Margarett E. 'Jean' Smith
Mrs. Margarett E. 'Jean' Smith, age 70, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest t City.
Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Little Rock and was the daughter of Hugh Blakely and Gertrude Baker Blakely. She lived in Forrest City for the past 52 years and was a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Women of the Moose, was a Moose Heart Admission Representative and was member of the First Baptist Church.
She is was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Smith in 1978. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Terry Smith and Barbara Hastings, both of Forrest City; two sons, Danny Smith and Johnny Smith, both of Forrest City; one brother, Grady Blakely of Searcy; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be held Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ethel Dixon
Ms. Ethel Dixon, age 80, of Lee County, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.
Ms. Dixon was a farmer and a member of St. John M.B. Church.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Dixon of Marianna; three brothers, Daniel Johnson, David Johnson and Samuel Johnson, all of Marianna and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Ms. Dixon will be Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home in Marianna. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at 1 p.m., at St. John M.B. Church with Rev. Spencer Brown officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Billie Bowley Couch
Mrs. Billie Bowley Couch, age 73, of Forrest City, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Couch, born Nov. 9, 1927, in Robstown, Texas, was the daughter of C.F. Bowley and Althea Chase Bowley. She had made her home in Forrest City for the past 42 years. Mrs. Couch was retired from First National Bank where she served as the senior loan teller for 21 years. Mrs. Couch was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
In 1947 Mrs. Couch married W.T. "Bill" Couch and he survives her along with a son, James Couch of Mablevale; a brother, T. R. Bowley of Dallas, Texas and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Couch in 1969 and Larry Couch in 1992.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Couch was held Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, with Rev. Rex Darling officiating under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church.

Leatie Mae Moore
Mrs. Leatie Mae Moore, age 89, of Forrest City, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Moore was born May 15, 1912, in Pontotoc, Miss. and was the daughter of Leonard Stone and Geneva Staton Stone. She lived in Parkin and Forrest City most of her life and was a housewife.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Wesley Moore in 1984. She is survived by five sons, James Moore of West Memphis, Wayne Moore of Oscelola, Wesley Moore, Steve Moore and Edgar Moore, all of Forrest City; two daughters, Emma Jo Worley of Forrest City and Linda Coleman of Pine Tree; a sister, Ann Marie Graves of Parkin; 33 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Moore will be held Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at 4 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Hughes Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Beatrice Young
Mrs. Beatrice Young, age 89, of Madison, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, in Toledo, Ohio.
Mrs. Young was a homemaker and a member of Madison Light M.B. Church.
She is survived by six daughters, Mary Reese and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Toledo, Ohio, Dorothy Jones of St. Louis, Mo., Texanna Berry of Forrest City, Eloise Boyde of Texas and Alberta Clark of Madison; eight sons, Eugene Williams and Thomas Montgomery, both of Omaha, Neb., Ricardo Montgomery of Toledo, Ohio, Euclide Montgomery, Alfred L. Montgomery, Freddie Montgomery, Fredrick Montgomery and Robert Montgomery, all of Pomona, Calif.; three sisters, Cleo Bundy, Liddia Flenora and Neoma Herron, all of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Albert Lane of Texas; 48 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Young was held today, Aug. 20, 2001, from noon to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Madison Light M.B. Church with Rev. Isiah McKeown officiating the service. Burial will follow in Scott-Bond Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Helen Marie Sexton
Mrs. Helen Marie Sexton, age 87, of Palestine, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001.
Mrs. Sexton was born Dec. 30, 1913 in Haynes and was the daughter of Guy Odie Cothran, Sr. and Lela Stanley Cothran. She lived in St. Francis County most of her life and was a retired grocery store owner and a Baptist.
Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Sexton, in 1961, along with one son, Stan Sexton; one step-son, Alex Sexton and one grandson, James Pippin.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Pippin of Southhaven, Miss., Marie Shelton of Nesbit, Miss. and Claudia Marrs of Palestine; four sisters, Sue Morgenstern of New Matamoras, Ohio, Christine Cothran of Forrest City, Salley Castaneda of Dinuba, Calif and Betty Linnanto of Eugene, Ore.; one brother, W.T. Cothran of Avenal, Calif.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Sexton will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Johnson Cemetery in Wheatley under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Lear Baker
Mrs. Lear Baker, age 79, of Madison, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Baker, born June 4, 1922, in St. Francis County, was the daughter of Wylie Smith and Mary Martin Smith. She was retired from Sanyo.
Mrs. Baker is survived by five daughters, Lue Vingue Hawkins, Verlean Davis and Alma Wright, all of Madison, Annie Mae Owens and Patricia Smith, both of Stockton, Calif.; four sons, Frankie Baker and Lenell Baker, both of Detroit, Mich., Theodis Smith of Little Rock and Tesell Smith of Kennett, Mo.; two sisters, Rachel Long and Edith White, both of Madison; a brother, James Smith of Washington, D.C.; 32 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Baker will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone M.B. Church with Rev. Lenell Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Emma L. Williams
Mrs. Emma L. Williams, age 89, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Williams, a retired funeral director, was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She is survived by two sisters, Minnie Warren and Charlean Carr, both of Forrest City and a brother, Frank Shaw Jr., of Forrest City.
Visitation for Mrs. Williams will be held Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with Bishop Tom Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Mary Pullett
Mrs. Mary Pullett, age 94, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Pullett was born Aug. 5, 1907, in Humboldt, Tenn. and was the daughter of Willie Bolden and Jennie Clark Bolden.
She is survived by one daughter, Leola Pullett of Forrest City; a grandchild and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Pullett will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stanley Grove Church with Elder Verlee Lucas officiating the service. Burial will follow in Stanley Grove Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Jessie Mae Burton
Mrs. Jessie Mae Burton, age 87, of Marianna, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Burton was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Cedar Springs, Miss., and was the daughter of the late Sidney Mitchell and Levy Walker Mitchell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Burton; two brothers, Hubert and John Mitchell; and two sistes, Maggie Story and Stella May.
She is survived by two sons, Loyd Burton of North Little Rock and William "Bill" Burton of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Wilma Dean Mathews of Palestine, Erma Jean Hendrix of Marianna and Betty Allshouse of Hot Springs; one brother, Homer Mitchell of Marianna; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burton were held today, Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Walls Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was officiated by Rev. David Scott and Rev. Randy Baker. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna.
