Delbert Eugene Edwardson

Delbert Eugene Edwardson, 84, of Sulphur Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Gravette Medical Center Hospital in Gravette, Ark. He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Edgemere, Idaho, to Ed Edwardson and Flora Nelson Edwardson. He marriage Doris Brinegar on July 2, 1946, in Superior, Mont. He worked as a logger and played minor league baseball in Kellogg, Idaho. The couple moved to Sulphur Springs from Montana in 1977. He was a member of the Sulphur Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed playing the guitar, mandolin and harmonica.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Edwardson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Schneider and Paul Schneider of Gravette, Ark., Judy Duffield and Brad Duffield of Thompson Falls, Mont., and Doyne Rodgers and Dutch Rodgers of Decatur, Ark.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Hiwasse, Ark., with Pastor James Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Rocky Strzelecki, Tim Alsup, Randy Duffield, Brian Schneider, Trent Morrison and Dominic Schneider.

Kerry Brinegar will be an honorary pallbearer.

Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Gravette, Ark.

Carmelo Marsala, 64, of Avoca, Ark., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Monroe, La., to George Marsala and Josephine Zagone Marsala.

He worked for several years as a first mate on tug boats on the Mississippi River and was also employed by Warner Brothers. He enjoyed fishing and animals.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Marsala; three daughters, Trena, Tammy and Sabrina; a stepson, Don Travers Jr.; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Bertie; a nephew, Josh Marsala; three grandchildren, Racelle Shadley, Gerald Travers and Deborah Travers; three great-grandchildren, Tarnah, Dante and Astoria; and several other nieces and nephews. Cremation arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark.

Paul L. Haskins

Paul L. Haskins, 73, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home. He was born Dec. 27, 1931, on a farm near Carroll, Iowa, to Burnell Haskins and Anna Haskins.

He attended grade school in Casey, Iowa, and high school in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating from Des Moines Technical High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served 3 1/2 years, serving with the 18 th Fighter-Bomber Wing in Korea for 1 year. He was honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant.

He worked for Super Valu Stores Inc. in Des Moines for 11 years. He then worked for Pulley Freight Lines Inc. in Des Moines for 23 years.

He marriage Margaret Humphrey in 1953. The couple were later divorced. He marriage Fern Schrader Boucher in 1980.

He moved to Bella Vista in September 1993. He worked for the Sam’s Club Home Office for nearly eight years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bella Vista. He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Fern Haskins; two sons, Steven Haskins of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Christopher Haskins of Bella Vista; two stepdaughters, Lori Boucher of Seattle, Wash., and Elizabeth Copenhagen of Boston, Mass.; a stepson, Don Boucher II of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a brother, Richard Haskins of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Blanche "Pat" Cornwell of Madison, Wis.; and many grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bella Vista VFW Post 9063, 103 Veterans Way, Bella Vista, AR 72714; or to American Legion Post 341 of Bella Vista, Ark.

Florence Muriel Joyce, 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Bentonville Manor Nursing Center in Bentonville, Ark. She was born July 31, 1921 in Dunlap, Kan.

She moved to Bella Vista from Minneapolis, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Burton Joyce, on Aug. 13, 2001; and a son, Gary Eugene Joyce. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Dean Joyce of Topeka, Kan., and Dennis Burton Joyce of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Donna Mae Brandon of Mankato, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, at the Bella Vista Cemetery.

George Arthur Oliver

George Arthur Oliver, 88, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Friday, April 8, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Alberton, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

In 1920, his family moved to the United States. In 1936, he became a naturalized citizen and soon after, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was part of the Submarine Division during World War II, serving in the "Silent Service" in the Pacific Ocean.

He marriage Leona Jackson on Aug. 30, 1943, in San Diego, Calif. The couple lived in Long Beach, Calif., for 50 years. The couple and their two young children went to Taiwan to serve as missionaries. Their missionary work was cut short when his wife was seriously injured by a vehicle in an accident, and the family returned to the United States.

In his early 60s he graduated from the University of California in Long Beach with a degree in history. He was employed by the state of California Employment Development Department until his retirement in 1978. He was a Christian and an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Jackson Oliver, in 1996; a brother, Wendell Oliver; and two sisters, Mildred Martin and Florence Manard.

Survivors include a daughter, Marsha L. Oliver of Siloam Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary J. Oliver and Carrie Oliver of Siloam Springs; two sisters, Beatrice Cook and Grace Oliver, both of Seymour, Conn.; and three grandsons, Nathan Oliver, Matthew Oliver and Andrew Oliver, all of Siloam Springs. Burial will be in Montana, his wife’s birthplace. Bentonville Dorothy C. Keyte Dorothy C. Keyte, 86, of Bentonville, Ark., died Friday, April 15, 2005. Arrangements are pending with Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Bentonville.

Charles Delano Ferguson Sr.

Charles Delano Ferguson Sr., 65, of Winslow, Ark., died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born July 27, 1939, in Lott, Texas, to Charles Ferguson and Lora Johnson Ferguson.

He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Local 490.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Ferguson.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Butler Ferguson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Ferguson Jr. and Patricia Ferguson of Bella Vista, Ark., Gary Ferguson and Leslie Ferguson of Coolidge, Ariz., and Bryan Ferguson and Robin Ferguson of Winslow; a daughter and son-in-law, Beva Davidson and George Davidson of Fayetteville, Ark.; three brothers, Grady Ferguson of West Fork, Ark., Winston Ferguson of St. Louis, Mo., and Don Ferguson of Goshen, Ark.; two sisters, June Murrell of Springdale, Ark., and Shirley Paolini of Birds Landing, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale, Ark.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at the Park Cemetery in Winslow.

Pallbearers will be Charles Ferguson Jr., Brian Ferguson, George Davidson, Don Ferguson and Daniel Smith.

Nelda (Bunger) Richardson

Nelda (Bunger) Richardson, 57, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005, at her home after a long illness. Born in Malvern, Arkansas, she was the daughter of James Allen and Lorene Bunger of Magnet Cove. Her husband, Douglas, of Boca Raton; her son, Sean T. O’Neal of Memphis, Tennessee; her grandson, Chance James O’Neal of Little Rock, Arkansas; her brothers, James Stephen and Allen Douglas, survive her along with three nieces, one nephew and eleven great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Richardson spent her life in education as a teacher, counselor and supervisor of special educational services for four school districts in the Hot Springs, Arkansas, area, prior to her retirement in 1996. Nelda had a passion for teaching and providing compassionate support for special-needs children. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Ouachita Baptist University and two Master of Arts degrees from Henderson State University.

In 1997, she and her husband, Doug Richardson, founded G. O. A. L. S., Inc. (Go Out And Live Successfully!); a charitable foundation dedicated to helping people with spinal cord injuries better access their environment. She was Co-President of the Boca Raton Welcome Club in 2003-2004, a member of the Boca Raton New Club and several book groups, as she was an avid reader throughout her life.

There will be no calling hours, but a memorial service and reception will be held at the Meadow View Baptist Church, Highway 270, Jones Mill, Arkansas, on Sunday, April 24 th, from 2-5 p.m. There also will be a reception at her home in Boca Raton on Sunday afternoon, May 1 st, from 2-5 p.m.

Thomas Van Wilking

Thomas Van Wilking was born December 18, 1920, in Decatur, IL. He went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2005, at 9:35 a.m. He leaves behind his wife, Marjorie; one son, Eddie Wilking of Lorenzo, TX; one daughter, Debbie Harris of Plano, TX; two brothers, Bob & Ed Wilking of Decatur, IL; one sister, Betty Davidson of Dalton City, IL; three grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews. Tom served four years in the South Pacific as a Communications Chief during WW II. He was awarded two Bronze Stars in New Guinea and one Bronze Star in the liberation of the Philippines, also many bars and ribbons. Tom was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Denver, CO, for 28 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Ben Wilking.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers with Douglas Raines officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Rogers American Legion Post 100, with burial in the Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville, AR.

Ray Edward Cox, 76, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Osawatomie, Kan., to Wiley J. Cox and Carmen Cox.

He and his wife, Donna, moved to Bella Vista in May 1990 from the Kansas City area. He was employed with Allstate Insurance in Kansas City for 30 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Independence, Mo. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville. He was a Crime Watch volunteer and also volunteered at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville. He was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert; and two sisters, Margery Rummell and Dolly Kraft.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Cox; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven R. Cox and Janice Cox, and Jeffrey W. Cox and Linda Cox, all of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Emily Cox and Daniel Cox.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Art Fogartie.

Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Memorials may be made to Village House, P. O. Box 3027, Bella Vista AR 72715; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
