STEVE MALLARD

Funeral services for Steve Mallard, 43, of Lexa will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. The Rev. David Crouch will officiate. Burial will be at Central cemetery

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Mallard, born Dec. 15, 1959, in Wasco, Calif., died June 2, 2003, in Lexa. Wycamp Fertilizer Company employed Mallard.

He leaves his mother Jewell Mallard of Lexa; two brothers, Calvin Mallard of Lexa and David Mallard of West Helena; a son, Joey Wright; two stepdaughters, Erika Brubaker and Marina Dill of Jasper; two grandchildren and one step-grandchild of Jasper, Ala., and a host of nieces and nephews.

His father Leroy Mallard Sr. and a brother Leon Mallard preceded him in death.

Pallbearers will be David Wilson, George Doster, Ricky Beard, Timmy Black, Timmy Hopper and Mike Wooten.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

VICKEY WILSON

Funeral services for Vickey Hubbard Wilson, 26, of Barksdale Air Force Base, La., will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Brother Matt Hill will officiate. Burial will be at Odd Fellows cemetery in West Helena.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Wilson, born July 5, 1976, in Clarksdale, Miss., died May 31, 2003, in Boosier City, La. She was a homemaker and a member of the Clarksdale Junior Auxiliary.

She leaves her husband James Wilson of Boosier City, La.; a son, Kaleb Wilson of Boosier City; a daughter, Ciara Wilson of Boosier City; a sister, Stephanie Bailey of Little Rock; two brothers, Jason Hubbard of Clarksdale, Miss., and Mark Hubbard of Marks, Miss; her father James Hubbard of Clarksdale, Miss., her grandmother Betty Allen of Hazen; her grandfather, Marcellus Newkirk of Batesville; a special aunt, Melinda Cook of Brinkley.

Preceding her in death were her mother Bobbie Jo Hubbard and a brother James C. Alvin Hubbard Jr.

Pallbearers will be Ben Trevno, Scott Faust, John Graham, James Newkirk, David Newkirk and Randy Palmer.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

MIKE LAKE

A memorial service for former Phillips County resident Mike Lake, 50, of Hot Springs will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Pastor Jonathan Beyer will officiate.

Lake, born May 2, 1953, in Helena, died June 1, 2003, at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs.

He was a member of EOE No. 4369.

He leaves his wife, Robin Lake of Hot Springs; his mother Margie Pauls of Fayetteville; a son Robert M. Lake II of Conway; a daughter and son-in-law Summer and Billy Brewster; two brothers and their families, Milton and Becky Lake of Greenbrier and Raymond and Jackie Lake of Fayetteville and a sister, Mary Leatherby of Tampa, Fla., and three grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Gregory Whorton, Dr. Stanley Josef, Dr. Kim Agee; St. Joseph's Hospital ICU and Staff, Carmen Peret; Sister Dorothy Calhoun; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs will direct services.

Verna Cremeen

Mrs. Verna Cremeen, age 95, a long time resident of Brinkley, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Little Rock where she made her home for the past few years.

She was born Nov. 21, 1907, in Ravenden Springs, Ark. to the late Bernard and Nora Ann Beck Rafferty; her husband, Thomas Benjamin Cremeen, whom she married in 1921, preceded her in death. A brother, Jesse Raferty of Benton; a sister, Margie R. Jones, of Little Rock; and a grandson, Mark Cremeen of Helena, also preceded her in death.

Cremeen was a retired sales clerk and homemaker. She was a noted gardener, and cared for her lovely garden on South New Orleans Street until she was in her 80s. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brinkley.

She leaves two sons, Dr. Thomas Lee Cremeen of Marianna and Dr. Bill Cremeen and wife Louise of Maumelle; four grandchildren, Bill Cremeen and wife Sonia of Atlanta, Ga., Beverly Cremeen of the Netherlands, Thomas Cremeen Jr. of Alexander, and Leanne Cremeen Johnson and husband Kyle of Little Rock; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emma and Luke Cremeen of Atlanta.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 29, 2003, at Oaklawn cemetery in Brinkley. Brother Jim McDaniel will officiate.

Fowler Funeral Home of Brinkley will direct services.

FRANK KING

Graveside services for Frank "Cotton" King, 76, of the Indian Bay community in Monroe County were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Turner cemetery in the Turner community. Bro. Steve Cox officiated.

King, born April 14, 1927, in Norphlet, Ark., died May 25, 2003, at his home. He was a retired press operator for Mohawk Tire and Rubber Company, was a member of the St. Charles Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Betty King of Indian Bay; a daughter and son-in-law, Miranda K. and Nolon B. Gregory of West Helena; and two brothers, Billy J. King of Holly Grove and Kay Kyser King of West Helena.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home directed services.

WALTER FEY

PINE BLUFF - Dr. Walter Roger Fey, 88, of Pine Bluff, died May 23, 2003, at the Trinity Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

Dr. Fey was born Sept. 7, 1914, in the Southland community to the late Walter and Cora Bryant Fey. He grew up in West Helena and graduated from Helena High School in 1932. He attended Memphis State University (the University of Memphis), Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.

Prior to serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he worked for 10 years with his father on the family cotton farm.

On October 17, 1947, he married Lucille Haley in Batesville. In 1949, Dr. and Mrs. Fey moved to Pine Bluff where he practiced optometry until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff where he had served as Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, officer of the Men of the Church, deacon and elder. He was a member of the Arkansas Optometric Society, the American Optometric Society, the American Legion, and the Rotary Club since 1951.

Two brothers, Robert Fey of West Helena and David Fey of San Marcos, Texas, preceded Dr. Fey in death.

He leaves his wife, Lucille Haley Fey; two sons, Walter Roger "Buddy" Fey Jr. and wife Ruthie of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephen Haley Fey and wife Vicki of Bristol, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Alan Fey and Jordan Fey of Bristol.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff with the Rev. William Lee Kinney officiating. Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors directed services (online obituary and register: ralphrobinsonandson.com.)

Memorials may be made in Dr. Fey's memory to Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home and Family Services Inc., Prospect Building, 1501 N. University, Suite 260, Little Rock AR 72207.

JAMES LEOPPARD

FORREST CITY - James A. "Butch" Leoppard, 57, of Heth, died Sunday at his home. His death came sudden and unexpected.

Leoppard was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Forrest City, and was the son of Troy W. and Laura Mildred "Midge" Leoppard. He lived in the St. Francis County area most of his life, was a former employee of the Rock Island Railroad and was a Baptist.

Leoppard leaves a son, James Clark Leoppard of Miami, Okla.; two daughters, Kammie Stowe of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Piper Leigh Wagner of Harker Heights, Texas; his mother, Mildred Leoppard of Forrest City; a brother, Todd Leoppard of Helena; a sister, Patsy R. Davis of West Memphis; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2003, at Forrest Park cemetery in Forrest City.

Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City directed services.

IRA MEDLEY

Funeral arrangements for Ira Joe Medley, 52, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of West Helena, are incomplete and will be announced later by Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.

Medley died May 17, 2003, in Los Angeles.

FRANK KIRKLEY

MARVELL - Funeral services for Frank Everett Kirkley, 58, of Marvell will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the Cypert Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Turner cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.

Kirkley was born Jan. 7, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo. the son of John Everett and Lillian Rushin Kirkley. He died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at his home in Marvell. He was employed for many years as a plant manager for Douglas & Lomason in Marianna. He was a member of the Cypert Church of Christ, the Brair Ridge Hunting Club and the Fools Hill Hunting Club.

He leaves his wife Ruth Patterson Kirkley of Marvell; his mother, Lillian Alvern Kirkley of Helena; a son, Frank Kirkley Jr. and wife Beth of Jonesboro; three daughters and their families, Renée Williams and husband Randy of Branson, Mo., Denise Gschwend and husband, Lenny Ray of Jonesboro and Tiffany Alexander and husband Lyn of DeWitt; a foster daughter, Jackie Jacks Rutherford and husband, Dee of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Johnny Kirkley of Batesville and Walter Kirkley of Atkins; two sisters, Jo Ann Parker and Peggy Martin of West Helena; eleven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Norris Aunspaugh, Johnny Benham, J.W. Beard, Nathan Patterson, Allan Culp and Gene Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Grider, Gary Catlett and Johnny Rose.

Memorials may be made to the Wings Cancer Foundation, 110 North Humphries, Memphis, TN., 38120 or Hospice, P.O. Box 788, Forrest City, AR. 72336-0788.

Arrangements are by Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.

LEONARD AMOS

CLARENDON - Funeral services for Leonard Amos, 41, of Clarendon will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Clarendon High School Auditorium. Elder McArthur Dismuke will officiate. Burial will be at Shady Grove cemetery in Clarendon.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Faith Deliverance Center in Clarendon.

Amos, born March 14, 1962, to Edith Wynn Amos and the late Ervin Dillard Amos Sr. died June 4, 2003, at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Elder Wiley Johnson.

He attended the Clarendon Public Schools, graduating in 1980. He was active in basketball, football and track. He received a scholarship to play football for Coahoma Junior College in Coahoma, Miss. He worked for Riceland Foods before attending college. Later Lennox Industries employed him for 12 years before his health failed.

He leave to cherish his memory; a son Cedric Houston of Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter, Alisha Houston of Clarendon; the children's mother, Lynette Houston and a granddaughter, Precious C. Houston of Clarendon; his mother, Edith Amos of Clarendon; a brother, Ervin Dillard Amos Jr. of Clarendon; four sisters, Carmanetta Sain, Florence Amos, Angela Amos and Loretta Amos of Clarendon; four aunts, Erma Robinson of Chicago, Ill., Ruthie Tyree and Mary Abston and husband Herod of Clarendon and Sharon Amos of Brinkley; 11 nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and two long-time friends, Davis Lee and the Rev. Willie Gilmore.

Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena will direct services.
