Bryce Blue
Dr. Bryce Blue, a longtime Ventura orthopaedic surgeon, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the home of family members as a result of Parkinson's disease. Bryce was born icon Jan. 13, 1921, in Tekamah, Neb. He spent his younger years in Nebraska before his family moved to the small community of Loma Linda, Calif. It was there that he met and married his bride of many years, Lorraine. Bryce attended the Loma Linda University School of Medicine, graduating in 1946. After completing his years in the Navy, Bryce and Lorraine decided it was time to find a place to settle down and raise their family. One beautiful California day, they ventured up the coast in search of the town that would be their new home. They fell in love with the little beach community of Ventura, finding the people and the climate perfect and decided this was the place. Ventura has been lucky enough to have him ever since. As the third partner, Bryce enjoyed the orthopaedic group of Drs. Clark and Lambert in their small office in downtown Ventura. As the practice grew and the list of doctors got longer and longer, they founded the Ventura Orthopaedic Group. Bryce loved practicing orthopaedics and has set many broken bones during his 40 years of practice. In fact, sometimes it was believed that there wasn't a bone in Ventura that he hadn't set at one time or another. His friendly face was a familiar sight in the halls of Community Memorial Hospital for many years, Bryce was loved and respected among both patients and colleagues. It was once said by a nurse at CMH that she always remembered Dr. Blue because he would often stay and help the nurses clean up after surgery. He was a very generous man and spent countless hours at Ventura County General Hospital treating patients who were unable to pay. His sons remember many "missed dinners" at home but they also remember the example of a man, their Dad, who showed them the importance of giving. Although Bryce had a very busy schedule, he always found time to enjoy his lifelong passion for woodworking. He was an excellent craftsman and built everything from houses to go-carts and ski boats with his sons. It was a well-known fact that he was one of the most accomplished cabinetmakers in town. The hum of his saw would often be heard into the late evening hours. Bryce found many years of happiness with his second wife, Diana. They resided in Camarillo as Bryce eased into retirement. Bryce cared for Diana throughout a serious illness that took her life in 1990. A few years later, Bryce was fortunate enough to find love again when he was reunited with his daughter-in-law's mother, Dorothy, at a family Thanksgiving dinner. They were wed in 1994. After several years together, Dorothy passed away in the year 2000. Dr. Blue leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, humor and respect as well as family and friends who will miss him very much. Bryce is survived by his sons and their families, Dick and Terry of Ventura, Mike and Robin of Hawaii and Jeff and Melissa of San Luis Obispo. Bryce will also be missed by his five grandchildren, Jamie, Rick, Julie, Ashley and Bryce. Bryce is also survived by his brothers, Delwin and Irvin; and sisters, Myrna and Aleta. Lorraine Blue predeceased Bryce in the year 2000. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the West Chapel at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park. Everyone is welcome. In memory of Bryce, donations to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation would be appreciated. Charles Carroll Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Bryce.

The Day God Called You Home
God looked around his garden,
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down
Upon this Earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never,
Get well on Earth again.
He saw that the road
Was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, "Peace be Thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
