Ruth Simms Long

Ruth Simms Long, age 92, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born in Summet Grove, Indiana, on September 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Otis A. and Laura A. (Ballard) Simms. Mrs. Long was a former resident of Terre Haute, Indiana, where she was employed as a teacher. She graduated from Indiana State University with a major in home economics, and she was a sorority sister. Mrs. Long had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1972. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and antiquing. She was a member of Questors, the Little Red River Chapter of the DAR, and the Indiana State University Retirement Association. Mrs. Long was an active member of the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, and she was a former member of the Terre Haute Baptist Church. Her husband, Lester Marvin Long, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Jo Grenda of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Patricia Rae Titus of Orangevale, California; two sisters, Elizabeth H. Simms of Fairfield Bay and Ellen T. Hall of Carbondale, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Diana Ross, Robert Michael Grenda, Debbie Ruth Grenda, Jon Patrick Grenda, Brian Titus, Steven Titus, and Scott Titus; eight great-grandchildren, Lindsey Titus, Brittany DeBennediti, Alec DeBennediti, Jason Ross, Randy Ross, Arwen Linnea Handel, Carolyn Grenda, and Tyler Grenda; and one great-great-grandchild, Abagail Marie Ross. Mrs. Long is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. Dr. Wayne Smith and Rev. Ronnie Waycaster will be officiating. Special music will be provided by Kristie Lester. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Percy Robert Burnette

Percy Robert Burnette, age 93, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Alabama on August 19, 1911, he was the son of the late Robert and Helen (Bobo) Burnette. Mr. Burnette was a retired union electrician, and he was a member of the Brotherhood of Electricians. He was also a cattle rancher. Mr. Burnette was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in the military for six years. A resident of Quitman for most of his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Burnette’s religious belief was Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Burnette, who passed away July 11, 1994. Also preceding him in death were two sons, Bobby and Franklin Burnette. He is survived by three sons, Ronnie Burnette of Wisconsin, Richie Burnette of Quitman, and Danny Burnette of Maumelle; two daughters, Sandy Black of Tennessee and Margie Caswell of Texas; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Burnette is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Sunday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Fred Oaks officiating. Joe Oberle, Jeff Handly, Rusty Watson, David Hudson, and Luke Brock will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Eunice Marie Byrd

Eunice Marie Byrd, age 75, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. Born in Ennis, Texas, on July 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Carry (Heptinstall) Cline. A resident of Cleburne County for most of her life, Mrs. Byrd had been a resident of Rose Bud for thirty-four years, and she was a former resident of Heber Springs. She was a factory worker and a homemaker, and she especially enjoyed traveling and her grandchildren. Her religious belief was Assembly of God. Mrs. Byrd had lived a long and useful life which was marked with great devotion and sacrifice for her home and loved ones. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Martin of Searcy. Survivors include her husband, Norman 'Jim' Byrd of Rose Bud; her son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Sylvia Bell of Rose Bud; her daughter, Marie Grubbs of Rose Bud; one brother, Jay Cline of Oklahoma; one sister, Violet Davis of Heber Springs; seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Byrd is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 29, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Vernon Ables officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship cemetery. David Jones, Allen Watkins, Josh Bell, Justin Bell, Jordan Bell, Seth Jones, Michael Parish, and Tyler Bell will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Betty Elizabeth Perry

Betty Elizabeth Perry, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Van Hooks, North Dakota, on March 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Jesse (Hanson) Ryland.Mrs. Perry had lived in Heber Springs for eighteen years and was a former resident of Hot Springs. She was a homemaker and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. Mrs. Perry attended First Baptist Church of Heber Springs. Her husband, William Dale Perry, preceded her in death on April 15, 1997. Mrs. Perry was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Eileen Zieman; and two brothers, Franklin Ryland and Donald Ryland. Survivors include two daughters, Tina Travis of Heber Springs and Glynis Kirsch of Corona, California;one stepdaughter, Merle Ross of Hot Springs; two sisters, Margaret Estvold of New Town, North Dakota, and Lila Fritz of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Ashley Travis, Kelby Travis, Marissa Kirsch, Austin Travis, and Danielle Travis. Mrs. Perry is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Austin Travis, Michael Travis, Dannie Travis, Bob Ross, and Bobby Ross. Kennith Crafton Hazelwood

Kennith Crafton Hazelwood, age 67, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 27, 2005, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Miller, Arkansas, on September 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Guy and Dovie (Rabey) Hazelwood. Kennith was a carpenter. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Mason and a member of the Lone Star Baptist Church. Kennith was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Buddy Hazelwood. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Ruth (Hooten) Hazelwood of Greers Ferry; two sons, Craig Hazelwood and wife, Lanora, of Wilburn and Rufus Hazelwood of Greers Ferry; two daughters, Rhonda Hazelwood of Greers Ferry and Gizelle Smith and husband, Perry, of Edgemont; his brothers and sisters, Other Hazelwood, Adelee Hazelwood, Estel Hazelwood, Guiva Barger, and Frances Baily; seven grandchildren, Jason Lankford, B. J. Kever, Kirk Kever, Kenneth Hazelwood, Annie Burleson, Jessica Hamilton, and Dean Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Shawn Spievy, Chasity Lankford, David Smith, Andrew Smith, and Zachary Hamilton. Kennith is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 28 and 29, at the Olmstead Woodland Chapel in Edgemont. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, at 10:00 A.M. in the Shiloh Cross Roads Church with Bro. Carl LaForce officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. Jason Lankford, B. J. Kever, Kirk Kever, Kenneth Hazelwood, and Dean Smith will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Burleson and Jim Hamilton. Cassie Geneva Wilson

Cassie Geneva Wilson, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 26, 2005. Born in Crossett, Arkansas, on August 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lannie Vander and Verlie Lee (Kellum) Rowe. Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and mother. Her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wilson. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lee and Don Gray of Heber Springs; one brother, Bobby Rowe of Monroe, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Don Marcus and Pamela Sue, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Wilson is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, at 10:00 a.m., in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Ruby Mae Davidson

Ruby Mae Davidson, daughter of the late Leroy and Ethel Sarah (Salters) Heigle, passed away Friday, June 24, 2005. Born at Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas on May 7, 1928, she was 77 years of age. Ruby had lived her life in Cleburne County, Being a mother and a homemaker. Ruby loved her family very much and was a Christian by Faith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rex F. Davidson on August 11, 1983. Survivors are: sons, Ricky Davidson of Camden, Arkansas and Johnny D. Davidson of Conway, Arkansas, daughter, Sarah Hamilton of Heber Springs, Arkansas, brothers, Buck and Isaac Heigle, both of Heber Springs, Arkansas, sisters, Gladys Bittle and Eileen Heigle, both of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, 10 grandchildren, 3 Great grandchildren, other relatives, and many Friends.

Services for Mrs. Davidson will be held Sunday, June 26, 2005 in the Olmstead Chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. John Christopher officiating. Pallbearers will be Marc Davidson, Brian Davidson, Patrick Davidson, Michael Davidson, Jacob Davidson, Jared Davidson, Jubal Davidson and Isaiah Hammilton. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Barbara Dowd Everett

Barbara Dowd Everett, 69, died at her home June 26, 2005 after a battle with cancer. She was born in Greenville, MS, on May 7, 1936, and was reared at her ancestral home in Leland, MS. She was a graduate of Memphis State University, pledged to Alpha Gamma Delta, and received a Masters degree from the University of Alabama. She began a 35-year teaching career at Longwood College in Farmville, VA, and late returned to teach at Memphis State University until her marriage to Gene Everett in 1967. Mrs. Everett retired as a psychometrist for the Public School System of Mississippi, after working for 25 years with Special Education students and the severely handicapped. The Everett family vacationed near Heber Springs, AR, for many years before retiring to Eden Isle. Barbara continued her involvement in church and community in Heber Springs, focusing her efforts on the Cleburne County Christian Health Center and the Cleburne County Republican Women. She headed the Samaritan Purse Christmas Shoe Box project through the First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs for the last few years. She enjoyed a good bridge game and was a member of two local bridge clubs. Her passion was sewing and she loved to create decorative accessories for the home. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene, and one daughter, Holly Everett; one sister, Diana Dowd Davis of Pulaski, TN; two nephews, and first cousin, Susan Wood Sutherland of Greenville, MS. Her parents were Robert and Martha Wood Dowd of Leland, MS. Her grandparents were E. W. Wood and Nona Wood of Leland, MS, and John and Mary Dowd of North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs, AR, at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. A graveside interment service will be held at the family site at the Stoneville cemetery in Stoneville, MS, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 29, 2005. The family will receive friends at the home of Jimmy and Susan Sutherland in Greenville, MS, following the service in Stoneville, MS. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs, AR, or The First Presbyterian Church of Leland, MS. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Oscar Bacot Cutrer

Oscar Bacot Cutrer of Higden, Arkansas passed away on June 22 at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born August 29, 1924 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi the son of the late Oscar B. Cutrer and Lottie Rushing Cutrer. Prior to moving to Arkansas he was owner of Air Flow, Inc. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers and a life long member of the Odd Fellows. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Norma Shedd Cutrer, two daughters and their husbands Ginger and Lyle Sims of Walnut Creek, California and Becki and Arthur Abercrombie of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, three grandchildren Christopher Sims of San Francisco, California, Stewart Abercrombie and his wife Sara of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Jane Runge and her husband Jean-Paul of New York City, New York. Three great grandchildren Darby Sims of San Francisco, California, Will Abercrombie and Claire Abercrombie both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Two sisters Frances Morris of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Mrs. Doris Stringer of Florence, Mississippi and one brother Doyle Cutrer of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Mr. Cutrer spent his retirement years in Higden, Arkansas where he continued to enjoy his love of hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife with the Good Sams RV Travel Club. He was a member of the Holiday Hills United Methodist Church of Greers Ferry where he served as a lay leader and delegate to the North Arkansas Methodist Conference.

A memorial service will be held at Holiday Hills United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM on Saturday, the 25th of June.

Kathryn May Dempsey

Kathryn May Dempsey, Age 90 of Heber Springs, Arkansas passed away June 23, 2005. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 27, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Edwin Salzer and Anna Gertrude (Buermann) Salzer. Mrs. Dempsey was a resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas for 53 years, Searcy, Arkansas for 7 years at Harding Place and the last 2 years with her daughter and son-in-law in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ. She loved visiting people, friends, and family. She was called "The Lady with the Pretty Smile". She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, John Tullus Dempsey, son, John Edwin Dempsey, Brother, Clarence Salzer, grandson, Ryan Tullus Dempsey, and great-grandchild, Caitlin Brianna Dempsey. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Nola Salzer, Las Vegas, NV., son and daughter-in-law, Col. Terry Allen and Patricia Dempsey, San Antonio, TX., daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Eubanks, Heber Springs, AR., four grandchildren, John Phillip Dempsey, Houston, TX., Tavia Runion, San Diego, CA., Kristiana May, Navaree, FL., Stacey Neal, San Antonio, TX., eight great-grandchildren, Suzannah, Molly Elizabeth, Acacia, Josiah, Mitchell, Faith, Megan, and Evan, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Kathryn loved her family and life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enriched the lives of those she touched. She was a gift from God and will be deeply missed.

Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. June 25, 2005 at Olmstead Funeral Home, officiated by her son, Col. Terry Dempsey and Chaplain Larry Davidson. Burial will follow 2:30 PM, June 27, 2005 at Columbia County cemetery, Waldo, Arkansas with Colonel Terry Dempsey officiating. Arrangements are with Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs,

Margie Ritter Goyne

Margie Ritter Goyne, age 50, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 20, 2005, at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Paw Paw, Michigan, on May 5, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Vivian (Hightower) Lackey. Margie grew-up in Wilburn and returned to Cleburne County twelve years ago to live in Tumbling Shoals. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, Terry M. Riley, Jr. of Tumbling Shoals; two brothers, Leon Lackey, Jr. and Cleon Lackey, both of Tumbling Shoals; and two sisters, Pauline Chiodini and Patsy Lackey, both of Heber Springs. Margie is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 24, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Lola Marie Floyd

Lola Marie Floyd, age 62, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 19, 2005. Born in Heber Springs on September 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Alma (White) McGowan. Mrs. Floyd was a mother and homemaker. Her religious belief was non-denominational. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Floyd of Heber Springs; one son, Terry Floyd of Greenbrier; one daughter, Lela Marie Henigan of Benton; one brother, Leonard McGowan of Heber Springs; one sister, Roberta Rodgers of Payson, Arizona; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Floyd is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 20, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in South Cross Roads cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Davis, Bobby Floyd, Aaron Henigan, David McGowan, Rickey Floyd, and Dwain McGowan. Norma Jean McKeever

Norma Jean McKeever, age 67, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs. Born in Ewing, Nebraska, on February 14, 1938, she was the daughter of the late George and Ester (Lieswald) Ruroede.

Mrs. McKeever was a homemaker and mother, and she was a retired employee of Guarantee Mutual Insurance of Omaha, Nebraska (now Jefferson Pilot). She was a graduate of Omaha Business. Mrs. McKeever was a Telephone Pioneers partner of international, state, and local chapters, and she was awarded the Telephone Pioneer (SBC region) Partner of the Year Award in 1994 and was a finalist for the National Award. She enjoyed traveling, including cruises and foreign travel, and she was a member of Arkie Bells Telephone Pioneer Camping Club, Good Sams Camping Club, and SMART (Special Military Active and Retired Travelers). Mrs. McKeever served as assistant treasurer of POA Hidden Valley Ranch Subdivision in south Texas and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, as well as many other organizations. Her hobbies included playing cards and games, working crossword puzzles, sewing, and reading. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at Fairfield Bay.

Survivors include her husband of fifteen years, James W. McKeever of Fairfield Bay; two sons, David Garabrandt and Steven Garabrandt and his wife, Kathie, one daughter, Jone Garabrandt, all of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Gerald Ruroede of Gillette, Wyoming; three sisters, Dorothy Schell of Gillette, Wyoming, Evelyn Peden and her husband, Warren, of Red Bluff, California, and Arlene Engler and her husband, Lavern, of Grand Island, Nebraska; and four grandchildren, Michaela, Matthew, Christopher, and Laura. Mrs. McKeever is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church at Fairfield Bay with Rev. Allen Freudenburg officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park at Omaha, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Knights of Columbus Perpetual Mass Fund with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Fairfield Bay. Marie Frances Harper

Marie Frances Harper, age 93, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 13, 2005, at Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bay. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on January 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late H. C. and Frances (Zajicek) Jensen. Mrs. Harper was a retired department store clerk for Cramers in Cedar Rapids. She had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1972, and she was a member of the Eglantine Church of Christ. Her husband, Earl Harper, preceded her in death on May 6, 1978. She is survived by her cousins, other relatives, and her friends, including Joyce Bradford and Fred Stearns, who were her caregivers in Fairfield Bay.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harper will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. in the Eglantine Church of Christ with Walter Dub Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Eglantine cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Inez Lela Hooten

Inez Lela Hooten, age 70, passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, into the certain world of God. She was born on the faithful morning of October 1, 1934 in Quitman, Arkansas, to Robert Clyde and Lola Mae Swaffar Daves. A devoted wife to both John Edward Reynolds and also to Bennie Hooten, her memories will remain with her loving children: Roselle Neil of Merced, California, John Floyd Reynolds of Heber Springs, Gina Green of White Fish, Montana, Lisa Blair of Orting, Washington, Pamela Welch of Merced, California, and Darla Hooten of Merced, California; one sister, Betty Calhoon of Chino, California, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Hooten was preceded in death by a grandson, Bret Neil. Mrs. Hooten was a graduate of Heber Springs High School, and her religious belief was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired waitress and homemaker who enjoyed watching TV and caring for her children.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 17, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. in her home at 700 West Main Street Apt. #6, Heber Springs. Everyone is welcome to attend. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Sandra Jean Clark

Sandra Jean Clark, age 64, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 4, 2005. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late George Anthony and Bernice Vivian (Brown) Andrews. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Little Rock, Arkansas. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Chuck Garrett and Lori and Greg Kelley, all of Maumelle, Arkansas; one brother, George (Sandy) Andrews of Alpharetta, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Tyler and Trent Kelley and Matthew and Andrew Garrett.Mrs. Clark is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Memorial services will be held Monday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Rodney L. Shanner officiating. Interment will be in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

William Henry "Bill" Bivens

William Henry "Bill" Bivens died on June 5, 2005 in the presence of his family and caregivers at Arkansas Hospice North Little Rock. He was born at home on February 24, 1919, in the Pearson community of Cleburne County, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Quitman High School. He was the eldest son of H. P. and Esther Bivens of Pearson. He retired after over thirty years of employment with Alcoa International in Benton. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton where he belonged to the Pastor's Class Sunday School class. "Gan-Gan" as he was known by his grandchildren, was a much beloved Christian gentleman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his garden, church activities, and spending time with his family. Bill will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 61 years, Jean Bittle Bivens. He is survived by two daughters, Jananne Bivens Reding and her husband, David, of Little Rock and Rebecca Bivens Parke and her husband, Stephen, of Ft. Smith; two sisters, Donice Bivens Bowen of Conway and Charlsie Bivens Gadberry and her husband, Joe, of Bixby, Oklahoma; two brothers, Howard Paul Bivens and his wife, Marlene, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ralph Lane Bivens and his wife, Ginger, of Quitman; four grandchildren, Bradley, Michael, and Jonathan Reding, all of Little Rock and Laura Elizabeth Parke of Coppell, Texas.

A celebration of his life will held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, in the Olmstead Chapel. Interment will be at Pearson cemetery under the direction of Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs. The family will be receiving visitors at Olmstead Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 211 S. Market St., Benton, AR 72015. Arrangements by: Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Shaun Bailey

Shaun Bailey, 48, who had been a resident of Dallas, Texas, for the last twenty-five years passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2005, while vacationing with friends. Shaun succumbed to a massive heart attack as they were deep-sea fishing in the Pacific Ocean. Shaun had a very outgoing personality and always enjoyed being with family and friends. He attended Heber Springs schools for his full twelve years and his college days were at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He always enjoyed returning to Heber Springs to be with family and had recently celebrated Mother’s Day with his mother and attended church with her. Shaun owned and operated Go 2 Graphics in Dallas and always had an interest in Heber Springs. He was preceded in death by his father, Boots Bailey in 1994; his grandparents, John and Mary Ann Birdsong, Luther W. and Lucy Bailey, and special aunt and uncle, Luther and Pearl Birdsong. Those left to mourn his passing are his mother, Elwanda Bailey, and brother and sister-in-law, Shelton and Becky Bailey of Little Rock, as well as many friends.

Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 with visitation with family and friends also at First Baptist Church Welcome Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Arkansas Children’s Home.

Carl Ellis Ross

Carl Ellis Ross, age 90, of Lakewood, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Lakewood, New Mexico, on June 28, 1914, he was the son of the late James Taylor and Charity Frances (Brazeal) Ross. A lifetime resident of Lakewood, New Mexico, Mr. Ross was a retired rancher and a lineman for the Central Valley Electric Co-op. He had lived in Arkansas for the past two years. Mr. Ross was a member of the Church of Christ in Artesia, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Ross and Alton Ross. Survivors include six sons, Ralph Ellis Ross of Hawaii, J. T. Ross of Lakewood, New Mexico, Bill Ross and Ronnie Ross, both of Artesia, New Mexico, and Robert Ross and Gary Ross, both of Searcy, Arkansas; three sisters, Myrtle Heard of Florida, Jewel Hickam of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Bonnie Powell of Hope, New Mexico; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Ross is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 4, at 9:00 a.m. at the Hermosa Drive Church of Christ in Artesia, New Mexico, with funeral services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Woodbine cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130. Local arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. of Heber Springs. Services in New Mexico will be conducted by Terpening & Son Mortuary, Inc. of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Arthur Loren Logan

Mr. Arthur Loren Logan, age 93, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born on November 25, 1911, at Ida, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Pious Macon and Minnie Judith (Towell) Logan. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mr. Logan enjoyed farming, attending church, gospel music, and his family. He was a past member of the Heber Springs School Board and had also taught school. A founding member of the Chastain Chapel General Baptist Church, Mr. Logan served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, and he also played the piano. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Ella (Foust) Logan on June 23, 1984. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Tosh Stair Logan of Tumbling Shoals; one son, Merrill Logan and his wife, Shirley, of Tumbling Shoals; three daughters, Avon Moss and her husband, O. B., of Tumbling Shoals, Loretta Logan Anderson of Rogers, and Ella Faye Westerman and her husband, Charles, of Russellville; one stepson, Troy Raymond Stair and his wife, Karen, of Springdale; one brother, Kendall Logan of Heber Springs; two sisters, Lola Russell and Dorothy Haile, both of Heber Springs; nine grandchildren, Regina Martin, Timothy Logan, Marty Moss, Travis Moss, Kay Anderson, Lea Erby, Mark Anderson, Carisa Hegefeld, and Karie Watson; three step-grandchildren, Brett Stair, Sarah Stair, and Cadi Stair twelve great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Logan, Jonathan Logan, Jeremiah Logan, McKalie Moss, McKade Moss, Tyler Moss, Blakely Luker, Zoey Luker, Logan Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Allison Erby, and Sara Erby; and two step great-grandchildren, Brittany Stair and Julia Stair. Mr. Logan is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chastain Chapel General Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Mote and Rev. Eric Decker officiating.

Interment will follow in Chastain Chapel cemetery. Travis Moss, Marty Moss, Mark Anderson, Ricky Logan, Darrell Logan, Timothy Logan, Marvin Logan, Gerald Lacy, and Brett Stair will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Nathaniel Logan, Jonathan Logan, Jeremiah Logan, Tyler Moss, McKade Moss, and Aaron Anderson.

Memorials may be made to the Chastain Chapel Building Fund. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
