Marjorie Spears

Marjorie Spears, 83, of Russellville, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Center.

A daughter of the late Robert and Anna Cecelia Winter Guyer, she was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Pine Bluff and was raised in the Hardin Community. She retired from the Dardanelle Hospital after serving for over 11 years as a nurses’ aide.

She was the widow of Ira Richard Spears, and was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Richard Blankenship and Billy Sharp; two sisters, Velma Campbell and Elvie Stokes; and four brothers, Jack, George and Bill Parker and Jessie Goins.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Maureen Bradshaw of Conway; four daughters and sons-in-law, Stella and Clyde Byrd of Dardanelle, Pat and Bill Blankenship of Sheridan, Libby and Blaine Brown of Kalama, Wash., and Kathy and Harry Brownlee of Dardanelle; a brother, Paul Harton of Warren; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will conduct a private graveside memorial service at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2405 East Parkway, Suite 3, Russellville, AR 72802.

Donald Barr

George Donald "Don" Barr, 82, of Russellville, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at his home.

A son of the late Paul H. and Marie Miller Barr, he was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marian Roberts Barr; three daughters, Cindy Morrison and her husband, Thomas, Kathy Barr, and Susan Hunter and her husband, Chris; four grandchildren, Hayley Morrison, Savanna and Bennett Hunter and Courtney Lewis; a sister, Pat Burgett of Punta Gorda, Fla.; his stepmother, Nancy Barr of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Central Presbyterian Church, by Shinn Funeral Service. The Rev. Ken Kalvesmaki will officiate.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to the Russellville Animal Shelter, 3115 South Mobile Avenue, Russellville, AR 72802; or Central Presbyterian Church, 400 West Main Street, Russellville, AR 72801.

Kenneth Roberts

Kenneth Roberts, 80, of Atkins, the son of the late Herbert and Ethel Bowden Roberts, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at his home.

He was a poultry and cattle farmer and attended the Pentecostal church.

He is survived by his wife, Ima Faye Lewallen Roberts of Atkins; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry Roberts of Butner, N.C. and Kenny and Kay Roberts of Atkins; two daughters and son-in-laws, Peggy and Jimmy Britton of Atkins and Sue and Bill Brents of Atkins; six grandchildren, Rebecca Ketchum, Jeff Roberts, James Britton, Shannon Beldin, Tommy Duvall and Jessica Pompey; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Rita Roberts; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys Bunton, Martha and Joe Cochran and Glenna and Warren Cochran.

Funeral services were Saturday at Lemley Chapel and officiated by Rev. C.W. Henderson and Rev. Bud Garrison. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery. Arrangements were by Lemley Funeral Service.

Casket bearers were Tim Duvall, James Britton, Jeff Roberts, Shannon Beldin, Tommy Duvall, Donnie Roberts, Ray Chronister and Shane Kasper.

Mary Willoughby

Mary Floy Willoughby, 85, of Appleton, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.

A daughter of the late Walter E. and Amy Ethel Patterson Andrews, she was born Dec. 3, 1921 in Appleton.

She was the widow of Robert Bennett Willoughby, was a retired cosmetologist and owner of Milady's Beauty Salon, a former member of the B.M.P.W., the Parent Teacher Association, the National and State Bowling Associations and St. John's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Willoughby of Appleton and Garry Willoughby of Ozark; a brother, Clifton Andrews of Russellville; two sisters, Bonnie Jamell of Russellville and Bobbie Joe Curnett of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Foundation, Honor/Memorial Gift Program, Post Office Box 2222, Little Rock, Ar.72203-9984.

Susan Rankin

Susan Jane Rankin, 61, of Russellville, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 24, 1945, at Fayetteville to John L. and Mary Jane Rankin.

She worked at Star Industries and was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church. Susan loved attending church, working with ceramics, playing the organ and crocheting.

Survivors include her parents; a sister, Virginia Rankin Watermeier and a niece, Savannah Leigh Watermeier both of New Orleans, La.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at the Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville, officiated by the Rev. Ken Kalvesmaki. Burial will be private in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Visitation will be immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church, Church Building Fund, 400 West Main Street, Russellville, Ar. 72801 and Friendship Community Care, 828 North Greenwich Ave., Russellville, Ar. 72801.

Michael Andrews

Michael O'Neal Andrews, 46, of London, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at London.

He was born March 18, 1960, at Danville, to Doyle Dean and Alice Faye Huffman Andrews.

He was a concrete finisher and enjoyed fishing and barbequing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael D. Andrews of Cedarville and Nathan and Amanda Andrews of Russellville; a daughter, Amy Willis of London; a brother, James McCurry of Pottsville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Diana and Tim Branch of Russellville and Mary Andrews James of London; four grandchildren, including Dillon Meadows, Hailee and Alivia Andrews; four nieces; and a nephew.

There was a family conducted memorial service on Sunday at the home of Mr. Andrews' sister, Mary Andrews James in London.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Johnson, Bruce Melton, and David James.

Memorials may be made to the Pope County Home Health; 1509 East Main Street, Suite 4; Russellville, Ar. 72801.

Arrangements were by Shinn Funeral Service.

Jack Calhoun

Jack Calhoun, 76, of Atkins died Friday at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. Arrangements will be announced by Lemley Funeral Service.

Bobby Dann II

Bobby Dann II, 17, of Atkins died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.

He was born Aug. 13, 1983 in Visalia, Calif. He was a student at Atkins High School, a member of the Atkins First Assembly of God Church and a member of the Atkins High School football and track teams.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Bob and Stacey Dann of Atkins; his mother, Tammy Owen of Russellville; a brother, James Dann of Russellville; a sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Tony Comstock of Russellville; two step-brothers, Brandon and Dyllan Crow of Pottsville; grandparents, Larry and Luetta Dann of Tipton, Calif.; a niece, a nephew and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Atkins First Assembly of God with the Rev. Kenny Hibbard officiating. Burial was in the Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Brandon Wilson, Josh Tyson, Waymond McDaniel, Robert Brooks, Dustin Bell and Jeremy Bell, Michael Jones, and Chad Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the AHS Coaching Staff.

Memorials can be made to the Bobby Dann II Scholarship Fund, c/o First Arkansas Valley Bank or Bank of Dardanelle (Atkins Branch).

Ortha Kendrick

Ortha (Teeter) Kendrick, 94, of Russellville, received her ultimate promotion, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Morrilton.

The daughter of James and Ada Judkins Teeter, she was born Jan. 30, 1912 on Crow Mountain. She was a homemaker and later employed by the Atkins Pickle Plant and Van Atkins Department Store, where she was in charge of alterations. She was a charter member of Welcome Hill Assembly of God Church on Crow Mountain. She was also a member of the Russellville First Assembly of God Church and an active member of the Women's Ministries where she enjoyed quilting with the ladies of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Kendrick and also by her parents; four brothers, Burl Teeter, Earl Teeter, Carl Teeter and Archie Teeter; two sisters, Ava Rogerson Roberts and Iva Bowden Bowen.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lila Kay Jones and husband, Carroll, of Russellville; two grandsons, Keith Jones and wife, Eva', of Russellville, Dustin Jones of Arlington, Va.; two great grandchildren, Alex Kendrick Jones and Kaley Nicole Jones both of Russellville; two brothers, T.N. Teeter and Ben Teeter both of Russellville and several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Funeral services were Saturday at Russellville First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Earl Roy Teeter and Rev. Keith Underhill officiating. Burial was at Bowden Cemetery on Crow Mountain by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Carol Graham

Carol Lynn Graham, 55 of Russellville departed this life Friday Jan. 19, 2007 at her residence.

She was born Nov. 26, 1951 to Amanda Marie Venable Payne and the late Eddie Payne in Atkins.

Carol lived life and lived it to its fullest till the end. Her family was her pride and joy. In the 1980's, she was a nurse at the Russellville Nursing Home.

Carol was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Danny Payne, Eddie Payne, James (Jimmy) Payne and one daughter, Carrie Turnbough.

Carol's survivors include her two children, Jimmy Wayne Turnbough and Amanda Martin both of Russellville; her mother, Amanda Marie Payne of Russellville; a brother, Larry Payne of Little Rock; one sister, Debbie Covey of Bosworth, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Kim, Kaylee, Phillip, Jimmy Don, Joseph and Santana Turnbough, Eddie Harris and Daniel Martin; one great-granddaughter, Lynnzaylee Allen.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 24 at Oakland Heights Assembly Of God Church in Russellville. Interment St. Joe Cemetery in Atkins.

Jimmy Alred

Jimmy L. Alred, 53, of Dardanelle died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, in Russellville.

He was born in Little Rock, the son of Hugh Nolan and Erma Lee Seales Alred.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by two daughters, Tonya Mosley of Hector and Tammy Alred of Dardanelle; a son, Jimmy Alred of Little Rock; a brother, William Alred of Greenbrier; three sisters, Shirley Miller of Mabelvale, Billie Jean Pate of North Little Rock and Alice McCoy of Dardanelle; five grandchildren, Blake Alred, Tyler Kemp, Cody Kemp, Zechariah Mosley, and Skyler Collins.

Graveside services and burial were Friday at the Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.

Leone Beavers

Leone Lavergne Beavers, 87, a resident of the Atkins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Atkins, formerly of Appleton, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at the center.

She was born April 8, 1919, in Van Buren County to William Wesley and Minnie "Leaner" Henderson Reynolds. She attended the Welcome Home Free Will Baptist Church at Hector and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olan Beavers; a grandson, Tommy Lynn Beavers Jr.; a great grandson, Justin Garrett Beavers; two brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carole Beavers of Hector and Tom and Pam Beavers of Northlake, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nelda Curtis Fastenau and Stanley of Willard, Mo.; a sister, Lear Maxine Dean of Appleton; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Mt. Vernon Free Will Baptist Church north of Atkins with the Rev. Randell Williams and the Rev. Jamie Burris officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Jerusalem under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Active pallbearers were Mrs. Beavers' grandsons, Jim Guerrieri, Johnny, Chris, Brian, and Eric Beavers, and a great grandson, Kyle Guerrieri.

James Murphy

James Daniel Murphy, 72, of Russellville, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

The son of William and Annis Marlar Murphy, he was born March 30, 1934 in Lauderdell County, Ala. He was a retired United States Army Veteran of Vietnam. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 831, retired gun dealer, Humane Society, DAV Chapter AR27.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Murphy Cole of South Carolina and Liza Murphy Gerot of Conway; and three grandchildren, Caleb Cole, Ianna Cole and Victoria Gerot.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday at Humphrey Chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Gerald Lusk

Gerald T. Lusk, 81, a resident of Dover, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Oklahoma to Benjamin Harrison and Clara Mae Stephen Lusk.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was a life member of the V. F. W. Rogers-Rye Post 2283 and the Cooties. He was a farmer and a hard worker. He loved dancing and could be found with his wife every Saturday night at the V. F. W. dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie Lusk; two brothers, Troy and Jerry Lusk; and two sisters, Betty Talent and Dora Woodfin.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eunice Lusk of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Willene Lusk of Dover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and David Hiner of Durango, Co., Janice Sims of Cordyon, Ind., and Chyral and Robert Sims of London; two brothers, Robert and Earl Lusk, both of Hector; two sisters, Floy Baxter of Dover and Francis Thompson of Hector; eight grandchildren, Christine Hiner, Valery Passmore, Alex Kindell, Angelia Paylor, David Lusk, Larry Collins, Nicholle Sims, and Roxie Sims; six great-grandchildren, Karissa and Andrew Passmore, Caden Kindell, and Talia Paylor; and other relatives and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date on Mr. Lusk’s beloved farm.

Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Glenna Scott

Glenna Jo Scott, 66, of Dover, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

The daughter of Charles Joe and Irene Williams Elliott, she was born Jan. 7, 1941 in Russellville.

She was the Valedictorian of the 1958 Dover High School graduating class. She retired after 23 years with K-Mart. She assisted in opening the Russellville Store as their personnel manager. She also held various other managerial positions. She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, James A. Scott.

She is survived by her husband, Doyle Cobb of Dover; two sons, Allen Scott of Bryant and Richard Cobb of Pennsacola, Fla.; two daughters, Roberta Jo Burghardt of Colorado Springs, Co. and Jana Reidy of Palm Harbor, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Andrew Scott and Jonathan Scott of Bryant, Amber Burghardt and Billy Burghardt of Colorado Springs, Co., Megan Reidy Ferrar of Tampa, Fla., Phillip Michael Cobb and Sara E. Cobb of Pennsacola, Fla.; a great grandson, Nathaniel Burghardt of Colorado Springs, Co.; six brothers and sisters, Mary Nell Cotton of Marshall, Nadine Ramsey of Clarksville, Thelma Irene Buky of Virginia Beach, Va., Suzie Wetzel of Dover, Charlene Wyatt of Sherwood and Charles Leonard "Bill" Elliott of Clarksville.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 at All Saints Episcopal Church. The Reverend Evelyn Hornaday will officiate. Burial will be at Linker Mountain Cemetery at Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Joyce Phillips

Joyce Phillips, 78, of Russellville, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

The daughter of Jack and Opal Inez Norwood Haynes, she was born June 15, 1928 in Britton, Okla. She retired from Con Agra Foods and was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, and a brother.

She is survived by her adopted son, Ronnie Wells of Billings, Mo.; one grandson, Ronnie Wells, II of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Linda JoAnn Espinoza and Raymond of Lemoore, Calif.; eight nephews and an aunt, Iva Wilson of Thomas, Okla.

There is no memorial service planned. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Fred Garrigus

Fred Bewley Garrigus, 85, passed away on Jan. 1, 2008, in Tulsa, Okla., after a brief illness.

Fred was born on Nov. 6, 1922, to Jake and Abbie Garrigus in Hector.

He graduated from Hector Public Schools in 1943, where he played basketball for the high school team. Fred married Mildred Davis Garrigus in 1941, and the couple had three children. Fred and Milderd moved to Oklahoma in 1951, where Fred opened his own business, G & S Aviation Service, with his business partner, Earl Sowards. In 1984 Fred took a job as airport manager at Tulsa Downtown Airpark, where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Fred and Milderd had a second home in Hector, where they enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Fred was deeply loved by his family and will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; ten siblings; and one grandson, Brian Becton.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Davis Garrigus; daughters, Carolyn Garrigus Becton and husband, O.M., and Patti Garrigus Myres and husband, Frank; son, Terry Fred Garrigus and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Bret Becton, Kristi Hinesley, Brandon Myres, and Matthew Myres; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 5, 2008, at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Pauline Fryer

Pauline Davidson Fryer, 84, of Russellville, died peacefully Monday morning, Jan. 29, 2007, at her home with her family and loved ones by her side.

She was born the youngest of four children on July 12, 1922 in Russellville to Joseph and Johnnie Davidson. A 1940 graduate of Russellville High School, Pauline, or "Pot,"as all her many friends called her, was a lifelong resident of Russellville and member of the Russellville First United Methodist Church.

She was a longtime bridge enthusiast and teacher, having attained the ultimate ranking of senior life master from the American Contract Bridge League. She toured the United States for several years participating in bridge competitions. Many local bridge players learned the game under her tutelage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joe Davidson Jr. and David B. Davidson; and a sister, Catherine Davenport.

She is survived by her husband, George Ed Fryer of Russellville; two sons, George Ed Fryer Jr. of New York City, NY and Steve Fryer of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren, Anthony Fryer of Denver, Co., Lynn Zook of Denver Co., Benjamin Fryer of Atlanta, Ga., Casey Fryer of Baltimore, Md. and Stephanie Fryer of Santa Monica, Calif.; four great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Mackey Yokem. Burial private. Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the memorial service.
