Bill Hensley

Bill Hensley, 69, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Friday, April 8, 2005. He was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Tulsa, Okla., to William Hensley and Rita Poston Hensley.

Hensley moved to Siloam Springs in 1967 from Tulsa, Okla. He was a foreman in oil cooling tower fabrication.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hensley, a son, Gerald Hensley, and a sister, Geneva Martin.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Woodson and Don Woodson of Siloam Springs, Donna Hensley and Sam Page of Tulsa, Okla., a grandson, Jason Page of Tulsa, three brothers and daughter-in-law, James Hensley of Claremore, Okla., Richard Hensley and Nancy Hensley of Pollock Pines, Calif., and John Hensley of Claremore, Okla.; three sisters and brother-in-law, Pat Olsen of Claremore, Barbara Freeze and Leland Freeze of Enid, Okla., and Phyliss Ann Vordes of Oklahoma.

A memorial service will be at noon, Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Bill Hensley’s home. Cremation arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

Shirley F. Conner

Shirley F. Conner, 67 of Bentonville, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County. She was born October 8, 1937 in Jamestown, Texas to Clyde Moore and Edna Heath Moore. Shirley graduated from Bentonville High School, Class of 1956. She was a Majorette in the Bentonville High School Band, and played clarinet. Shirley enjoyed gardening, flowers, taking walks, fishing, cooking, and reading Christian books. Shirley is a long time member of the First Christian Church of Bentonville, and because of her love for children, has always been involved with the nursery department in whatever church she was attending. Her passion revolved around her grandchildren and always wanted to be involved in their lives, activities and functions. She moved back to Bentonville in 1990 from New Boston, Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years Joe W. Conner, of the home; two sons Joe W. Conner Jr. and his wife Kimberly, of Coppell, Texas, Marcus P. Conner and his wife Janette, of Bentonville; two daughters Cindy Hunt and her husband Dean, of Bentonville, Jennifer Shuptrine, of Bentonville; two brothers John Moore, of Ft. Worth, Joe Moore of Springdale; one sister Louise Slyter of Rogers; five grandchildren Stacey Hunt of Bentonville, John Conner of Coppell, Kristy Hunt of Bentonville, Patrick Conner, of Coppell, and Marshall Conner of Bentonville. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday April 11, 2005 in the Little Flock Cemetery with Rev. Don Morrow officiating.

Memorials may be made in honor of Shirley F. Conner to the First Christian Church of Bentonville, Building Fund, 807 S. E. 14 th St., Bentonville, AR 72712.

Funeral arrangements are by Stockdale Funeral Home.

James Larry Kirkland

James Larry Kirkland, 63, of Avoca, Ark., died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home. He was born May 10, 1941, at Smithwick, Texas, to Patrick Lowrey Kirkland and Gracie Ella Boultinghouse Kirkland.

He marriage Linda Cleo Richardson on June 18, 1960, in Imperial, Calif. He moved from California to this area in 1967 to make his home. He was a retired self-employed roofer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Lowrey Kirkland; a sister, Patricia Richardson; and a granddaughter, Daisha Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Linda Cleo Richardson Kirkland; his mother, Gracie Ella Kirkland of Avoca; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cece Riggle and Bob Riggle of Avoca, and Kim Ross and Earl Ross of Rogers, Ark.; a son, James Kirkland of Avoca; a brother, Gerald Kirkland of Rogers; a sister, Barbie Foster of Harrison, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Thursday, April 28, at Blaylock Cemetery near Avoca with the Rev. Marvin Stephens. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge.

Mary Louise DeLagrange Edwards

Mary Louise DeLagrange Edwards, 80, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in Bella Vista. She was born Aug. 25, 1924.

She was raised in Van Buren, Ark., and was working as a telephone operator when she met her future husband Glenn while he was stationed at Camp Chaffee. They moved to Tulare, Calif., in 1945. She was very active in St. Anne’s Parish as a member of Catholic Daughters and the St. Anne’s Mothers Club.

After moving to Redwood City, Calif., she worked as a communications specialist for Stanford Research Institute. Upon their retirement, she and Glenn spent a number of years traveling around the country before deciding to settle in Bella Vista, Ark. where both were active members of St. Bernard’s Parish.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cecelia; and brother, John DeLagrange.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Glenn A. Edwards; her sister, Patricia Shepherd of Ontario, Calif.; a daughter, Nicki Edwards of Porterville, Calif.; five sons, Glenn Edwards of Tarrytown, N. Y., Stephen Edwards of Porterville, Matthew Edwards of Oakland, Calif., Neil Edwards of Redwood City, and Christopher Edwards of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Ian Brown of Yakima, Wash., Ellen Edwards, and Olivia Edwards both of Tarrytown; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and good friend, Pat Bower of Ft. Smith, Ark.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory of Bella Vista.

A Mass of the resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista with Father Andrew Smith.

Memorial services in California will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hiefer International, P. O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR 72203.

Harold W. Pokorny

Harold W. Pokorny, 73, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born May 5, 1931, in Valparaiso, Neb., to Howard W. Pokorny and Luella Nichols Pokorny.

He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He moved to Bella Vista in 1984 from Omaha. He was former owner of Reb’s Heating and Cooling in Bella Vista. He was a member of the Bella Vista American Legion, Nomad Shrine Club and the Steamfitters Union in Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Cernik.

Survivors include his wife, Marvel Pokorny, whom he marriage in November, 1982; a step-son, Ryan E. Brown and his wife, Christine Brown of Grove City, Ohio; and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Altman and Lyle Altman of Wilber, Neb.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista.

Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory of Bella Vista.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nomad Shrine Club/Children’s Fund, c/o Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715.

Robert Howard Scott

Robert Howard Scott, 81, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Commerce, Okla., to Robert Lewis Scott and Merele Crider Scott.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Scott on Dec. 1, 2004; and a son, Robert L. Scott. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Scott and Jo Ellen Scott of Bella Vista; a brother, Harold Scott of Baxter Springs, Kan.; a sister, Mary McNaughton of Baxter Springs, Kan.; four grandchildren, Stacy Ann Kimberly of Olathe, Kan., Kelly Schlicht of Parker, Colo., Robby Scott of Grove, Okla., and Shannon Johnson of Grove; and six great-grandchildren. No services are planned. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory of Bella Vista.

Earl B. Sloan

Earl B. Sloan, 81, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., died Thursday, March 24, 2005. He was born March 31, 1923, in Springfield, Mo.

He resided in Rogers, Ark. for 28 years. He served his country as a B-29 pilot during World War II, flying off of Saipan. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and retired at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., in 1967. After his retirement he purchased an interest in Allied Realty in Rogers. He was the manager of the Helping Hands store in Bentonville for five years before relocating to Florida in 2003. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Sloan, in 1972. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Sloan; and son David Sloan of Key West, Fla. An inurnment service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Ft. Walton Beach.

Dorothy Loraine Duke

Dorothy Loraine Duke, 64, of Prairie Grove, Ark., died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Medi Homes Nursing Home in Prairie Grove. She was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Upland, Calif., to Hobson Isaac Phillips and Bessie Partenberry Phillips. She was of the Pentecostal Faith. She was a gospel pianist and singer.

Survivors include two sons, Shawn Meltzer of Prairie Grove, and Brian Meltzer of Rogers, Ark.; a daughter, Robin Duncan of Fayetteville, Ark.; a brother, Vernon Phillips of Springdale, Ark.; and eight grandchildren. Memorial services were held Thursday, April 28, at Prairie Grove Cemetery Pavilion in Prairie Grove with Gary Mitchell. Arrangements are by Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Prairie Grove Children’s Library, PO Box 10, Prairie Grove, AR 72753.

Karenlee Alohalain Harris,

Karenlee Alohalain Harris, 48, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at her home. She was born Feb. 9, 1957, in Louisville, Ky., to Earl Kei Kamakeeaina and Amy Donner Thompson.

She marriage Allen D. Harris on June 22, 1974, in Siloam Springs. She was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts and being outdoors.

Survivors include her husband, Allen D. Harris of the home; her mother, Amy Thompson of Olathe, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen D. Harris Jr. and Melissa Harris of Siloam Springs; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jackie Hudnall and Keith Hudnall of Arkadelphia, Ark., Karen Harris of Siloam Springs, and Jessica Patterson and Tony Patterson of Siloam Springs; three brothers, Earl Kamakeeaina, Vaden "Waddy" Kamakeeaina, and Kenny Kamakeeaina, all of Olathe; four sisters, Harriett McAlister and Amy Lee Byrd, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Irene Stillwell of Ind., and Crystal Brown of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel of Siloam Springs with the Rev. Wayne Hurt.

Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery, south of Marrow, Ark.

Bernice C. Donoghue

Bernice C. Donoghue, 59, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center of Washington County in Springdale, Ark. She was born March 28, 1946, in Clarksburg, W. Va., to Paul Young and Helen Jeannette McElroy.

She had worked at Anchor Hocking Glass Co. and as a certified nursing assistant for Hospice of Harrison County (W. Va.) She was a Lutheran and attended Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Vincent J. Donoghue; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelli M. Hart and Jamie Hart of Bella Vista; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew A. Davis and Jessica Davis of Clarksburg, W. Va.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Verna Welch and the Rev. Cecil Welch of Hinton, W. Va., Ella Jean Saffle of Bridgeport, W. Va., and Pauline Ganoe of Clarksburg, W. Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Y. McElroy and Alicia McElroy of San Antonio, Texas; two grandsons, Luke Davis and Caden Davis of Clarksburg, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Clarksburg, W. Va., with arrangements by Davis Funeral Home of Clarksburg.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Local arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
