Kenneth Edwin Stoner

Barton/Lexa, Ark. - Funeral services for Kenneth Edwin Stoner, 80, of Lexa will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Helena. Father Joe Marconi will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery.

Visitation with Rosary services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Stoner, born Aug. 20, 1927 in Tuckerman to the late Charles Hubert Stoner and the late Nola Jane Cooper Stoner, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Memphis.

At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Boston and the USS Bordelon as a radioman first class. In 1954, he moved to Helena as manager of Trans Texas Airlines. He left the airlines to start a career as a farmer. Stoner retired from farming to serve as Phillips County judge from 1989 to 1996. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at Helena Regional Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Jennie Lee Bornhoft Stoner and eight children, Declan Stoner and Donna Osbon (Clifford) of Brandon, Miss., Becky Gattas (Philip) of Crumrod, Janet Bryant (Terry) of Nesbit, Miss., Karen VonKanel of Lexa, Debbie Roberson (Stan) of Arkadelphia, Brian Stoner (Beth) of Helena and Bill Stoner (Shelia) of Helena-West Helena; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stoner’s grandsons, Philip Gattas Jr., Chris Shockley, Brian Shockley, Ben VonKanel, Kyle Stoner, Ryan Stoner and Barry Stoner. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul VonKanel and members of the Knights of Columbus.

The family requests that no flowers be sent but instead donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 123 Columbia St., Helena, AR 72342.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Robert Lee Jackson

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Robert Lee Jackson, 80, of Elaine will be held at 1 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist church in Elaine. Elder Freddie span will officiate. Burial will be at in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the Kincaid Auditorium at 1164 Highway 49, West Helena.

Jackson, born July 27, 1927 in Dundee, Miss., to the late Robert Henry and Grover Kelly Jackson, died June 16, 2008 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

He grew up in Elaine and was a faithful member of the Morning Star Baptist Church. On Dec. 25, 1947 he married Jessie Mae and their union was blessed with 13 children, 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie Mae Jackson and seven children, Perry, William, Stanley, Larry, Marvin, Floyd and Laura.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Robert (Denise) Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson and Gwendolyn Jackson all of Chicago, Ill., Rommie (Frances) Jackson of West Helena, Lonnie Jackson of Helena, Shirley (John) Robinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters in law, Vera, Shirley and Patricia; two sisters, Sarah Bobo and Odessa Young; 22 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kincaid Funeral Services Inc.

Junita Bradley Bridges

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Junita Bradley Bridges, 73, of Helena-West Helena, died Saturday, June 28 in Helena. Junita was born Aug. 30, 1934 in Rosedale, Miss. to the late Jack Delton Bradley Sr. and Louella Reed Bradley.

She leaves her daughters, Anita Bridges Williams and husband, Robert, and Loretta Williams and husband, Scott; sons, Bobby Ray Bridges and Billy Joe Bridges, Jr. and wife, Lottie; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Samuel Bradley and wife, Evelyn and Billy Bradley.

A son, Jimmy Lynn Bridges; husband, Joe Bridges; a daughter, Barbara Ann Bridges, and her parents preceded her in death.

Services for Junita Bridges will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Roller-Citizens. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens.

Melverline Porter

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral service from Melverline Porter, 75, of Barton will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Phillips, Lee Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing. The Rev. Lloyd Bourne will officiate. Burial will be in the Liddell cemetery on Old Little Rock Road. A repast will be held at the Mt Gilliam A.M.E. Church in Barton following the services.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, July 4 at the Calhoun Funeral Home at 230 Walnut Street in Helena-West Helena.

Porter, born Aug. 11, 1932 in Marvell, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

She was married to the late Lloyd Porter Sr., and was the mother of 12 children.

A son, Tommy Jean Porter also preceded her in death.

She was a faithful member of the Mt. Gilliam A.M.E. Church at Barton, where she also served as an usher.

She leaves five sons, Carl Porter (Sheila) of Little Rock, Lloyd Porter Jr. (Hattie) of Helena-West Helena, Jerry Porter (Cynthia) of Oakland, Calif., James Porter (Edna) of Barton and Albert Porter (Janice) of Memphis, Tenn.; six daughter, Jeraldine Donahoo (Wyatt) of Barton, Cuarlstine Thomas (John) of Barton, Karlin Stackhouse (Jesse) of Mt. View, Calif., Naomi Davis (Jimmy) of Barton, Ola Porter (Johnny) of Jacksonville and Marshall Dalencourt (Richard) of Brooklyn, N. Y.; a brother, Algee Hollowell (Charlene) of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Delores Booker, Willie Hargrove of Helena-West Helena and Willie Jean Brown of Chicago, Ill., 30 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Calhoun Funeral Home will direct services.

Quimba Potts

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside services for Quimba Potts, 73, of Helena will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Odd Fellows cemetery at0 Helena-West Helena. Rev. Luke Watson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Rev. Luke Watson will officiate.

Potts, born June 11, 1935 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. to the late Archie Richard Potts and the late Eppie Lou Terry Potts, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Memphis.

He leaves his wife, Lottie Short Potts of Wabash; a daughter, Pat Watson of Wabash; a son, Rex Potts and wife, Susan, of Wabash; four sisters; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Odis Gregory, David Harper, Ricky Caery, Ronnie Loeschner, Jimmy Hoover, Chris Haycraft, George James and Chris Potts. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Short, Chester Myatt, Junior Merritt and George Carden.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Fannie Odell Davis

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Fannie Odell Davis, 92, of Elaine died Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Pontotoc Miss. Fannie was born April 24, 1916 in Leachville, Ark. to the late Hardy Tilman and Nora Crafton.

She leaves two sons, Edwin Davis and wife, Ruby of Mellwood and Jerry Davis and wife Ginger of Elaine; two daughters, Frances Simmons and husband Vince, of Garden City, Kansas and JoAnn Knight and husband, Will of Pontotoc; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude “Peck” Davis; daughter, Connie Faye Davis Vondran; grandson, Danny Davis and son-in-law, Larry Greathouse.

Services for Fannie Odell Davis will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 at Roller-Citizens. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena. Pallbearers will be Martin Greathouse, Bill Knight, Greg Greathouse, Steve Knight, Rusty Davis, James George, Harold Tillman and Billy Bobbitt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Knight, Robert Wilson, Troy McKinney, Chester Myatt and Danny Vondran.

Services directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, 870-572-2571.

Tonya Shephard

Hornlake, MS - Funeral services for Tonya Shephard, 36, of Horn Lake, Miss. are incomplete and will be announced later by Brown’s Home for Funerals, Inc.

Shephard passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Horn Lake, Miss.

James Kenneth McGrew

North Little Rock, AR - James Kenneth McGrew, 77, of Benton, died July 1, 2008 in Benton. He was born November 18, 1930 in Mellwood to the late Cagie Allen and Amy Lee (Floyd) McGrew. McGrew was a civil/structural engineer with the Corps of Engineers and also self-employed with Mac-Tech, Inc. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a member of Parkview United Methodist Church in Benton.

His parents and a brother, Carl McGrew, preceded him.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice McGrew; daughters, Amanda L. McGrew of Benton, Jamie L. Coleman, M.D. and husband Jerry, of Duncanville, Texas, and Leigh Ann Mountcastle of Frisco, Texas; one granddaughter, Claire Mountcastle; three grandsons, Davis Mountcastle, Porter Coleman, and Noah Coleman, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Friday, July 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Parkview United Methodist Church with Rev. Dee Edwards officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will be at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery in North Little Rock.

Carolyn Johnston

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside services for Carolyn Johnston, 57, of Helena-West Helena will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Sunset Memorial Park. Brother Dwight Minor will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Johnston, born Jan. 15, 1951 in Oneida to Margie Hardwick Peppers and the late Arnie Peppers, died Monday, June 30, 2008 in Helena.

She leaves her daughters, Christine Lynchard and husband, Jackie of Florence, Miss., Cynthia Loeschner and husband, John of Wynne, and Rachel Johnston of Helena-West Helena; her mother, Margie Hartwick Peppers of Hardy; grandchildren, David Lynchard, Gwen Lynchard, Deena Darnell, Dawson Darnell, Maddy-Belle Darnell, Kristie Loeschner, Briar Loeschner, Dustin Loeschner and Johnathon Johnston; sisters, Faye Hopper, Dorothy Gassaway, Reba King, Debbie Williams and Robin Santiago; brothers, Bobby Peppers, Billy Peppers, Randy Peppers and Donald Peppers; and a host of family and friends.

Her father and her husband, David Larry Johnston preceded her in death.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Iesha Jasmine Donaby

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Iesha Jasmine Donaby, 17, of West Helena will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Twin City Church of Christ Highway 49 in West Helena with the Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Gardens near Lexa. Visitation will be Friday, July 4, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.

Donaby was born on May 9, 1991 to James and Annie Lee Donaby; died on Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Wesley Medical Center in Witchita, Kan.

She attended Central High School in Helena-West Helena and would have been a 2009 graduate where she continuously maintained a 3.6 grade point average and was a member of the Silver Cloud Missionary Baptist Church in Helena. She was very devoted to her education and had planned on attending college after graduation.

She will forever be cherished by her loving and caring father and mother, James and Annie Lee Donaby of West Helena; three brothers, Dometric (Shellvie) Steele of Memphis, TN, James (Teresa) Donaby III and Jermaine Donaby of West Helena; two sisters, Shirlette Donaby and Keiaundra Donaby of West Helena; her grandmothers; Sarah Bradley of West Helena, and Margarett Staten of Wichita, Kan. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Brown’s Home for Funerals, Inc. will direct the services.
