Berta McNeely

February 2, 1942 - June 26, 2003

DETROIT -- Berta "Doll" F. Graves McNeely, 61, of Detroit, formerly of Pine Bluff, died June 26, 2003, at Sinai-Grace Hospital at Detroit.

She was born February 2, 1942, at Sherrill, Arkansas, a daughter of Georgia Hicks of Pine Bluff and the late Thomas Graves.

She received her education at Townsend Park High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by one sister, F. Deloris Reed.

Other survivors include her husband of 37 years, Walter McNeely; one daughter, Mae C. Rogers of Detroit; two sisters, Ruby Ravion of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Flora Johnson of Atlanta; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Swanson Funeral Home at Detroit with the Rev. James R. Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Detroit Memorial Park East Cemetery.

Chester L. Brown, 75, of Pine Bluff, died June 30, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Christian Way Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Gerline Canada of Pine Bluff died June 30, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Christian Way Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

James Mitchell, 53, of Pine Bluff, died June 30, 2003, at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Deverett E. Brumley

Deverett E. Brumley, 80, of Benton, died February 5, 2001, at his home.

Born January 27, 1920, at Daughtry, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Henry and Grace Mae Brumley.

He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a golf pro at Rosswood County Club for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Brumley; two sons, John D. Brumley of Texas, and David Brumley of Benton; a daughter, Diane Mattison of Benton; a sister, Erma Lea Doby of Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. Local information was provided by Ashby Funeral Home of Benton.

Lena Young

Lena Young, 76, of Pine Bluff, died August 9, 2001, at Davis Life Care Center.

Born November 17, 1924, in the Noble Lake community, she was a daughter of the late Clifton Young and Flora Young.

She was a member of Barnett Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Young of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Author L. Young of Chicago, and Sylvester Young of Star City; a sister, Lessie V. Young of Chicago; and a grandson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will be in P.K. Miller Cemetery by Perry Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at 5109 Faucett Road.

Josephine Dockett

Josephine Dockett, 67, of 3304 West 10th Avenue, died November 20, 2001, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born February 25, 1934, at White Plains, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Frank Collins and Carrie Mayweather Collins.

She joined Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1957, was a choir member and deaconess. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Benn; a daughter, Ruby Jewel Dockett; and a brother, Jessie Collins.

Survivors include her husband, Curlee Dockett Sr., whom she married May 30, 1957; six sons, Robert Benn Sr., Curlee Dockett Jr., Christopher Dockett, Frank Dockett and Nathan Dockett Sr., all of Pine Bluff, and Michael Dockett of San Antonio; three daughters, Teresa Dockett and Dorothy Thomas, both of Pine Bluff, and Wilma McLeod of San Diego; three sisters, Laura Dunn, Leila Webb and Lola Webb, all of Atlanta; 38 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Valliant Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery at Sherrill by Henson Mortuary.

Visitation will be from 8 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.

The family will be at 3304 West 10th Avenue.

Mildred Walker Pierce

Mildred Walker Pierce, 84, of Pine Bluff, died April 23, 2001, at her home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral directors.

Margaret Bobo Singer

LITTLE ROCK - Margaret Bobo Singer, 81, of Little Rock, died August 14, 2001, at St. Vincent Infirmary Hospital at Little Rock.

She was born in Pine Bluff.

She graduated as valedictorian from Watson Chapel High School. She was also a graduate of Judkins Business College at Pine Bluff. She contracted polio at age 5.

In 1941, she moved to Washington, where she worked for the federal government returning in 1943 to Pine Bluff, where she worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. She married in 1949 and moved to Aurora, Illinois, until retirement when she and her husband relocated to Fairfield Bay in 1977.

She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church at Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Singer in 1990 and two sons, Lewis David Singer, who died in 2000, and Larry Eugene Singer, who died at age 5.

Survivors include one sister, Anne Bobo Vinson of Little Rock; and four grandchildren.

There will be a private graveside service today at Olmstead Cemetery at Fairfield Bay, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. today at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Nolley officiating. Funeral arrangements will be by Ruebel Funeral Home at Little Rock.

Visitation will be after services at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund.

Herbert Johnson

Herbert Johnson, 69, of 301 Persimmon Street, died November 21, 2001, at his home.

Born September 3, 1932, at West Point, Georgia, he was a son of the late Dan Johnson and Artie Mae Hatchett Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Marquita Howard of Pine Bluff; three brothers, Norris Johnson of Chicago, Henderson Johnson of Homewood, Illinois, and Lawrence Johnson of La Grange, Georgia; six sisters, Thelma Flowers of Richton Park, Illinois, Obie Robinson of Chicago, Ruby Hubbard and Gertrude Simpson, both of La Grange, Helen Washington of Detroit and Myrtis Williams of Jonesboro, Georgia; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Town Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvell Williams officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens by Henson Mortuary.

The family will be at 301 Persimmon Street.

Haisten Thomas Tucker

Haisten Thomas Tucker, 72, of Lonsdale, (Garland County), died February 4, 2001, at his home.

Born July 24, 1928, at Spring Hill (Hempstead County), he was a son of the late Coy Tucker and Freda Tucker.

For most of his life he lived at Little Rock. He was a Baptist. He was an automobile mechanic at Bale Chevrolet.

Survivors include six sons, John Tucker of Little Rock, Jimmy Tucker of Lonsdale, Larry Tucker of Oklahoma, Glenn Tucker of Atlanta, Mike Tucker of Texas, and Mark Tucker of California; a daughter, Mary Ellen Tucker of Florida; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Springs Cemetery at Coleman (Drew County) with the Rev. Steven Tiner officiating. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home at Dumas.

Charles Ellingburg Sr.

McGEHEE - Charles Ellingburg Sr., 60, of McGehee, died August 11, 2001, at his home.

Born April 8, 1941, at Paris (Logan County), he was a son of the late Eddie Ellingburg Sr. and Willie Bell Logan Ellingburg.

He was a member of McGehee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He worked for the Arkansas Highway Department at McGehee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Helen McCormick Ellingburg.

Survivors include one son, Charles Ellingburg Jr. of Bastrop, Louisiana; five daughters, Jacqueline Briscoe of McGehee, Shirley Ellingburg of Pine Bluff, Carolyn D. Perry of Kent, Washington, Wilma Sanders and Keya Warfield , both of Houston; six brothers, Edmond Ellingburg, Holsey Ellingburg, David Ellingburg, Leonard Ellingburg and Eddie Ellingburg, all of Paris, and Robert P. Ellingburg of Kansas City, Missouri; four sisters, Audrey Edwards of Grandview, Missouri, Lois Leapheart of Kansas City, Kansas, Janice Orr and Mary Wise, both of Paris; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McGehee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at McGehee with the Rev. Larry Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Beasley Cemetery at McGehee by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The body will be at the church from noon until service time on Friday.
