Bobbie Jean Hubanks
(September 16, 1937 - September 1, 2011)

Bobbie Jean Smith Hubanks, 73, of Arkadelphia, AR, succumbed to cancer on September 1, 2011. She spent her last days in peace in Jacksonville, FL, with family by her side.

A cup of coffee and a butter biscuit was all that was needed to provide her with the care-giving mentality and functionality of an angel. Whether it be her brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, grandchildren, or her dogs, those around her could feel the endless love she provided. Her beauty, will power and compassion were as boundless as the oceans are deep.

She is predeceased by her parents, Vance Smith SR and Ruth Joslin Smith; her husband, Marvin 'Bud' Hubanks; two sons, Jackie Scott and Robert Brown, Jr.; a grandson, Cody Blue Ingle; three brothers, Carl, R.V., and James 'Pete' Smith; three sisters, Darnell Collins, Annie Lee Hickman, and Barbara Marion.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: four children, Lisa (Mark) Kilcrease of Jacksonville, FL, Greg Brown of Arkadelphia, AR, Rochelle Norried of Malvern, AR, Ellen Brown-Collins of Sellers, SC; her step-daughter, Karrie Wansley of Troutville, VA, her step-son, Marvin P. Hubanks of Pine Bluff; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Otts McKaskle, Freddie (J.R.) Otts, Jr., Paige Collins, Danny Collins, Jr., William Collins, Tuesday Collins, Tyler Stringfellow, Courtney Stringfellow, Christen Brown, Shane Brown, Heather Hubanks Terry, and Ciara Wansley; her five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hartwick, Kelly Collins, Troy McKaskle, Trey McKaskle, and Trace Otts; five brothers, Earl, Vance Jr., Freddy, Mickey, and 'Smokey' James Smith; two sisters, Ruth Fulmer and Lois Jean Kinnard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be especially missed by her pets, Daisy and Shelly Rose a/k/a Acorn.

Family and friends will gather from 6-8 pm on Saturday at Welch Funeral Home.

Funeral services in celebration of her life will be held at Third Street Baptist Church, Sunday, September 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM with Chad Cox and Temon Jenkins officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Services entrusted to Welch Funeral Home.

John Clay Harmon
(September 12, 1962 - September 4, 2011)

John Clay Harmon age 48 of Bismarck passed from this life on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his home. He was born September 12, 1962 in Malvern the son of Sherman and Linda Rosewell Harmon. John was a tool and die maker and formerly employed by Scroll Technologies.

He is survived by his parents, his wife Karen Holder Harmon, one step-son Earl Kieselhorst, four step-daughters Haley and Brittany Wood, Noni Downing and Kari May, one sister Tina Harmon, one brother Jerry Harmon, numerous nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements entrusted by Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Jake Godwin
(Died September 14, 2011)

Jake Elisha Godwin, age 72 of Bismarck, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. He was born September 26, 1938 in Prescott, Arkansas the son of the late Elisha and Ressie Hunter Godwin. Jake owned and operated Jake's Starter & Alternator Shop. He was a United States Air Force veteran and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Jake was preceded in death by two sisters Jenny Marie King and Joyce Fore.

He is survived by his wife Anita "Annie" Godwin of the home, one daughter Tara Shepherd of Bismarck, one son Jay Godwin of Bismarck, five grandchildren, Cheyenne Davis, Jenna Keeling, Shawnee Shepherd, Dakota Godwin and Colin Shepherd, one sister, Mattie Parris of Magnet Cove, AR, three brothers Huey Godwin and Wayne Godwin both of Prescott, and William Godwin of Denham Springs, LA.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Innocent Okore officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday at Welch Funeral Home.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Monday at Welch Funeral Home by Deacon Bud Daven.

Private interment will be in Calvary cemetery in Hot Springs.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 North 14th Street, Arkadelphia, AR 71923 or American Cancer Society, 901 North University, Little Rock, AR 72207.

Services are entrusted to Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Celia Graham Acrey
(March 11, 1914 - March 4, 2015)

Celia Graham Acrey age 100 of Arkadelphia, passed from this life Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She was born in White County March 11, 1914 the daughter of Dr. Daniel W. and Addie Smith Graham. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Acrey and one son, Bill Acrey.

Survivors include two sons, Dale Acrey of Curtis, AR and Glen Acrey and his wife Linda of Butlerville, AR, one daughter, Linda Ashford of Benton, ten grandchildren, Debby (Eric) Allen, Becky (Andrew) Ploeger, Peggy (Chuck) Stewart, Vickie Acrey, Jody (Cassandra) Acrey, Margaret (Tony) Chavez, Cash Acrey, Carrie (Nate) Parsons, Chris (Dena) Curtis, and Staci ( Chad) Newell, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Nina Acrey and a sister-in-law Marian Graham of Paradise, CA.

A celebration of Mrs. Acrey’s life will be 3 PM Saturday, March 7th in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2 PM Saturday till service time at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Wallace "Wally" Hubbard
(May 7, 1927 - September 27, 2011)

Wally Hubbard 84 of Wallingford, CT peacefully passed away on September 27, 2011 at his home in Hot Springs Village. He was born in 1927 to Kenneth D. and Grace Bird Hubbard of Wallingford, CT.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, stepdaughter Dr. Tracy Moran of Chicago, IL., his nieces Elizabeth Terenzio of Branford, CT., and Suzanne Hubbard of Clearwater, FL.

Wally and his family were members of The Mayflower Society and he was a graduate of Middlebury College, CT. He worked for Texaco International Services for 33 years.

Cremation arrangements entrusted to Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Danny Franklin
(September 8, 1957 - June 28, 2012)

Danny Franklin age 54 of Arkadelphia died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at his home. He was born September 8, 1957 in Anchorage, AK the son of Doyle Herbert and Anna Lois Morris Franklin of the Shiloh Community. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include one son Derek Franklin and his wife Jill Wieser Franklin, who is expecting the couples first child, of Little Rock, his father Doyle Franklin of Shiloh Community, two brothers, Randy Franklin and his wife Linda of the Shiloh Community, Ricky Franklin and his wife Cathy of Jasper, TX, four nephews, A. J. Franklin and his wife Sarah and son Abram of Little Rock, Zach Franklin and his wife Alicia of Jacksonville, FL, Tyler Franklin of Bryant, and Austin Franklin of Jasper TX, two nieces, Mary Franklin of Jasper, TX and Nova Franklin of the Shiloh Community.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel in Arkadelphia with burial in the South Fork cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the South Fork cemetery C/O Annette Milloway, 2302 Sylvia, Arkadelphia, AR 71923.

Phillip Halstead
(Died May 1, 2015)

Phillip Eugene Halstead age 65 of Bismarck died Friday, May 1st 2015 at his home. He was born December 11, 1949 in Beau Fort, NC the son of John and Aline Halstead. He was a retired project manage for Jacob’s Engineering and a Baptist. His joy in life was his children and grandchildren and playing the guitar.

He is survived by six children, Angie Valentine of New York, Carla Moody of Dallas, Phyllis Norell Halstead also of New York, three step children, Chad Gallagher of De Queen, Katherine Pineda of Conway, Sarah Hammett of Benton, 13 grandchildren, Seth, Cole, Declan, Delany, Hannah, Grace, Ethan, Jude, Katlyn, Brittany, Alexandria, Destiny, and Jada, one brother, Tommy Halstead of Alabama.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, May 4th in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with Chad Gallagher officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, Box 1653, Topeka, Ka 66601-1653.

Edwin Earl Hewitt
(March 3, 1922 - February 26, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
Edwin Earl Hewitt age 89, of Arkadelphia, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Twin Rivers Health& Rehab Center. He was born in Antoine, Arkansas (Pike County) on March 3, 1922 the son of the late Roy and Clyda Owen Hewitt. Edwin graduated from Arkadelphia High School and enlisted in the Seabees Division of the U. S. Navy where he honorably served his country during World War II.

He was a longtime employee of Arkadelphia Beverage Company for well over thirty-four years until it closed and finished out his work career at Fafnir Bearing Company retiring in 1987. Upon retirement, he was very active, whether he was helping a neighbor with a home project or assisting in car repairs. Perhaps his greatest love during retirement was working in his garden and repairing lawn mowers for his neighbors and friends.

Edwin was a charter member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and was deeply involved in its development and growth. Edwin was a devoted family man who loved his family and cherished his many friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Randall Hewitt and one sister, Ruby Cook.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Willard Hewitt; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Charlotte Hewitt of Hermitage, Tennessee; two brothers, Gene Hewitt and wife, Maxine of White Hall, Arkansas, John Hewitt and wife, Agnes of Texarkana; and two grandsons, Scott and Todd Hewitt of Conway, Arkansas.

A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 29th at St. Andrew United Methodist Church with Rev. Travis Langley and Rev. Bob Sanders officiating. Interment with military honors be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Naye Shepherd Hipps
(July 19, 1925 - March 26, 2012)

Naye Shepherd Hipps passed away Monday, March 26th in Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia. Born July 19, 1925 in Dalark, the daughter of Archie Loyd and Lou Ena Donahue Reynolds, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Connie Shepherd, her parents and two brothers Olen and Jewell Reynolds. She was a member of the Dalark Methodist Church and attended services at the Degray Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband Bill Hipps of Degray, daughter Avonne and Bill Petty of Delight, son Bud and Charlotte Shepherd of Arkadelphia, stepdaughter Jo Carol and John Reeder of Arkadelphia, and stepson Kevin Hipps of Conway, sister Gladys Lemons of Sheridan, and brother Carl Reynolds of Dalark. Surviving grandchildren are Mike (Lisa) Petty of Delight, Susan (Keith) Dodson of Dumas, Denise (Stephen) McCoy, Jessie Jo Butler of Arkadelphia, and Blake and Joseph Shepherd of Colorado. Also are great grandchildren Kyle and Kolt Petty, Emily and Anna Dodson, Destiny (Brad) Runyan, Charity Watson, Kelsey McCoy; great-grandson Nathan Runyan, a special nephew Kenneth Reynolds; and a host of extended family and friends.

Naye and her husband Connie Shepherd operated Gables Restaurant in Arkadelphia between 1946 and 1971. They were very active in Arkadelphia. He was an Arkadelphia volunteer fireman for many years and she delivered coffee to the firemen when it was a bad fire. She was made an honorary fireman for this service. After retirement she served as secretary for the Degray Fire Department. A 50 year member of the Arkadelphia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Arkansas, she served as Worthy Matron, and was Deputy Grand Lecturer, along with other duties. Please feel her families heartfelt love and thanks for all of you who extended your love and kindness to Naye. The different parts you all played in her life were so important to us and to her. You have been a blessing. She had many wonderful nurses and staff at Twin Rivers that helped make her life better and more comfortable. Thank you for your expertise and concern.

We invite you to a celebration of her life at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Ruggles - Wilcox Chapel with Robert Langley, Marvin Pate, and David Young officiating. Burial will be in the Delamar cemetery near Manning. Pallbearers – Dusty Thomason, Tommy Medlock, Donald Hatley, John Reeder, Kent Glover and Keith Glover. Mrs. Hipps includes the following as honorary pallbearers: Nickie Thomason, Eddie Graham, Charles Ledbetter, Rick Medlock, Albert Medlock, Jr. Bledsoe, Cecil Smith, Bennie Dodson, Millard Aud, John Cutler, Bud Reeder, Mike French, Bill McCallum, Robert McCallum, and Orville Buck.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to the Delamar cemetery Fund, c/o Donnie Denton, 2228 N. Hwy 7, Sparkman, AR 71743.
