Helen Gibson Parks

Helen Gibson Parks, 85, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, Ark. She was born May 11, 1919, in Alamosa, Colo., to Charles E. Gibson and Dorothy Veo Gibson. She lived most of her life in Gentry, Ark., and was a former partner of Parks Lumber Company in Gentry.

Survivors include one son, Mike Parks of Gentry; one daughter, Patricia Parks Verser of Fayetteville; two brothers, William Gibson of Denver, Colo., and Charles Gibson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Gentry United Methodist Church, with Carolyn Doering. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Gentry United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Ark.

Betty Mae Denny

Betty Mae Denny, 67, of Gravette, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Gravette. She was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Delaware County, Okla., to Elmer M. Frye nd Minnie B. Allen Frye.

She was a housewife who helped raise chickens, loved to sew, play the piano and sing, and collected Cabbage Patch dolls. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church near Southwest City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father, one grandson, Brian Lee Denny; and her stepfather, Raymond Foster.

Survivors include her husband Timothy Denny of the home; three sons, Donnie Lee Denny of Maysville, Ark., Gary Wayne Denny and wife Sherry of Goodman, Mo., and Alan Ray Denny of Maysville; two daughters, Donna Harrison of Gravette, and Roseann Moss and husband Donnie of Sarcoxie, Mo.; her mother Minnie Foster of Jay, Okla.; three brothers, Bill Frye of Jay, Okla., George Frye of Southwest City, Mo., and Jake Frye of Jay, Okla.; two sisters, Patsy Hill of Goodman, Mo., and Phyliss Ball of Racine, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Gravette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Cornerstone Church near Southwest City, Mo., the Rev. Ralph Houk. Interment will follow at Maysville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Callison-Lough Funeral Service in Gravette.

Jackie G. Gann

Jackie G. Gann, 65, of Rogers, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Rogers. He was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Lead Hill, Ark., to Thurman Gann and Opal DeShields Gann.

He was a truck driver for Rogers Iron and Metal.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Burnett.

Survivors include his girlfriend, Donna Borum of the home; one sister, Shirley Gann of Bentonville, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Coffelt Cemetery in Vaughn, Ark., with the Rev. Galen Pearcy.

Memorial contributions may be made to NARTI, in care of Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St., Rogers, AR 72756.

Joyce Sumpter

Joyce Sumpter, 72, of Rogers, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at her home. She was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Tulsa, Okla., and grew up in Stillwater, Okla.

She marriage George Sumpter on April 7, 1950, at First Christian Church in Perry, Okla. They moved to Rogers in 1958. Over the years, she was co-owner of the Powder Puff Beauty Salon, and worked with Rogers Elementary School food service in Lowell. Since 1982, she was a Mary Kay beauty consultant and received local and national recognition.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Rogers.

Survivors include her husband, George; chosen daughters, Marnie Nemechek and Roberta Pennington; one aunt, Dottie Fuller of Kingston, Okla.; cousins Joann Club, Sonny Fuller and Jean Ross; brothers and sisters-in-law Donald and Corky Sumpter, Virgil and Ethel Sumpter, Dean and Linda Wehr, Bob and Margaret Schwartz, Elmer and Martha Tipton, and Jo Ann Sumpter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Regional Hospice Foundation, 34 W. Colt Square #1, Fayetteville, AR 72703; or Mary Kay Charitable Foundation, Cancer Research, P. O. Box 799044, Dallas, TX 75379-9044.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Service, Rogers.

Vaughn L. Miller Sr.

Vaughn L. Miller Sr., 66, of Rogers, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was born July 1, 1938, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Wilson Woodrow and Mary Elizabeth Marshall Miller.

He was a truck driver and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Carol of the home; one son, Vaughn L. Miller Jr. of Rogers; one step-son, James Miller of Rogers; one daughter Tammy Wall of Rogers; six grandchildren and many cousins.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Service, Rogers.

Carlos Ray Mulkey

Carlos Ray Mulkey, 57, of Rogers, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers. He was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Fayetteville, Ark., to John Elroy Mulkey and Iva Eunice Wolfe Mulkey.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, worked for GLAD Corporation and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife Glenda of the home; two sons, Scotty Mulkey and Adam Mulkey, both of Rogers; two sisters, Eunice Schoen of Fort Smith, Ark., and Tiny Thompson of Springdale, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Ashley Mulkey and Ethan Mulkey.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Pace’s Chapel Cemetery in Rogers under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home, Rogers. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice, 1001 W. Walnut, Suite 3, Rogers, AR 72756.

Wilbert Emmit Jordan

Wilbert Emmit Jordan, 72, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at his home. He was born March 23, 1932, in Lincoln, Ark., to Oscar Jordan and Maggie Muston Jordan.

He marriage Mary Georgiana Marsh in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 17, 1955. He was retired from Simmons Foods after many years of service. He attended the Christian Life Church in Siloam Springs.

Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, George L. Jordan of Colcord, Okla., and Alan L. Jordan of Gentry, Ark.; two brothers, Franklin Jordan of Hindsville, Ark., and James Jordan of Fayetteville; three sisters, Nina Frazier of Farmington, Ark., Ida Perkins and Ivy Pointer, both of Prairie Grove, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Siloam Springs, with the Rev. Tim Salley. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery east of Siloam Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Pallbearers are George A. Jordan, A. J. Jordan, Ricky Welch, Chris Wheeler, Dustin Escobebo and Justin Jordan.

Nina Joan Coodley

Nina Joan Coodley, 75, of Springdale, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Springdale. She was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Brooklyn, N. Y., to Eugene Boris Winett and Edith Ida Wollman. She was Jewish.

She was self-employed in advertising and public relations. She was retired from the State of California’s Employment Development Department where she was a disabled veterans counselor and worked to help create the Business Labor Council in southern California.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, and one sister, Jaqueline Winett Konisek.

Survivors include her partner of 20 years Joan Kovaleske; one son Gene Leslie Coodley of Belmont, Calif.; one nephew, Colby Konisek of California; one step-son, Joel Coodley of Georgia; and one step-daughter, Myra Coodley of California.

No services are planned at this time.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers, Ark. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Robert Jay Johnson

Robert Jay Johnson, 85, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Glen Elder, Kan., to Jay F. Johnson and Gladys Greenwood Johnson.

He marriage Mildred Josephine Poore on Feb. 5, 1945, in Reno, Nev. The couple moved to Bella Vista in 1988 from Jewell, Kan. He was a life member of the American Legion, a past master and 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Isis Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Josephine Poore Johnson, on Dec. 19, 2002. Survivors include a brother, Richard L. Johnson of Mesa, Ariz.; a cousin, Herb Glidden of Bella Vista; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Beloit, Kan. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lawrence ‘Snowball’ Armstrong

Lawrence ‘Snowball’ Armstrong

Lawrence "Snowball" Armstrong, 80, of Gravette, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Republic, Mo. He was born March 24, 1924, in Arkansas to Larye McFowler and China Mae McFowler.

He was a ride operator for carnivals. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Armstrong; and a stepdaughter, Marsha Duncan.

No visitation is scheduled.

Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Daniel Cemetery in Hiwasse, Ark., with the Rev. Jeff Taylor.

Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Gravette.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Callison-Lough Funeral Service, P. O. Box 798, Gravette, AR 72736, to assist with his final expenses.
