Gary Van Anderson

Gary Van Anderson, 48, of New Blaine, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at his home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1953 in San Jose, Calif. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville receiving a masters degree in Speech Pathology and taught for many years in Lamar School District. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Delaware, a member of the Elizabeth Hall Masonic Lodge 215. He was an accomplished musician.
He is survived by his wife, Dena Underwood Anderson; one son, Gary Van Anderson, II, of New Blaine; three daughters, Gwedelyn Lawrence of Clarksville, Mary Brown of Scranton, and Kerri Anderson of New Blaine; his parents, Van and Mary Evelyn Wurst Anderson of Delaware; three brothers, Kirby Anderson and Daniel Anderson both of Delaware, and Timothy Anderson of Tracy, Calif.; and two grandsons.
Services were Tuesday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Delaware with Rev. Wiley Jones officiating. Burial was at Anderson cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle.
Pallbearer were Paul Farnam, Mitch Farnam, Shawn Miner, Andy Pemberton, Sonny Davis, Casey Foster, Kenny Whorton and Bobby Whorton.

Cora Randolph

Cora Randolph, 91, of Ratcliff, died Sunday, March 3, 2002.
She was born Oct. 17, 1910 in Etna and was a member of Brooklyn Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Roy Randolph and parents, James W. Isaacs and Ezza Reaves Issacs.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 at Brooklyn Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. J. L. Bonds officiating burial will be at Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Inc. of Charleston.
She is survived by two daughters, Lou Butler of Ratcliff and Belva Lea Cole of Branch; one son, Bill Randolph of Ratcliff; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Cox, Lindell Hill, James Hawkins, Larry Canfield, Steve Chambers, and Chuck Crabtree.

Marshall Kenton

Marshall Hall Kenton, 82, of Scranton, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 in Clarksville.
He was a painter and attended United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles Summer and Bertha Maude (Hall) Kenton.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial at McKendree cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Pridgen) Kenton of Scranton; one daughter, Marsha Buck of Paris; two sisters, Helen Hatcher and Georgia Cowan both of Merced, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Brother Aelred Walmsley, O.S.B.

Brother Aelred Walmsley, O. S. B., monk of Subiaco Abbey died suddenly and unexpectedly at the breakfast table in the monastic dining room on Feb. 21, 2002 at the age of 71. He was born in East Orange, N. J., on June 28, 1930, the son of Alfred Walmsley and Jean [Clinton] Walmsley. Survivors are a daughter, Jean arie Luciano of Leicester, Mass.; two brothers, Robert Walmsley of Basking Ridge, N. J. and Peter Walmsley of Carmel, Calif.; and one sister, Mary Jane Postal of Basking Ridge, N. J.
Brother Aelred received his elementary education at Our Lady of All Souls School in East Orange and attended East Orange High School. He received further education at New York School of Freight Traffic, New York and at Newark College of Engineering in New Jersey.
Before entering Subiaco Abbey, Brother was employed at Western Electric Company, New York, in the Traffic Department. From 1950-1955 Brother was Bursar for the Grace Steamship Line. After leaving Grace Steamship Lines he was employed as a draftsman by Otis Elevator in New Jersey.
In June 1979 Brother came to Subiaco Abbey. He entered the Novitiate in February 1980 and made profession of vows on Sept. 14, 1981. During his years at Subiaco, Brother Aelred worked as host maker, was in charge of the monks' dining room, worked in the Development Office and the laundry. He will be remembered most as the Abbey Mailman and as the Abbey Bookbinder. He served the community in those capacities for 20 years.
As mailman, Brother Aelred was like the Pony Express in that nothing could get in the way of delivering the mail. In recent years, as the monks began to consider seriously the possibility of renovating their living quarters, Brother always made a point of reminding the Committee on Renovation and the Development Director to find a place for the bookbinding operation in the renovation. Brother was an enthusiastic participant and supporter of the Abbey's Wellness Program. He did his workouts as his health permitted and called others forth to do the same.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22, and the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, in Saint Benedict Church at Subiaco. Interment will be in the Abbey cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home, Paris.

Herman P. Nixon

Herman P. Nixon, 85, of Lavaca died Thursday, Feb. 21 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Dec. 26, 1916 in Lavaca. He was a member of Victory Masonic Lodge #470 of Barling; a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member and deacon of the Lavaca First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Nixon. He was the son of the late Hubert and Ada Bell Andrews Nixon.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Lavaca First United Methodist Church with Rev. Victor Nixon and Rev. Michael Jennings officiating. A Masonic graveside service followed at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, east of Lavaca under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of the home; one daughter, June Yancey of Lavaca; one sister, Fern Little of Indianola, Miss.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenny Nixon, Wade Nixon, Riley Brown, Steve Nelms, Mike Powers and Gordon Castling.
Honorary pallbearers were the Friendship Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lavaca First United Methodist Church.

Anna Bell Rogers

Anna Bell Rogers, 90, of Cameron, Okla. (formerly of Paris) died Tuesday, Feb. 19 in Fort Smith. She was retired sales clerk for Hunt's Department Store in Fort Smith and Gray's Clothing Store in Paris. She was affiliated with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pheriell Rogers and husband, James L. Rogers; and her parents, Charlie and Addie (Harrison) Friar.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial following at McKendree Cemetery, Subiaco, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Dean Rogers of Cameron, Okla. and Wallace Neil Rogers of Casper, Wy.; three sisters, Maryette Bagwell, Verlon Gattis, and Ocie Gattis, all of Fort Smith; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randy Rogers, Gary Rogers, Buddy Bagwell, Danny Rogers, Larry Rogers, and J.C. McChristian.

Mayo Law

Mayo Kesner Law, 74, of Charleston died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at a local hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1928 in Ratcliff. He was a cattleman, member of the Franklin County Cattleman's Association; member of the Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caulksville.
He was the son of the late Charley C. and Gertie Wilson Law.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial following at Lowes Creek Cemetery, north of Branch, under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
Survivors include: his wife, Ada Beth (Irvin) Law, of the home; two daughters, Pam VanMeter of Charleston and Janet Trusty of Paris; one son, Mike Law of Charleston; three sisters, Ruth Smith of Hanceville, Ala., Ruby Foreman Lasson of Oakley, Calif. and Euna Irvin of Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Clymer Law of Ratcliff and Gilbert Law of Cullman, Ala.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Derek, Brant and Chase Law, Cory VanMeter, Taylor Gattis and Paul Peck.
Honorary pallbearers were H.T. Stubblefield, Arvene O'Neal, Coy Mantooth, Paul Frank Whittington, Haskell Casalman, Lane Ford and Larry Bottoms.

Mary Sanders

Mary Magline Sanders, 78, of Paris died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 in Morrilton.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was born Sept. 22, 1923 in Paris, daughter of the late George Jacob and Mary Regene Wyndle Stafford.
A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
Survivors include: three daughters, Katie Heller of Burbank, Calif., Mary Frances Collins of Morrilton and Brenda Berry of Paris; two sons, Stacey Swims and Wesley Allen Sanders, both of Paris; three sisters, Lillian O'Neal, Lillie Fryn, and Lindy Brown, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Stafford of Porterville, Calif. and Jake Stafford of Bakersville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Danny Martin

Danny Martin, 43, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002.
He attended First Assembly of God Church in Paris and Christ the King Church in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Lindell Martin; his stepson, Daniel Beschoner and nephew David Shields.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First Assembly of God Church in Paris with graveside service at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Dot; two stepsons, Kevin and Dylan Beschoner of Fort Smith; his mother, Elizabeth "Happy" Martin of Paris; three brothers, Dave, Randy and Eric of Paris; one sister, Carla Shields of Russellville.
Pallbearers were David Martin, Eric Martin, Jeff Shields, Ryan Shields, Brandon Martin and Chris Fuller.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Parsons and Tommy Oaks.
