She is preceded in death by her husband Millard Jones. JOHNSTON, LeRoy Edward born Saturday, March 17, 1917 in Seymore, Missouri and died Friday, February 21, 2003 in Vacaville after a brief illness. Beloved husband for 60 years of Minnie Johnston and loving father of daughters and son in laws: Janet and Tommy Smith of Vacaville, Linda and Danny Bandy of Vacaville and Sharon and Johnny Martinez of Fremont, Ca. Doting grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Charles and Benny , both of Hutchinson, Ks., Travis of Pampa, Tx., Inez Cotter of Lake Bluff, Il and Jewel Cook of Brownsville, Tx. LeRoy was a member of the VFW, Masons and Eagles of Richmond, Ca. and First Baptist Church in Vacaville. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the South Pacific in the 145th Field Artillery Battalion C. He lived in Richmond from 1960 until 1986, when he moved to Vacaville. He retired from Air Reduction Pacific Company of Richmond, Ca. after 33 years of service. Mr. Johnston loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and crossword puzzles. The family invites you to attend funeral services on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1127 Davis Street, Vacaville, Pastor James Allen will officiate. VENABLE, TRUDIE ESTELLE Entered into rest March 3, 2003 in Carmichael at age 93 years. Born August 28, 1909 in Indianola, OK. Survived by her children Richard, Margaret Johnson, and Shirley Ashcraft, 24 grandchildren ,numerous great-grandchildren and 6 great- great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Winfred J., children Alma, Sue and Jay. Friends are invited to a funeral services on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:00 P.M. at SUNSET LAWN CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento (922-5833). Yoshi Imamoto
November 3 1897 - February 28 2003

IMAMOTO, YOSHI, her life spanned three centuries, passed away Friday, February 28, 2003 at the Asian Community Nursing Home in Sacramento, California at the age of 105. Born in Japan Wednesday, November 3, 1897, she came to America as a “picture bride” to a new husband, and a new land. She settled in the Bay Area and southern California. Because she was a Japanese schoolteacher, she was arrested by the F.B.I. at the onset of World War II. Mrs. Imamoto was one of 33 Japanese women detained. Upon her release she joined her children in Santa Anita Assembly Center, and was later sent to Jerome and Rohwer internment camps in Arkansas. Despite such injustices, Mrs. Imamoto bore no bitterness or self-pity. Her independent spirit was an inspiration to family and friends alike. She also expressed herself in skillful needlework, gardening, delicate Japanese painting, flower arrangements, cooking and other arts. She was a devout Christian. Survivors include: daughters Grace Noda of Davis, CA., Lily Matsuoka of Orange, CA, Marion Sakurai of Concord, CA. and Alice Takemoto of Kensington, MD. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Following a private service, Yoshi Imamoto was interred at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, Ca. alongside her husband, James Zenichi Imamoto. Contributions can be made in her name to Asian Community Center 7375 Park City Dr. Sacramento, Ca. 95831 or Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church 6929 Franklin Blvd. Sacramento, Ca. 95823 or Berkeley Methodist Church 1710 Carlton, Berkeley, Ca. 94703.

Arthur Owen
August 4 1922 - March 30 2003

Arthur Loyd Owen a Hayward, California resident entered into rest Sunday, March 30, 2003 in Hayward. Born in Russelville, Arkansas on August 21, 1922, he was 80 years of age. He completed the 8th grade and served in the U.S. Navy. He also enjoyed painting, cars and fishing.

Dearly beloved husband of Betty Jean Owen of 57 years. Loving father of Wilma Jean of San Jose, Lewis Dean of Hayward, Loyd Eugene of Grass Valley, and Arnold Lee of Hayward, California. Dear brother of Fayma of Minnesota, Ruby of Santa Cruz, California, Martha of Missouri, Rachel of Minnesota, Eltrie of Arkansas, Vivian of Arkansas, Mary of Minnesota, Myrtle of Arkansas, and Alfred Arnold of Washington. His sister Vida preceded him in death. Devoted grandfather of seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Mary Helen Traynor a Hayward resident entered into rest Saturday March 29, 2003 in San Jose, California. Born in Willets, California on October 25, 1910, she was 92 years of age. Mary was a Worthy matron of Eastern Star- 1950’s. She enjoyed crocheting, and traveling to Reno. She was a great friend and neighbor. Her dog Pepsi was her life. Her husband Benjamen Traynor preceded her in death.

Anne V. Jones of San Leandro passed away there March 9, 2003 at the age of 97. She was the widow of the late Henry Z. Jones and is survived by her son Henry Z. ("Hank") Jones, Jr. of San Diego, her daughter-in-law Bonnie Jones, her granddaughter Amanda Jones of Toluca Lake, and several nephews and nieces: Nancy Stone of Walnut Creek, Robert Tennyson of Menlo Park, Charles (Jiggs") Davis of Piedmont, Lyndon Ann ("Tinka") Davi of Folsom, Richard Abbot of Florida, Harold Almond of Pennsylvania, and Carolyn Neeper of New Mexico. Her memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 22nd at the First United Methodist Church, 1600 Bancroft Ave., San Leandro.

Johnny A. Esquibel a Patterson, California resident entered into rest February 4, 2003 in El Cerito, California. Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on December 30, 1938, he was 64 years of age. He was a resident of Hayward for 10 years and a former resident of Fremont for 19 years. He worked as a Union Corrugator Operator for 23 years. He loved the outdoors and camping with his family and friends. He was always working on his and other’s cars. He enjoyed helping others whenever he could.
Dearly beloved husband of Julia Esquibel for 37 years. Loving father of Carmen Esquibel of Patterson, Anthony Esquibel of Fremont and Juan Esquibel of Patterson. Dear brother of Sadie Lopez of San Lorenzo and Dolores Perez of San Leandro. Devoted grandfather of six grandchildren. His daughter Gloria Esquibel, son, Johnny Esquibel, Jr., sister Amelia Esquibel and brother, Marshall Esquibel preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2003 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1942. Chabot college graduate. Member of the Eden Garden Club, Y-Knott club, CRS Travelers and the Raqueteers Tennis Club. She was an usher at Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Among many other numerous clubs and social groups.
Dearly beloved wife of Leonard Protto for 60 years. Loving mother of Kim and Matt Duckworth of Pleasanton, California and Jim and Amy Protto of Estes Park, Colorado. Dear sister of Elizabeth Muckleroy of Brennam, Texas and Sturgeon Lanier of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Devoted grandmother of two grandchildren; Tamara and John Protto of Los Angeles, California and one great grandchild; Aliya Protto of Los Angeles, California.

Ho Lee Young
July 15 1920 - March 26 2003

Ho Lee Young, 82 passed away at her home in Castro Valley, California on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. She has been a resident of Castro Valley, California for the past 40 years. Dr. Young was born in Canton, China on July 15, 1920. She received a Ph.D. in Physiology from U.C. Berkeley in 1955. She then worked for NASA Ames Research Center investigating physiological effects of gravityless environments on humans for the manned space flight program. Later she worked as a Chief of Water Quality at the Environmental Protection Agency for Region IX, encompassing several western states, California, Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii and Guam. After retirement she volunteered at the Castro Valley Senior Center teaching English as a second language. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and collecting coins and stamps.
Dr. Ho Lee Young is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Wei Young of Castro Valley, California. She also survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Linda Young and Steve Sibener of Chicago, Illinois. She was the loving Popo of her two precious granddaughters, Leah and Leslie Sibener of Chicago, Illinois.

Wayne retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 20 years of service and from the U.S. Post Office after 20 years. He then worked for Washington Inventory Service for more than 10 years. Wayne loved his family and foster children numbering up to 40 through out their 58 years of marriage. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Dearly beloved husband of Ruth J. Ellis of 58 years. He was preceded in death by his sister Merna Carter and two brothers Russel and James Ellis.
