Heaven Renea Cleora Heard

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Heaven Renea Cleora Heard, 9 months old, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mack Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist cemetery in Elaine. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
Heard was born on Aug. 11, 2008 in Memphis to Nazareth Mitchell Jr. and Jalesa Lashae Heard.
Her maternal great grandparents, Sammie and Cleora Heard, preceded her in death.
She departed this life May 31, 2009 in Memphis.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Jalesa Lashae Heard of Memphis; her father; Nazareth Mitchell Jr. of Helena; her loving grandmother, Mary Lou Heard of Memphis; her grandfathers, Nazareth Mitchell Sr. of Helena-West Helena, Christopher Wheat Sr. of New Mexico; her great grandmother, Florestine Wheat of Las Vegas, Nev.; her great-great grandmother, Revia Manuel of Helena-West Helena; a brother; Ne’vaeh Roshod Heard of Memphis; 2 uncles, Christopher Wheat Jr. and Cortney Wheat of New Mexico; an aunt; Taisha Wheat of Memphis; two godmothers, March Brown and Tylana Johnson of Memphis; a very special friend of the family, Charles Reed of Memphis and a host of other relatives and friends.
Browns Home for Funerals Inc. will direct the services.

Bertha Martin

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Bertha Martin, 71, of Minneapolis, Minn. and formerly of Chicago, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Star Rock Church at 4700 W. Rice in Chicago with Pastor J.C. Marshall officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Star Rock Church. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge cemetery in Hillside, Ill.
Martin was born on March 15, 1938 to Otto Washington and Emma (Lewis) Washington. She was the younger of two children.
Bertha gave herself to Christ at an early age.
She later became a member of Star Rock. She moved to Minneapolis and became a faithful member at Tabernacle of Praise Church.
She will forever be remembered for her fondness of crocheting, cooking, dancing, and photo collecting. She was a devoted wife to Alfonzia Martin Sr. whom she married in December 1956.
Bertha Martin was called home May 31, 2009.
Her parents Otto and Emma Washington, her husband Alfonzia Martin Sr., her older brother John Edward Washington and her daughter, Denise Martin, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories, seven children, Alfonzia Jr. (Dessie Ree) of Chicago, Arlene, Dana, James, Patricia and Sabrina of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; an uncle, Bernard Boom; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Brown’s Home for Funerals, Inc. will direct the services.

Teresa C. Forth

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Memorial services for Teresa C. Forth are incomplete and will be announced later.
Forth, born Nov. 15, 1962, died June 4, 2009 at home.
She leaves her life partner, Patricia Noble; a sister, Mary Parker of the home; a brother, Raymond Parker Jr., of Helena-West Helena; two nephews, Daniel Parker and Jerry Weaver of the home; and a special mother, Lou Jackson of the home. She also leaves a special son, Kevin Wright of Florida; and a special daughter, Sherry Allen of Helena-West Helena; 10 special grandchildren she helped raise; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Her mother Mildred (Gosa) Bedford, her father, Raymond Parker, and a sister, Loretta Smith, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock.

A celebration of life and farewell for Teresa C. Forth who left this earthly body on June 4, 2009 will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at the First Church of the Nazarene on Highway 49 in Helena-West Helena. The pastor, Brother Al Ward will officiate.
Following the services a fellowship will be held at the home at 321 Cleburne St. in Helena-West Helena. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations and memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock in her memory.

Bernice Roach

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Bernice Roach 90, of Lexa died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, they would like donations be made to the Springlake M.B. Church Building Fund in her memory.
Please submit all words of expressions to Jackson and Highley Funeral Home, 126 Panama Road, West Helena, AR 72390 by Thursday, June 11, 2009 to be included in a memorial folder.

Edmond Garrison

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Graveside services for Edmond Garrison, 77, of Houston, Texas will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Garrison, born Nov.13, 1931 in Cooper, Texas to the late William Walter Garrison and the late Bertha Agnes Alford Garrison, died Monday, June 8, 2009 in Houston.
He worked as a construction engineer for 39 years for Bridge and Industrial Plant Construction and retired in November 1995. He was a member of the Louisiana Society of Professional Engineers, the Masonic Lodge of West Helena, and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Garrison also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He leaves his wife, Bettye Davis Garrison of Houston; two sons, Mark Garrison and wife, Mandy, of Houston and Craig Garrison and wife, Lee, of Destin, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
He was the last surviving child of 17 children. His parents also preceded him in death.
Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena will direct services.

Annie Mae Willis

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Annie Mae Willis, 89, of Little Rock and Tacoma, Wash. died June 4, 2009. She was born June 17, 1919 in Marianna to Jasper and Tiller Bills Smith. She was the widow of Fred Willis of Midland Heights. She gave her life to Christ in 1938 and in her younger years, she was a member of the Church of God in Christ in Helena and in her later years was a member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Little Rock and Faith Outreach Church of God in Christ in Tacoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a son, Eddie Lee Jenkins; a grandson, Joshua Carthan; sisters, Thelma Christian and Luella Slaughter; brothers, Joe Smith, Sammy Smith, Allan Smith, and Roosevelt Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Billy (Pat) Carthan Sr. of Tacoma; two grandchildren, Iris Carthan of Seattle and Billy Carthan Jr. of Vandenberg AFB in California; a great granddaughter, Rashonda Carthan of Tacoma; a great grandson, Amon Carthan of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Lula Mae Glenn of Little Rock, Ora Rainey-Brewster of Helena-West Helena and Sylvia (Linzsay) Richardson of Los Angeles; a goddaughter, Lodessa (Sonny) English of Helena; a favorite niece, Jerlene Carter of Little Rock; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Family hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Power House Church of God in Christ, 501 West Plaza St. Helena-West Helena. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the eulogy by Elder Jewel Withers, pastor of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Little Rock.
Services have been entrusted to Stephens Funeral Home, 257 Panama Road in Helena-West Helena.

Mary Watson

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Mary Watson, 77, of Lexington, Miss., will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Pleasant Hill M.B. Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Watson, born Aug. 8, 1931 to Dosie Johnson and Nonnie Harris, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at UAMS in Little Rock. She was a retired owner of Watson Country Grocery Store and was a member of Pleasant Hill M.B. Church.
Her husband Walter Watson Sr., her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.
She leaves a son, Walter Watson Jr., of Little Rock, five daughters, Delores Watson, Edith Caples, Lillie Tubbs of Vicksburg, Miss., Addie Mae Clark of Jackson, Miss., Bessie Watson of Lexington; three sisters, Juanita Patton of Akron, Ohio, Ollie Mae Curtis of Chicago and Berthina King of Port Gibson, Miss.; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Stephens Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena will direct services.

Sylvia Pettigrew-Lee

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Sylvia Pettigrew-Lee, 69, of Little Rock, will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Little Rock. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation and Rosary will be on Sunday, June 14, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at the Gunn Funeral Home Chapel in Little Rock.

Freddie Robinson

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services Freddie Robinson, 81, of Helena-West Helena, will be 2 p.m. today in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove No.1 cemetery. Visitation will be today from noon to 2 p.m. in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
Robinson was born on Jan. 26, 1928 to the late James and Willella Robinson in Helena, Arkansas.
Robinson attended school in Helena, where his aunt Fannie Mills raised him.
He was a sports enthusiast. He loved playing baseball and the Arkansas Razorbacks was his favorite team. He also loved spending quality time with his grandchildren. He was openhearted and open-minded towards people. He will be truly missed but never forgotten. His legend will always last a lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Fannie Mills; a brother, Henry Robinson and son, Norman Robinson.
He died June 6, 2009 in Helena.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his sons, Freddie Robinson of Memphis; Darrylcell Robinson of Chicago; Tyrone Robinson of Topeka, Kansas; Richard Robinson of Wichita, Kansas and Cartilyou Witherspoon of Helena; daughters, Will Ella Owens and Henrietta Moss of Memphis, Roschelle Robinson of Chicago, Rochelle Robinson of Helena, Lashune Boyd of Lawrence, Kansas, Marilyn (Carl) Downing of Wichita, Kansas; Connie Johnson of Helena, Rita Cheffen of Conway, Tekisha Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla. and Raven Robinson of Dermont; 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Brown’s Home for Funerals, Inc. will direct the services.

Bernice Roach

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Bernice Roach, 90, of the Southland-Lexa community was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Her husband, Henry Roach, preceded her in death.
She leaves two sisters, Cosetta Bone and Loretta Crawford, both of St. Louis; a daughter, Deborah Roach of North Chicago, Ill.; three granddaughters, Elvia Overton of North Chicago, Sherry (Steve) Douglas of Lake in the Hills, Ill., Angie (Herbert) Joyner of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
A wake will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. tonight in the Jackson and Highley Funeral Home chapel.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Spring Lake Baptist Church.
Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena will direct services.

Patsy Lynn Haggins

HELENA-WEST HELENA - Funeral services for Patsy Lynn Haggins, 62, of Lexa will be held at 10 a.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Longtown cemetery in Longtown, Miss. Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate.
Haggins, born Jan. 19, 1947 in Panola County, Miss., died Friday, June 12, 2009 at her home. She worked as a radiologist since 1975 at various hospitals, most recently at Forrest City Medical Center.
She leaves her husband, Robert Haggins; her parents; six sons, Michael Harpole and wife, Debbie of Burkburnette, Texas, Allen Harpole of Helena-West Helena, Charles Harpole and wife, Tonna of Maumelle, Robert Haggins Jr. and wife, Juanita, Brandon Scott Haggins and wife, Jada, and Kevin Chadwick Haggins, of Helena-West Helena; a daughter-in-law, Yvette Harpole of Southaven, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Lorrie Workman and husband, Bob of Sledge, Miss.; and two brothers, James "Dickie" Parker and wife, Lynda of Crenshaw, Miss. and Ralph Parker and wife, Carolyn of Clinton, Miss.
Pallbearers will be Michael Harpole, Allen Harpole, Charles Harpole, Robert Haggins Jr., Brandon Scott Haggins and Kevin Chadwick Haggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Harpole, Garrett Harpole, Evan Harpole, Ryan Adam Haggins and Brandon Troy Haggins.
