JOHN TILZWER'S BOAT
Feburary 6, 1905

The boat of John Tilzer, who was drowned Saturday
afternoon, was found anchored to some brush opposite
the race track but the body of Tilzer has not been
discovered and it is not expected that it will be
until the water goes down. The wife and children
are still at the Valley Lodging House. Their effects
will be brought off the island today and the
supervisors will find a place for them and give
them a start toward making a living.

It turned out yesterday that none of the shacks on the
island were disturbed by the flood. Though the water
had entered all of them, it had not sufficient force to
sweep them away. There are a dozen goats, a lot of
chickens and a horse to say nothing of the meager
household effects. The water had receded so much
yesterday afternoon that may persons were able to
cross the channel on horseback and inspect the
ruins of the camp.

TILZER's BODY FOUND
February 12, 1905

John Tilzer, the man who was drowned at the foot of
Seventh Street a week ago was in the water just a week.
Yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at almost the precise
hour when Tilzer's boat was overturned his body was
found by Ned Roberts, a horseman. It lay partly out
of the water across the upper end of a sand bar a
quarter of a mile below Seventh Avenue. It was
partly covered by sand and water. Roberts came
to town and notified the officials of his find.
Coroner Burnett turned the matter over to Merryman's
undertaking establishment and the body was sent
for. It was brought in last night and an inquest
was held. The family of Tilzer was notified of
the recovery of the body and the widow and children
called at the morgue to see it. The corpse was
in bad shape and will be buried today.

Willie Tribolet
September 12, 1905
Arizona Republican Newspaper

Willie Tribolet died at 8 o'clock yesterday morning at the
home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Tribolet, corner of
Second and Pierce Streets of an affection of the heart.
He had not been in good health having been a sufferer from
rheumatism for a long time and during the greater part of
the summer he was confined to his home. Of late his health
had been better and the night before his death he called
on several neighbors and even attended the band concert
at the city hall plaza.

About 11 o'clock he returned home and complained of
feeling badly. A doctor was called and later in the
night there was an improvement in his condition.
Shortly before 8 o'clock he turned for the worse again
and died.

The funeral will take place from the residence at 4
o'clock this afternoon.

The young man was sixteen years of age and lived in
Phoenix the greater part of his life. He as a studious
boy and young man and had developed a considerable
talent for drawing. He attracted attention by his
unusual size for one so young. The night before he
died he complained to a friend that his illness had
thrown him out of school for nearly a year and he
said that shortly he would enter a private school
and endeavor to make up lost time.

Mrs. J. Blount
January 12, 1910
Arizona Republican Newspaper

Mrs. Jay Blount died yesterday morning at an early hour
in a hospital in Phoenix to which place she was taken
from here several weeks ago. Her death is an unusually
sad one, for up to a few months ago she was a well woman.
Her death was due directly to a mental breakdown and for
some weeks past it has been apparent to the members of her
family that there was little chance of recovery.

The remains were brought over from Phoenix yesterday and
the funeral will be held this afternoon in the
Congregational Church at 2 o'clock under the auspices of
the Modern Woodman of America. The cortege will move from
the home near the creamery at 1:30 o'clock.

Mrs. Blount is survived by her husband and four children,
three girls and one boy.

Funeral of Mrs. Blount
January 14, 1910

The funeral of Mrs. Jay Blount was held from the Congregational
Church yesterday afternoon at two o'clock. The remains were
brought over from Phoenix where death occurred in the morning
and taken to the home where they were held until the hour of
the funeral. The services at the church were conducted by
Rev. Hardin, the pastor. At the grave, they were under the
auspices of the Modern Woodmen of America. The pallbearers
were C.C. Watson, D.G. Buck, Frank LaMont, Dr. R.L.
Alexander, C.P. Mullen and Rev. R.L. Creal.

Mrs. Minnie Josephine Blount was born at Galesburg
Illinois February 12, 1863 of Swedish parents. She was
early left an orphan her father having died when she was
but five years of age and her mother when she was about
12. Despite these adverse circumstances Mrs. Blount was
graduated from the Galesburg High School at an early age
and devoted herself to the profession of a teacher,
continuing her professional studies in the Training
School at Normal, Illinois. For ten years she was
regarded as the most successful primary teacher in
northern Illinois. The parents and near relatives of
Mrs. Blount having been members of the Lutheran Church,
she was brought up and made her confirmation in that
faith. Mrs. Blount became the wife of Jay Blount in 1893
at the old home place in Galesburg, Ill. being then about
thirty years of age.
She has left four children, three girls and one boy, the
oldest being fifteen and the youngest ten years of age.

After her marriage Mr. and Mrs. Blount lived for a time at
Byron Ill. the former home of Mr. Blount. Here all their
children were born. Later they lived for two years at
Lamars, Iowa, where Mrs. Blount became endeared to the
hearts of many. But the severity of the winters hastened
their departure for the Salt River Valley where they have
lived for five years, two of which have been in the
neighborhood of Tempe. Here Mrs. Blount has been
actively identified with every good work. Her family
life was very happy. The husband and wife lived the
lives of lovers to the last and took great pride in
the fact. Walking arm in arm down the road to his
place of business, talking merrily as they went,
friends drove by and took notice.

And Mr. Blount was not ashamed of the love and affection
of his wife. He had been heard to say "no man ever loved
a wife more than I loved her and no man ever had a wife
more worthy." Mrs. Blount was a very cheery and light
hearted until stricken with her last illness, symptoms
of which did not appear until after Thanksgiving.
This day was spent at home as a family.

During her rest in the hospital she was seen by her
husband daily. Nurses and physicians were very kind
and devoted and Mrs. Blount came to love them. Of
late Mrs. Blount has been very sleepless. But on the
last night she went to sleep at 11 o'clock. The nurses
looked in at intervals and she appeared to be resting.
About 5 o'clock on closer examination it was found that
she had slipped away.

Besides her husband and her four children Mrs. Blount
leaves only two brothers, too far away to be present
on this occasion. An only sister died about 1891
leaving one boy about five years of age, whom Mrs.
Blount, while yet a teacher, cared for as a mother until
able to be cared for by his own father. Mrs. Blount
passed to her heavenly reward early in the morning of
January 12, 1910 being nearly forty seven. The
interment was made at the Double Butte cemetery.
