Millard Buel Hawkins

Millard Buel Hawkins, 81, of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at a Little Rock hospital. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 28, at First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, with Bro. Lee Walker officiating, burial in Murfreesboro Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro.
Mr. Hawkins was born September 28, 1922, at Tokio, Arkansas, the son of the late Millard and Florence Cooley Hawkins.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, AR, where he served as a deacon. He was a businessman and owner of Hawkins Variety Store for 56 years. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife, Sarah Hawkins of Murfreesboro, AR; daughters, Susan Davis of Murfreesboro, AR, Beckal Hawkins of Murfreesboro, AR and Leah Hainen and husband, Rob, of Nashville, AR; grandchildren, Scott and Matt Davis of Murfreesboro, AR, Marc and Kyle Jackson of Murfreesboro, AR and Ryan and Randy Hainen of Nashville, AR; great-grandchildren, Torri, Hannah and Erin Davis.
Memorials may be made to Murfreesboro First Baptist Church Building or your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends at Latimer Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, Thursday, November 27, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Opal Turner

Opal Turner, 83, of Dierks, died Monday, November 24, 2003, at her home. Services are 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 28, 2003 at Holly Creek Baptist Church, Dierks, with burial in Harmony Cemetery. Bros. Bill Driggers, Larry Allbritton and Jimmy Jester will officiate. Mrs. Turner was born May 13, 1920, in North Howard County, the daughter of the late Jordan and Emma Henry Martin. She was a retired nurse’s aide at Beverly Health Care; a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and she went home to be with her Lord. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by four brothers, Perry, Fletcher, Roy, and Virgil Martin; two sisters Rilla Marie Jester and Lorene Priddy and two infant sisters, Gracie and Baby Martin. Survivors include her husband Elton Odell Turner of Dierks, AR; three sons Joe Turner of Dierks, AR, Don Turner of De Queen, AR and Glen Turner of Fort Smith, AR; one daughter, Sue Ann Fulcher of Fayetteville, AR; one sister Era Parker of Dierks, AR; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville. Memorials may be made to Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, Dierks, AR.
Bernice McClain

Bernice J. McClain, age 92, of Flippin passed away Saturday, April 16, 2005 in Little Rock. Born December 20, 1912, in Pangburn, Arkansas to the late Merle and Effie Thrasher Fisher. Preceded in death by her husband of 42 years James W. McClain, her brother Earnest Fisher of Flint, Michigan and a sister Gladys Williams of Hot Springs. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Sue Auffert, son-in-law, Edward L. Auffert, granddaughters, Jennifer J. Auffert and Jacqueline J. Smith, grandson-in-law, Brett N. Smith all of Little Rock; three sisters, Christine Parcher and Mary Eulala Young of Flint, Michigan, and Marie Frizzell of Byron, Michigan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bernice and her husband, Jimmy, operated their extensive business interests in Nashville, Arkansas until 1951 when they accepted positions with Dillard Department Stores in Texarkana. Mrs. McClain became a valued buyer for the company until her retirement in 1975. She treasured the life-long friendship she had with the Dillard family and employees.
After the death of her husband, in 1976, she moved to Flippin and made her home on the White River. She formed many deep friendships with her neighbors as well as her friends at the United Methodist Church in Bull Shoals. She had been living with her family in Little Rock since August of 2004 because of health problems. She deeply missed her friends back home and loved the letters, visits, and calls she received from them. She enjoyed being with her family during these months, and we will forever treasure that time together. We will all remember her loving spirit, her strength of character, her determination, her laugh, and her hugs. She is now in the embrace of God.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 2:00 P.M., at the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. She will be put to rest next to her husband after a short graveside service at Restland Cemetery in Nashville, Arkansas at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 21, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville. In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, AR 72204 or to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 210, Bulls Shoals, AR 72619.
Madie Hedrick Jones

Madie Hedrick Jones, age 86, of Nashville, died Monday, April 11, 2005, in Nashville. She was born December 26, 1918, in Tokio, Arkansas, the daughter of the late John Dan and Frances Rebecca Tingle Stuart. She was a homemaker and a farmer who loved camping, gardening and singing hymns. She was also a member of Biggs Chapel United Methodist Church and former member of the Corinth EHC. She was preceded in death by her husband Verdo Hedrick, second husband Elmer Jones and grandson Shane Akers. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law Ray and Dorothy Hedrick of Nashville, Donnie Hedrick of Nashville; three daughters and sons-in-law Louise and Bob Akers of Nashville, Frances and Phillip Cobb of Nashville, Sheila Brock of Nashville; one brother Dewey Stuart of Texarkana; one sister Pearl Waters of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren Dave Hedrick, Jim Hedrick, William Akers, Julie Dodson, Jakayla Mobley, Chris Webb and Nikki Cherry; thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Biggs Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in Corinth Cemetery. Arrangements are by Latimer Funeral Home.

Mack “Wildman” Melson, age 62, of Nashville, Arkansas, went to Heaven, on Friday, April 8, 2005, at his home. He was born February 20, 1943, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, the son of the late Lake G. and Jesse Marie Davis Melson. Mack was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was employed with Millwood Trucking for 18 years and was a retired veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers Kenneth, Dickie, Johnny and Jack Melson and 1 sister Jewel McIntosh. Survivors include his wife Malinda Jane Melson of Nashville; 2 previous wives Gloria Jean Byers of Texarkana, AR and Linda Diane Pittman of Nashville; 3 sons and daughters-in-law Jeff and Lynn McRaven of Ozan, Waylon and Amanda Melson of Kentucky, Zechariah Melson of Nashville; I daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Scott Chambless of Hope; 5 grandchildren Brittany and Aaron McRaven of Ozan, Tyler and Alyssa Melson of Kentucky and Grayson Chambless of Hope as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends. Cheryl Lynn Murchison, 51, of Nashville, died Wednesday, April 7, 2005, at her home.
She was born August 4, 1953, the daughter of Leo and Lillie Presley Roberts.
She is survived by one son, Jeremy Murchison and wife, Jeannette, of Ashdown, AR; one daughter, Marcy Farmer and husband, Terry, of Wilton, AR; one brother; four sisters; seven grandchildren; one-grandson and two good friends, Jan Mixon and Joe Ed Ayers.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 9, at Old Center Cemetery, near Horatio, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
Linnie Maude Gaddis

Linnie Maude Gaddis, 90, of Dierks, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at a Nashville hospital. She was born February 25, 1915, at Athens, Arkansas, the daughter of John and Lela Hogg. She was a Baptist and attended Fellowship Church in Dierks. She was a housewife and mother.
Mrs. Gaddis was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, Ricky Berry and Chris Fox; three brothers, Lindle Hogg, Joe Hogg and Bill Hogg.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Gaddis, they would have been married 70 years August 23rd , 2005; daughter, Ernie and son-in-law, Bruce Berry of Dolores, CO, and children, Lisa, Charles and Perry; son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Gaddis of Sheridan, AR, and children, Travis, Justin and Wesley; daughter, Eleanor and son-in-law, Choc Fox, of Cortez, CO, and children, Ray and Venessa; daughter, Deborah and son-in-law, Charlie Reel, of Dierks, AR, and children, Chuck and LeAnn; special friend, John David and Ronda Powers; eleven great-grandchildren an a host of special nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 8, at Fellowship Cemetery, with Bros. Bobby Neal and Gary Welch officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
Jerry Shope

Jerry L. Shope, age 71 of Bryant, Arkansas died Thursday morning after a short illness. He was born in Okolona, Arkansas and was a retired paint salesman and an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Dixon Shope, one sister, Fairy Lee May of Delight, Arkansas and a brother, John Shope, Jr. of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro with burial in Delight Cemetery.
Family visitation is Friday 6 - 8:00 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Eunice Mae Roberson

Eunice Mae Roberson, 89, of Waldo, AR died Sunday, March 27, 2005.
She was born August 20, 1915, at Nathan, AR, the daughter of the late Jasper and Martha White Floyd. She was a retired Administration Clerk after 30 + years of service with Center Point Energy formerly Houston Lighting and Power Co.in Pasadena, TX. She attended Mt. Vernon Community Church in Waldo, AR.
Ms. Roberson was preceded in death by her only son, Bob W. “Rock” Roberson, two sisters Ruby Faye Strasner and Georgia Ellis, and one brother, Marvin Floyd.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Sharon Roberson of Waldo, AR: two grandsons, Sam Roberson and wife, Dee, of Pasadena, TX and Michael Wade Roberson and wife, Amy, of Hot Springs, AR; two granddaughters, Sheryl Brackett and husband, Todd, of Waldo, AR and Lisa Dixon and husband, Mark, of Tyler, TX; ten great-grandchildren; two nephews, Thomas Strasner of Nathan, AR and Steve Strasner of Russellville, AR and a host of friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesay, March 29, at Biggs Chapel Cemetery, with Floyd Clark, Jr. officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
