Ronald Hopkins
Ronald Dean Hopkins, 51, of Van Buren died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2003, at his home. He attended Van Buren First Assembly of God Church and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was retired from Gerber Products and raced in the IMCA modified class at local speedways.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Hopkins; one daughter, Demi Hopkins of the home; one stepdaughter, Jada Moses of the home; two sons, Ronald Hopkins Jr. and Billy Hopkins, both of Oklahoma; one sister, Linda Phillips of Fort Smith; one brother, Paul Pollock of Fort Smith; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Dripping Springs Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gerber employees.

Lloyd Pinnell
Lloyd Stanton Pinnell, 85, of Russellville died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, in Russellville. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School with the Class of 1937. The former resident of Cashmere, Wash., was a retired bivocational minister and widower of Ella Cleo Pinnell.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda S. Middleton of Russellville, Charlotte A. Cope of Cashmere and Judy Pittman of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Ralph Stanton Pinnell of Rosharon, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 20 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.

Mary Coats
Mary Sue Coats, 75, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a former deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Alma, a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Gamma Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women and taught school for 36 years.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; two daughters, Suanne Morgan of Huntsville and Jane Coats of Fayetteville; two sons, John and Earl Coats III, both of Fort Smith; a sister, Sarah Nelle Colburn of North Little Rock; a brother James Miles Taylor of North Little Rock; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 20 at Alma Presbyterian Church with burial at Srygley Cemetery in Johnson County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Travis Parker, Patrick, Zach and Jason Coats, Nick Oliver, Dale Basham and Wes Kemp.

Martha Campbell
Martha L. Campbell, 85, of Barling died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a retired secretary with the Fort Smith Public School System serving Sutton Elementary, Darby Junior High and Chaffin Junior High. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith and the RSVP.
She is survived by two daughters, Gay Fisher of Van Buren and Jan Bone of Atlanta; a son, Howard W. Campbell Jr. of Barling; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 17 at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Dick James, Bill George, Wayne King, Carl Smith, Bob Allen and Charlie Fitting.

Glynda Peters
Glynda “Jim” Peters, 77, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her home. She was a member of Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, former employee of Dixie Cup and native of the Fern Community.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Eugene Peters; one daughter, Donna Faehling of Mountainburg; one son, Phil Peters of Louisville, Ky.; five sisters, Hazel Balazic of Montana, Thelma Balazic of Alma, Ola Whitlock of Fort Smith, Mary Lou Satterfield of Winslow and Emma Rogers of Mountainburg; one brother, Zane Turner of Mountainburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Conley Cemetery at Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Dwayne and Kelly Rogers, Mike and Dale Balazic, John Satterfield, Roy Gene Cochran, Brett Peters and Todd Marshall. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Sunday School Class of the Mountainburg Presbyterian Church.

Clyde Hoyle
Clyde “Pep” Hoyle, 84, of Mulberry died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home. He was born in Mulberry, an Army veteran of World War II, a former employee of DeSoto Furniture and a member of Mulberry First Assembly of God.
He is survived by his wife, Alma; two daughters, Mary Louise Millsap of Lawton, Okla., and Eva Millsap of Mulberry; a son, David Hoyle of Mulberry; three sisters, Phyllis Stotts of Arlington, Texas, Inez Allen of Alma and Mixine Conway of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Mulberry First Assembly of God with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Mike, Doug and Jeff Millsap, Wanda Teel, Dana Higdon, Greg and Chris Hoyle. Honorary pallbearers were James Hawkins, Butch Lorimore, Bill Davis, Kenneth Medlock, Travis Williams and Ronnie Millsap.

Don Moore
Don C. Moore, 67, of Alma died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002. He was the retired owner and operator of Alma Truck Service and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Meadors of Fort Smith and Debbie Moore of Miller, Mo.; two stepdaughters; two sons, Donald Moore of Alma and Allen Moore of Mountainburg; his mother, Dema Moore of Fort Smith; a sister, Sharon Brown of Fort Smith; three brothers, Kenneth of Lavaca, Lee Moore of Hot Springs and Mike Moore of Tulsa; and numerous grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 8 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Baxley Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Wayne Moore, Al Brown, Joey Shipp, Junior Shipp, Bill Holt and Ron Moore.

Beulah Parmenter
Beulah Parmenter, 88, of Van Buren died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and attended Dora Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Parmenter.
Survivors include a sister, Myrtle Parmenter of Van Buren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Ray Parmenter, Sambo Parmenter, David Belcher, Dwight Selman, Billy Huff and Robert Lee Parmenter.

Thelma Smith
Thelma Whitson Smith, 86, of Van Buren died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She held offices in the women circles where she received a “Life-Time” pin. She was a member of the choir. She also organized all the kitchen duties for the dinners at church, Lions Club and the Rotary Club. She was in charge of fair booths and quilting bees. Her hobbies were canning, cooking and doing arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Uriah Smith.
Survivors include a sister, Mae Moran of Mena; two sons, Clarence Uriah Smith Sr. and Dennis Troy Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Velma Mae Campbell of Largo, Fla., and Ulene Fay Dyer of Van Buren; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage United Methodist Church Youth Department.

Maudie Clark
Maudie Mae McCormick Clark, 75, of Van Buren died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and member of the Block Holiness Church in Van Buren.
Survivors include three daughters, Elga Goff, Betty Hefley and Nora Clark, all of Van Buren; two sons, Charles McCormick of Van Buren and Edmond Jones of Alma; three sisters, Emma Mooney of Carthage, Miss., Florence Chandler of Dyer and Pat Brumley of Mountainburg; two brothers, Carl Edgar and Lonzo Edgar, both of Dyer; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Bill Hefley, Roger Chandler, Dale Worthey, Douglas Cook, Timothy McCormick, Joey McCormick, John Goff, Jason Cook and Scottie Cook.

Mary Smart
Mary Bracy Smart, 94, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002. She was a retired writer.
Survivors include one son, David Smart of Van Buren.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Viewing will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Ruth Loyd
Ruth Loyd, 96, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and a retired teacher for the Van Buren school district. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Loyd.
Survivors include, two nieces, Lynne Rotert of Van Buren and Pam Naaman of Houston; one nephew, Brad Blackwood of Corpus Christi, Texas; four great nephews, Brad Rotert of Van Buren, Scott Rotert of Fort Smith, Brian Blackwood of The Plains, Ohio, and Michael Naaman of Houston, Texas.
Graveside service was held Jan. 9 at Gracelawn Arbor under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage United Methodist Church, 1604 Pointer Trail, Van Buren, AR 72956 or to the Van Buren High School Library, 2221 Pointer Trail, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Tressie Marchbanks
Tressie Marie Marchbanks, 80, of Van Buren died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at Rena, Trusty, Sutton and Wood Elementary schools. She taught for 46 and one half years. She received degrees from John Brown University, University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, the Massard Baptist Church, the National Education Association, the Arkansas Education Association, Classroom Teachers Association and won many local and national awards for teaching economics.
Survivors include her husband, Othel; one son, Ed J. Mullens of Van Buren; one stepson, Ricky Lee Marchbanks of Carthage, Mo.; one granddaughter, Shawn Cozzens of Jacksonville; two grandsons, Shane Mullens of Van Buren and Billy Mullens of Oregon; and one great-grandson, Ethan Cozzens of Jacksonville.
Funeral service was held Jan. 5 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was held at Sarah Grove Cemetery near Cedarville under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Seigal Rogers, Roy Mussett, John Hawkins, Bill Freeman, Jim Hale, Darrall Sparkman and Bob Harp.

Howard McCabe
Howard McCabe, 87, of Mountainburg died Jan. 3, 2001. He was a member of the Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, a retired employee of Whirlpool Corporation, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 332, Amrita Grotto Scottish Rites and a 33rd degree mason.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Rowena; one daughter, Sue Frey of Fort Smith; one son, Jim McCabe of Mountainburg; four grandchildren, Rick Frey, Alan Frey, Jimmy McCabe and Curtis McCabe; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 7 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Masonic graveside service was at Pope Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Rick Frey, Alan Frey, Jim McCabe, Roy Adams, Bill Barker and Art Richmond.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Mountainburg Presbyterian Mens Breakfast group.

Clarence Betterton
Clarence Edwin Betterton of Junction City, Ore., died Dec. 9 of age-related causes. He was 82.
Betterton was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Van Buren to Roy and Rachel Brasuell Betterton. He married Pauline Hyde in Fort Smith on May 10, 1939.
He and his wife moved in 1939 to the Junction City/Harrisburg area, were they worked as farmers. Betterton enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the King’s Grace Fellowship in Junction City.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Daisy Johnson of Junction City, Bernice Easler of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patricia Stevenson of Milwaukie, Ore.; three sisters, Mildred Larson of California, Pauline Miller of Harrisburg and Lela Mundy of Madras; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 14 at Rest-Haven Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Eugene. Burial was held at Rest-Haven Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Junction City Fire Department or the American Diabetes Association.

Betty Bowles
Betty Jean Bowles, 66, of Ozark died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a member of Jethro Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her sister, Rachel Cooke of Ozark; three brothers, Joe Bowles, Harlan Bowles and Robert Bowles, all of Ozark; one aunt, Helen Rucker of Ozark and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Jan. 2 at Jethro Pentecostal Church. Burial was held at Oak Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were James Bowles, Joey Bowles, Robert Cooke, Herman Murphy, Charles Murphy and Jerry House.

Etta Karr
Etta Jane Karr, 76, of Fort Smith died Friday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Karr; two daughters, Beverly Ann Shipley of Mulberry and Brenda Joyce McGehee of Fresno, Calif.; two sons, Ralph Karr of Tampa, Fla., and Johnny Ray Karr of Crystal Rivers, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan 2. at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial was held at Leard Cemetery under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Shipley, Mike McGehee and Gary Goforth and Jeremy Goforth.
