Robert J. Mann

Robert J. Mann, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 19, 2006, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Woodbine, Iowa, to Wallace C. Mann and Mildred D. Mann.

He moved to Bella Vista in 2001 from Arnold's Park, Iowa, where he and his wife had lived since 1974. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked at Lockheed in California, and for many years was manager of Ready Mix in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelle "Sally" Mann.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth E. Markley of Spencer, Iowa; two nieces, Rene Markley of San Diego, Calif., and Jan E. McClary of Bella Vista; a great-niece; a great-nephew; a great-great-niece; and a great-great-nephew.

Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Turner Funeral Home of Milford, Iowa.

Local arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doris Ann Turner

Doris Ann Turner, 61, of Neosho, Mo., died Feb. 22, 2006, in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born Nov. 21, 1944, in Wheaton, Mo., to Woodrow W. Tracy and Sylvia G. Enlow Tracy. She was raised and educated in Fairview, Mo. She marriage Winford Knight in 1963. She later marriage John Turner. She was employed as a punch-press operator for more than 27 years for Fasco Industries in Cassville, Mo. She enjoyed dancing, reading and playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, John Turner; her father, Woodrow W. Tracy; and a sister, Barbara Jean Harp.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Wayne Knight and James "Jim" Knight, both of Neosho; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Wren and Jon Wren of Neosho; her mother, Sylvia Tracy of Bella Vista, Ark.; a brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow Tracy Jr. and Alfretta Tracy of Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Tracy Jageman and Larry Jageman of Athens, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday, March 5, at the Fairview Community Building in Fairview, Mo.

Lillian Norene Whiting

Lillian Norene Whiting, 89, of Gravette, Ark. died Feb. 23, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. She was born Dec. 28, 1916 at Gravette, Ark. to Mabel Ina White and William C. "Bill" Hager.

She graduated from Gravette High School in 1936 and marriage Roy Robert Whiting in 1940. She worked in the furniture business; was an antique furniture dealer; an interior decorator and owned and operated Whiting Furniture Store. She belonged to the Methodist Church. She liked to read, cook, and enjoyed nature, birds and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Robert Whiting, Sr., son, Roy Robert Whiting, Jr., sister, Leta Russell and brother John William "Billy" Hager.

She is survived by one sister, Louise Russow of Gravette, Ark.; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A funeral service was held Feb. 25 at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.. Burial was Feb. 27 at the IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, Okla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905.

Alvis Torrance Wilson

Alvis Torrance Wilson, 87, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 17, 2006, in McKinney, Texas. He was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Purcell, Okla., to Raymond Wilson and Bessie Wilson. He marriage Kathlyn Kailey on May 24, 1957, in Lawton, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a manager in the Oklahoma State Employment Security Commission for 30 years until his retirement in 1977. After retirement, he moved to Bella Vista, Ark. He moved to Plano in 1998. He was a member of the Bella Vista Baptist Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Rex Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Kathlyn Wilson; a son, Rowland Ray Wilson of Bedford, Texas; a daughter, Kathy Mitchell of Plano; two sisters, Wanda George of Clinton, Okla., and Delia Cole of Guymon, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Feb. 20 at the Fairview Cemetery in Apache, Okla., with the Rev. Leon Shade, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Apache.

Arrangements were by Crews Funeral Home of Apache.

Vaden Kramer Hill

Vaden Kramer Hill, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 25, 2006, at Highland Health Care in Bella Vista. She was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Laona, Wis., to Frederick Freeman and Catherine Kramer Freeman.

She was active in The First Congregational Church, as well as many civic and fraternal organizations in Oshkosh, Wis. Upon moving to Bella Vista in 1977, she organized numerous bridge clubs, some which still exist today. She was the first president of the Bella Vista Wisconsin Club and was a member of the Bella Vista Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Victor Hill; a son, Jeffrey Hill of Kansas City, Mo.; and a grandson, Hunter Hill.

No services were planned.

Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Freda I. Voas

Freda I. Voas, 92, of Burnsville, Minn., formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 17, 2006. She was born July 28, 1913, in Woodbury County, Iowa. She and her husband, the Rev. Duane Voas, lived in Bella Vista from 1981 to 1997 and attended the First United Methodist Church in Bentonville, Ark.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Duane Voas; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Voas and Sarah Jane Voas; a daughter, Sheryl Voas; a brother, Wayne Mc-Cune; a grandson, Jeffrey Voas; and a nephew, Loren McCune.

Funeral services were held Feb. 28, at River Hills United Methodist Church in Burnsville.

Burial was in Climbing Hill, Iowa.

Arrangements were by White Funeral Home of Burnsville.

Gilbert ‘Gil’ L. Arnold

Gilbert "Gil" L. Arnold, 76, of Bella Vista, Ark., died March 7, 2006, at the Earlene Howard Hospice Home in Springdale, Ark. He was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Viola, Mo., to Robert Lee Arnold and Janie Irene Wallace Arnold.

He was raised in Wyandotte, Okla. He attended Oklahoma A&M; in Stillwater and received a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict at Fort Chaffee, Ark. He marriage Geneva Allred on Aug. 28, 1954, in Fort Smith, Ark. He taught vocational agriculture for eight years in Riverton, Kan. He worked for Olin Chemical and retired from Mobil Chemical in 1987 in sales management

He moved to Bella Vista in April 1987 from Houston, Texas. He was a member of the Bella Vista Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Arnold; and a sister, Bea Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Louise Arnold; his mother, Irene Arnold of Miami, Okla.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Lee Arnold and Mary Arnold of Shawnee, Kan., and Bruce Wayne Arnold of Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren, Derek Arnold of Springfield, Mo., Lance Cpl. Katie Arnold of Camp LeJeune, N. C., Janie Arnold of St. Charles, Mo., and Samuel Arnold of Shawnee, Kan.

A celebration of life was held March 10 at the Bella Vista Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McCauley and Bob Hartman.

Graveside services were held March 10 at the Wyandotte Cemetery in Wyandotte, Okla.

Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ann Louise Carbary

Ann Louise Carbary, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died March 10, 2006, at her home. She was born March 9, 1919, in Elgin, Ill., to Robert O. Young and Margaret Young.

She moved to Bella Vista 15 years ago from Elgin. She was active in bridge, pinochle, Mah Jong and canasta groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Carbary; a sister, Josephine Cox; and a niece, Debby L. Cox.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Marsha A. Gust and William Gust of St. Charles, Ill., and Georgi Anne of Bella Vista; one sister, Katherine M. Ross; two grandchildren, USAF Senior Airman Heather Elizabeth Ross and U.S. Army Sgt. Bryan C. Nagle; and one great-grandchild, Keegan Louise Ross. A private memorial service will be in Elgin at a later date. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Richard Keith Cherry

Richard Keith Cherry, 79, of Bella Vista, Ark., died March 11, 2006, at the Highland Health Care and Rehabilitation in Bella Vista. He was born May 12, 1926, in Stonington, Ill., to Loren Cherry and Elsie Gist Cherry.

After graduating from the University of Illinois, Champaign, he dedicated himself to the field of education as a classroom teacher, coach, elementary and junior high school principal and district business manager. He retired in May 1982 from School District 47, Crystal Lake, Ill., as the assistant superintendent in charge of finance. He enjoyed golf, basketball, hunting and outdoor activities. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church, a sponsor of Quail Unlimited, American Legion Post 341, Association of School Business Officials, Illinois Coaching Association, Nunda Masonic Lodge © in Crystal Lake, Ill., Scottish Rites Valley of Chicago and Bella Vista Men’s 18-Hole League. He was also a private pilot.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nita Cherry; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve Cherry and Karen Cherry of Bentonville, Ark.; one brother, Lewis Cherry of Alexandria, La., and two grandchildren, Kayla Rose Cherry and Dalton Richard Cherry, both of Bentonville.

A memorial service was held March 14 in the Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. Richard Lindman. Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
