Ann Rule, 90

CARLSBAD - Ann M. Rule, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Carlsbad.

Born Sept. 24, 1909, in Grangemouth, Scotland, she lived in Carlsbad. She was a member and former president of Pacific Palisades Women's Club and a member of the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Rule was preceded in death by her husband, William Rule, in 1976. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James M. and Joanne Kinghorn of Carlsbad; grandchildren Lynn Blanche, Scott Kinghorn and Joanne Remillard; and great-grandchildren Jeffrey Remillard, Lauren Blanche, Amanda Remillard, Rory Blanche and Gregory Remillard.

A private family celebration of life will be held. A private cremation with Burial at sea is planned.

Clyde Shields, 93

FALLBROOK - Clyde Emerson Shields, 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Brawley.

Born Nov. 26, 1906, in Illinois, he lived in Fallbrook for 24 years. He was a civil engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation in the Yuma, Ariz., area, and worked as a consultant for the New York State Power Authority. He was project engineer for the North San Joaquin Division of the State Water Project in Patterson and division engineer of design and construction for the state of California, retiring in 1973. He earned a bachelor's degree at the California Institute of Technology in 1929. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Fallbrook and served as Arizona State Grand Master. He served as master of the Fallbrook Masonic Lodge No. 317 in 1984 and was awarded the Hiram Award in 1991. He was a member of the Fallbrook Chapter of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron.

Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel J. Shields, in 1978. He is survived by his wife, Edna L. Shields of Fallbrook; sons and daughter-in-law Clyde and Jo Shields of Brawley and Robert Shields of Sacramento; daughter and son-in-law Wilma and Elmer Pearson of Clearwater, Fla.; brother Morton Shields of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters Betty McKinley of Escondido, Ann Shields of Spring Valley and Catherine Firth of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel, with the Fallbrook Masonic Lodge No. 317 F & AM and the International Order of Odd Fellows officiating. Inurnment will take place at the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Fallbrook.

The family suggests memorial donations to your local Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge, Eastern Star, or the First Presbyterian Church of Brawley, PO Box 1276, Brawley, CA 92227.

Jo Babore, 77

VALLEY CENTER - Jo Mildred Babore, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital in Poway.

Born Dec. 16, 1922, in Brackettville, Texas, she lived in Valley Center for 24 years. She was the owner/operator of several restaurants including Ricci's Deli, retiring after 35 years.

Mrs. Babore was preceded in death by one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Rinaldo Babore of Valley Center; mother Mable Parham of Brackettville; sons and daughters-in-law Monroe and Carol Hermes of Morristown, Tenn., Herman and Dawn Payne of Parump, Nev., and Richard and Sandra Payne of Utopia, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Sissy Parham of Uvalde, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law Ruth Dennis of Rusk, Texas and Nell Rose and Ray Smallwood of Brackettville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Valley Center Cemetery District. Burial will follow.

Lyman Haunschild, 89

OCEANSIDE - Lyman C. Haunschild, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Nov. 3, 1910, in Waumadee, Wis., he lived in Oceanside for 20 years. He worked for the Department of Social Services for the state of Wisconsin and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, serving as an elder. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Oceans Community Association.

Mr. Haunschild was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Haunschild, in 1966; and his daughter, Jeanne Ann Haunschild, in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Margaret Haunschild of Oceanside; sons Gerald Haunschild of Neenah, Wis., and Robert Haunschild of Oceanside; stepson James Vincent of San Francisco; sister Audri Allred of Sequim, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, with Dr. Duane Walker officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church General Fund, 2001 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054.

Gerald Tullius, 77

SAN MARCOS - Gerald Louis Tullius, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at San Diego Hospice.

Born Nov. 10, 1922, in Norman, Okla., he lived in San Marcos for 35 years and previously lived in Vista and Chula Vista. He was a computer technician for National Cash Register for 46 years and served as a torpedoman's mate 1st class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree at St. Mark's.

Mr. Tullius is survived by his wife of 53 years, Agnes M. Tullius of San Marcos; sons Paul L. Tullius of Escondido and Stephen J. Tullius of San Marcos; daughters Dena M. Deaudine of Westlake Village, Inez A. Robbins of Quincy and Noma S. Bates of Lake Forest; brother William Tullius of Chico; sister Betty Kacy of Santa Monica; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Boudoin officiating. Burial will follow at San Marcos Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Robert Register, 72

RAMONA - Robert "Bob" S. Register, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Poway.

Born Aug. 22, 1927, in Hartford, Ala., he lived in Ramona for 27 years. He was a self-employed contractor for 30 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1947 until 1952. He was a member of the Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3783.

Mr. Register is survived by his son, Patrick Collins of Ramona; daughter Kelley Aratin of Palm Springs; brother Charles Register of Bonifay, Fla.; sisters Rachel Davis, Louise Hill and Jean Smith, all of Bonifay; four grandchildren; and former wife Joni Donahoo of Ramona.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A committal service and Burial will follow at Ramona Nuevo Memory Gardens.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 7297 Ronson Road, Suite H, San Diego, CA 92111-1411.

Richard Netka, 56

TEMECULA - Richard C. Netka, 56, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center.

Born April 25, 1943, in Los Angeles, he lived in Temecula for one year. He attended high school in Seattle and was a dispatcher for a trucking company in Carlsbad for the past five months. He served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968 and was a member of the Temecula Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mr. Netka is survived by his wife, Geri Netka of Temecula; father John Netka of Temecula; son Jason Netka of Kirkland, Wash.; daughters Jennifer Keil of La Quinta and Kelsey Netka of Temecula; and one grandchild.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Temecula Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. A private cremation is planned.

Lois Collins, 86

HOMELAND - Lois Lorene Collins, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home in Homeland.

Born Aug. 26, 1914, in Bunch, Okla., she lived in Homeland for 20 years. She was a homemaker for 70 years and a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Perris.

Mrs. Collins is survived by her sons, Rayburn Collins of Fountain Valley and Ronald Collins of Homeland; daughters Lettie Davis of Huntington Beach, Thelma Wylie of Simi Valley, Eve Wiseman of Sun Valley and Vera Tarkington of Bakersfield; two brothers in Oklahoma; one sister in Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for noon Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. Burial will take place at Perris Valley Cemetery.

Stanley Pulver, 89
RANCHO BERNARDO - Stanley Holmes Pulver, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000.

Born Oct. 24, 1910, in Washington, D.C., he lived in Rancho Bernardo and San Diego for 25 years. He was an advertising executive for 30 years before retiring. He was a 1931 graduate of Columbia University.

Mr. Pulver was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Edith Horrigan Pulver, in 1980; and his wife, Virginia Ehrenberg Pulver, in July 1999. He is survived by his son, Douglas S. Pulver of San Diego; daughter Carol P. Lovett of Hendersonville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No service is planned.

Margery Holben, 79

OCEANSIDE - Margery Moore Holben, 79, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, of cancer, at San Diego Hospice.

Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Roanoke, Va., she lived in Oceanside for 39 years. She was a homemaker and served in the Women's Air Force as a service pilot during World War II. She also served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, was a Girl Scout leader, a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the Military Order of World Wars.

Mrs. Holben was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Holben, in January 1999. She is survived by her son, Stephen L. Holben of Vacaville; daughters Jane M. Hadjimichael of West Haven, Conn., and Ann L. Zuhr of Gilroy; and grandchildren Theodore J. Hadjimichael, Thaphne A. Hadjimichael, Elizabeth A. Zuhr and Kathryn M. Zuhr.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Wire Mountain Chapel, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base, with the chaplain of the Military Order of the World Wars officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea by U.S. Navy aircraft at a later date.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Armed Services YMCA, Box 555028, Bldg. 1671, Camp Pendleton, CA 92055-5028; or the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92128.

Elaine Beneke, 79

ESCONDIDO - Elaine Campbell Beneke, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Escondido.

Born April 28, 1920, in Oto, Iowa, she lived in Escondido for 25 years. She was a secretary for Daley & Heft law office for 20 years and was a member of the Neighborhood Church for 25 years.

Mrs. Beneke was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Campbell, in 1963. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Larry Beneke of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Lorie Beneke of Forest, Va.; sister Jane Shebal of Escondido; and grandchildren Evan and Jessica Beneke, both of Escondido and Josh, Tyler and Brandi Fitzgerald, all of Forest.

Viewing will beheld from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Neighborhood Church in Escondido. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Neighborhood Church Missionary Fund, 1001 Country Club Lane, Escondido, CA 92026.

Frank Dorsey, 83

CARLSBAD - Frank Thomas Dorsey, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home.

Born Nov. 18, 1916, in California, he lived in Carlsbad for 24 years. He was a traffic superintendent for the city of Los Angeles before retiring and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Dorsey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosa Lee Dorsey of Carlsbad; son James Dorsey of Torrance; daughters Nancy Wells of Carlsbad and Tina Bodieoga of Hanford; brother Ralph Dorsey of Reno, Nev.; sisters Mary Monroe of Carlsbad and Mickey MacDonald of Palos Verdes; grandchildren Matthew, Camille, Claire, Scott, April, Eric, Mandy, Ryan, all of California; and great-grandchildren Christopher, Chase, Hannah, Nicole, Madelyn, Zachery and Noah, all of California.

Inurnment will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with military honors.
