Born and raised in Sweden, Kerstin attended Hunter College in New York and then moved to Asia after her first marriage. Over the next 15 years, she lived in Bangkok, Manila, Tokyo and Taipei. During her years there, she raised three children, mastered seven languages, traveled through many countries, and made several lifelong friends. Kerstin moved to Marin with her children in 1973, and remained here after deciding that it was "simply the most beautiful place on earth." She worked in travel and hotel sales in San Francisco, serving for many years as a sales manager at the Miyako Hotel. She fell in love with and married Jerry King in 1985, and shared countless good times and tender moments with him throughout their years together in favorite spots in the Bay Area, Hawaii, Europe and especially the deck of their Novato home. Kerstin utterly enjoyed her three children, Karin, Eva, and David, and her four grandchildren, Laurel, Ryan, Kristina, and Eric. She treasured both her adventures and her quiet times with all of them. She also loved her occasional visits to her native Sweden and visits with her brother Anders Rignell. Kerstin loved to walk the beaches and trails of Marin, always with time for a good picnic. She loved to travel, to laugh and to tell stories; she loved books, art, and music; and she loved good food, good wine, and good weather. But above all, she loved the company and conversation of her friends and her family. She brought warmth, spirit and zest to all that she did and to all of those she knew and loved. We will be forever grateful for the times that we had and the gifts that she shared, and will always remember the way her smile could light up a room.
