Doreen Lui-Birebent
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Helena Catholic Church for Doreen Lui-Birebent, who died Oct. 7 in St. Helena. She was 38.
Born at Hahn Air Base, Germany, and reared and educated in Fairfield and Sacramento, Mrs. Lui-Birebent had been a St. Helena resident for the past five years.
She is survived by her husband, Pierre Birebent; a daughter, Isabelle Birebent; a son Paul Birebent; four brothers and sisters and her parents, Jeone and Anita Lui.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, October 12, at Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa. Graveside services following the Mass will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Helena.
Shirley ‘Ike’ Prouty
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at the St. Helena Catholic Church for Shirley “Ike” Raphael Prouty, a lifelong resident of St. Helena.
Mr. Prouty, whose grandparents came to St. Helena prior to 1871, was born in 1914 and was an auto mechanic, working at a garage on Main Street for 10 years before opening his own shop on Allyn Avenue. He was an avid reader who enjoyed studying health, nutrition and history.
He is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Connie and John Cookus of Santa Rosa and Connie and David Casida of Carson City, Nev.; three grandnephews Matthew D. Jones of Des Palines, Ill., Christopher P. Jones of Chicago, Ill., and Matthew Casida of Carson City, Nev.; and two great-grandnephews: Zachary D. Jones and Tristan J. Casida.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert H. Prouty.
Visitation will be at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 990 Vintage Avenue, St. Helena, Thursday, Oct. 11, from 4-8 p.m. interment will be at the St. Helena Cemetery.

Bernice L. Squier
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Signs Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church, Yountville, for Bernice Leona Squier, who died Oct. 1 at a local nursing home. She was 95.
Born to Elmer Ellsworth and Nancy Marie Squier of Pine Island, Minn., she graduated with a masters degree from Pacific Union College and taught for 39 years for the Southeastern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. She retired to Yountville 19 years ago.
Miss Squier is survived by three sisters, Joyce Adams of Calistoga and Marjorie Squier and Ardith Emde of St. Helena. She was predeceased by three sisters, Myrtle, Gladys and Grace, and a brother, Theo.
Inurnment will be at St. Helena Cemetery.

Vivian N. Whipple
Memorial services were held Wednesday at the chapel at the Meadows in Napa for Vivian Naomi Whipple, who died Oct. 3 at Queen of the Valley Hospital. She was 81.
A native of Kansas and a graduate of Northwest Christian College, Mrs. Whipple was a librarian for many years. She and her husband were members of Napa Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, and had lived in the Napa Valley for eight years, some of those at Silverado Orchards in St. Helena.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, George, she is survived by two sons, David B. Whipple of Cotati and John M. Whipple of Stockton; and two grandchildren.

Zelma Irene Fallon
A memorial service will be held Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Pacific Union College Youth Chapel for Zelma Irene Fallon who died Sept. 22. She was 88.
Born in Sebastopol, Calif. to Melvin and Marguerite Kauffman, Mrs. Fallon graduated from Pacific Union College in 1939 and taught grade school in St. Helena for 13 years, teaching home economics, sewing, tailoring and biology. Mrs. Fallon received her Masters of Science in Biology after her retirement.
Mrs. Fallon is survived by her husband, Joseph Greenleaf Fallon; two daughters, Jeannette and JoAnne; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fallon is preceded in death by her son, John.

Beverly Holden
Memorial services will be held Oct. 17 for Beverly Holden who died Oct. 11. She was 73.
Mrs. Holden was born Aug. 9, 1929 to Don C. and Bernice Berg of American Fork Utah who were third generation sheep herders. Married to Mr. Norman Lee Holden in 1949, the couple resided in Glasgow Mo. until 1957 when they moved to Sonoma Calif. In 1973, Mrs. Holden and her family moved to St. Helena where she worked for Drs. Darter, Wood and Query until her retirement in 1978.
Mrs. Holden is survived by a dauther, Kathleen Ackman of St. Helena; a son, Roger Holden of American Fork, Utah; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holden was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Lee Holden in 1966.

Annette Caroline Perry
Annette Caroline Perry of Calistoga passed away on September 20, 2002 at the age of 80. She was born December 18, 1921 in San Francisco, CA, and lived in Medford, OR and San Francisco, CA. She was a fifth-generation granddaughter of Commodore John Barry of historic naval fame.
She met George Patrick Perry and they were married in January, 1941.
They lived in various cities in the Peninsula before moving to Calistoga in December, 1975. Her husband passed away in November, 1982. She was the mother of one daughter, Barry Ann Stephenson, who passed away in December, 2000.
She is survived by her three grandchildren, Lisa Foster of Vancouver, WA; Glenn Lee Stephenson, Jr. of Richmond, CA and Sean Michael Stephenson of Pittsburg, CA; she also has one great-grandson, Joey Ortiz of Vancouver, WA.
In keeping with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Donations of your choice to the Calistoga Creative Living, Holiday Sharing Program, Calistoga Respite Center and the Community Presbyterian Church were her wishes.

Lavera M. Caiocca
Private family services were held for Lavera Marcey Caiocca, who died Oct. 6 at St. Helena Hospital. She was 90.
Mrs. Caiocca was born in Weir, Kansas, to Oscar and Josephine Gray Jones. In 1963, she moved to the Napa Valley from San Francisco. She met her late husband, Julius, in St. Helena and they became known in the county for their love of dancing.
Mrs. Caiocca, a member of The Silverado Chapter O.E.S #189, is survived by a daughter, Rosalie Marsha Harris, of Sonora; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcey and Jack Smith, of Calistoga; grandchildren Martin Varrel-man, Cheryl Smith and Jason Smith; and a great-grandson, Kolby Smith.

Robert W. Keller
Graveside service will be held Friday, October 19, at 1 p.m. at the St. Helena Cemetery for Robert William Keller, who died Oct. 13 at St. Helena Hospital. He was 88.
Mr. Keller, a native of Antelope, Canada, was the son of Thomas and Gertrude Keller. He was a logger for 35 years in various northwest states until he became self-employed as a speciality advertising salesman for Newton Manufacturing.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Sawyer Booska Keller of Angwin. In addition he is survived by Robert Keller Jr., William Keller, Leilani Norman, Betty Lou Baylink, Barbara Thompson and Steven Booska; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his five siblings.

George K. Perkins
George K. Perkins, a contractor in Pope Valley and Lake County for many years, died Oct. 6 at St. Helena Hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Perkins, a native of Kansas City, Kan., is survived by his wife, Bertha, of Sacramento; a daughter, Rhonda Kay Gaskamp and brothers Shiral Perkins and Robert Perkins. At Mr. Perkins’ request, no services were held.

Edith P. Rowton
A graveside service was held Oct. 15 at the St. Helena Cemetery for Napa Valley native Edith Porta Balconi Rowton, who died Oct. 10 in Oklahoma City. She was 88.
The granddaughter of Italian immigrants who homesteaded on Spring Mountain, Mrs. Rowton’s family had numerous ties to the Upper Valley. Her father, George J. Porta, helped build the original St. Helena High School as well as many stone bridges in the area and the Christian Brothers Winery, now the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.
During World War II, she worked at the Army Arsenal in Benicia, and lived in South San Francisco, Martinez and Seattle before returning to St. Helena in 1960 to care for her uncle, Emil Traverso. She also worked for the Christian Brothers Retreat House and the Martini Winery. She moved to Oklahoma in 1982.
Mrs. Rowton is survived by nieces Cheryl Leever Huffman, Jacqueline Rees, Nancy Frankoni and Jeanette Bullock, and nephews Carl Porta and George Porta.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Balconi; her second husband, Ray Rowton; her brothers, George Porta and Theodore Porta; and a sister, Marguerite Porta Leever.
