WILLIAMS, CLEOLA J. in Sacramento October 13, 2001. Loving mother of Leonard L. and James L. Williams. Sister of Brooks Richardson of Chicago, Illinois. Grandmother of seven, great grandmother of seventeen, and great-great grandmother of five and also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Williams was a 54 year resident of the Del Paso/Johnson Heights neighborhood in Sacramento. Member of the Del Paso Heights Good Neighbors Club and Community Activist. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Thursday, October 18 from 4 to 8 pm at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes-4701 Marysville Blvd-Sacramento, Ca. (922-5833) , with funeral services being held Friday, October 19 at 11:00 am at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church-700 Benton Ave.-Sacramento. interment to follow at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

Amanda Teckle Hack
December 29 1895 - October 11 2001

HACK, AMANDA T. was born December 29,1895 in Bellingham, Minnesota, and passed away on October 11, 2001 at her home in Susanville, California. She lived to see three centuries, raised 9 children, and has enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, totaling over 100. Moving to Deering, North Dakota for employment, Amanda met her future husband, Clayton E. Hack, and they were married on December 14, 1915. Clayton and Amanda moved to Malta, Montana to homestead in 1918. As homesteaders, Amanda raised 5 boys and 4 girls while working along side her husband. Amanda’s tender heart and strong spirit saw them though the depression, Montana winters and summer droughts. Due to receiving word from Clayton’s mother, who was severly burned, and needed their help, they moved to Rio Linda, California with their three younger children in 1943. Amanda was gifted with many talents which she used to help her family bring in extra income. Her speciality was baking and decorating cakes. Amanda enjoyed her grandchildren, who always found her cookie jar full; her flower gardens; crocheting; crafts; collecting salt and pepper shakers; and creating art out of driftwood. All of Amanda’s family and friends enjoyed the traditional Norweigan Christmas Eve lutefisk and lefse dinner in her home. Amanda’s living children are Marie St. Jacque of Susanville, California; Vera McClanahan of Cut Bank, Montana; Clifford Hack of Kennewick, Washington; June Hendrickson of Citrus Heights, California; Vernon Hack of Forrest Hill, California; Doris Kile of Vacaville,California and Floyd Hack of Newcastle, California. She is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband Clayton and sons Raymond “Bud” Hack and Harold Hack. Family Services were held Monday, October 15, 2001. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes.

William Ernest Price
September 17 1912 - October 11 2001

Memorial services for William E. Price of Walnut Creek, will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 28th in the Diablo Room, Hillside Clubhouse in Rossmoor, Walnut Creek. He died on October 11, in Walnut Creek.
He was born September 17, 1912, in Oakland, the first child of Berkeley residents, Ernest H. Price , Jr. and Kathleen Sharwood Price , both native Californians. He lived most of his life in the Bay Area, except for business transfers to Los Angeles (1939-1943) and Kenilworth, Illinois (1957-1977). Upon retiring in 1977, he moved directly from the Chicago area to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek.

Price graduated from Berkeley High School in 1929 and from University of California in 1934, where he was a member of Abracadabra fraternity. Immediately after Cal he started a career as a marketing professional, becoming manager of advertising and public relations for Liquid Carbonic Corporation (31 years), Fansteel Mettallurgical Corporation (6years) and Professional Photographers of America (6 years). He volunteered for Navy during WWII, was commissioned a Lieutenant in 1943, saw action in the South Pacific and the Philippines as an Armed Guard commander aboard merchant vessals. He was married to Milo King Price of Berkeley in 1937 until her passing in 1993.

He was an accredited member of Public Relations Society of America and belonged to its Oakland/East Bay section. In recent years he has been the Rossmoor representative for California Adventure College. At Rossmoor his memberships included Golden State Club, of which he was a Past Governor; Cal Alumni Club, where he was Vice-President - Membership and official photographer; SIRS; Poetry Club, of which he was a Past President; Founding member, Philatelic Society; founder of Literary Circle at The Waterford; Readers' Theatre participant at The Waterford; "Profile" columnist for The Waterford monthly; and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he has served as lector, senior warden, vestryman, head usher.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Rankin of Rossmoor; son, Kent Price of Orland, Main; daughters, Cynthia Price Peters of Martinez and Andrea Choo of Kaneoche, Hawaii; grandchildren, jamieson Price of Long Beach and Wendeline Price of Echo Bay, Ontarion, Canada; four great-grand children.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 2088, Walnut Creek, CA 94595

Vivian Inez Bothwell
September 4 1904 - October 12 2001

Vivian E. Bothwell in Oakland on October 12, 2001. Beloved wife of the late Albert E. Bothwell of Oakland. Loving mother of Paul Bothwell of El Sobrante and the late Connie Burgess. Dear sister of Eldora English of Portola Valley and Donald Eager of Santa Rosa. Dear grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 19. A native of Rogers, Texas, aged 97 years. A member of Melrose Baptist Church and Brookside Baptist Church, secretary International Visitors Committee UC Berkeley for 12 years, leadership roles with Women's Missionary Society and other church offices.
Friends are invited to attend memorial services at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 1:00 pm.

Shirley Jean Makinson Greig
February 3 1920 - October 12 2001

Shirley Makinson Greig loved red lipstick, water aerobics, white wine, volunteer work, traveling, her friends, and talking to strangers. She was born February 3, 1920, the second child to Helen and Frank Makinson in Oakland, California.
Shirley attended Catilleja Boarding School and Piedmont High School and graduated in 1941 from Pomona College with degrees in Sociology and Psychology. She Married Robert Ware Greig on June 14, 1942. A year later, they moved to their first home in Piedmont. During WW11, while Bob was in the Navy, Shirley worked at the Cal Pack and Dole Pineapple Factories.

On July 6, 1946 their first child, Barbara ware, was born. A second Daughter, Laurie Makinson, was born on October 2, 1948. A third daughter, Victoria Kathleen, died in infancy in 1949. Shirley spent her life as a wife and mother, serving friends in need and working with volunteer organizations. During the Vietnam War, she worked at Oak Knoll Hospital on the amputee ward, did Red Cross Volunteer work after the Oakland earthquake and fire, and later in life served as a Hospice Volunteer.

The state Of California was a primary love of Shirley's life, although she traveled all over the world. In 1998, she stood at 14,000 feet in Tibet without oxygen, the Tibetan flags flying colorfully behind her. She adored the Bay Area and exploring small, out-of-the-way places. She also pursued golf, tennis, water aerobics, walking and hiking.

Shirley was independent, thoughtful, personable, and gregarious. She could start up a conversation with anyone in most all situations. She loved dining in restaurants and finding out what strangers at each table recommend for a meal. Shirley was always the last one to order at her own table.

Shirley is survived by her oldest daughter, Bobbie Mims-Beane, and son-in-law, James Beane, Of Beaverton, Oregon, her granddaughters, Abigail Mims of Los Angels, Kari Mims, of Indianola, Washington, and her youngest daughter, Laurie Makinson Greig, of Bainbridge Island, Washington. Shirley also leaves behind close her friend of many years, John Stock, and his children, Virginia and John, and their respective families.

Shirley out lived her husband by 17 years passed away on what would have been his eighty-third birthday October 12, 2001. She died as fully as she lived, surrounded by love and support of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made in her name to Sutros Gardens (GGNPA, Bldg. 201, Ft. Mason, San Francisco, CA 94123) and Sutter VNA Hospice (1900 Powell Street, Suite 300 Emeryville, Ca 94608) or a charity of your choosing.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at Piedmont Community Church. A reception will follow immediately

Bernice Walker
January 14 1932 - October 12 2001

Bernice Walker, 69, passed away on October 12, 2001. Bernice was born in Goodman, MS in 1932 and resided in Hayward for 38 years. Her husband Othell Walker, Sr. of 45 years preceded Bernice in death. She is loved and will be profoundly missed by her sister Ethell Stubbs, brothers Roy Mabry, Willie Mabry, Clinton Mabry, Oscar Mabry, daughters Cathryn Thomas, Tammy Walker, sons Othell Walker, Jr., Rory T. Walker, James K. Walker Sr., Steven C. Walker, Sr., sister-in-law Dorothy Mabry, brother-in-law Clarence Stubbs, daughter-in-law Antoinette Walker, son-in-law Anthony J. Thomas, five Grandchildren, one great grandchild and many dear friends.
Bernice was an active member of the Baptist Church of Russell City where she served as a deaconette and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed remodeling her home, cooking, and working with people that were in need of her help. Her greatest pastime was antiquing and owning precious antiques. She also loved gardening. Bernice was always very devoted and dedicated to her family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 19, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in the Reflection Chapel; 32992 Mission Boulevard In Hayward CA 94544.

Hilda Evelina Marcal-Huang
February 18 1919 - October 17 2001

Hilda Evelina Marcal-Huang, 82, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, California. She was born on February 18, 1919 in Shanghai, China. She has been a resident of Pleasanton and Dublin for the past 30 years. She was an Executive Assistant for 30 years at Matson Navigation Company. She enjoyed living life to the fullest and she did it her way, always!
Hilda is survived by her husband of 25 years, Paul V. Huang, of Pleasanton, California. She is also survived by her two loving sons, Andre Marcal of Walnut Creek and Michael Marcal of Santa Barbara, California. She also leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Andrew Marcal and Tatiana Marcal.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raymond Penafort Catholic Church; 11555 Shannon Avenue, Dublin, CA 94568. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Mark Anthony Martin, Jr.
October 20 1981 - October 25 2001

Mark Anthony Martin, Jr. a San Leandro and Fremont resident entered into rest Thursday, October 25, 2001 in Oakland. Born in Hayward, CA on October 20, 1981, he was 20 years of age.
Dearly beloved son of Lilly and Mark Martin, Sr. Dear brother of Minerva Garay of San Leandro, CA and Michael Martin of Fremont, CA. Mark Anthony Martin, Jr. enjoyed art, oil painting and music. He collected different rocks since his childhood. He loved to work on his 69 Impala. He loved plants and birds. He was an evening custodian for the New Haven Unified School District.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service October 30, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mission Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. Mass will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church located at 37891 Second Street in the city of Fremont.

Emilio C. Laus
March 22 1935 - October 29 2001

Emilio C. Laus a Fremont resident entered into rest Monday, October 29, 2001 in Fremont. Born in the Phillippine Islands on March 22,1935, he was 66 years of age. He enjoyed reading and collecting war books and guns as well as observing airplanes. His hobbies included going to gun shows, gardening, fishing and target shooting. He worked as a civil engineer for 35 years.
Dearly beloved husband of Cecilia Laus for 33 years. Dear brother of Cesar Laus of the Philippine Islands and Cr. Eduardo Laus of New York.

Cheryl A. Mathews 47, of San Leandro passed away at home on Saturday October 27, 2001 due to a long illness.
Born May 20, 1954 in Tucson, Arizona. Loving daughter of Neva Larson of Gilbert, Arizona and Tom Larson of Isleton, California. Dearly beloved wife of Mike Mathews of San Leandro for 22 years. Loving mother of Jennifer Halvorsen of San Leandro. Dear sister of Carrie Lewis of Gilbert, Arizona. Devoted grandmother of Kristy and Sheldon Halvorsen of Los Angeles.

Cheryl worked for Biolog, Inc. for seven years. A member of the Grand Avenue 7th Day Adventist Church. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors Degree in Micro Biology. She loved cooking, raising her grandchildren and Bubba, her beloved dog. Loved by all who knew her. Donald James Willett
August 16 1917 - October 26 2001

MAJOR, DONALD JAMES WILLETT, 84, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2001 at Kaiser Hospital in Hayward, California. He was born on August 6, 1917 in Red Rock, Arizona. He has been a resident of Hayward, California for the past 34 years. Donald retired as a Police Inspector with the San Francisco Police Department after 30 years of service to the community. He also retired as a Major in the U. S. Marine Corps after 30 years of service to his beloved country. He was the husband of the late, Frances Elida Willett. Donald was a devoted father of son, Robert J. & Sandra Willett of Pleasanton, California and to his daughter, Dorothy M. & William Davidson of Pocahontas, Arkansas. He was also a beloved grandfather of five grandchildren, Eric Willett, Sarah Willett, Denise Allen, Sherrie Gann and John Davidson. Donald was a Combat Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the following organizations: Veteran San Francisco Police Officers Association; San Francisco Police Officers Association; Life Member of the 1st Marine Division Association both National & The Northern California Chapter; Marine Corps Mustang Association; San Francisco Police American Legion Post #456; Life Member of the Retired Officers Association; Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Sgt. Logan Chapman Post #7636; Life Member of the 3rd Marine Division Association; Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans Association; Member of the San Lorenzo Moose Lodge #1786 & the Legion of the Moose; Retired Employees Association of The City & County of San Francisco.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.
