Bobby Bustin
Bobby Sue "Sam" Bustin, 56, of Willilsville, passed away December 6, 2003.
She was born August 24, 1947, in Little Rock.
She was a former employee of Amfuel and a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Waldo.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Vera Knight, three sisters, Patricia Evans, Mary Jackson and Barbara Smelser.
Survivors include, her husband, Donald Bustin of Willisville; daughters, Dora Tucker and husband George of Willisville, Linda Bridges and husband, Kenneth of Prescott, Annette Rogers and husband Jack of Stamps, Kathy Reed and husband Marty of Ashdown, and Karrie Campbell of Willisville; one sister, Betty Fincher of Waldo; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, December 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church in Waldo with Bro. Daniel Williams and Bro. James Lindsey officiating. Burial followed in Union cemetery near Bodcaw.
Family visitation began Sunday at 4 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home in Waldo.
Pallbearers were Anita Pyle, William Pyle, Glenn Hall, Gerry Stephens, Robert Martin, and Bobby Stephens.
Honorary pallbearers were Mac Bridges and Johnny Smelser.

Shirley Crews
Mrs. Shirley Wilson Crews, 67, of Hope, died Friday, December 5, 2003, in Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Tex.
She was born October 25, 1936, in Gurdon, to Joseph Henry and Sarah Mabel Ryan Wilson.
She was a retired registered dietician. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Hope. She was the past president and former secretary of the Hempstead County Republican Women's Committee and also past secretary of the State Republican Women's Committee.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Ryan "Bucky" Wilson and Cecil Wilson, and by one sister, Aline Wilson Kuykendall.
Her survivors include: her husband of 49 years, Richard "Dick" Crews of Hope; two sons, Robert "Bob" Crews and Kevin Dewayne Crews both of Hope; four daughters, Carolyn Schobey of Lake of the Pines, Tex., Lynda Kay Adams of Sioux City, Iowa, Sandra Downs of Hope and Sara Crews of Texarkana, Tex.; two brothers, Billy Joe Wilson of Little Rock and Bobby Wayne Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2003, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Austin Missey officiating. Burial followed in Hart's Chapel cemetery in Curtis. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family received friends Sunday, December 7, 2003, from 2-5 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home.

Thurman Wright
Mr. Thurman Wright, 71, longtime resident of Hope, died Sunday, December 7, 2003, in a Texarkana hospital.
Thurman was born November 39, 1932, in Hempstead County.
He retired as First Lieutenant with the Arkansas Highway Police after 26 years of exemplary service with numerous commendations. He may best be remembered for Wright's Greenhouse, a local nursery. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hope, where he was a deacon since January 26, 1975, and a devoted Christian who loved his church and church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ruby DeVenney Wright, and one sister, Melva Collins.
His survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Betty Jean Bittle Wright of Hope; threes sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Mark and Misty Wright of Texarkana, Brad and Suzie Wright of Springdale and Doyle Wright of Fayetteville; two brothers, Terrell Wright of Odessa, Tex., and Harold Wright of Hope; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Jamie Wright of Austin, Tex., Jackie and Hayden Wright of Texarkana, Trevor Edmondson of Texarkana, Stephanie and Sarah Wright of Springdale and a number of other relatives and many close friends.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hope with Rev. Charles Headrick and Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 9, 2003, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1301 W. Ave. B., Hope, Ark., 71801 or Hospice, 102 West 16th, Hope, Ark. 71801.

Tirsten Elliott
Tristen Nathanal "William" Elliott, six months, of Sheridan, died Friday, December 5, 2003, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
Survivors include his mother, Regina Elliott of Sheridan; his father, Clayton Elliott of Waldo; two brothers, Charles and Clayborn Elliott of Waldo; one sister, Sharah Elliott of Waldo; grandparents, Clayborn and Nancy Elliott of Willisville and Belinda and John Jackson of Waldo and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Monday, December 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Waldo. Bro. Daniel Williams officiated. Burial was in Shiloh cemetery under direction of Lewis Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Clayton Elliot, Clayborn Elliott, Randall Elliott, Michael Elliott, Michael Edwards, Scott Jackson and Brian Franklin.
Memorials may be made to charity of donors choice.

Shortie Carlton
Mr. Shortie Carlton, 81, of Emmet, died Sunday, December 7, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital.
He was born September 7, 1922, in Nevada Co. to Elbert and Exie Faye Barham Carlton.
He was a retired heavy equipment transporter with more than 28 years with the Arkansas State Highway Department and a cattle rancher. He was a member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church, Nevada County, a Navy Veteran and a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Freda Cole Carlton of Emmet; two sons, Jerry Carlton of Hope and Jimmy Allen Carlton of Prescott; two daughters, Carolyn Carlton of Hempstead, Tex. and Judy Carlton Kirk of Prescott; one brother, William "Sonny Boy" Carlton of Midland, Tex.; one sister, Mattie Nell Carlton of Louisiana; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2003, Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope, with Rev. Donnie Dillard and Rev. Ed Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Harmony cemetery in Sutton. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family received friends Wednesday, December 10, 2003, from 5-7 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home.

Elwood DeWoody
Elwood A. DeWoody, 92, of Monroe, La., formerly of Pine Bluff, passed early Friday morning, December 12, 2003, at St. Francis Specialty Hospital.
Elwood was born November 11, 1911, a son of the late John Ashley and Zula May Godley DeWoody in Nevada County.
He was reared and educated in Nevada County. After high school Mr. DeWoody attended Southern State University (previously known as Magnolia A&M;). Woody married Floy Jewel Gentry, on January 23, 1933, in Nevada County. She preceded him in death on August 11, 1997. In 1938, he did experimental farming for the White Feed Mill, in Pine Bluff. In 1941, Woody started working for the Sanderson-Porter Construction Company at Pine Bluff Arsenal. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre, in a destroyer escort aboard the USS Vamon, DE644. After returning to civilian status, he taught returning servicemen in Nevada Schools for three years. He also started working for the Blaw-Knox Construction Co., as a General Superintendent, at the Pine Bluff Arsenal, and in several other states, including Washington.
Elwood was a member of the Pine Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was a member of the Prescott Lodge #80 AF & AM and the Sahara Shrine Temple.
Mr. DeWoody is survived by one daughter, Shirley DeWoody Osborn of Ft. Worth, Tex.; two grandchildren, Kim and her husband Gerald Golden of Monroe, La. and Kelly and his wife Mary Osborn of Ft. Worth, Tex.; four great-grandchildren, Ray and Leia Golden and Joshua and Rachel Osborn; one half brother, Thomas Alsobrook of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two half sisters, Lillian Langston of Searcy, and Pauline Ratcliff of Stamps.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Patty Jane.
Funeral services were Monday, December 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Mount Moriah United Methodist Church in Prescott with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. The family received friends Sunday, December 14, 2003, from 4-6 p.m. at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry Street, Pine Bluff, Ark. Visitation was one hour before the service at the church. Interment was at Mt. Moriah cemetery.

James O'Keefe
James Wortham O'Keefe, died November 22, 2003, at his home in Houston, Tex.
He was born August 21, 1921, in Rosston, to Lemma and James O'Keefe.
He had one sister, Mary Kathryn. His parents and sister preceded him.
Jim's education was interrupted by WWII. He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater in battles from France to Austria, was among the troops sent to relieve those trapped by the Battle of the Bulge, participated in the liberation of Dachau and learned to love opera by guarding the Salzburg Opera House after the battles in Europe ended.
Jim graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in accounting and joined Texas Gas Transmission's accounting staff in Ownesboro, Ken. He came to Houston to help establish Texas Gas exploration, a wholly owned subsidiary, and stayed to serve as treasurer and later financial Vice President of that company. He loved his work. He retired in 1983 and loved his retirement. Jim had the happy facility of always seeing the best in situations and people.
In 1959 this confirmed bachelor surprised himself and those who knew him by marrying Helen Ann Garrett. Their happy marriage was soon enhanced by the arrival of Margaret Helen O'Keefe. Jim was wonderful husband and loving father.
He was an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and of Pine Country Club. Next to home, those were the places he loved best.
Jim was a faithful friend. He was absolutely honest and dependable. You could count on his word.
Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, Helen O'Keefe; his daughter, Margaret O'Keefe; his mother-in-law, Helen Garrett; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Dick Wall; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Memorial services will be delayed by family health and travel concerns and will be held on December 22 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chapelwood Foundation or the Houston Area Parkinson's Society or any charity you love.

Peggy Harmon
Peggy Marie Cummings Harmon, 64 of Prescott died Saturday, December 20, 2003 in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Harmon was born July 3, 1939 in Prescott to Noel Ardis and Jessie Lee Cummings. She was a homemaker and a member of White Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Cherishing her memory are her husband Dale Harmon of Prescott; two daughters, Debbie Marie Pippenger and her husband Billy of Sheridan and Tammy Lee Harmon of Hot Springs; one grandson, Billy Wayne Maness of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Heather and Holly Pippenger of Sheridan; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Pat Cummings of Mesquite, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Steve Wren of Prescott; one nephew, Brandon Wren and wife Lisa of Prescott; two nieces, Lisa White and husband Tim of Mesquite, Texas and Kelley Dice and husband Cory of Hope; three great nieces, Makenna and Makaylee White of Mesquite, Texas and Jade Wren of Prescott; a brother-in-law Jerald harmon and wife Amanda of Hope; her mother-in-law, Flora Harmon of Hope and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23 at 2 p.m. at Midway Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland and Rev. Lloyd Roper officiating. Burial will follow in he Midway cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Thomas Taylor
Thomas Tolliver "Tollie" Taylor, age 88, of Rosston, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Monahans Managed Care Center in Kermit, Texas.
He was born February 3, 1915 in Nevada County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenn Richardson in September 1984, and by two sons, Horace Taylor and D.T. Taylor.
Survivors include, one daughter, Patsy Davis and husband, Bobby of Kermit, TX; one son, Gary Taylor of Rosston; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of North Richland Hill, TX, and Margie Smith of Arkansas; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. Johnnie Carlton officiating with burial in the Union cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
