Brenda (Giles) White

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Brenda (Giles) White, 52, of Helena and formerly of Rondo, will be held noon Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at the Friendship M.B. Church in Rondo with Rev. Nathanial Hull Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship cemetery also in Rondo.

White was born Jan. 25, 1956 in Lexa to the late Martha Bailey. She confessed a hope in Christ at age 11 at the Friendship M.B. Church where she remained a faithful member in the youth choir as well as youth choir director.

She was a kind-hearted person who had a natural sense of humor that could be attributed to her mother, the late Martha Bailey and her grandmother, the late Ophelia Bailey Williams, who shared in the delight of raising her. Both preceded her in death.

She was a 1975 graduate of Barton High School and attended the Arkansas Rehab Center in Hot Springs where she learned the skill of upholstering. She was employed at several places doing upholstery and later opened the Superior Upholstery Shop in Marianna until she became ill. She later became a resident of Crestpark Intermediate Nursing Facility where she resided for 10 years.

She was married in 1983 to Henry Charles White and to their union a child was born who preceded Brenda in death.

Sister Brenda White died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Henry Charles White of Marianna; two stepdaughters, Gina White and Patricia White, both of Memphis; mother-in-law, Sarah White; three loving siblings, Helen (Nathaniel) Hull of Rondo, La Verne (Stan) Sims of Fairfax, Va. and Dr. Thomas (Debra) Bailey of Lexa; two sisters-in-law, Elvira Williams and Ada Jordan, both of Memphis; an aunt, Betty Henderson of Rondo; an uncle, Russell (June) Bailey of Gary, Ind.; three nieces, Tammy (D.L.) Richardson of Little Rock, Natalie Hull of Rondo and Vanessa Bailey of Lexa; seven nephews, Stan Hull, Nathanial Hull, Jr., (Laterria) of Hughes, Cory (Jennifer) Sims, D.J. Sims of Fairfax, Va., Trey Bailey and Jonathan Bailey, both of Jonesboro and Jordan Bailey of Lexa and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brown’s Home for Funeral’s Inc., will direct services.

Oscar Lee Barnes

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Oscar Lee Barnes, 31, of Marvell will be held noon Saturday Dec. 6, 2008 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Lexa with the Rev. Calvin Frierson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah cemetery in Marvell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Lexa.

Barnes, born June 27, 1977 in Helena to Lucille Dotson Leak and the late Henry (Bo) Barnes, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Marvell.

He grew up in Marvell and attended Marvell Public Schools.

His “Big Mama” Hattie Dotson; a brother, Kenny Johnson; two sisters, Erica King and Erran King; his father, grandfather, Fletcher Barnes; and uncle, Chris Dotson, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving mother and father, Lucille and Tharmon Leak of Marvell; his fiancé, Jacqueline Williams; two sisters, Sherita Salters and Samantha (Terry) Mackie of Baton Rouge, La.; his grandmother, Maebell Barnes of Marvell; 13 aunts, eight uncles, four nieces, two nephews; a close personal friend, pastor Calvin Frierson; a big brother, Kado Brown; and several cousins and close friends.

Brown’s Home for Funerals Inc. will direct services.

Elgin McClendon Dawson

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Elgin McClendon Dawson, 93, of Lexa will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at the Lexa Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Dawson, born April 2, 1915 in Arkansas to the late Luther Otis and Pearl Brantley McClendon, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at her home near Lexa.

She leaves a son, Van Dawson and wife, Suzanne of Lexa; a daughter, Ceclia Rose and husband, Ronald of Brickeys; a sister, Nettie Mae James of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Janelle Sellers of Earle, Montie Hobson of Rogers, Ray Dawson Jr. of Brickeys, Van Dawson Jr. of Forrest City, Will Dawson of Lexa, and Melissa Stone of Russellville; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband, Raymond Vanburen “Buck” Dawson; a son, Ray Henry Dawson; a brother, Hollis McClendon; and a sister, Virginia Webb preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Van Dawson Jr., Brian Stone, Will Dawson, Ray Dawson Jr., Kyle Stoner and Jim Sellers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Oxner and George Hobson.

Memorials may be made to the Lexa Baptist Church, P.O. Box 189, Lexa, AR. 72355.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Claudeen Rebecca Young-Davis

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Claudeen Rebecca Young-Davis 78, of the Southland community will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at the Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium at 1164 Highway 49 in Helena-West Helena. Brother Derek Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the Southland Church of Christ, 5265 Highway 242 West.

Claudeen was the third of eight children born to Evans and Emma Young Sr. on Oct. 11, 1921 in the Southland community. She died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

Her parents, husband, all of her siblings, and a granddaughter and a great- grandson preceded her in death. She was married to the late Lawrence W. Davis and they were the parents of six children.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Emmett (Cinthia) Davis of Rochester Hills, Mich., Milton (Alberta) Davis of the Southland community, Spencer (Loweena) Davis of Prairie, Texas, Lois Davis-Newton of the Southland community, Jacquelyn Davis of Inglewood, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Young of Compton, Calif. and Ida Mae Davis of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Kincaid Funeral Services Inc. will direct services.

Shirley Jean Seaton

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Shirley Jean Seaton, 61, were held Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale, Miss. with the Rev. Kenneth Harmon officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery at Clarksdale.

Jones was born Aug. 22, 1947 at Hattiesburg, Miss. to the late Dorothy Elizabeth Teasley and Victor Leroy Bishop. She died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at Methodist University Hospital at Memphis. She was a homemaker who lived at Rena Lara, Miss. and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

She leaves her husband of 45 years, James Seaton of Rena Lara; five daughters, Sherry Sparks of Helena-West Helena, Jenny Taylor and her husband, Johnny, of Moon Lake, Miss., Donna Neighbors and husband, Lindsey of Helena-West Helena and Lisa Seaton of Helena-West Helena and Mary Horton and her husband, Chris, of Cleveland, Miss.; a son, William Seaton and wife, Carol, of Cleveland, Miss.; a sister, Vickie Fischer and husband, Mack of Clarksdale; a brother, Billy Bishop and wife, Lisa, of Cleveland, Miss.; a brother, Eddie Bishop of Clarksdale; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Marie LaBelle Hilpert

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Marie LaBelle Hilpert, 93, of McAlester, Okla. and formerly of Helena-West Helena will be held 10 a.m. today, Dec. 5, 2008 in the Roller Citizens Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena.

Hilpert, born March 3, 1915 in Big Sandy, Tenn. to the late Carl Warmack and Bennie Luster Hicks Warmack, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 in McAlester.

She leaves two sons, Fred Hilpert and wife, Maxine of Greenville, Ill. and Bobby Hilpert and wife, Carolyn of Grover, N.C.; three daughters, Irene Pollmann of New Baden, Ill., Betty Lou Ray of McAlester, Okla. and Mary McBroom of Helena; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great- grand children.

Her parents; her husband, Fred Howard Hilpert; two sisters, Martha Poehling and Maybelle Warmack; and three grandchildren, Ricky McBroom, Victor Rodgers and Curtis Pollmann, preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Ward, Tony Rodgers, Jeremy McCarty, Kris Pollmann, Joe Kettle and Jerry Lawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Lawson and Thedford Sparks.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Larry Ward

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Larry Ward, 66, of Marvell are incomplete and will be announced later by Brown’s Home for Funerals Inc.

Ward died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at his home in Marvell.

Brown’s Home for Funerals Inc. will direct services.

Willie Bernice Barner

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Willie Bernice Barner, 61, of Denver, Colo. and formerly of Holly Grove, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Pine City. Rev. Isaac Holland will officiate. Burial will be in Pine City cemetery.

Barner, born May 15, 1947 to Jack and Cassie Mae Barner in Holly Grove, died Nov. 29, 2008 in Denver with her family by her side.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sisters, Gertie Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Barner of Denver and Alma Flowers of Wichita, Kansas; and a host of relatives and friends.

Faye Rogers

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Faye Rogers, 50, of Helena-West Helena were held Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Rogers died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Little Rock. The Rev. Audie Richardson officiated at the service.

Rogers was born Feb. 10, 1958 to the late Ed and Esterine Smith. Her parents and two brothers, Charles Smith and Claudie Smith, preceded her in death.

She leaves her husband, James (Jimmy) Rogers; five sons, Andy Rogers, Randy Rogers and wife, Jenny, Brian Rogers and wife, Wendy, Danny Rogers and wife, Jennifer, and Ryan Rogers, all of Helena-West Helena; two daughters, Brandy Rice and husband, Coley, and Candy Rogers, all of Helena-West Helena; 13 grandchildren; eight siblings, Dorothy Wilson of Texas, Inez Pruitt of Memphis, Tenn., Juanita Williams of Fort Smith, Sue Laxson of Oklahoma, Brenda Hoover of Helena-West Helena, Donna Henderson of Jonesboro, Tony Smith of Texas, Ester Smith of Jonesboro and her father-in-law, J.C. Rogers.

David S. Jones

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside services for David S. Jones, 73, of Helena were held Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Park by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodger Hooker officiating.

Jones, who died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 in Helena, was born Sept. 25, 1935 at Ratio to the late Charles Fayette and Pearl V. Snyder Jones. He was a retired farmer and hunting club caretaker.

He leaves a son, Charles L. “Chuck” Jones and wife, Karen, of Helena-West Helena; 2 daughters, Donna J. Jones of Russellville and Susan Jones and Jim Chastain of Helena-West Helena; 2 grandchildren, Logan and Jill Jones of Helena; 3 sisters, Inez Burke of Elaine, Jeanette Clark of Elkins and Betty Moneymaker of Helena-West Helena; a sister-in-law, Jeannine Jones of Blair, Neb. and a special friend, Thomas Munn of Wynne. His parents, two brothers, Rudolph and Jimmy Jones and a sister, Desaree Toney, preceded him in death.

Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Moneymaker, Malloyd Moore, Thomas Munn and Ben Jones Clarke.

Catherine Webster

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside services for Catherine Webster, 86, who died Monday Nov. 24, 2008 in Helena-West Helena will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, in Maple Hill cemetery. The Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate at the service and burial under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Roller Citizens Funeral Home.

Webster was born on Jan. 19, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo. She was a loving mother with a passion for collecting dolls. She leaves three sons, Charles Moon and his wife, Glenda Faye, of Harrisburg, George Webster Jr. and wife, Pat, of Helena and Todd Hudman and wife, Amy, of Poplar Grove; 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, George Webster Sr. and two daughters, Shirley Morgan and Barbara Raines, preceded her in death.

ROBBIE G. STATON

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Robbie Staton, 69, of West Memphis, were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Barton.

She was a teacher at Palestine-Wheatley High School in Palestine and was of the Methodist faith. She died Nov. 26, 2008 at Crittenden Regional Hospital.

She leaves a son, Christopher Godwin Staton of Marion; her mother, Lera Ozell Godwin of West Memphis; and a brother, Aubrey Dale Godwin of Helena, to cherish her memory.
