He was the owner of Jones Chicken Ranch in Lucerne Valley. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georgia "Pat," sons Danny, Johnnie and Chuck, all of Lucerne Valley; grandsons Danny Jr., Jeremy, Michael and Ely, all of Lucerne Valley, Jayson of Yucca Valley, Levi of California and Charles II; granddaughters Jennipher and Heather, both of Lucerne Valley; great-grandsons Matthew, Adam and Jessie, all of Lucerne Valley; great-granddaughter Jaycee of Lucerne Valley; twin brother Ralph of Pomona; brother Calvin of Dublin; sisters Alice Stevens and Eldora Tompkins, both of South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. OAK HILLS - Edward William French Sr. (to all of his grandchildren he was Poppy) passed away on June 15, 2001. He was 75 years old. He was born in Binghamton, New York, on May 22, 1926. At 2 years of age his family moved to Los Angeles. He lived there until he was 22 years old. He met Hester Boose in 1948 and they were married for 52 years. Ed French lived in Downey for 30 years and has lived in Oak Hills for 12 years. He worked for M&M Housemoving Company for 25 years and Almas International for 20 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife Hester French; his son Edward William French Jr. and daughter-in-law Karen; his daughter Cindy Egilske and son-in-law Joe; grandsons Jake French and Joe Egilske; granddaughters Jolie Fernandez, Nikki Aguiniga, Merrie French, Harmony Schott; great grandsons Joey and Derek Aguiniga, Justice French, Dylan Schott; great granddaughters Rylee Hernandez and Picabo French. He is also survived by his niece Georgia and nephew Ed Sherman, and many grand and great nieces and nephews. The rosary will be recited at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 7. p.m. on Monday. The gravesite service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Desert View Memorial Park. Desert View Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

MONTEQUE F. GARFIELD II
OAK HILLS - Monteque F. Garfield II, 47, died June 9, 2001, at Pettis Veterans Hospital in Riverside of cancer and diabetes. Born June 28, 1953 in Los Angeles, he lived in Oak Hills for 16 years. He was in the Operating Engineers Union, and was a heavy equipment operator in Ontario. He was involved in the San Bernardino County Search and Rescue and was a United States Army veteran of Viet Nam. He was a combat air support crewman and received 14 air medals with "valor," Supporting Special Forces (Green Beret) operations in combat. He is survived by his wife Mildred B. Garfield of Oak Hills; daughter Sarah N. Hauser of Oak Hills; sons Anthony W. Garfield of Hesperia and Kelly Gibson of Fort Carson, Colo.; granddaughters Sarah L. Garfield of Hesperia and Ashley M. Gibson of Fort Carson. Co.; grandsons Ethan K. and Levi M. Gibson both of Fort Carson, Co. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverside National Cemetery, Highway 215 at Van Buren in Riverside. Cremation will be held at same location. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any cancer society.

ORO GRANDE - Isabel Castillo Ramos (Chavela), 74, died June 22, 2001. Born in San Bernardino, she lived in Oro Grande for 46 years. She was a homemaker for her adult life. She was loved very much, and will be missed very much by many relatives and friends. She is survived by her daughters Irene Montenegro and Lucille Ramos, both of Oro Grande and Cecilia Ramos of Victorville; sons Joseph Ramos, and Edward and his wife Donna Ramos, all of Oro Grande; sisters Rosa Marquez and Lydia Bernal, both of San Bernardino and Esther Fabela of Colton; brother Albert Castillo of San Bernardino; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. PHELAN - James Joseph Foreman, 75, died at his Phelan home on June 17, 2001. Born in Glendale, he lived 13 years in Phelan. He was a former field rep for Aminol Signal Oil and Gas for 26 years. He enjoyed working with wood, gardening, was a loving husband and father, loved joking and was very humorous. He is survived by his wife Frances "Joanne" Foreman of Phelan; daughter Teresa I. Constanzo of Huntington Beach; sons Ronald J. and his wife Patricia L. of Huntington Beach, John R. and wife Debra A. of Vernal Utah and Randy L. of Adelanto; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born at Ontario, Canada, he lived in Phelan for 16 of his 42 years in California. He was preceded in death by his son Bob Rocheleau and his brother Percy Rocheleau. He worked at Vons Grocery Co. for 16 years, and he was retired at the age of 55. He was a truck driver in El Monte, was an active member of Hesperia Elks Lodge 2646, formerly Trustee of Elks Lodge 2646. Survivors include his wife Pat of Phelan; sons Gary of Yorba Linda, Terry of Rancho Santa Margarita, Randy of Chico and Kenny of Laguna Beach; daughter Susan Cheever of Phelan; sisters Anne Semande of Canada and Lucy Gagnier of Garden Grove; brothers Stan of Riverside and Lloyd of Huntington Beach; four daughters in law; one brother in law; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. VICTORVILLE - Patricia "Pat" Benedict McFee went home to be with her savior on June 9, 2001. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, she lived in Victorville for 50 years. Pat was a former employee of Laynes Dress Shop and most recently, a homemaker. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Apple Valley and a former member of the Four Square Church in Victorville. Pat's love of life was her greatest gift to her family and friends, and her laughter will surely be missed by all. Pat loved camping and fishing (only the cooking part); and in earlier years motorcycling riding. But mostly her joy was seeing and being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Grammie Pat. Pat leaves behind a loving husband, Ken McFee of Victorville; daughters Michele Long and her husband Charlie of Victorville and Jan Griffin and her husband Dana of Oregon; sons Kenny Benedict Sr. and his wife Gloria of Victorville, Scott Benedict of Orland, Steve Benedict and his wife Carol of Hesperia and stepson Shawn McFee of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandsons Jeff Solee and his wife Kristan of Victorville, Kenny Benedict Jr. and his wife Margaret of Lancaster and Dana Griffin Jr. of Kingman, Ariz.; step granddaughters Tamie Lawson of Moreno Valley and Monica of Arizona; step grandson Ramon of Victorville; great-granddaughters Sierra of Victorville; Ashryn, Karsyn and Gabriella of Lancaster; great-grandson Chase of Victorville; step great-grandsons Erick and Jonathan of Moreno Valley; and step grandchildren Anthony and Veronica of Arizona; sister Joan Barnes and her husband Bill of Orland and brother Charles Crago and his wife Carol of Corning. VICTORVILLE - James Oscar Gibbe, 72, died June 3, 2001, at Reche Canyon Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino. Born in Wisconsin, he lived in the Victor Valley for 43 years. He was a retired self-employed paint contractor and retired manager of a storage place. He also was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Victorville. He is survived by his wife Vi of Apple Valley; daughters Sharon Cope of Denison, Texas, and Treva Grett of Apple Valley; son Cecil of Avilla, Mo.; sisters Gladys Swingle of Nashville, Tenn., and Ester Perry of Modesto; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Bible Baptist Church at 12626 First Ave. in Victorville. ALARIC H. HEIDORN
VICTORVILLE -Alaric Herman Heidorn went home to be with his savior on June 4, 2001, after spending 10 days in the Highland Palms Health Care Center in Highlands. He was born in Petersburg, Ind., on May 5, 1916. He had lived in Victorville for the last five years. Mr. Heidorn retired as supervisor of the Electronics Department at the USMC in Barstow in 1971, after 30 years of service. In his earlier years, he was active with Boy Scouts and was an ordained deacon in the First Baptist Church of Barstow. He was the youngest son of Emeline and Henry D. Heidorn and brother to Leo Heidorn, Arnold Heidorn and Benjamin Heidorn. All proceeded him in death. Alaric loved to build and rebuild electronic equipment, especially radios. He could always be found at his work bench in the garage. His military career began in 1941 in the 749th Military Police Unit of the Army. He exited military service in 1946. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Fern K. Heidorn, his daughter Sandra K. Patterson, his son Gary L. Heidorn and his son Alan D. Heidorn. He leaves seven granddaughters, Tera Langford, Neely Heidorn, Amanda Patterson, Katy Patterson, Mary Patterson, Rachael Heidorn and Angela Heidorn. Graveside services were held at Victor Valley Memorial Park in Victorville on June 7, 2001.

She was a campus dispatcher at Long Beach State University for 14 years, and a volunteer worker at Victor Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by husband William W. of Victorville, sons William R. and (Melinda) Hilton of Santa Monica, Daniel R. Hilton of Victorville, daughter Diane and (Robert) Beam of Yucca Valley; sister Virginia Christensen of Kalamazoo, Mich; granddaughters Lori Abela of Yucca Valley and Rachel Reyes of Phoenix, Az., and great-grandson Brett Abela of Yucca Valley. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Kern Memorial Chapel, 14444 Seventh St. in Victorville with Robert R. Beam III officiating. Burial will be private.
