Preceded in death by sweetheart of 20 years Corrine Fountain in 1996, son Mike Vera in 1993, and grandson Johnny in 1990. Kay E. Franke, 71 passed away at San Leandro Hospital on Monday, October 14, 2002. Kay was born to Yvonne F. and Edmund L. Franke, Sr. in Oakland, California on April 26, 1931. She was an accomplished artist, photographer and long-standing service in the Insurance Business. She worked for Ropama Inc. in San Leandro, California. She was a member of San Leandro Art Association, Photo Central and Hayward Arts Council. She was the co-founder of Phantom Art Gallery in Hayward, California. Her beloved brothers, survive Kay Ed L. Franke, Jr. of Hathaway Pines, California and Alan R. Franke of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Her dear uncle, Norman P. Franke of Oakland, California, also survives her. Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home – Reflection Chapel; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544. She was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Hayward, California. She was also a very loving mother of four children and affectionately known as “Granny” to 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed having company, crocheting and gardening.
Loving mother of Peggy Cooper of Hayward, Susan Ewing & Don Hedglen of Concord, Jim & Beverly Ewing of Castro Valley, and Tom & “Sam” Ewing of Orland. Her husband of 61 years, Judge Ewing preceded her in death in July 1993. Her parents Sallie & John Allison along with 8 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Loving mother of Beverly Oakley (Robert). Special sister to Laura Barber of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Celia Frankfarther of Freeport, Il. Devoted grandmother of John Oakley of San Mateo, Jim Oakley of San Marcos, Paul Oakley of Lakeside and Alan Oakley of Sunnyvale. Preceded in death by husband John G. Fewell. Family and friends are invited to a visitation Monday, October 14, 2002 from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes-4701 Marysville Blvd-Sacramento (922-5833) with graveside services to follow in Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

Helen O. Knudson, 85 passed away in Castro Valley, California on Sunday, September 22, 2002. She was born in North Dakota on July 20, 1917. She has been a long-time resident of Castro Valley, California. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Theodore Knudson of Castro Valley, California. Helen leaves behind her four loving sons, Richard Knudson of Castro Valley, California, Paul & Laura Knudson of Castro Valley, California, Timothy Knudson of Castro Valley and Jeffery & Beverley Knudson of Woodbridge, California. His dear sister and brother also survive him, Mildred Swenson of Furgus Falls, Minnesota and Clyde Thorstenson of Sarasota, Florida. She was a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and she had 13 precious great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park & Funeral Home; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

A native of San Leandro, he was 75 years of age.

WAH LOCK JEW died in Oakland, CA on November 17, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Sui Kew Jew and the loving father of Kim Tung Jew, Kim Toy Jew, Sheldon Jew, Toy Nit Jau, Brenda Stam and Joyce Green. He was the loving father-in-law of Siu Hing Jew, Joann Jew, Soo Tuey Woo, Butch Stam and David Green. He was the loving grandfather of Kimberlynn and Dirk Dittemore, Tamara Jew, Victoria Jew, Richard Jew, Michael Jew, Deanna Jew, Alice and Gary Goodrich, Walton and Cindy Woo, Felton Woo, Tracey Norwood, Michele Green, Melissa Green and Jonathan Green. He was the loving great-grandfather of Stefanie Woo, Cassandra Woo, Derek Goodrich, Alexander Goodrich, Daniel Goodrich, Clare Dittemore and Cole Dittemore.
A native of Kwongtung, China, he was 91 years of age.

He was a lifetime member of Joseph McQuaide Post 125, VFW and the Mow Kwong Jew Family Association.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, November 29, 2002 from 5:00 - 8:00pm and Funeral Services on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 12:30pm. Both services will be at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. He will be interred at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.

Alvin Havis Harris
October 17 1924 - November 25 2002

Alvin Havis Harris, Born October 17, 1924 passed away on November 25th 2002 in Modesto, California after a long illness. "Havis" as he was known by family and friends was the devoted and loving husband of Gloria Hammond-Harris of Modesto, California and the brother to the late Billie Daniels, Charlie Spencer. Senoia McFarland, Queenie Burns and Loretta Arnold. Havis was the seventh child of the late James and Annie Mae Harris.
Born and raised in Gould, Arkansas where he received his formal education. In 1943, Havis enlisted in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1946. As a young man he was very adventurous and wanted to travel the world.

He later moved to the San Francisco Oakland Bay Area where he was employed as a merchant seaman. Traveling to the many ports of the world and traveled around the world seven times. He worked for Pacific Maritime Association as a longshoreman retiring after twenty nine-years.

Now, love and sweet memories remain for those that Havis has left behind: His wife Gloria. sons; Cedric Harris of San Francisco, CA, Havis Harris of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter Lisa Foshee of Modesto, CA; step sons: Aaron Myrick of Stockton, CA, and Leonard Myrick of Modesto, CA; sisters Archie Blakely of Oakland, CA; Marie Evans of San Leandro, CA; Quincie Warfield of Temecula, CA; brothers Lamar Harris of Oakland, CA and James Hams of Berkeley, CA; and also a loving "grand daddy" to Jerry (whom he raised from infancy) and nine other grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brother-in-laws Chester Blakely and Clarence Warfield. And a terrific uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.

Havis was a proud and dependable man. Soft spoken but strong and independent always there when you needed him. He always had a sensitive loving side for children and never wanted to see them deprived of their well being. Havis was not a religious man, but he was spiritual and believed in a higher power which explains his love for life and living up to his fullest potential even to the very end. He never wanted or felt the need to share his pain with anyone other than his wife, Gloria.

Havis always remained true to himself never 1etting the pressures of his ongoing illness change his personality. Havis was just a fun loving good old guy to his many friends. He will surely be missed but never forgotten.

Friends are invited to attend Memorial Services on Friday, December 6, 2002, at 1:00pm at Chapel of the Chimes 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.

Wilbur G. Hall

HALL, WILBUR G. entered into rest December 1, 2002 in Roseville, Ca, at the age of 84. Born January 20, 1918. A resident of Roseville for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys R., his children Connie Newcross and Susan Huber of Sheridan, Wyoming. The family invited friends to attend memorial services Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church 7405 Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights, Ca. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes.

Eugene Fjeld
September 5 1916 - November 30 2002

FJELD, GENE I. Passed away in Sacramento November 30, 2002. Born September 5, 1916 in Rosseau, MN. Age 86 years. A resident of Oroville, CA for the past year, and a 12 year resident Hyanpom, CA. He is survived by two children, Peter Fjeld and Debbie Burke, and one brother Norris Fjeld. Also survived by grandchildren Peter Jr, and Sonja Fjeld, Steven, Justin, and Amanda Burke, Great-grandchildren Matthew and Butterfly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years in 1994, Lois Fjeld. Mr. Fjeld was a member of the American Legion Post 832 for 57 years, and the VFW. A veteran of WWII, and the Battle of the Bulge, he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. At his request no services will be held. Arrangements were under the care of SUNSET LAWN CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES Sacramento.

Levang who died Sunday, November 24, 2002. Mrs. Levang was born March 2, 1915 in Nekoma, ND, and lived in Sacramento since the early 1930’s. She married Arnold C. Levang in 1943. Mr. Levang died in 1981. Mrs. Levang is survived by one sister-in-law, Doris Levang Hill of Rio Linda, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Arden Park Villa, 3408 Alta Arden Expressway, Sacramento, CA 95825.
