Earline V. Daniels entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Wilson, NC. She was born in San Diego, CA on September 22, 1925 and was a longtime resident of El Cerrito, CA. She had recently re-located to North Carolina.
Her beloved husband, Paul Lindberg Daniels, of 42 years, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters Paula McMillian of Wilson, NC and Karen Daniels of Richmond, CA, a son-in-law Jomerro McMillian, one granddaughter Rebecca McMillian, one sister Ruthelle Holmes, a sister-in-law Ora Phillips of Berkeley, CA, a sister and brother-in-law Delmer and Geraldine Anderson of Chicago, a brother-in-law John Daniels also of Chicago and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Earline, a celebration of her life, on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of the chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.

Lawrence Donald Farnan
May 26 1958 - September 9 2001

Services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on Friday, September 28, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the Reflection Chapel for Michael Lawrence Farnan, 45, and Lawrence Donald “Don” Farnan, Jr., 43, both former residents of Sonoma County. Both men, along with Michael’s wife Pama, were victims in the crash of their single-engine aircraft in Willits, California on September 9, 2001. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and Michael passed at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on September 21, 2001.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Danielle Farnan, who was also injured in the crash but was later released from Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Michael is survived by his daughter, Darcy Farnan. Both brothers are survived by their father, Lawrence Donald Farnan, Sr., their brother Edward L. Farnan, their sister, Nancy Mathai and various nieces and nephews.

Both men most recently were residents of San Mateo County, where each owned a contracting business.

Elena Sotomayer-Canales
September 14 1910 - September 22 2001

Elena Sotomayor-Canales, a Livermore resident entered into rest at her home on Saturday afternoon September 22, 2001. She was a Mexico City native born on September 14, 1910 to the late Miguel & Jovita Sotomayor.
Elena was a licensed vocational nurse who specialized in children’s care. In the last ten years of her career she provided Geriatric care for a convalescent hospital. Besides her career, she had a special green thumb for gardening and enjoyed traveling with her family.

Dearly beloved wife of 20 years to Mr. Cypriano Torres who preceded her in death. Devoted mother of Sylvia Ibarra of Livermore and the late Enrique Sotomayor. Dear sister of Eduardo Sotomayor and Salvador Sotomayor both of Mexico City. Preceded in death by her siblings; Maria Sotomayor, Miguel Sotomayor, Alfonso Sotomayor, and Rodolfo Sotomayor. Special grandmother of six; Glen A. Ibarra & Robert A. Ibarra both of Livermore, Enrique Torres, Alfonso Torres, Vicki Sotomayor and Sylvia Torres all from Mexico City. Great grandmother of four; Vanessa Torres, Alan Torres, Carla Torres and Christian Torres also from Mexico City.

Friends are welcome to attend visitation on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 from 5 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. And a Funeral Service on Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will take place at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park & Funeral Home in the Reflection Chapel.

Martha Magdalena Kennedy
July 23 1908 - September 21 2001

Martha Magdalena Jergentz Kennedy, born on July 23, 1908 in Hartford, North Dakota. The 6th of 9 children born to Gustave & Rosina Jergentz died on September 21, 2001 at Bethesda Christian Retirement Center. She was a resident of Hayward, Ca. since 1946.
Dearly beloved wife of the late Daniel A. Kennedy. Loving mother of Ray McGinnis of Hayward, Ca. and Nadine Rydman of Modesto, Ca. Mother-in-law of Maria McGinnis & Ronald Rydman. Special grandmother of Michael Rydman, Monica DeMain, Myles McGinnis and Jessica Vollmer. Great-grandmother of Shauna Silva, Michelle Rydman, Nicole McGinnis, Justin McGinnis, Raelyn Volmer, Karly DeMain and Madison DeMain. Great Great-Grandmother of Katelynn Silva. Also, survived by her remaining sister Esther Perry of Hayward.

Ruth Corsen a San Leandro resident entered into rest Wednesday, September 5, 2001 in San Leandro. Born in Oakland on January 15, 1919, she was 82 years of age. Ruth was a homemaker for 41 years and she loved to garden.
Dear sister of Mildred Lane of San Leandro, Bernice Bowman of San Leandro and Eunice Sauer of Sacramento. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Leland S. Corsen, her parents Ethel Mae and Paul Arnold Rook and her brother John Rook.

Services were held privately by family at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

Margaret Loo Wong
September 28 1914 - September 24 2001

Margaret L. Wong, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 24, 2001 in Concord, CA. She was 86 years old. Margaret will always be remembered for her warm smile and caring heart. She gave so much to those in need. Margaret is survived by Robert, devoted husband and friend of 57 years and her son, Gary. Margaret was born in San Francisco.
She later moved to Oxnard, CA in 1945. In Oxnard she was part of the Naval Construction Regiment; Port Hueneme, CA. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She returned to the Bay Area in 1986 and lived in Concord, CA. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 28th, 2001 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA in Stateroom "C" in our Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA on Saturday, September 29th, 2001 at 2:00PM in our Chimes Chapel.

Angelina Pimentel a Union City resident entered into rest Monday, September 24, 2001 in Fremont. Born in La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico on August 2, 1919, she was 82 years of age. Angelina loved crocheting, gardening, spending time with family. She liked to watch spanish game shows, talk shows and novelas (spanish soap operas). She would also write jokes for the radio stations in spanish.
Loving mother of Socorro Hernandez of Newark, Raquel Copado of Hayward, Guillermo Herrera of Hayward and Raul Herrera. Dear sister of Socorro Cano of Mexico and Maria Elena Romero of Milpitas. Devoted grandmother of fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2001 from 5:00-8:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Frank H. Stone
May 18 1918 - September 26 2001

Frank H. Stone a Pleasanton resident entered into rest Wednesday, September 26, 2001 in Pleasanton. Born in New York on May 18, 1918, he was 83 years of age. Frank went to Officers Candidate school in New Jersey, served 17 years in the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked for the National Cash Register Company of 44 years.
Dearly beloved husband of Virginia Stone for 54 years. Loving father of Nancy Mullins of Pleasanton, Barbara Sauter of Pleasanton and Frank H. Stone III of Chico. Dear brother of Emily O’Connel and John Kaminski both of Saugarites, New York. Devoted grandfather of four grandchildren.

At his request there will be no services held.

He was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West a Auburn Parlor and an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed weight lifting, he was always very fit. He was a Website Designer for Interwoven Company for 10 years.

Maria R. Ramos a Hayward resident entered into rest Sunday, October 7, 2001 in Hayward. Born in Aguililla, MIchigan on February 17, 1961, she was 40 years of age. Maria lived in Hayward for 30 years. She met her husband Tony 16 years ago at Peterbilt Motors in Newark. They were transferred to San Diego and have lived in Chula Vista the last 6 years due to the closure of Alameda Naval Base. She was actively involved with I.R.S.A. Maria was a brilliant and dedicated loving wife and mother. We all admired her strength and faith.
Dearly beloved wife of Tony Ramos. Loving mother of Renee Ramos of Newark, Veronica Baca of Hayward, Anthony Ramos of Newark and Carlos Ramos of Hayward. Wonderful daughter to Ramon and Juanita Gamino of Hayward. Dear sister of Margarita Gamino, Maria Oseguera, Ana Maria Gamino, Maria Pastran, Juan Gamino, Ramon Gamino and Ernesto Gamino.

Sarah Celina Fresquez Paz
July 7 1920 - October 6 2001

Sarah Celina Fresquez Paz, 81, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, California. She was born on July 7, 1920 in Espinoza, Colorado. She moved to California in 1968 from Manassa, Colorado where she spent most of her life. She was a resident of Newman, California for the past 6 years, prior from Union City and Fremont, California for 20 years, she spent almost all 20 years in Union City, California. She also spent a short time in San Jose, California. She loved sewing, embroidery, crocheting, quilting and especially sewing for her grandchildren. She also really enjoyed cooking and she was famous for her homemade roasted chili peppers. She loved to travel. She was a “Rosie the Riveter”. She always shared remem-brances of past family history with the entire family. She was a storyteller. As a little girl Sarah loved to go out onto the farm and help her father out with outdoor chores instead of working inside the house with the others. Her father was a Sheepherder and she always was there to help him out with the sheep. She built her own home out of adobe bricks with her sons and brothers as a widow. She became widowed the first time after her youngest was only nine months old. She was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman and Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Union City, California. She is survived by a long time family inherited companion; Edward, her parrot.
She is survived by her loving children; Loveada Fresquez of Newman, Lawrence & Velma Fresquez of Brentwood, Gilbert Luis & Antonia “Toni” Fresquez of Live Oak and Michael Lizardo Fresquez of Newman, California. She is survived by a dear sister and two brothers; Lillian Sandoval of Manassa, Juan Cisneros of Antonito, CO and Flamino Cisneros of Manassa, CO. She also has nine beautiful grandchildren and four wonderful great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a daughter; Loretta Fresquez.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Another Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church; 703 “C” Street, Union City, CA 94587. interment will immediately follow the Mass at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Amparo M Shauf

Amparo M. Shauf, a Hayward resident of 29 years entered into rest on Friday, October 5, 2001in Castro Valley at Eden Hospital. She was a native of the Philippines, born on May 9, 1932 to the late Edilberto & Isabel Morales.
Amparo was a devoted housewife who enjoyed gardening, shopping, sewing and cooking.

Dearly beloved wife of 53 years of Mr. Samuel Shauf of Hayward. Loving mother of Carla Lee of Hayward, Cynthia De Guzman of Hayward, Grace Salapare of Alameda, Eleanor Torres of Hayward, Priscilla Aganon of Fremont, Eugene Shauf of Sacramento, Noel Shauf of Florida and the late Evangeline Tiatco & Glenn Shauf. Special sister of Aida Samson of Washington, Patricia Cano and Augusto Morales both of Philippines and the late Salvador Morales, Gloria Reyes & Augustina Pinlac all preceded Amparo in death. David Paiva
January 13 1947 - October 1 2001

David Paiva, 54 passed away on Monday, October 1, 2001 at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California. He was born on January 13, 1947 in Oakland, California. He was born and raised in the East Bay Area. He was a resident of Hayward for the past 15 years.
He was a member of the Local Teamster #287. He was a truck driver for 34 years. He was working for Concrete Tie Co., a concrete supply company. David was the 12th child born to his parents. He was a young golfer and loved playing cards. He enjoyed family gatherings and especially his old 67 Chevy Impala.

David was preceded in death by his beloved father; David C. Paiva and his brother; Fred Paiva. He is survived by his beloved mother; Thelma R. Paiva of Fremont, California. He was a devoted father to his only daughter; Wendy K. Paiva of El Cerrito, California. He also leaves behind his former wife of 17 years; Setsuko Paiva of El Cerrito, California. He was a dear brother to five sisters and seven brothers. His sisters; Helen Paiva of Sacramento, Merie Solomon of Hayward, Mary Rose of Newark, Catherine Ruiz of Reno and Susan Ball of Fremont, California. His brothers; Manuel of Antioch, Bill of Gold Beach, OR, Lewis of Oakland, Eddie of Tracy, Leroy of Union City and Anthony Paiva of Sacramento, California. He also leaves behind his wonderful grandson; Trevor Paiva of El Cerrito, California. He also has numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Walter Arthur Crispino
November 14 1921 - September 27 2001

Walter Arthur Crispino died September 27, 2001 in Oakland, CA. Mr. Crispino was born November 14, 1921 to Manuel and Eva Crispino, in Oakland, CA. He was a WWII Navy veteran who served in the Pacific, and was discharged in 1946.
He was a lifelong resident of Oakland. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister who succumbed to the Spanish Influenza Epidemic of 1918. His first wife Patricia Hewitt Cizek, his second wife Jane K. Crispino and his daughter Karen O'Harran also preceded him in death.

His daughter Janice Jones and four grandchildren Zachary and Jasmine Jones, Troy and Trevor O'Harran survive him. No services will be held. Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.

Steve Rogers Thompson
December 23 1935 - September 30 2001

Steve Rogers Thompson born on December 23, 1935 in San Diego, California, passed away in Oakland, CA, on Sunday, September 30, 2001, at 12:34 a.m., following a surgical procedure to stop the spread of an infection. He is finally at rest after years of suffering from medical problems, beginning with a liver transplant in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Rosa Thompson; his step-children, Philip and Lisa Bautista; his five step-grandchildren: Monique Sombilon, Candice Bautista, Tera Bautista, Brianna Bautista and Phillip Benito Bautista; his first wife, Masako Thompson and their child, Steve Roger Thompson Jr.; his second wife, Donna Thompson and their child, Michelle Thompson; his brothers and sisters: Jeri Morrison, Barbara Walsb, Tommy Thompson, Larry Thompson, Mary Hagenbuch, Ruth Nickerson, Patty Tacket and Jackie, all of who love him very much. He was predeceased by his third wife, Reme Thompson, whom he at his request he will be buried icon alongside.

Steve entered the U.S. Army February 1955 and retired as Staff Sergeant E6 July 31, 1975, after serving four tours in Vietnam. A highly decorated soldier, he received many awards and medals including: the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and the 800 Military SAF Driver Badge. Upon retirement from the military, he was hired on December 18, 1975, for World Savings and Loan with his most recent position Supervisor Sr. II in their warehouse. He has served as Faitllful Navigator with tbe Knights of Columbus for the past approximately seven years. He was also a member of The American Legion and the Elks Alameda Lodge. Steve believed in God. Although he had a stern resolve, he loved his family and tried to do what was right. His strength in overcoming obstacles and his warm love and understanding, an inspiration throughout his lifetime, are the legacy he leaves behind. He will live in every one of our hearts. He loved the outdoors, fishing, The Oakland A's and Oakland Raiders, helping others, watching over his sisters, and playing Santa Claus. His brother Tommy says that Steve was his John Wayne.

Dad, you are and always will be a soldier, a fighter to the very end. I'm very thankful that we (Mom, Philip, you, and I) all had closure in the end. It was a rough journey. You gave a lot to our country, family, and friends. Let us always remember the happy times we shared together, until we meet again. I know you are safe with God and in the company of those who passed before you. Say hello to Little Bit. Love always, Lisa.

Grace Hisa Nishiyama
November 27 1917 - September 29 2001

Grace Hisa Nishiyama, 83 passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Parkview Healthcare Center in Hayward, California. She was born on November 27, 1917 in Salinas, California. She has been a resident of San Leandro, California for 56 years. She loved singing in the church choir, cooking, baking cookies, gardening, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Takashi Nishiyama, who passed away on October 15, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a sister; Tomi Nishiyama and four brothers; Shigeo, Dan, Roy and Tim Mizokami. She is survived by her loving children and two daughter-in-laws; Kiyo Takahashi of Pleasanton, James K. & Mary Nishiyama of Oakley and Robert & Yolanda Nishiyama of Castro Valley, California. She is survived by a dear sister; Sally Yasunaga of Gardena, California. She has two dear brothers; Dick Mizokami of Berkeley, California and Bob Mizokami of Flagstaff, Arizona. She has five beautiful grandchildren; Christina Takahashi of Pleasanton, Paul Nishiyama of San Diego, Anahita Perez of Antioch, J.J. Sami of Oakley and Toby Nishiyama of Oakland, California. She has one very special great-grandchild; Parisa Perez of Antioch, California.
