Lynda Ann (Chandler) Elliott

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Lynda Ann (Chandler) Elliott, 66, of West Memphis, died Dec. 17, 2008 in West Memphis. She was born Jan. 26, 1942 in Paragould, the daughter of Louis and Helen (Sims) Chandler. Ann married Rev. J.E. Elliott on Oct. 1, 1959.
She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Harrisburg, where her husband was the minister. Ann loved the Lord. She was the Adult Ladies Sunday School teacher and was very active in other church activities. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, J.E.”Junior” Elliott Jr.; her parents and two brothers, Leslie and Paul Chandler.
Ann is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Rev. J.E. Elliott of West Memphis; three daughters, Angela Smith of Heber Springs, Leslie Snyder and husband, Tim of Lexa, and Alison Woolley and husband, Eric of Bartlett, Tenn.; a brother, Jim Chandler of Charleston S.C.; four sisters, Pat Black of Beebe, Nancy Weaver of Cash, Debbie Wilson of Mayflower, and Jeannia Chandler of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Kristen George, Matthew and Ashley Snyder; three great-grandchildren, Zoey and Lily Smith and Ariana George.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Vickers and Rev. Wayne Pense officiating. Interment will be in Center Hill cemetery of Paragould. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening at Jackson’s Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Arrangements are by Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home.

Kenneth Blackwell Winfrey

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside funeral services for former Phillips County Sheriff Kenneth Blackwell Winfrey, 68, of Jonesboro will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hope cemetery in Imboden.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Bryan Funeral Home in Hoxie.
Born Nov.14, 1940 in Black Rock, the son of Floyd and Pearl Willard Winfrey, he died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center.
He came to Phillips County as an Arkansas State Police Officer and served as Helena’s police chief before joining the Phillips County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as chief deputy until being elected sheriff.
He was a Baptist.
He married Norma Jeane Reed on Oct. 10, 1958. She preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 2005. A son, Kenneth Randal Winfrey, and a brother, Joe David Winfrey, also preceded him in death.
He leaves a daughter, Keena Kinsey and son-in-law Reed of Hot Springs; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Bowden and husband, Donald of Cherry Valley; five grandchildren, Darren Winfrey of San Antonio, Texas, Cameron Winfrey and wife, Amy of Aberdeen, Md., Elizabeth Bowden of Cherry Valley, Claire Kinsey and Grant Randall Kinsey of Hot Springs; his sisters-in-law, Liz Hickman of Clover Bend, Dianne Reed of Helena-West Helena, Carlene Winfrey of Louisville, Ky., and Shirley Reed of North Little Rock and his best friend, Wendell Grigsby of Jonesboro.
Bryan Funeral Home will direct services.
Upon learning of his death, former Phillips County Progress newspaper editor Dee Bailey, now also of Jonesboro, said that Kenneth Winfrey “enforced the law but he was never inhumane. He was a good lawman, one of the best and I’ve known many good lawmen.”

Demond Chambers

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral arrangements for Demond Chambers, 36, of Marianna are incomplete and will be announced later by Marianna Funeral Home. Funeral services are tentatively planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28 at the New Bethel Church in Marianna.
Chambers was a 1991 graduate of Barton High School.
Marianna Funeral Home will announce final arrangements later.

Robert Calvin Hoover

Barton/Lexa, Ark. - Funeral services for Robert Calvin Hoover, 61, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of West Helena, will be held at 11 a.m. in the Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium at 1164 Highway 49 in Helena-West Helena. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Garden.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium. Final viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Saturday prior to the services.
Hoover, born May 30, 1947 to the late Malary and Patsy Simmons-Hoover in West Helena, died March 12, 2009 in Sapulpa, Okla.
He was married to Dr. Ruth Hoover of Tulsa.
Robert attended Westside School and Eliza Miller Senior High School in 1965-1967; he then furthered his education at Mary Holmes College in West Point, Miss. He received an Associates Degree in Business Administration. From 1967-1969, Robert attended Arkansas AM&N (currently known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). He received a Bachelor of Art Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting and Economics. From 1990 to the time of his death, Robert was the president and general Manager of Robert Hoover Inc.
He had many accomplishments and received many honors. He was on the board of Mary Holmes College, received a citation from MAFEO by Mary Holmes College. He also received citation from the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. He was a member of the NAACP, he volunteered for the Adolescent Treatment home in Tulsa, Okla. He also did work for the Urban League. Hoover was driven to promote higher education as a tool for life.
He was an avid golfer and also participated regularly in the East-West Golf Classic, the proceeds of which are used to fund the college education of many students. He also enjoyed tennis and travelinG. His father, Malary Hoover; his mother Patsy Simmons Hoover; a sister, Ollie Mae Jennings; a brother, Clyde Walter Hoover and a son, Robert Calvin Hoover Jr, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dr. Ruth Hoover; his son Robert R. Cain of Chicago, Ill; his siblings, Maggie T. Norwood of Gary, Ind., George Hoover of Little Rock, Ora Lee and Evelyn Hoover of West Helena; his grandchildren, Lauren Cain and Raymond Cain both of Chicago; a great-grandchild, Makaila Cain of Chicago; a brother-in-law, Wade Jennings and many relatives and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kincaid Funeral Services Inc.

Peggy Jean Maxwell

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral services for Peggy Jean Maxwell, 37, of Helena-West Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home chapel. Brother Charles Shipman will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Maxwell, born May 15, 1971 in Helena to Luke Little and Aline Hall Conkin, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Helena-West Helena.
Peggy was a fun-loving and outgoing person, who was like a mother to all. She enjoyed making arts and crafts.
She leaves her partner, Johnny Bowden of Helena-West Helena; sons, James Kennedy and wife, Blanca, of Helena-West Helena, Tyler Little of Helena-West Helena and Jerry Moore of Dixon, Tenn.; a daughter, Alisha Little of Palestine, Texas; two grandchildren, David and Daniel Kennedy; her mother, Aline Conkin of Helena-West Helena; father, Luke Little of Milan, Tenn.; three brothers, Sonny Byrd and Neal Byrd of Helena-West Helena and Allen Little and wife, Donna of Milan, Tenn.; four sisters, Adell Vaughn, Bernice Williams, Ivon Ray and husband, David, and Margie Dillinger, all of Helena-West Helena; and a host of other family and friends.
Her grandparents and her brother-in-law, Ray Dillinger, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Kennedy, David Mills, William Hamilton, Tony Byrd, Allen Hutchins, Billy Morrow and Robert Meadows.
Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

Preston Aurelia Jacobs

Barton/Lexa, Ark. - Preston Aurelia Jacobs, 55, died at Helena Regional Medical Center March 19, 2009. Jacobs was born Aug. 18, 1953. Funeral services will be held March 28, 2009 at the New Zion M. B. Church, 225 Ladino, Helena-West Helena at 11 a.m. Repast will be held at the New Zion Community Center. R.J. "Jerry" Suddath

HELENA-WEST HELENA - R.J. "Jerry" Suddath, 81, of Marvell, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in Marvell. Mr. Suddath was born March 16, 1928 in Asherton, Texas to the late Louis Benjamin Suddath and the late Ila Snyder Suddath. Jerry was an outstanding Phillips County farmer for six years and served on the Farm Bureau board and the PCA board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He leaves two sons, Jerome Suddath and wife, Ann, of Helena-West Helena and Ed Suddath of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Becky Harris of Houston; three grandchildren, Sean Murphy of Phoenix, Ariz., Cliff Heffner of Marks, Miss., and Tammie Dugger of Batesville, Miss.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Anne Hirsch of Marvell.
His parents and his wife, Edwene Suddath, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Fowler officiating.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors+ choice.

Barbara Ann Jackson Konadu

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Funeral Services for Barbara Ann Jackson Konadu will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Arlington, Texas. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas.
Konadu was born Dec. 22, 1964 to the late Willie & Eula Jackson in Marvell. She confessed a hope in Christ at the First Baptist Church in Lake View and later joined the Kingdom Hall and became a witness for Jehovah.
Barbara was loved and cherished by many. She will be truly missed and she will be in our hearts forever.
Her parents, Willie and Eula; a sister, Shirley Jackson Griffin; a brother, Jesse Love; and an adopted brother, Arthur Love, preceded Barbara in death.
She departed this life on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at her home in Arlington.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her adopted mother, Essie Jackson, of Lake View; a brother, James Gardner, of Webb, Miss.; three special nieces, Valerie Griffin (Terry) of Barton, Sherri (Barney) Patrick, of Forest, Miss., Maxine (Edward) Brown, of Beaumont, Texas; two special nephews, Terry and Terrance Sidney, of Barton; adopted brothers and sisters, Archie (Erma) Jackson, of Lake View, Jerry (Charlene) Jackson, of Lake View, Melvin (Patricia) Jackson, of Gary, Ind., Willie (Josephine) Jackson, of Lexa, Samuel (Irma) Jackson, of Elaine, Johnny Jackson, of Lake View, Timmy (Mary) Jackson, of Poplar Grove, Ethel Jackson, of St. Louis, Virginia (Ricky) Ware, of Arlington, Trina Jackson (Tyrone), of Lake View; an aunt, Loretta Jackson, of Helena-West Helena; a special friend, Gregory Kemp of Beaumont; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and her spiritual sisters and brothers.
Elder Mike Sanders will officiate.

Casey Renay Webb

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Casey Renay Webb 27, of Helena-West Helena will be held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel in Helena. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
Casey Renay Webb was born Aug. 27, 1981, to Carol Hatch and Scotty Parker in Helena. She was the first child of eight siblings.
Casey accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. Casey was full of life and was loved by everyone. She was a wonderful mother and a wonderful wife.
Casey passed away on April 17, 2009 in Helena-West Helena at her grandparents’ home.
Her mother, Carol Lynn Hatch, and great grandparents, Eva and W.L. Hall, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Donald Webb; daughter; Chelsey Gould; sons, Logan Webb and Zack Webb, of Helena-West Helena; father, Scotty Parker; grandparents; Pauline and Junior Bailey and Kenneth and Darlene Parker; brothers; Chris Gould of Lexa, Blake Bailey of Paragould, Timothy Bailey of Earle and Joshua Bailey of Paragould; sisters, Katie Kelley of Paragould, Rebecca Lilly of Paragould, and Jennifer Lund of Paragould; 13 nieces; and nephews, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
Brown’s Home For Funerals will direct the services.

Don Wesley Howell Sr.

Helena-West Helena, Ark. - Graveside services for Don Wesley Howell Sr., 73, of Marvell will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Marvell cemetery with Rev. Larry Rice officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home chapel in Marvell.
Howell, born July 16, 1935 in Postelle the son of James and Lola Dockery Howell, died Sunday, April 26, 2009.
Don was a farmer and had worked for MFA Oil Co. in Marvell.
He leaves his wife, Mary Ann Hindsley Howell of Marvell; a son, Don Howell Jr., and wife, Janet of Marvell; a brother, Doyle Howell and wife, Velma of Marvell; a sister, Pauline Smith and husband, Paul of Bethpage, Tenn.; and two granddaughters, Kimberly and Kelly Howell.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Catlett, Adam Catlett, Leslie Howell, Mikell Fitts, Mitchell Fitts and Jimmy Wayne Monroe.
Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell will direct services.
