Joseph K. Day
January 27, 1902
Arizona Republican Newspaper

Joseph K. Day died yesterday morning about 5 o'clock
at the Sisters Hospital of pneumonia. He had been
sick a little over a week and was taken to the hospital
by his most intimate friend, Mr. Tom M. Bower. A day
or two before he admitted his own illness he went out
to the holdings of the Rand Oil Company, near Camel
Back and slept one night in a wagon. When he returned
to town there was no question of his illness and he was
taken to the hospital.

Mr. Day was in the neighborhood of 40 years of age and
was well known all over Arizona, as he was formerly a
partner of John McCarty, the hunter and trapper whose
mysterious disappearance and supposed death created a
sensation here last summer. Mrs. McCarty is a niece of
a half brother of Mr. Day and Mr. Bower sent word to her
yesterday. She lives some distance from Florence and
the message was forwarded by courier. There are no
other relatives in this part of the country and pending
a reply from Mrs. McCarty no arrangements for the
funeral have been made.

Mr. Day was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of this city
and was a greatly respected man of quiet habits and never
indulged in liquor. His fidelity to his friends was most
notably exhibited during the search for the body of Mr.
McCarty. When others began to talk of the futility of
the search, Mr. Day quietly announced that he would
never stop until the mystery was cleared up. Both he
and Mr. Bower were with the party from which Mr.
McCarty wandered away and both stayed in the field
until the remains were found in the little canyon
in the Mogollons and both escorted them to Phoenix.
Mr. Day was an experienced mountaineer and trapper
and was for years associated with Mr. McCarty in that
line of work.

Funeral
January 30, 1902

The funeral of J.K. Day was held yesterday afternoon from
the undertaking parlors being conducted by Phoenix lodge
I.O.O.F. of which he was a member. Mrs. John McCarty and
her grandmother Mrs. Cosgray of Dudleyville and Mrs.
Lillie Durham of Red Rock arrived here in the morning
after a long ride over the desert and were in attendance.

months, made many acquaintances and was well liked.
He came here in March of this year, entering the employ
of Nickerson and Wilson, mining brokers. He was not
strong when he came, having a slight throat affection,
but his disease advanced very rapidly and in August he
returned to St. Anthony's hospital in Denver where he
died. His only relatives were an uncle in Jersey City
and a mother and brother in Europe. His brother, Henri
DeHane is a musician of considerable note having played
before many of the crowned heads of the continent.

May 11, 1902
Arizona Republican Newspaper

The funeral of E.M. Dorris will be held this afternoon at
4 o'clock in the Baptist church, Rev. Dr. Halsey
officiating. The casket will not be opened in the
church, but those desiring to view the remains can

undertkaing parlors of Mohn and Easterling.

The Funeral
May 12, 1902

The funeral services for the late E.M. Dorris held at
the Baptist Church yesterday afternoon were attended by
a large circle of relatives and friends. The church was
beautifully decorated with flowers, roses and evergreens,
under the direction of Miss Lucy T. Ellis, aided by the
Sunshine circle of the Junior Union.

The music by the quartette, Mrs. Embree, Mrs. Thomposn,
Dr. Dodsworth and Mr. Coggins sang, "There is Rest for
the Weary," "Nearer My God to Thee" and O Sing to Me of
Heaven." The first and the last of these selections were
great favorties with Mr. Dorris and were sung at the
funeral of his mother in 1884.

The casket was covered with floral offerings and was
borne by Messrs. McFall, Vermillion, Massie, Marshall,
Davidson and Coverdale as was requested by Mr. Dorris
before his death. A large procession of friends
accompanied the relatives to the cemetery where
after the commital service the burial mound was
covered with flowers.

D.J. Driscoll
April 9, 1902
Arizona Republican Newspaper

D.J. Driscoll died at Jerome recently of pneumonia.
When Mr. Driscoll took to his bed, says the Reporter,
he was firmly convinced that he had but a short time
to live. No reasoning could overcome his belief that
his death was near. He called his wife to his bedside
and told her of this feeling and requested that she
marry as soon as she thought good taste would permit,
adding that it ws his wish that she marry a good man,
a total abstainer, that personal appearance was not
to be taken into consideration.

the stomach and was brought to Tucson for medical
attention about a week ago. She was given the very
best of care, the disease had gone too far and its
inroads could not be stopped. Mr. Duffy and his wife's
sister were at the bedside when the end came. Mrs.
Frank Duffy ws one of the most popular residents of
Nogales. Her remains will be shipped to that point for
