Sunday School Class, Senior Adult Choir, and Body Recall group. The love her family feels from her now is only magnified as she is now absent from the body and present with the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raiford Killian Daffron; son, George Henry; and a baby daughter.

She is survived by a son, Raiford H. (Ray) Daffron (Betty); daughter, Dennis D. Keeling (the late Dr. John Berry Keeling); grandchildren, Scott, Lee, and John-Paul Daffron; Jan, Susan, Sally Keeling (Scott) Sewell, and John Jerome Keeling; and special sister-in-law, Dorothy Northcutt.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, nephew George Langley, Scott Sewell, Scott Goodwin, and Jason McKay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Daffron, Earl McCool, Dr. Todd Cross, Mike and Ann Goodson, Caroline Antonelli, Martha Vickery, Shirley Burgess, and her Sacred Harp and Christian Harmony friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden, P. O. Box 456, Gadsden, AL 35902.

Aubrey A. Hoggle

MOUNDVILLE - Aubrey A. Hoggle, age 84, of 220 Griffin Circle, died August 9, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing.

Bobbie Thomas

BROOKWOOD - Bobbie Thomas, died August 11, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church in Brookwood, Tuesday August 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Memory Chapel. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
