Clara Acrey
November 26, 1940 - March 21, 2014

Clara Sue Campbell Acrey, age 73, of Gurdon, passed from this life on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Courtyard Gardens Nursing Center in Arkadelphia. She was born on November 26, 1940 in Gorman, TX, the daughter of the late A. B. and Mary Edith Bennett Campbell. Clara worked as a pharmacy technician at Wal-Mart for twenty years and was a member of CurtisFirstBaptistChurch.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Acrey of Gurdon, three daughters, Peggy (Chuck) Stewart of Hot Springs, Margaret (Tony) Chavez of Planada, CA and Vickie Acrey of Hot Springs, one son, Jody (Cassondra) Acrey of Delight, one sister, Jackie Tacker of Odessa, TX, seven grandchildren, Melissa Suzanne Kelley, Jason Stewart, Jessica Berdak, Marcus Chavez, Taeler Brook Acrey-Trull, Kirstie Acrey and Lacy Watts and two great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Bro. Billy Reed officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers are Eric Allen, Andrew Ploeger, Chad Newell, Jack Woolf, Cash Acrey and Nate Parsons.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Woolf and Glen Acrey.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 904 Autumn Road, Suite 500, Little Rock, AR72211 or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA22311.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Doris Tidwell
(September 24, 1933 - January 25, 2015)

Doris (Plum) Tidwell age 81, of Friendship, entered heaven, Sunday, January 25, 2015. She was born September 24, 1933 to Clifton James and Era May Camp Plum. Doris was a member of Calvary Baptist Church near Malvern.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Tidwell and Carlie Wrinkle; a brother, James Plum; sons-in-law, Dale Harris and Terry McCallister; and a grandson, Michael Harris.

Survivors are two daughters, Michelle Harris of Friendship, Gwen McCallister of Little Rock; six grandsons, Jeremy McCallister, Jesse McCallister, Jeff McCallister, Stan Wells, Dillon Harris and Jonathan Harris; three great-grandsons; a brother, Horace (Jan) Plum of Arkadelphia; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be 12 noon Thursday, January 29th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Services will follow at 1:00 PM Thursday at Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel with Bro. Jim Owens officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Disaster Relief @ Arkansas Baptist State Convention #10 Remington Dr. Little Rock, AR. 72204 or to Gideons International.

Ronald W. Wilkins
(January 1, 1936 - April 23, 2015)

Ronald Wesley Wilkins, 79 of Arkadelphia died Thursday, April 23, 2015 peacefully with his wife (of 58 years) by his side. He was born on January 1, 1936. He was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church. He was a graduate from Conroe High School. He was the owner of Peoples Laundry and Cleaners. He leaves behind his wife Carolyn, son Phillip, 2 daughters Leslie (James) White of Arkadelphia, Dr. Nancy (Roy) Benham of Baton Rouge, LA. 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Mary Beth White, Grace Benham, sister Clarice Small of Conroe, TX and 3 nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Summit (Phil’s camp), 17210 Campbell Rd, Ste. 180-W, Dallas, TX 75252. Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Park Hill Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at Cude cemetery in Willis, Texas on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

Mary Sue Toland
(April 6, 1923 - January 8, 2013)

Mary Sue Toland age 89 of Hope passed away Tuesday at her home. She was born April 6, 1923 in Linden, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Greer Warren. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Toland Sr. and one son, Donnie Toland.

Survivors are three sons, Wilburn (Dick) Toland Jr. and Lonnie Toland both of Hope, Jearol Toland of Benton; two daughters, Donna Daniel and Dorothy Watson both of Hope; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 12th at Golden cemetery near Arkadelphia with Eric Barbaree officiating. Interment will follow in Golden cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Bill Moorman
(December 17, 1929 - August 18, 2011)

Bill Moorman, age 81 of Arkadelphia, died Thursday, August 18, 2011 in Arkadelphia. He was born December 17, 1929, the son of Sam & Vera Thomas Moorman. He served on the Clark County Quorum Court for 28 years, he taught school at Bismarck High School and Gurdon High School where he was boys & girls basketball coach and history teacher. He went on to get his Master's Degree from Henderson and served as guidance counselor at Gurdon High School. He served as Deacon & Elder at the Pine Street Church of Christ for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Katherin Moorman Kelly, Evelyn Moorman Wright, and Eloise Moorman White Grier, one brother Lemuel Moorman.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Duce Moorman, one daughter Melinda Moorman Young and her husband, Blair, three grandchildren J. B., Christine & Jax all of San Antonio, TX., and one sister Dortha Moorman Ligman of Little Rock.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the Arkadelphia Church of Christ with Jim Buie officiating. Burial will be in the Alpine cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Saturday at the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers will be Austin & Roger Wingfield, Jimmy Denton, Bobby Smithson, J. B. & Blair Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Judge Ron Daniell & Clark County Quorum Court and Bill's nephews. Memorials may be made to the Southern Christian Home, Box 649, Morrilton, AR 72210 or 11th & Pine Church of Christ, Arkadelphia.

William Lewis
(May 1, 1931 - March 4, 2012)

Lt Col (Retired) William "Bill" Lewis age 80 of Lockhart, TX died Sunday, March 4, 2012. He was born May 1, 1931 in Miami, FL the son of Guy and Lois Bridges Lewis. He was a retired pilot for the United States Air Force and a member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Nelson Lewis and granddaughter, Ann Carter.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Vanderslice Lewis, two daughters, Stephanie (J, D.) Carter and Laurie Blair all of Odessa, TX, three brothers, Herbert (Ruth) Lewis of Denver NC, Harold (Helen) Lewis of Jacksonville, NC, and Keith (Sara) Lewis of Griffin, GA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hollis Mc Dermott officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem cemetery at Joan, AR. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Oscar Franklin Hearitige
(September 24, 1954 - August 15, 2015)

Oscar Franklin Hearitige, age 60 of Bismarck, died August 15, 2015. He was born September 24, 1954 in Phoenix Arizona, the son of William Oscar and Jessie May Poor Hearitige. He was a dump truck driver for McHenry Excavating. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Ira Hearitige.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Hearitige of Bismarck, two sons, Nathaniel Ray Hearitige of Bismarck and Johnathan Franklin Hearitige of Harrison, two daughters, Miranda Joyce Smith of Bismarck, and Gena Elizabeth Whitworth of Midway, one brother, Melvin Ray Hearitige of Arkadelphia, six sisters, Shirley Ann Marie Ingram of Kettleman City, CA., Jessie Faye Burns of Haskell, Erma Jewel Hearitige, Niana Sue Daniel, Frances Louise Harrell and Joy Elaine Roland all of Arkadelphia, 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 11:00 am till 5:00 at the home of Joyce and Oscar Hearitige.

John Gladden Hall
(July 13, 1933 - August 14, 2015)

John Gladden Hall, aged 82, of Arkadelphia died Friday, August 14.

He was the son of W. N. Hall, former Grant County Judge and, Bernice Trotter Mathews Hall; grandson of John Reed Mathews, former Grant County Judge, Clerk, and Sheriff, and Lucille Trotter Mathews, of Sardis, Mississippi. His lineage included Gilliam Mathews, a Grant County pioneer; James T. Trotter, a Mississippi planter, and Dr. T. L. Boswell, a noted Southern Methodist minister.

A native of Sheridan, he graduated from Sheridan High. As a history major, he earned three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts from Arkansas State Teachers College (University of Central Arkansas) where he was drum major for the marching band, a Master of Arts from The University of Arkansas, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Mississippi, his beloved Ole Miss.

He served in the US Army as a chaplain’s assistant and organist in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.As a Ford Fellow he taught history at Hot Springs High School.

In Fall 1963, he began his 50-year association with Henderson State University. He advanced through the faculty ranks from Instructor to Professor, and retired as Professor Emeritus. President Martin Garrison named him Director of Development and Executive Secretary of the HSU Foundation, the position from which he retired in 2013. After retirement he was an Assistant to the President for Special Projects. He remained an active member of the HSU Foundation Board until March 2015.

In 1974 his book Henderson State University: The Methodist Years was published by the HSU Alumni Association. Proceeds from the sales of the book helped fund several HSU Alumni scholarships. In April 1975, the HSU Board of Trustees recognized him with a special resolution and a commemorative plaque. In 2002 the HSU President’s Concert was dedicated to John.

He was an active United Methodist; he served on the Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee, and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee of Arkadelphia First United Methodist. A loyal member of Arkadelphia Rotary Club, he earned multiple Paul Harris Fellow awards.

Survivors are his wife Julia Oxner Hall of Arkadelphia; daughter LeeAnn Hyde and husband Todd Sanford Hyde, grandchildren Johnny Sanford Hyde and Julia Kay Hyde, all of Park Ridge, Illinois. He had two special nephews, Willie Oxner and family of Brinkley and Michael Oxner and family of Searcy. He leaves several extended family members and a myriad of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 19 at First United Methodist Church, Arkadelphia. Arrangements are under the directions of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Celebration of the Life of John Hall will follow at 3:30 pm at the Captain Henderson House.

In keeping with John’s philanthropic endeavors, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Arkadelphia, or the John and Julia Hall Scholarship Endowment at HSU Foundation, Box 7550. Arkadelphia, AR 71999-0001, or to a charity of your choice.

Helen Ann Clark
June 15, 1925 - March 19, 2014

Helen Ann Clark, age 88, of Prescott, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Prescott Manor. She was born June 15, 1925 in Watertown, NY, the daughter of the late Howard and Agnes Gremillion Call. Helen was a retired insurance adjuster and a member of First Baptist Church of Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clark Sr.

Helen is survived by one daughter, Sharon (John) Seiber of Prescott, one son, Harry Clark Jr. of Elk Ridge, UT, five grandchildren, Jay Seiber, Taylor and Shelby Clark, Vickie Stotts and Michelle Flynn, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, March 23, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Prescott with Bro. Frank Henson officiating.

Final arrangements are entrusted to The Welch Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Virginia Louisa Eversole
(October 9, 1937 - March 9, 2012)

Virginia Louisa Eversole age 74, of Arkadelphia passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Courtyard Gardens in Arkadelphia. She was born October 9, 1937 in Red Star, Arkansas. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a homemaker, loved to crochet, sew and listening to music.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Beula Begley Hoy; step-dad, Roy Herschel Hoy Sr.; father, Sam L. Eversole; sister, Elizabeth Dalton; brother-in-law, Harold Dalton; brothers, Jackie D. Eversole, and Roy H. Hoy Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosanna Spradlin and husband, Larry of Arkadelphia, Regina A. Kitchens and husband, Charlie of Glenwood; two granddaughters, Amanda L. Stell (Troy), and Leona A. Stone; four grandsons, Malven and Steven Kirkpatrick; Scott Kitchens, Wesley Kitchens (Samantha); seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; one sister, Nina L. Hoy Taylor and husband, Tony of Mayetta, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 13th at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
