Dr. Nell Chism May

COLUMBUS, Miss. - Dr. Nell Chism May, died August 21, 2001 in Pensacola, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Merenzo Louis Chism and Daisy Elizabeth Jackson Chism of Berry, Alabama.

Dr. May received degrees from The University of Alabama and Mississippi State University and was retired Professor Emeritus from Mississippi University for Women. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma; Daughters of the American Revolution, Shuk-ho-ta Tom-a-ha Chapter; United Daughters of the Confederacy, Stephen D. Lee Chapter; Genealogy Society; and United States Air Force Retired Officers Wives Club.

Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of cremation with private interment in Berry City Cemetery, Berry, Alabama.

Dr. May was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lomax Louis May. She is survived by two sons, James J. May of Columbus, Mississippi and Dr. John L. May, daughter-in-law, Lisa May, granddaughter, Justine May of Pensacola, Florida.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Daniel Forrest Haggard

TUSCALOOSA - Daniel Forrest Haggard, 68, died August 29, 2001 at Northport Medical Center. Services will be held at Heritage Chapel on Friday at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Hattie B. Bostic

TUSCALOOSA - Hattie B. Bostic, 81, 2909 20th Street, died August 26, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at Bailey Tabernacle CME Church, Saturday, August 1, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Willie Clyde Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant CME Church, Knoxville, Ala. Visitation will be Friday afternoon. Williams Funeral Service is directing.

Sam Tate

NORTHPORT - Sam Tate, 65, 1528 10th Street, died August 27, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at New Zion Baptist Church on September 1, 2001 at 1 p.m., with Rev. E. J. James officiating. Burial will follow in West Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 12-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Wills' Funeral Service is directing.

Pauline Barnett Sartain

TUSCALOOSA - Pauline Barnett Sartain, 96, died August 29, 2001 at Heritage Health Care Center. Graveside Services will be held today at 11 a.m., in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, with Rev. Joseph Robinson officiating. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is survived by a daughter, Nell S. Selby; brothers, J. T. Barnett, Walter Barnett; grandchildren, Elaine S. Alley, Sandra S. Lasher; four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to one's favorite charity.

Clifford Dean Remaley

TUSCALOOSA - Clifford Dean Remaley, 77, passed away August 29, 2001 at The Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Ala, after a long illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lake United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Carboni officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 31, 2001 from 6 – 8 p.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Remaley; son, Richard (Jeanette), Missouri City, Texas; daughter, Connie Grechanik (Jeffery), Yorktown, VA.; granddaughters, Jennifer Hamner (Jim), Tuscaloosa; Farah Halford (Paul), Columbus, Ga.; Katie Remaley, Missouri City, Texas; grandson, Chris Norris (Anna), Mclean, Va.; great grandchildren, Paul Emerson and Nicholas Halford, Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Delbert Remaley (Letha), Twin Falls, ID; sisters in law, Grace Remaley, Seneca, Pa.; Janet Remaley, McDonough, Ga.; Lucile Malcom (George) Monroe, Ga.; and Ruth Hunt (Dock) Athens, Ga.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Harry E. Hubbard and saw action in the battle for Okinawa.

His career with the Department of Veterans Affairs began in 1946 in Washington, DC as a purchasing agent. New VA Hospital were needed to serve the WW II Veterans an he helped to open the one in Erie, PA., Philadelphia, PA., and Salisbury, NC. He also served the VA in Atlanta, Ga., Dayton, OH., and Tuscaloosa, Ala. He retired on disability from the VAMC in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

He was a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church and The National Association for Retired Federal Employees.

The family expresses appreciation to the staff of the VAMC in Tuscaloosa, Drs. Lydia Stefanescu, Pedro Lopez, Sakina Kamal, and his many caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Forest Lake United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

Infant Kenyel Hall
TUSCALOOSA - Infant Kenyel Hall, died August 30, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced later by the funeral home. Wills' Funeral Service is directing.

Aaron Griffin

NORTHPORT - Aaron Griffin, 87, 125 West Circle, died August 30, 2001 at his residence. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 11 a.m., in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Bro. Dwight Beams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Arbor Springs Baptist Church. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport is directing.

Survivors include his niece, Sara Adams, Birmingham; nephew, Curtis Bell, Tuscaloosa; several great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Griffin Was a WW II Veteran and served in the U. S. Army.

Carl Ellis

TUSCALOOSA - Carl Ellis, 43 of 3241 18th Place, died August 26, 2001, in DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral plans will be held Friday, August 31, 2001 at 11 a.m. from Tabernacle AME Zion Church. Rev. Moses Madison will officiate. Burial will follow in Norfleet Cemetery, Newbern, Ala with Rollins' Mortuary directing. He will lie in state at the church one hour prior to funeral time.

Charlene Tidwell

FAYETTE - Charlene Tidwell, 68, of 548 Co. Road 80, died September 2, 2001 at her residence. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Tidwell Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette is directing.

Jerry William Morlock

FAYETTE - Jerry William Morlock, 62, of 822 8th Street S.E. , died September 1, 2001 at Riverview Medical Center. Services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist. Norwood Funeral Home of Fayette is directing.

Louise F. Carpenter

EUTAW - Louise F. Carpenter, 91, Rt. 1 Box 219, died September 1, 2001 at Green e County Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. David Glasgow and Rev. Carl Suddeth will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Stabler-Robbins Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Carpenter and grandson, Robert Michael Carpenter.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara C. Hollingsworth, Eutaw; son, Robert L. Carpenter (Jackie), Robbinsville, N.C.; grandchildren, Allison Beckum (Chad), Deborah Zervus and John Carpenter.

Pallbearers will be Otis Espey, Greg Espey, H. J. Hollingsworth, Joe Riley, Brantley Riley, Dr. Emmett Gunnels, William Levert, and Bill Hearn.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Alabama Baptist Children's Home.

Alfred E. Parker

COTTONDALE - Alfred E. Parker, 75, Cottondale, died Sunday September 2, 2001.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday September 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Pastor Jared Rarrick. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Muller Parker; daughters, Stephanie "Koot" (Troy) Hinton, Patricia "Tint" (Monty) Channell; son, David (Kimberly) Parker; sisters, Brazzie (Tony) Ireland, Mattie Sue McDaniel, Frances (Rufus) Tidmore; brothers, Manley (Louise) Parker, Houston (Dean) Parker; grandchildren, Melissa Channell, Michelle (Roger) Smith, Dax Hinton, Beth Gilmore, Joshua Gilmore.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Pamela Hughes and All employees of Southeast Cancer Network, Henry Slappy and employees of DCH Northport out patient employees, Dr. Jeffery Parker and staff, Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. T. Mark Ricketts, Employees of Alabama Credit Union and Special Friend, Justin Rarrick.

Eloise W. Kemp

TUSCALOOSA - Eloise W. Kemp, 75, died September 2. 2001 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday September 5th at 11 a.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Mr. Doug Milligan officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 6-9 at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is survived by her husband, James N. Kemp, Tuscaloosa; Daughter, Norma (Mayo) Junkin, Reform; son, James E. (Anne) Kemp, Hoover; Sister, Margaret ( Woody, Sr.) Latham; grandchildren, James A. (Susan) Junkin, Northport, David A. Junkin; great-grandson, Patrick Junkin; Niece, Peggy Schmitz, Montgomery; nephews, Ronald Latham, Terry Kemp, both of Birmingham, Bruce Kemp of Bessemer, Steve Kemp also of Bessemer and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Kemp was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa.

Pallbearers will be Everette Geddie, David Junkin, James Junkin, Ronald Latham, Peter Schmitz and J. C. White.

Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Doctors, Nurses and staff of DCH Regional Medical Center and Helen Green .

If you prefer to make a donation, the family request memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama.

John C. Howell Sr.

COKER - John C. Howell Sr., 44, 15507 Forest Green Dr., died September 2, 2001 Northport Medical Center. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Sunset Funeral Home.
