PATRICIA A. CHAMBERLAINE
ADELANTO - Patricia A. Chamberlaine, 71, passed away at her Adelanto home on June 6, 2001. Pat or "Mama Bear" as she was known by her employees was the city administrator/manager for the city of Adelanto for the better part of 16 years. Elected to her first City Council in 1970, Pat was recalled over the issue of the High Desert Casino, which ultimately proved to be a big boost to the Adelanto City economy. During her hiatus from government service she was founder and coeditor of the Adelanto Independent newspaper where she remained until she was asked to take the position of city administrator in 1980. Pat retired because of poor health in 1996. Mrs. Chamberlaine was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Lloyd and son Alan Lloyd. She is survived by a granddaughter Jenny Ann Chamberlaine and a grandson Ryan James McGowan both of Joshua Tree; adopted sister and best friend Mary L. Scarpa; nieces Barbara Scarpa-Coffey and husband Terry of Capetola, Jennifer J. Scarpa of Las Vegas, Nev.; nephew John R. Scarpa and wife Sharon of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Jeffery W. Scarpa and wife Joyce of Camarillo. Educated at St. Vincent's Academy in her hometown of Shreveport, La., she is still remembered by her many friends in Adelanto and the rest of the Victor Valley Community. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Kern Memorial Chapel, 14444 Seventh St. in Victorville. Pat supported many charities, so should you care to make a donation in her name, one of her favorites was the Adelanto Resource Center, in care of the Adelanto School District, which assists needy families with children. Kern Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

APPLE VALLEY - Beulah "Bobbie" Baker, 73, died June 5, 2001, at Desert Knolls in Victorville of respiratory failure. Born in Glendale she lived in Hesperia for seven years. She was a bartender for 30 years and was a Apple Valley Care resident for five years. She was a loving granny, mother and friend to many. She is survived by her daughters Carol Short and husband Jim of El Monte, Nancy Calandri of Orange County, Joyce Sorenson Baker and husband David Sorenson of Hesperia; granddaughters Denise Campbell of El Monte, Crystal Hovis of Hesperia, Gina, Loreen, Rosalee and Julia Calandri, all of Orange County; grandsons David Hovis and Robert Baker, both of Hesperia; great-granddaughters Jessica Short of El Monte and Tatum Hovis of Hesperia and one grandson in law, Mike Campbell of El Monte. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Desert View Memorial, 11500 Amargosa Road in Victorville, with burial immediately following at the same location. Desert View Memorial is handling arrangements.

APPLE VALLEY - David Henry Barker Jr., 76, of Apple Valley died at home June 16, 2001. Born in Grannis Park, Ark., he lived in the Victor Valley for 21 years. He loved his organic garden. He is survived by his wife Lois Barker of Apple Valley, daughters Darlene Perry of Mesa, Ariz., Jan Turner of Corona and JoNell D'Agostino and her husband Tony of Mesa; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Fern Barker of Redding; sister Elizabeth Raines of Cabazon; grandchildren Bobbie, Patrick and David, and great-granddaughter Amanda. There will be no services at his request, but donations may be made in his name to charity. Victor Valley Mortuary in Victorville is handling arrangements.

APPLE VALLEY - Margaret V. Cole, 80, died June 13, 2001, at Desert Valley Medical Center of lung disease. Born Jan. 31, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas, she lived in Apple Valley for 27 years. She was a homemaker, deaconess for several years at First Baptist Church, Pearl Harbor survivor, wife of Perry S. Cole, deceased in 1973, (a retired Air Force colonel). She was dedicated to her lord, church and family. She is pre-deceased by granddaughter Melissa Vincent Cole of Colorado. She is survived by daughter Ginger and her husband Patrick McConnell of Apple Valley; sons Jeff and his wife Mel Cole of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bob Cole of Bellville, Ill.; bothers Ed and Dick Jeffrey of Dallas, Texas; grandsons Kevin Cole of New York, N.Y., Mark Cole of Scottsdale, Ariz., Chris Cole of Baltimore, Maryland and David and Kristopher McConnell both of Apple Valley; granddaughter Courtney Flynn of Kansas City, Kan. He was a retired from Northrop after 25 years as a machinist, and a member of Apple Valley Country Club and Ascension Lutheran Church for 34 years. He is survived by his wife Lois of Apple Valley; sons Paul Kratofil of Oak Hills and Steven Kratofil of Apple Valley; brother Tony Kratofil of Van Nuys;; and four grandchildren Alex, Michael, Shawn and Brianne. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ascension Lutheran Church, 22130 Ottawa Road in Apple Valley with Pastor Daniel Hauschild officiating. died June 8, 2001, at the Apple Valley Care Center in Apple Valley. Born in Porterville, Ca., she lived in Apple Valley for 16 years. She was a service writer for Sears for more than 20 years in Vernon. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jerry March. She is survived by her son Jeff Hart of Apple Valley; granddaughters Christie Hart of Victorville and Carrie Gabler of Palmdale; great-grandchildren Ashely, Kristin, Maggie, Kayly, Joshua, Jeffrey, Joseph and Breanna.
