Of Mill Valley passed away June 4, 2003. Born August 13, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio. The beloved wife of the late Richard Bowen. Survived by her brother George Hellwig and sister Ann Ferguson both of Dayton, Ohio. Surviving sons, William and Patrick Bowen of Mill Valley, and daughters, Jeffree Lee Argento of Sonoma and Daly Ann Bowen of Tahoe City, CA. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mary was an active member of the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club and the Mill Valley Seniors. Private Services will be held for the family members only. Mary Loos
It is with great love and sadness that the family of Mary Loos announces her passing on June 12, 2003, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Mary was a longtime resident of Greenbrae, CA. She earned a Master's degree at Sonoma State University and taught ESL students at the College of Marin. She enjoyed swimming, scuba diving, traveling and spending time with her family. Mary was the loving wife of Dr. Larry Loos, mother of Brad and Mark, mother-in-law of Kim and Lynne, and grandmother of Alexandria. She will be sorely missed. Memorial Services will be held on June 21, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Mill Valley. Donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Willie Mae Pace
Passed away in San Pablo June 11, 2003 formally of Mill Valley. Wife of the late Cleo Pace. Loving mother of Vidette McBride and Kelvin C. Pace. Mother in law of Charles McBride, dear sister of Virdie Mae Crook, Luther Jones, and Lawrence Starnes, loving grandmother of Jamila McBride. Step mother of Walteen Pace and Elsie Mae McCarter. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A native of Leesburg, Texas, age 80. Kayde (Valenzano) Rieker
It is with great love and sadness that the family announces Kayde M. Valenzano Rieker, 41, of Roscoe, IL, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 in St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She was born October 4, 1961 in San Francisco, CA, the beloved daughter of Al and Doris Dullum Valenzano. Kayde attended San Rafael High School and graduated with honors in 1980. She went on to attend Nursing School at Fresno State University for one year and then moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area to be closer to her parents in Marin. Kayde completed nursing school at San Francisco State University and graduated May of 1984, an honor student with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation Kayde joined the United States Army as an officer and served as a registered nurse on a surgical floor at Letterman Hospital at the San Francisco Presidio. She moved to Colorado to attend a Critical Care course. It is there that she met her husband, and they married in June of 1991. Kayde knew at a very young age that she wanted to be a nurse so that she could help people. Kayde loved nursing and she pursued critical care nursing in various places including Missouri, Oklahoma, and Washington D.C. In 1994 she worked at Beloit Memorial Hospital in emergency nursing. Illness forced her to leave nursing. She continued to actively raise their two adoring sons. Kayde very much enjoyed the Stateline Newcomer's, Roscoe PTO and as well as several social circles. Survivors include her devoted husband of 12 years, John Rieker; two loving sons, Nicholas 8 and Jacob 6; her adoring sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Rick Warner of Petaluma, CA; loving brother, Roger Valenzano of San Rafael, CA; mother-in-law, Shirley Rieker of Toulon, IL; she also leaves a wide circle of thoughtful friends and relatives. Although Kayde's time on this earth was brief she said she did everything in life she wanted to do, she only wished she could do more of it. Kayde's delight in life was her family and friends; she was especially committed to her two boys. She was selfless to everyone who knew her, and an immensely loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her devoted husband. She was predeceased by her parents. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003 in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main St., Roscoe, IL, with Donna Inman officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Osceola Grove Cemetery, Osceola Grove, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Beloit Memorial Foundation Children's play therapy project. Dried arrangements will also be appreciated and will be distributed among friends.

Richard Lee "Rick" Teeters
A Memorial Gathering will be held for Richard Lee "Rick" Teeters on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 6 PM at the Ukiah Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Mary Martha Room. Richard passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2003. Born January 12, 1955 in Saint Johns, MIchigan, he graduated from San Rafael High School and owned his own Auto Glass Shop in Ukiah. He was a former Mendocino County Deputy Sheriff in Covelo and Ukiah, EMT, basketball coach, race car driver who loved camping, hiking and fishing and his volunteer work for several charity events. He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his daughters and family. Rick is survived by his daughters Heidi, Jennifer and Francesca Teeters, his fiancee June Wilson, brothers Robert and John Teeters, sister Kim Boatner, by his mother Joan Arnold and his father Owen Teeters. Memorial contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund are preferred. The Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

William John Young "Jack"
William John Young, known as Jack by all who loved him, was born April 1, 1916 and died after a short illness on June 11, 2003. Jack was born in San Francisco and raised with his brother Bob in Los Angeles by his widowed mother, Charlotte Wilke. Soon after attending UCLA, Jack met and married Mary McLachlan and their union gave them three sons. Jack and Mary moved to Fairfax in 1956 and Jack retired from Chevron after 35 years. Jack was a Marine during WWII, Eagle Scout, an avid golfer and a great lover of books. Jack is survived by his wife Mary, his three sons, Bill, Mike and Dave and their wives. He was a grandfather of nine and great grandfather of six. This generous and gentle man will be sorely missed by all who knew him. There will be a gathering to remember and honor Jack, by the members of his family, at his home in Fairfax on June 22nd.

Joyce Aileen D'Ambra
June 3, 1931 - June 10, 2003
Joyce died at home on June 10, 2003 at the age of 72. Originally from Oklahoma, she recently resided in Lincoln, CA, after living for more than 60 years in San Rafael. Joyce is survived by her husband Ray; children Bruce (Granite Bay), Denise (Vancouver, WA), Steve (San Francisco), Cyndie (Novato) and Terry (Truckee); eleven grandchildren; brother Art Watkins; sisters-in-law Bev Watkins and Shirley Watkins; aunt Maxine Profit and many friends. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Joyce's life to be held June 21, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church in San Rafael. Jonathan David Limont
Born July 23, 1953 in Springfield MA. Died June 13, 2003 in Snohomish, WA of ALS. David was a graduate of Marin Catholic High School, Menlo College and attended the University of San Francisco. He worked as an engineer for 26 years in the Seattle area. David was good, kind and loving and he cared deeply for others. He had a wonderful enthusiasm for life and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Anna, their children, Paul, Rob and Margy, by his brothers Peter and Paul Jr., and his sister, Connor.

Mary E. Lyman
Mary Elizabeth Acker Lyman died peacefully Thursday, June 12, 2003 at Villa Marin in San Rafael. She was 92; the widow of the late John Lyman, vice president of Tenneco Chemicals. Born in Ossining, New York, Mary Elizabeth attended Sarah Lawrence College and studied at Studio House in Washington DC. She was an artist and sister of Marjorie Phillips co-founder of the Phillips Collection in Washington DC. She has had five one-man shows and four group shows in Washington DC, as well shows in San Francisco and San Rafael. Mary Elizabeth served on the board of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and on the board of the San Francisco Art Institute. She is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Partridge of Kilauea, Pauai, Hawaii and Eleanor Lyman of Bolinas, California, and her granddaughter, Sigrid Swedenborg Weiss of Sonoma, California. A later Memorial Service is planned. Donations in her name to Hospice of Marin or a charity of your choice.

David Norman Lytle
Passed away June 3, 2003, near Jenner, CA. Born April 25, 1931 in San Francisco to Katharine and Hugh Lytle. He moved to Hawaii where he attended Hanahauoli, Punahou School and witnessed the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor from the bluffs overlooking the base near Honolulu. Following the death of his mother in 1945, he lived in Chico and graduated from Chico High School. He later graduated from General Motors Institute near Flint, MIchigan. He entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and graduated as an ensign from the U.S. Naval Submarine School at New Haven, Conn., and saw action off the coast of Korea and service in Japan. After leaving the U.S. Navy due to the onset of Type 1 diabetes, he relocated to the Bay Area where he became an electronics engineer. He was an early pioneer in the development of computer test equipment during the 1960s and a co-founder of Zehntel, originally of Berkeley. During the 1970s, he worked at Singer Business Machines in the East Bay and later at Merganthaler Linotype on Long Island, New York. He was one of the lead engineers in the historic project to migrate the New York Daily News from hot type to cold type. In 1978, he relocated back to the Bay Area where he worked as an independent consultant on hardware and software issues and continued to develop test machinery for silicone chips through technical Instruments. He was married to Barbara Toffelmier in 1960. Their son, Douglas Lytle, lives in Prague, Czech Republic, with his wife Renata and David Lytle's grandchildren, Catherine and William. Following the death of Barbara Lytle in 1992, he remarried Margaret Joan Browning Suggs in 1997. He and Margaret took many trips during their retirement, including Ireland, the South Seas and Europe. Margaret preceded David in death in 2002. David Lytle was an avid supporter of the San Francisco Symphony and the Mill Valley Chamber Music Society. He will be remembered for his spirit, generosity, love of music and intellectual curiosity in all fields. He leaves a wide circle of adoring friends and loving family. Arrangements are by Neptune Society of Northern CA in Santa Rosa. Scattering at sea will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the American Diabetes Association or any research institution engaged in the cure and treatment of diabetes.

Penelopie "Penny" Pedroli
Passed away May 3, 2003 in San Rafael. Dear mother of Kathy Casagrande and mother-in-law of Carlo Casagrande. Also survived by three grandsons and three great granddaughters. Carrie Meroe Ward
Carrie "Sue" Ward died peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2003 in San Rafael at the age of 95. She moved to San Rafael six years ago and has lived at Drake Terrace the past three years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lt. Col. USAF Retired John Ward, Ph.D. Carrie was born in Almeria, Nebraska, October 21, 1907 on her parents homestead. She received her teaching credential at Hastings Teacher College, Nebraska and her B.A. at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She began her teaching career in a one room school house near her birthplace, where she rode her horse five miles each way from the family home in Taylor, Nebraska. She continued her teaching career in Taylor, Nebraska; Greenpark, Japan and Lafayette, Indiana. She established homes in many locations -- Ashiya and Greenpark, Japan, Texas, Colorado, Indiana, Mississippi and several locations in Nebraska -- while her husband served in the Air Force as a Superintendent of Schools. She is survived by her daughter, Dody Mertz, San Rafael, California, two grandsons and their families, Bob, Stacy, Kevin, Caroline and David Mertz, Placerville, California and John, Victoria, Landen, Morgan, Hudsen and Reagan Mertz, Steamboat Springs, Colorado and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Presidio National Cemetery, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Avenue, Corte Madera, CA 94925 or a charity of your choice. Joyce Aileen D'Ambra
June 3, 1931 - June 10, 2003

Gregory J. Girolami
Age 47, passed away Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003 peacefully without pain at their home in Rio Nido CA in the arms of his Life Partner of 15 years Gene Tygielski, his parents Ann and Jerry Girolami of Loomis CA with his dog Skipper at his side. He is also survived by his brother Jeffery from San Diego CA and numerous other loving friends and relatives who were with him during his battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Greg, a San Francisco native was the long time business owner of Greg's of Larkspur, a landmark barbershop in historic Larkspur. A Memorial Service will be held at their home: 15316 Mt. Sis Arndt
Point Reyes Station resident Sis Arndt died at home Friday, May 30, 2003. Born on October 20, 1919, in Butte, Montana, Adeline "Sis" Rodoni moved with her Swiss-Italian family to Point Reyes Station when she was six years old. Sis was active in local politics and environmental issues throughout her life and was prominent in Point Reyes history. She provided caretaking for the elderly and infirm, long before public services were available to local residents. Next to baseball, her favorite pastime was monitoring the local creeks and salmon spawning habitats. She also loved gardening, and grew enough vegetables to serve many families. Sis was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Lefty" Arndt; brother, Pat Rodoni; a sister, Eureka Rodoni, who died at six months of age; and sister-in-law, Regina Rodoni. She is survived by her son, Otto "Pat" Arndt of Point Reyes Station; daughter, Adeline "Sissy" Dreesmann of Los Gatos; brothers, Fred Rodoni and Rod Rodoni; and sister-in-law, Nola Rodoni, all of Point Reyes Station; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Sis's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Love Field, near the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and Hwy. 1, Point Reyes Station. The family has suggested that any memorial contributions be made to the Inverness Garden Club Scholarship Fund, Box 724, Inverness, CA 94937; or to Sister Mary Jane Mast, SHF Pastoral Ministry, 23233 Lyons Avenue, Santa Clarita, CA 91321.
