Wanda Ruth Tolbert
(Died April 23, 2014)

Wanda Ruth Tolbert, age 84, of Bismarck, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at her home. She was born on February 21, 1930 in Point Cedar, the daughter of the late William Clarence and Bytha Bertha Bennett Keadle. Wanda worked as a cashier at Schultz Greenhouse and was a member of Philippi Church of Christ in Hot Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Tolbert, her son, David Tolbert, her brothers, Randall & Ray Keadle, and her son-in-law, Richard Thomas.

Wanda is survived by three daughters, Janie (Eddie Hammock) Thomas, Diane (Al) Merfert and Gwen (Johnny) Love, all of Point Cedar, one son, Steve (Michelle) Tolbert of Point Cedar, one brother, Jim Keadle of Hot Springs, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with Ronald Lorntzen officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wanda's grandsons and great grandsons and employees of Schultz Greenhouse in Hot Springs.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of your choice.

Following the services the family will be at 155 Loop 347 in Bismarck.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Lila Thompson
(May 14, 1924 - April 22, 2014)

Lila Sullenburger Thompson, age 89, of Arkadelphia passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation in Arkadelphia. She was born on May 14, 1924 in Gurdon, the daughter of the late Lance and Mildred Sullenburger. Lila graduated from Gurdon High School in 1941 and then enrolled in Henderson State Teachers College. Her education was interrupted by her work as a chemist in the munitions plants at Jacksonville and Camp Robinson during World War II.

Lila returned to Henderson in 1946, finished her degree and married Gaines Thompson. She taught in the Arkadelphia schools from 1949 through 1951. Lila worked in the Clark County Circuit Clerk office for four years while Gaines served as Circuit Clerk. She returned to teaching in 1956 and taught for thirty-one years in the Gurdon Public Schools and was one of the first recipients of the Outstanding Teacher Award. For many years, Lila taught Sunday school classes and was librarian at the Beech Street Baptist Church in Gurdon. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Gaines Thompson, and her brother, Lance Sullenburger, II.

Lila is survived by three children, Bob (Johnnie) Thompson of Arkadelphia, Terri (Ron) Franks of Heber Springs and Ronnie (Mary) Thompson of Arkadelphia, one sister Patt Williams of Malvern, five grandchildren, Todd (Jeanie) Thompson, Scott (Oriana) Thompson, Raley Thompson, Kayla Thompson and Laura (Jason) Hum, seven great grandchildren, nephews, Lance Sullenburger III and Ben Williamson, and niece, Tricia Williamson.

Lila loved her grandchildren, enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Interment will be in Golden cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time.

Memorials may be made to the Clark County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Carolyn Graham, 206 Unity Road, Arkadelphia, AR 71923.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Kate Marie Nix
(February 12, 1924 - January 11, 2013)

Kate Marie Nix age 88 of Sparkman died Friday, January 11, 2013. She was born February 12, 1924 in Hot Spring County the daughter of Earl and Lula Edna Voss Fite. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Tony Nix and one son John Mike Nix.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Bean of Sparkman, three grandchildren, Paul Anthony Bean, Dana Marie Wingard, and John Daniel Bean, four great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, January13th in the Round Hill cemetery with Rev. Jerry Holland officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Saturday at the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Floy Dell Pierce
(July 5, 1934 - April 18, 2014)

Floy Dell (McCaskill) Pierce passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2014.She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, her husband and two sons. She is survived by one sister, Merlene Young of Sparkman, AR, her six surviving children: Letizia and David Bowen of Hot Springs, AR, Jerry Canale and Zeng Wei Xiu of Hot Springs, AR, Carmela Canale of Indianapolis, IN, Dino and Sandra Canale of Gentry, AR, Bobbie Jo Carson and fiancé Robert Watson of Joshua, TX, James and Angela Pierce of Maumelle, AR, her beloved dog Peso, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Floy loved helping family, friends and neighbors. She was a friend and mother to everyone, greeting them with a smile, kind words and a good meal. She adored children and cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She faced her cancer like she faced all of life’s obstacles - with faith and courage and has now gone to her heavenly home. She was and will continue to be a huge part of our lives. We will miss her dearly but we will never forget her.

The celebration of her life will be at Welch Funeral Home at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Mark Adams officiating and burial at Atchley cemetery in Dalark, AR.

Visitation will be at Welch Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday.

The pallbearers will be Paul Caver, Tim Dickey, Ben Dickey, Fred Young, Herman Jones Jr. and Terry Millard.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Diana Holt
September 1, 1941 - April 11, 2014

Diana Elizabeth Holt, age 72, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia. She was born on September 1, 1941 in Haughton, LA, the daughter of the late Vernie Frank and Alice Elizabeth Portter McWilliams. Diana was a member of Third Street Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and painting. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Holt.

Diana is survived by her son, Tony (Amy) Magsby of Gurdon, her daughter, Ramona Magsby and spouse, Teresa Goad, of Sallisaw, OK, two brothers, Tommy Frank (Virginia) McWilliams and Totsy (Linda) McWilliams, all of Haughton, LA, six grandchildren, Tori Bryant, Anthony Magsby, and Tristan, Devon, Hunter and Bethany Haysmer, and four great grandchildren, Olivia Bryant, Aubreigh Ence, Easton Bryant and Bryce Magsby.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Sycamore Baptist Church with Bro. James McCain officiating.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Don Clark
(Died April 6, 2014)

U.S. Veteran
Donald R. Clark, age 72, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his home. He was born in Arkadelphia on June 29, 1941, the son of the late Alvin E. and Lorine Glover Clark. Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed gospel quartet singing and golf.

Don is survived by his wife Pauline Jimenez Clark, two sons, Jerry Wayne (Annette) Clark of Arlington, TX and Paul Bradley Clark of Arkadelphia, one sister, Judy Beth (Elvin) Hutcherson of Arkadelphia, three brothers, John Allen (Karen) Clark of Irving, TX, Wallis Ross Clark of Mena and James David (Karen) Clark of Bismarck and seven grandchildren, Ashley Marie Clark, Amanda Pauline Clark, Amber Elisabeth Clark, Jack Huey, Dustin Huey, Sara Elizabeth Clark and Dakota Paul Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Newsom and Terry LeMay officiating.

Emma McKin
(September 1, 1929 - March 25, 2014)

Emma Jean Hurst McKin, age 84, of Curtis, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia. She was born September 1, 1929 in Arkadelphia, the daughter of the late Jerry and Mamie Herron Hurst. Emma was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar McKin, three sisters, Dorothy McNeil, Mitty Cage and Shirley Taylor, five brothers, L.B., Billy, Clarence, Jerry and Harold Hurst.

Emma is survived by two sons, Charles (Diane) McKin of Gurdon and Dennis (Susie) McKin of Bismarck, two brothers, Robert Hurst of Curtis and James Hurst of Little Rock, two grandchildren, Brian (Aubree) McKin and Nanette (Kevin) Malone, three great-grandchildren, Brady and Lauren Vandiver and McKensey Malone.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 28, 2014 at Welch Funeral Home with Randy Turner officiating.

Interment will be in Shady Grove cemetery at Curtis.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday.

Pallbearers are David Hurst, Rodney Hurst, Brian McKin, Kevin Malone, Brady Vandiver and Dean Jones.

Memorials may be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church, Atten: Tanya Herron, 3389 Central Rd, Gurdon, AR 71743.

Isaac Lee Johnson
(Died March 21, 2014)

Isaac Lee Johnson, infant son of Andy and Holly Harrington Johnson, passed from this life on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Waiting his arrival in heaven were his paternal grandparents Earl and Oneida Johnson, his step-maternal grandfather Tommy Valentine, and his brother, Wyatt Huck Johnson.

Isaac is survived by his loving parents, Andy and Holly Harrington Johnson of Arkadelphia, maternal grandparents, Geraldine Valentine of Bee Branch and Jimmy (Linda) Harrington of Arkadelphia, aunt, Gloria Johnson of Deer, aunt and uncle, Jacob and Jennifer Harrington and their children, Carlee and Emma of Ada, OK.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Colony cemetery, Hwy 92 East, Bee Branch, AR 72013, with Carl Thomason officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Welch Funeral Home .

Memorials may be made to Colony cemetery c/o Ruth Thomason 126 Hwy 356 Bee Branch, AR 72013.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
