Fred Lamar Daws

CENTREVILLE - Fred Lamar Daws, 78, passed away on April 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elia Griffin Daws; one daughter, Carol Dale and son-in-law, Jeff Dale of Omaha, Neb.; one son, David Daws and daughter-in-law, Nancy Daws of Shelby County, Ala.; two grandchildren, Amy Daws and David Dale; and one brother, Harold Daws of Booneville, Miss.

He was a native of Dekalb, Miss., son of J.M. Daws and Ruby Gully Daws. After 39 years in education he retired as principal of Centreville Elementary School in 1985. During WWII, he served as a medic in the Army 315th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart with the Oak Leaf Cluster, and Bronze Star for actions during the Battle of the Bulge. He was an active member of Centreville United Methodist Church, serving as board chairman for several years. He was also a past president of the Kiwanis Club.

Services will be at Centreville Methodist Church at 11 a.m. today with burial to follow at Big Oak United Methodist Church in Kemper County Miss., at 4 p.m. that afternoon. Visitation is one hour prior to service. Rockco Funeral Home is directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Centreville United Methodist Church.

Salaranio W. Williams

TUSCALOOSA - Salaranio W. Williams, 74, died April 25, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home (directing).

David Jack Perry

FAYETTE – David Jack Perry, 81, of 918 County Road 38 East, died May 3, 2001, at his residence. Services will be held at Fayette Church of Christ today at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Heritage Memorial Gardens. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Jonas C. Smothers

BOLIGEE - Mr. Jonas C. Smothers, 87, died April 27, 2001, at Green e County Hospital. Services will be at Little Zion Baptist Church, Tishabee, Ala., on Saturday at noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Gandy Funeral Home is directing.

Ann Elizabeth Elliott (Findlay)

TUSCALOOSA - Ann Elizabeth Elliott (Findlay), died April 27, 2001, at the age of 64, at LaRocca Nursing Home. A memorial service will be at Christ Episcopal Church, 605 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd., N., on Monday at 4 p.m. A "Celebration of Her Life" will be held for her friends and family at 1608 Alaca Place after the service. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

A native of Huntsville, Ala., and a long time resident of Tuscaloosa, she was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Holmes and George Shannonhouse Elliott.

She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Way Thornell (Jake), Ruth Findlay Reynolds (Robert), George Cary Findlay; three grandchildren, Winston Elliott Way, Thaddeus Winfield Way and Elizabeth Robbins Thornell; and two sisters, Helen Elliott Sockwell and Addie Woodroof Wilson.

She was a graduate of St. Mary's Episcopal School, Raleigh, N.C., and the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was a member of the Junior League of Tuscaloosa and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church or Hospice of West Alabama.

Timothy Sean Abernathy

FOSTERS - Timothy Sean Abernathy, 21, of 13709 Abernathy Road, died April 28, 2001, at his residence. Complete funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

Jennifer Adams Noland Haywood

MOUNDVILLE – Jennifer Adams Noland Haywood, 21, died May 3, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center due to a motorcycle accident. Services will be at Moundville Baptist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Boothe, the Rev. Randy Fuller and the Rev. Ed King officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhill Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 p.m. Oakhill Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her father, Gary D. Noland; grandfather, Clarence Noland; and husband, Gabriel Haywood.

Survivors include her son, Mason Adams Haywood, Moundville; sisters, Katlin Wilkins, Vance and Maggie Wilkins, Vance; brother, Larry Noland, Tuscaloosa; parents, Mrs. Deborah Grambou (Dennis); grandparents, Larry Rogers (Carolyn), Norma Rogers, Hazel Noland (John), great grandmother, Clemmie Matterson, Clemy Smelley; cousin, Destin Lancaster and aunt, Rhonda Lancaster (Tim).

Pallbearers will be Harold Fife, Dale Boothe, David St. John, Shawn Boothe, Donald Wayne Sanders and Mack Ragland.

Honorary pallbearers are Terry Merritt and employees of World Wide Travel and Education Tour, Friends of Moundville and Buhl, Trinity Christian Center.

George Albert Parker

BELK - George Albert Parker, 52, 107 Church St., died May 9, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be at Norwood Chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Norwood Chapel of Fayette is directing.

Kaye Ingle

GUIN - Kaye Ingle, 61, died May 1, 2001. Services will be held at Guin First Baptist Church on Friday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Guin City Cemetery. Norwood Funeral Home of Guin is directing.

Timothy Sean Abernathy

FOSTERS - Timothy Sean Abernathy, 21, of 13709 Abernathy Road, died April 28, 2001, at his residence. Graveside services are today at 4 p.m. at Grants Creek Baptist Church, in Foster s, with the Rev. Randy Pate officiating.

Timothy Sean is survived by his parents, Foster and Peggy Abernathy; brothers, Anthony Scott Abernathy and Jason Calvert Abernathy; grandparents, Joe and Anna Marie Ewing; a nephew, Austin Scott Abernathy; sister-in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

All friends and family are invited to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in the memory of Timothy Sean Abernathy to the Gideon Memorial Bibles, P.O. Box 40295. Tuscaloosa, AL 35404

Arlean Waldrop Brock

FAYETTE – Arlean Waldrop Brock, 88, of 811 County Road 47, died May 11, 2001, at her residence. Services will be held at Norwood Funeral Home Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norwood Funeral Home (directing).

Clister Watkins Johnson

FAYETTE - Clister Watkins Johnson, 91, died May 5, 2001, at Fayette Long Term Care Center. Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Stamps officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6–8 p.m. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include her husband George Harvey Johnson, Fayette, Ala.; daughters: Katherine W. Pratt, Fayette, Ala., and Evelyn Hamm, Danville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 great- great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marty Cash, James Robbins, Gary Meeks, Paul Davis, Mitch Hamm and Mike Hamm.

Korey Trey Brown

TUSCALOOSA - Korey Trey Brown, 15, son of James and Sandra Brown of 2211 58 St. East, left this earth and went to a better place on May 8, 2001 at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Korey was a 10th grade student at Hillcrest High School where he was active in Hillcrest Marching Band, JROTC and Hillcrest Show Choir.

Services are today at First African Baptist Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. James O. Ellis, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The body will lie in state at the church today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Professional services provided by Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Directors.

Honorary pallbearers are 4th Floor Nurses and Staff at Children’s Hospital, Children’s Harbor, Children’s Hospital Doctors and Staff, Hillcrest High Marching Band, Hillcrest High JROTC, Hillcrest Middle and High School Faculty, staff and student body, and Tuscaloosa County counselors.

Active pallbearers are his brothers.

Glendon Nuckols

NORTHPORT - Glendon Nuckols, 64, 2809 42nd Ave., died May 9, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be at Magnolia Chapel in Northport today at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport is directing.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nuckols; son, Sean Lee; sister, Delilah Nuckols; brother, Gorman Nuckols; sister-in-law, Muriel Nuckols, all of Northport, many special nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Doctors and Nurses of DCH Regional Medical Center Admissions, Angio Dept., and Cancer Center, members of Jennings Chapel Methodist Church, friends and neighbors of Northport, retired and present employees of Golden Flake Snack Foods, Inc., Coleman and Betty Campbell, Jane Coleman, Willie Hannah, Shane Hollingsworth, Joe and Brenda Long, Annette Shirley, Tim and Marie Shirley, Joe and Grace Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. George Truelove and Karen Vandiver.

John Edward Nagle

FAYETTE - John Edward Nagle, 51, 2811 Hwy 18 East, died May 9, 2001, at her residence. Services will be at a later date in Altoona, Pa. The remains were cremated. Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette is in charge of arrangements.

Lester Dent Sr.

TUSCALOOSA – Lester "Les" Dent Sr., 4008 22nd St. N.E., died April 30, 2001, at his home. Services are at Central High School West Campus Auditorium at noon today with the Rev. J. Herbert Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. The body will lie in state at Central High School Auditorium on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Professional services provided by Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Joyce Wells-Dent; his father, Arthur Dent Sr.; sister, Margaret Dent; two brothers, Arthur Dent Jr. and Horace Dent.

Survivors include his two daughters, Tel Kelia (Henry) Wells Tucker and Wendy Knox; son, Lester Dent Jr.; mother, Sarah Dent; sisters, Jennifer Dent, Pearlene (Eddie) Rollins and Julia Howard; brothers, Tommie (Angela) Dent, James Dent, Billy Dent, Clyde Dent, Vernon (Tracy) Dent and Samuel Dent; mother-in-law, Rose Wells; grandchildren, Aaliyah Wells, Jasmine Knox and LaShauna Knox; three brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, Samuel (Jean) Wells, Henry Lee (Shirley) Wells, Ricky (Darlene) Wells, Hattie W. (Al) Lockett, Mary N.W. (Lawrence) Willis, Bonnie W. Johnson, Mattie Dent, Rosemary Dent; three aunts; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be nephews, cousins and brothers-in-law.

Honorary pallbearers are employees of The Tuscaloosa City School and employees of McDonald Hughes Center.

Usher Morning Star Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, St. John AME Church and friends.

O.V. Strother

TUSCALOOSA - O.V. Strother, 73, of 4048 Cherrywood Circle, died May 12, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services are at Heritage Chapel today at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Strother of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Sheila Estes (Mike) of Columbus, Miss.; son, Sammy Strother of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Lisa Strother of Tuscaloosa and Mike Estes of South Carolina; nephew, Joe Tierce (Joyce) of Tuscaloosa, mother-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Kelly.

Mr. Strother serviced in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired from B.F. Goodrich.

Pallbearers will be Gene Richardson, Danny O'Neal, Wallace Lancaster, Nelson Byars, Charlie Sellers and Mike Estes.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of Cherrywood Circle, members of Elks Lodge 393 and VFW Post 6022 and Brownville Coffee Club, nurses of TSICU, Drs. Ferguson, Hill and Krishnamurthy.

Justin Allen Conway

NORTHPORT - Justin Allen Conway, 19, 20853 Max Vintson Rd., died May 12, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernie Deffinger officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be at Memory Hill Gardens. Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne Conway, Riverside, Ca., David R. Morris of West Virginia, Irene Morris of West Virginia, and Hazel Morris of Ca.

Survivors include his parents, James C. and Shelia Elledge, Northport, Jay D. Conway, Riverside, Ca.; grandparents, Lola Ruth Conway Swetow, Riverside Ca., Doyle and Shirley Elledge of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Mellisa Conway, Northport, Brandy Elldge, Northport, Amber Elledge, Northport, and Jamie Elledge, Northport; brothers, James Conway, Northport.

Pallbearers will be Brad Putnam, Chris Rhodes, Adam Rhodes, William (Bubba) Hicks, Billy Jack Stephens, Scottie Gorie, Alex and Tommy.

Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Houston, Chris Cramer, Mathew Howton.
