Mack H. McLendon

Mack H. McLendon, 84, of Fayetteville, Arkansas died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas. He was born December 08, 1918, in Moorefield, Arkansas the son of Mark H. and Ruth A. Lenehan McLandon. Mack, early in life, became acting head of the household during depression years when fathers were often away from home earnings funds to support their families. He and Mack, Sr., contributed greatly in the construction of the Moorefield Community Building, which still serves its community to today. Mack attended school in Moorefield, earned a B.S.A. at the University of Arkansas, and did advanced coursework at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. Through the ROTC program and following graduation he became a commissioned officer in the US ARMY. By way of a battlefield commission, Mack was promoted to the rank of Captain during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Germany. Active in service organizations throughout his life, Mack held office in AARP and NARFE. Other contributions include unfailing involvement in CUMC activities, tireless work with WRMC Auxiliary, and endless offers of assistance to anyone in need. Devoted husband of Frances Clark McLendon over 52 years, Mack and family spent much time in the Central and South Americas, first with the United Fruit Company and then as an agriculture development officer for U.S.A.I.D. Mack was later in life further blessed when Jo Adams and her family welcomed him into their hearts. Their time together has been a Godsend for all involved.
He is survived by; one daughter, Patricia McLendon of Fayetteville, Arkansas, one son Gary McLendon of Fayetteville, Arkansas, two sisters, Beth Forrest of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Florence Phillips of Nacogdoches, TX, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ester Philpot and on brother, William Washington McLendon.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, April 7, 2003 at the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville; the burial will follow in the Fayetteville National Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm till 5:00 pm Sunday, April 6, 2003 with the family-receiving friends from 2:00pm till 4:00pm.

Janie Lynch

Janie Lynch, 38 of Springdale, AR passed away Friday, April 4, 2003 in Springdale. She was born July 22, 1964 in Fayetteville, AR to Jim and Nancy Crabtree.

She is survived by her parents, two daughters Amber and Brittany Lynch of Springdale, AR, one brother; Jimmie Crabtree of Paradise, CA , and one sister; Jessica Brinkman of Vacaville, CA .

Visitation will be held 9:00 am till 12:00 pm, Tuesday April 8, 2003 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, AR with Rev. Utah Humphrey officiating.

Melva Irene Greenlee

Mrs. Melva Irene Greenlee, 61, of Springdale, Arkansas, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born May 25, 1941 in Little Kansas, Oklahoma the daughter of William Riley and Mettie Dozier Frazier. She was a homemaker and a beloved mother. She was loved by all and will be missed a great deal

She is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws; Dena and Pascual Reyes, Sheila Flores and Ruben Herrera, Cindy and Buddy Hawkins, two sons and daughter-in-laws; Jackie and Anita Greenlee, Don and Michelle Greenlee, six son-in-laws; T.J. Johnson, Jeff Motes, Noah Pennington, Larry Williams, Rick Agnew, Alyandro Flores, four brothers; Cletus Frazier, Chester Frazier, Ivan Frazier, Leon Frazier two sisters; Hester Bowen Peal, Lela Ratcliff, seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the White Oak Cemetery in the Wheeler Community with the Reverends Diane Hayes and J. D. Star.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM till 9:00 PM Tuesday, April 8, 2003, the family will receive friend from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM.

Audie W. Baughn

Mr. Audie W. "Buddy" Baughn, 67 of Springdale, AR passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2003 in Fayetteville. He was born November 27, 1935 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Lonnie and Alberta (McNatt) Baughn. He was a retired mobile home repairman and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, one daughter; Dee Ann Chambers of Citrus Heights, CA, two sons; Lonnie Dwayne and David Baughn both of Springdale, AR, two brothers; Glen Baughn of Roseville, CA, Robert Baughn of San Diego, CA, two sisters; Esther Hidelman of Santa Anna, CA, Loretta Payne of San Antonio, TX, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, AR from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM in the Fayetteville National Cemetery.

Infant Joseph Irving Gerstner

Infant Joseph Irving Gerstner, beloved son of Nathan and Denise (Smith) Gerstner was born August 27th, 2003 in Fayetteville, AR.

After preparing his sisters for this life, his job was complete on September 14, 2003 when he left this world to go with God in the next.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters; Lauren Rose & Hannah Marie Gerstner both of Fayetteville, his maternal grandparents Marietta Smith of Fayetteville and Don Smith of Chino Valley, AZ, his paternal grandparents Dale and Jeannie Gerstner of Springdale, AR, his papa Jim Ryer of Oklahoma City, OK, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, family and friends Tim & Danna Grear, Molly, Daniel, and Grandma Texas.

Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Farmington Cemetery in Farmington, AR with Pastor David Dodson officiating.

John A. Sealander, Jr.

John Arthur Sealander, Jr. age 85, of Rogers, Arkansas died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. He was born to John Arthur and Mary Constance Grimsgaard Sealander at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on December 9, 1917.

He was marriage to Lucile Crozier Rehm, daughter of Colonel Harold W. Rehm and Louise E. Rehm on August 24, 1947 at Friday Harbor, Washington. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1990 at the age of 66 years.

He graduated from Luther College in 1940 with an A.B. Degree Cum Laude in Biology and Chemistry. He received an M.S. degree in Zoology from Michigan State University in 1942 and a PHD in Zoology from the University of Illinois in 1949.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the hospital corps, the amphibious forces and in communications. He served as staff communications officer on the staffs of Commodores Boak and Martin at Manus Naval Base, Pacific and on the staff of Commander Western Sea Frontier, San Francisco. He left the navy in 1946 as a LT (JG) U.S. Naval Reserve.

His professional career was as a professor of zoology at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville from 1949-1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by three children; John III of Dallas, Texas, Judith of Bowling Green, Ohio, Sarah of Dallas, Texas and one granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Peace Lutheran Church, 805 W. Olrich, Rogers, Arkansas with Pastor Erik Boye and Pastor Jane Mar officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas, Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, or to a favorite charity.

Janice (Jackie) Yalowitz

Mrs. Janice "Jackie" Yalowitz, 66 of Fayetteville, AR passed away Thursday, September, 18, 2003 in Fayetteville, AR. She was born June 30, 1937 in Searcy, AR to John P. and Camella B. (Bailey) Jones.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, AR and a graduate of Texas Women's University of Denton, TX.

She is survived by her husband; Sam Yalowitz, one son Mark Yalowitz and his wife April and daughter Emily all of Seattle, WA, two daughters; Johnna Yalowitz of Fayetteville, AR, Traci Yeargan and husband Brooks and daughter Sydney all of Fayetteville, AR and one brother; Richard Jones of Jacksonville, AR.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 20, 2003 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22, 2003 at 2:00 PM in Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Bayou Meto Cemetery in Jacksonville, AR.

Richard W. Jones

Richard W. Jones, 46, of Fayetteville, Arkansas died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born January 3, 1957 in Woodland, California the son of Ralph Jones and Dorothy Farrister Jones Thrush. He was Operations Manager for Travel Centers and a member of the St. Raphael?s Catholic Church in Springdale, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife; Sharon L. Jones of the Home, two sons, Christopher Tamayo, Ricky Jones, two daughters, Bernadette Storment, Tina Tamayo, his mother Dorothy Thrush, two grandchildren, two sisters, Sheryl Galicia and Linda Reyes.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2003 at the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home with Father Scott Friend officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 24, 2003 with the Rosary starting at 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home, the family will greet friends after the Rosary.

Elmer Odin Olson

Mr. Dean Olson, 65 of Fayetteville, AR passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 in Fayetteville. He was born May 1, 1938 in International Falls, MN to Theodore and Nellie (Doust) Olson.

He was a retired security supervisor for Standard Register Co., a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post #27, and Christian Life Cathedral in Fayetteville. Mr. Olson was also a U.S. Army veteran serving three tours of duty overseas in Germany and Korea and was an Infantry Tactics instructor at Ft. Polk, LA.

He is survived by his wife; Lorene Olson, four sons; Michael Olson of Fayetteville, AR, Don Foster Of Fayetteville, AR, Mark Foster of Sulphur, LA, Michael Hodge of Sulphur, LA, one daughter; Dawn Kennedy of Tulsa, OK, three sisters; Edna Doris and Oveda Brantal of International Falls, MN, Mary Jane Fuoco of Sacramento, CA, nine grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home from noon until 9:00 PM with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2003 in Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Dixon and Father Dan Bannon officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Linda Kay Cooper

Linda Kay Cooper, 61 of Fayetteville, AR passed away Monday, October 6, 2003 in Fayetteville. She was born January 17, 1942 in Marked Tree, AR to Reginald Taft and Martha Virginia (Dixon) Cooper.

Linda Kay was a retired educator, teaching in schools throughout the world.

She was preceded in death by a sister JoAnn Moody, and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Kent Aronson, two sons; W. Brent Johnson of Redwood City, CA, Chad J. Johnson of Dallas, TX , one grand daughter; Lola Grace Johnson of Redwood City, CA, and one brother; Teddy Neal Cooper of Sierra Vista, CA.

Memorials services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 1:00 PM in St. Catherine's at Bell Gable, 2140 Stone Chapel Lane Fayetteville, AR 72704.

Mildred "Tillie" Underwood

Mrs. Mildred "Tillie" Underwood, 95 of Fayetteville, AR formerly of Mountain View, OK passed away Monday, October 13, 2003 in Fayetteville. She was born November 16, 1907 in Carnegie, OK to Ed and Nora (Collins) Dukes.

She was a former Postmistress for Mountain View, OK and along with her husband owned and operated the Tillie Hut Restaurant. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Mountain View, OK.

Mrs. Underwood was born as one of Oklahoma's "Statehood Babies", being born on the same day that Oklahoma gained it's statehood. On November 16, 2002 the Governor of Oklahoma declared it "Tillie Underwood Day".

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert G. Underwood and grandson Shad Underwood.

She is survived by two sons; Bill Underwood of Fayetteville, AR, John David Underwood of Harrison, three sisters; Eva Tooman of Carnegie, OK, Valera Cook of Georgetown, TX, Anna Perkins of Wewoka, OK, four grandchildren; Michelle Gass of Dallas, TX, Craig Underwood of Fayetteville, AR, Victoria Nelson of Memphis, TN, Leighton Underwood of Oklahoma City, OK, and 7 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain View, Oklahoma with Rev. Harold Mosely officiating.

Memorials may be made to Butterfield Trail Village or Washington Regional Hospice.
