Lee Roy Roberts

Lee Roy Roberts, 63, of Colcord, Okla., died Jan. 18, 2002, in Grove, Okla. Born Feb. 14, 1938, in Delaware County, Okla., he was the son of Tony Weaver Roberts and Mabel Evaline Morgan Roberts. Roberts, a lifelong resident of Colcord, was a retired building contractor and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his brother Jay Roberts.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Lea and Vicky Roberts both of Colcord and Terrie Anderson of Hugo, Okla.; a sister, Juanita Brown, of Colcord; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces; and a nephew.

Graveside services will be Jan. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Dickson Cemetery near Cherokee City, Ark. with Larry Ellis officiating. Arrangements were made by Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Ark.

Howard Carl Downing

Howard Carl Downing, 82, of Westville, Okla.,, died Jan. 10, 2002, in Fayetteville, Ark. Born June 30, 1919 in Vian, Okla., he was the son of Daniel B. and Viola Lewis Downing.

Downing marriage Ruth Carter, on March 9, 1938, in Fayetteville. He was a retired road construction supervisor for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and was an avid hunter. He attended the Illinois River Baptist Church in Watts, Okla.

He was preced in death by his parents; three e sisters, Deloris Helen Baker, Audrey Thurman Holt and Margaret Eunice Hunter; an infant brother; a half-brother, Mick Hogshooter; a daughter, Carolin Ann Meeker; and a grandson, Billy Ray Downing.

Downing is survived by his wife of Watts, Okla.; a son, Dan Downing of Springdale, Ark.; a daughter, Margorie Hill of Midwest City, Okla.; two adopted sons, Robert Glenn Downing of Pawnee and Robert Daniel Downing of Watts; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 12 at Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville. Interment followed at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home in Westville.

Rita Ivey

Ivey marriage Eck E. Ivey on July 19, 1927, in Urich. She moved to Siloam Springs, Ark., from Kansas City, Mo., in 1976, and resided there until her husband's death in 1992. She moved to Pryor the following year. She was a comptroller at Sears Roebuck and Company until her retirement in 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pryor, taught Sunday School at Armour Heights Baptist Church and Ruskin Heights Baptist Church, and sang in church choirs. She enjoyed crocheting and reading the Bible.

Survivors include a son, Jack Ivey and wife Betty of Montrose, Penn.; a daughter, Janice Keen and husband Jim of Pryor; a sister, Effie Coltra of Cameron, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Nova Ivey of Roff, Okla., and Rose Smith of Lees Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 11 at Stephens Memorial Chapel in Pryor. Graveside services followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs. Services were under the direction of Stephens Memorial Chapel of Pryor.

Anna Carolyn Kelly

Anna Carolyn Kelly, 84 of Rogers, Ark., died Jan. 11, 2002, in Rogers. Born Sept. 13, 1916, in Plains, Kan., she was the daughter of John L. Keece and Helene Griese Keece.

Kelly was a retired farmer, spending most of her life in the Mason Valley and Eagle Corner Communities. She was a member of the Mason Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Donald R. Kelly and wife Lynne of Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters, Helen Allen and husband Don of Tontitown, Ark., and Carol Chase of Rogers; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Jan. 14 at the Mason Valley Baptist Church, with Pastor Luther Scruggs officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at the church. Burial will follow at Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers. Memorials may be given to the Mason Valley Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Ark.

Vera Ruth Lindsey

Vera Ruth Lindsey, 91, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Jan. 9, 2002, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born June 23, 1910, near Cherokee City, Ark., she was the daughter of Emery Howerton and Etta Shaw Howerton.

Lindsey was a lifetime resident of northwest Arkansas. She graduated from high school in Gentry, Ark. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Benton County Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David D. Lindsey; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services were Jan. 11 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Wallace Philpot officiating. Burial followed in Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers, Ark. Services were under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

Retired Col. Pat Wallace Rakestraw

Rakestraw attended the University of Arkansas, receiving his bachelor's degree in accounting with a minor in business. He later received his master's degree in management with a minor in public relations from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He received his commission in the Air Force in 1964, serving as an electronic warfare officer on a B-52 aircraft. After serving his country under various commands, including several tours of duty during the Vietnam War, he retired in 1991. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. He qualified and participated in the 80th running of the Boston Marathon in 1984. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW.

Services were Jan. 12 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Jack Steele officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

Pamela F. Snider

Pamela F. Snider, 53, of Conway, Ark., died Jan. 9, 2002, at Conway Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 7, 1949, in Tahlequah, Okla., she was the daughter of Oleta Eads.

Snider was the assistant physical plant director at the University of Central Arkansas, Conway. She was marriage to Stewart Snider and attended First United Methodist Church in Conway.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Robyn Lancaster of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Roy Eads of Fort Scott, Kan.; and three sisters, Penny Brannon and Deborah Lawrence, both of Bentonville, Ark., and Terri Hall of Siloam Springs, Ark.

She was cremated. Visitation will take place Jan. 13, 2002, from 4-6 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2002, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phillip Hathcock officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faulkner County Humane Society or to the UCA Foundation-Pam Snider Memorial Scholarship Fund, UCA P.O. Box 4986, Conway, Ark., 72035.

Jimmy Teafatiller dies

Jimmy Ray Teafatiller, a long-time Siloam Springs resident and carrier for the Herald-Leader and Neighbor Shopper, died Jan. 5, 2002, at his home. He was 62.

An Oklahoma native, he was born July 6, 1939, in Connerville, Okla., to George Washington Teafatiller and Pearl Edna Sckiel.

On April 8, 1977, Teafatiller marriage Naomi Joy Fletcher in Siloam Springs, where he lived for 25 years. A Baptist, Teafatiller formerly worked at Allen Canning Company. He was also a member of the Department of Emergency Management in Siloam Springs.

"He was always one of the first out for the storm watches," Naomi Teafatiller said. "He received two awards from the Department of Emergency Services. He also trained a bloodhound for search and rescue."

Even after suffering a stroke, Teafatiller remained involved in the community, doing what he was able such as storm watching, Naomi said.

As a newspaper carrier, Teafatiller drove a night shift for the Herald-Leader for many years before switching to a day route for the past seven years for the Neighbor Shopper, which he delivered to the Oklahoma towns of Kansas, Watts and Westville, Don Brooks, Herald-Leader circulation manager, said.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Jimmy Don Teafatiller and wife Kelly of Irving, Texas, Melvin Teafatiller of Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Teafatiller and wife Natalie of Pine Bluff, Ark., Jared Teafatiller and wife Theresa of Cosse, Texas, and Thomas Teafatiller and wife Diann of Siloam Springs; four daughters, Jennifer Funderburk and husband Ronnie of Cosse, and Cynthia Teafatiller, Cathy Ivey and husband Scott, and Courtney Teafatiller, all of Siloam Springs; a sister, Leota Coker of California; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was Jan. 7 at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel in Siloam Springs. The Rev. Edward Billups and the Rev. Marvin Townsend officiated the service, which was under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home.

Wanda Lorene Anderson

Wanda Lorene Anderson, 75, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died April 10, 2002, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 7, 1927, in Lynn, Ark., she was the daughter of M.T. Orrick and Nora Gosha Orrick.

Anderson was the owner/operator of the Anderson Feed Store in Siloam Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Anderson, and two brothers, John Keith Orrick and Wendell Brooks Orrick.

Survivors include two sons, Junior Anderson of Southwest City, Mo., and Larry Dean Anderson of Siloam Springs; a brother, M.T. Orrick Jr. of Rogers, Ark., and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were April 13 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs. Pastor Layton Reed officiated the service, which was under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Anna Mae Burns, 87, of Watts, Okla., died April 11, 2002, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born Oct. 1, 1914, in Chewey, Okla., she was the daughter of Joe Dixon and Bertha Casey Dixon.

Burns was self-employed as a domestic worker and a Baptist.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Jones and Jo Ann Riggins, both of Watts, and Kathy Spears of Summers, Ark.; two sons, Joe Fletcher of Blytheville, Ark., and Johnny Fletcher of Watts; two sisters, Mable Painter of Siloam Springs and Geraldine Kelley of Springfield, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were April 13 at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Beavers officiating. Burial was at Bell Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Luster Norman Butler Sr.

Luster Norman Butler Sr., 80, of West Siloam Springs, Okla., died April 9, 2002, in West Siloam Springs. Born April 1, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ark., he was the son of Jesse Albert and Avis (Murray) Butler.

Butler served during World War II in the U.S. Army Military Police. He marriage Margaret June Tye on July 18, 1942, in Fayetteville, Ark. He was employed several years in the maintenance department at Siloam Springs Public Schools, Siloam Springs, Ark. He was also a retired police dispatcher for the Siloam Springs Police Department. He was a member of the Christie Freewill Baptist Church and served 40 years in the ministry as an evangelist.

Survivors include his children, Jesse F. Butler of Tahlequah, Okla., Carolyn J. Church of Harrison, Ark., Georgia Elaine Reed of Gentry, Ark., Ronald R. Butler of Paris, Texas, Jimmy L. Butler of West Siloam Springs, Lucinda D. Reeves of Muldrow, Okla., Lowell W. Butler of Siloam Springs and Daniel L. Butler of Stilwell; three brothers, Vernon Butler and Gary Butler, both of Westville, Okla., and Coy Butler of Krum, Texas; two sisters, Adean Summers of Olivehurst, Calif., and Etta Frazzel of Rogers, Ark., 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were April 11 at the Christie Freewill Baptist Church, with Brother Fred Nixon and Brother Joe Pigeon officiating. Interment followed at the Westville City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
