CLYDE HOOVER

Funeral services for Clyde Walter Hoover, 60, of West Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in West Helena. The Rev. Lonnie Whitfield will officiate. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial cemetery in the Southland Community.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the chapel of Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.

Hoover, born June 20, 1943 in West Helena to Malvern Hoover and Patsy Simmons Hoover, died April 10, 2004 at Jefferson Regional Memorial Hospital in Pine Bluff.

He was baptized at an early age at the Greater First Baptist Church in West Helena, under the leadership of the Rev. R.L. Jelks. He later joined the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in West Helena.

He united in marriage with Mildred Ransom Feb. 25, 1985.

Both of his parents, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mildred Hoover of West Helena; a daughter Maggie Hoover of Virginia; three sisters, Maggie Norwood of Gary, Ind., Ora Lee and Roy Burns and Evelyn Hoover of West Helena; two brothers, George and Carolyn Hoover of Little Rock, Robert and Ruthie Hoover of Tulsa, Okla., and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home will direct services.

MILDRED B. CURTIS

Former Helena resident Mildred B. Curtis, 100, died April 12, 2004 at the St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Helena and a graduate of Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn.

She was the widow of Thomas F. Curtis

She leaves a daughter Gloria Miles of Mission Viego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Chapel in Memphis with burial in Memorial Park.

RUTHIE MAYES

Funeral services for Ruthie Mayes, 61, of Helena will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in Helena. The Rev. Danny Robinson will officiate. Burial will be at Magnolia cemetery in Helena.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the chapel of Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.

Mayes, born Aug. 8, 1942 in Pine City to Montgomery Franks and Lessie Anderson, died April 6, 2004.

She was a faithful member of the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in Helena.

She united in marriage with the Joe Mayes, who preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Mattie Richardson of Helena; a brother, Montgomery Franks of Helena; six grandchildren, Tony Richardson, Cedric Richardson, Felisha Richardson, Zebedee Borum, Patonya Richardson and Karen Richardson all of Helena and a host of relatives and friends.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena will direct services.

FRED JORDAN

Fred Jordan, 57, died April 10, 2004 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 15 at the M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, Southaven Chapel in Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, April 16, 2004 at the Cummings Street Church in Memphis. Burial will be at the Elmwood cemetery in Memphis.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home, West Helena will direct services.

GEORGE ALEXANDER

Graveside services for George Alexander, 96, of Helena will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Magnolia cemetery in Helena.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the New Zion M.B. Church in West Helena.

Aleander, born Oct. 12, 1907 to Louis and Lena Alexander, died April 11, 2004 at Cretspark Skilled Nursing Home.

He was the last of five children born to the Alexander's. Three sisters Minnie Johnson, Mary Johnson and Rosie Hill and a brother Willie B. Jackson preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son James Curtis Alexander of Memphis, Tenn., a daughter Beatrice Matthew of Detroit, Mich., a devoted niece Hattie Murray of Lexa, who cared for him for many years until his brief stay at Crestpark; another special niece, Evelyn Mitchell of Marion; four stepsons, three step-daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena will direct services.

MINNIE MITCHELL

Funeral services for Minnie Mae Mitchell, 63, of West Helena will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Phillips, Lee, Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing. The Rev. Lonnie Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Oneida Community cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena.

Mitchell born Dec. 4, 1940 to the late Effie and Robert Burks, died April 8, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and later joined the Calvary M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. J.C. King and remained an active member until her health failed. Her oldest daughter, Beverly Mitchell Parchman, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 47 years, Rafe Mitchell Jr., five daughters and their families, Deborah and Peter Knowlton, Elnora and Orlando Moore, and Gwendolyn Mitchell of West Helena, Cynthia Mitchell of Helena. Joyce and Cleo Jones of Pine Bluff; three sons, Willie Mitchell and Donnie Mitchell of West Helena and Robert Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn., two sisters Erma and Walter Johnson of Helena, and Magnolia Boie of Flint, Mich., three brothers, Michael and Lennille Kirby of Little Rock, Arthur Kirby Jr., and Betty Kirby and Robert Kirby of Chicago, Ill., her stepfather Arthur Kirby Sr. and wife Ann, of Helena; 30 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts uncles, relatives and friends.

Brown's Home for Funerals will direct services.

WILLIE CARPENTER

Funeral services for Willie Lee Carpenter, 55, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Edwards will officiate. Burial will be at the Pilgrim cemetery in Marianna.

Carpenter born Nov. 11, 1948 to Bernice Carpenter in Lee County, died April 5, 2004 in San Francisco.

He was a 1968 graduate of Eliza Miller High School in West Helena. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Zion Hill M.B. Church under he leadership of the late Rev. A.L. Woodson. He served on the usher board until he moved to California.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Bernice Carpenter Martin; two aunts, Gurlean and the Rev. Leroy Williams of Helena and Mae Emma Powell of Chicago, Ill., one uncle W.C. Carpenter of Marianna; a nephews Greg McDaniel of Helena and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena will direct services.

ARTIC BAKER

Artic James Baker, 24, of Memphis, formerly of West Helena died April 13, 2004.

Funeral services will be announced later by Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena.

ELMORE WASHINGTON

Funeral arrangements for Elmore Washington, 73, of West Helena will be announced later by Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena.

Washington died April 13, 2004 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

HERMAN L. COLEMAN

Herman L. Coleman, affectionately known by his friends as "Little Boy" was born Dec. 31, 1951, to the late Nolan and Rosetta Coleman in Marvell, he died Friday, April 9, 2004.

He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.

Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, April 17 at the Mount Olive cemetery in the Santuck Community near Marvell.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at the chapel of Progressive Funeral Parlor in Marvell.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving grandmother Lucille Sebastian of Poplar Grove; a daughter Jessica Brown of West Memphis, six brothers Rufus Coleman and wife Patricia of Springdale, John L. Coleman and wife Stacy of Fort Worth, Texas, W.A. Coleman; Floyd "Pop" Coleman and wife Elizabeth, Edward "Ed" Coleman and wife Rochelle; and Jesse Coleman and wife Lisa all of West Memphis and special friend, Sharon Barner; a host of nieces nephews, close cousin Karen Perkins and her husband John and relatives and friends.

Progressive Funeral Parlor in Marvell will direct services.

MINNIE MITCHELL

Funeral services for Minnie Mae Mitchell, 63, of West Helena will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the P.L.M. & D. District Center, Helena Crossing. The Rev. Lonnie Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be at the Oneida Community cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the New Zion Church in West Helena.

Mitchell passed away April 8, 2004.

Brown's Home for Funerals will direct services.

WILLIE CARPENTER
