Elva Scott, 91

OCEANSIDE - Elva A. Scott, 91, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Nov. 15, 1908, in Greenwood, Ark., she lived in Oceanside for 58 years. She was a member of Service Memorial Southern Baptist Church.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Alva J. Scott, in 1996. She is survived by her son, Thomas Scott of Pico Rivera; brother Jack Peninger of Idaho; grandchildren Michael Cash and Joel Cash, both of Ridgecrest, Stephen Scott of Baltimore and Julie Prosa of Van Nuys; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for both Elva and Alva will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Service Memorial Southern Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ben Ferrell officiating.

Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Eleanor Funkhouser, 90

FALLBROOK - Eleanor Burke Funkhouser, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born Jan. 25, 1910, in Los Angeles, she lived in Fallbrook for 16 years. She was a bookkeeper for Los Angeles County and a member of the Christian Science Church.

Mrs. Funkhouser was preceded in death by her son, Michael Ross, in 1957.

A private family memorial service was held. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary handled arrangements.

Andrea Wall-Gambel, 23

ATLANTA, Ga. - Andrea Wall-Gambel, 23, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, from complications of pregnancy, in Atlanta.

Born Aug. 1, 1976, in San Diego, she lived in Encinitas until December. She was a certified nurse assistant and had worked for TERI, Inc. in Oceanside and Pasta Bravo in Encinitas. She attended San Dieguito High School and graduated from John Muir School in 1994.

Mrs. Wall-Gambel is survived by her husband of one month, Joseph C. Gambel of Kennesaw, Ga.; daughter Jasmine Andrea Gambel, born Jan. 13, 2000, and died Jan. 23, 2000; parents Sidney and Diana Wall of San Diego and Helen and Ron Van Boxtel of Encinitas; sisters Bethany and Kristin Van Boxtel of Encinitas; grandparents John and Grace Curlee of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Mary Stockton of Bend, Ore., and Elizabeth Van Boxtel of El Cajon; and extended family.

A memorial service will be held April 19, in La Jolla.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Liver Foundation, 4452 Park Blvd., Suite 102, San Diego, CA 92116; or the Children's Hospital of San Diego, 3020 Children's Way, San Diego, CA 92123.

John Reynolds, 69

WILDOMAR - John Leon Reynolds, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at his home.

Born Feb. 22, 1930, in Portland, Maine, he lived in Wildomar for 12 years. He was a fire marshal for the city of Corona for 10 years and served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He was the inventor of Reynolds Rings used by nuclear power plants and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Elsinore, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fireman's Association in Corona.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his daughter, Debra Munoz of Wildomar; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 2, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1.

Gordon Neighbours, 78

SUN CITY - Gordon Lee Neighbours, 78, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.

Born April 8, 1921, in Tecumseh, Okla., he lived in Sun City for seven years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years in communications.

Mr. Neighbours is survived by his wife, Ethel Neighbours of Sun City; son Lee Neighbours of Quartzsite, Ariz.; daughter Fonda Hinkle of Sacramento; brother Al Neighbours of Spearfish, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m., also at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory, with the Rev. Troy Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to Sun City Hospice, PO Box 686, Sun City, CA 92586.

Woodrow Vanderheiden, 81
SAN MARCOS - Woodrow Vanderheiden, 81, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home in San Marcos.

Born Sept. 3, 1918, in Arkansas, he lived in San Marcos for more than 40 years. He was the greenskeeper at the former Circle R Golf & Resort for more than 27 years.

Mr. Vanderheiden is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nera Vanderheiden of San Marcos; sons James Vanderheiden, Woody Vanderheiden and David Vanderheiden, all of Escondido; daughters Linda McClenaghan-Berti of Escondido and Roxanne Vanderheiden of San Marcos; sister Viola Duncan of Hanford; grandchildren Christopher and Daniel McClenaghan, Sara, Brian, Samantha, Michael and Erik Vanderheiden, all of Escondido; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido.

The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Theresa Lodico, 84

SAN JOSE - Theresa Lodico, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in San Jose.

Born March 24, 1915, in Canton, Ohio, she lived in San Jose for 1 1/2 years. She was the owner of a delicatessen.

Mrs. Lodico was preceded in death by her son, David Lodico. She is survived by her son, Thomas Lodico of Hawaii; daughters Cecelia Lodico of San Jose, Louise Lodico of San Diego and Christine Sharp of Oceanside; sister Anna Volzer of Canton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 3, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Maria Gonzalez, 42

OCEANSIDE - Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, 42, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born May 29, 1957, in Tijuana, Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 35 years.

Mrs. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her father, Miguel Gonzalez. She is survived by her mother, Guadalupe Gonzalez of Oceanside; sons Kenneth Jr. Wallis, Raymond Contreras and Victor Patino, all of Oceanside; daughter Angela Patino of Oceanside; brothers Miguel Gonzalez and Esequiel Gonzalez, both of Oceanside, Humberto Gonzalez and Tino Gonzalez, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Tony Gonzales of Santa Ana; sisters Esperanza Moreno, Margarita Armador, Juana Gonzalez, Rosa Rogue, Gloria Perez, Maria Gonzalez and Jackie Deleon, all of Oceanside.

Viewing was held and a rosary recited on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today, Feb. 3, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.

Marian Anderson, 91

VISTA - Marian Kathleen Anderson, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Vista.

Born Aug. 26, 1908, in Chicago, she lived in Vista for three years. She was a civil service stenographer for the California Horse Racing Board for 12 years.

Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by eight brothers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lucile Nevis and Leonard J. Nevis, M.D., of San Diego; and grandchildren Walter W. Nevis of Truckee, Lawrence E. Nevis of San Raphael and Kathy A. Nevis of Kentfield.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. Burial will follow.

The family suggests memorial donations to Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association Research Center, 3686 Fourth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Marjorie Raymond, 77

ESCONDIDO - Marjorie Brown Raymond, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born July 4, 1922, in Los Angeles, she lived in Escondido. She attended Mount St. Mary's College and completed graduate work at the University of Southern California. She did social work with children and was a member of the Assistance League of Southern California.

Mrs. Raymond was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis R. Brown, in 1965. She is survived by her son, Keith Raymond Jr. of Los Angeles; daughters Katherine Powell of San Marcos, Patricia Lichter of Albany; brother Donald M. Brown of Los Angeles; sister Virginia O'Brien of Newport Beach; and six grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, Feb. 5, at St. Brendan Church in Los Angeles.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Los Angeles, 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036.

Ella Brown, 85

ESCONDIDO - Ella Labee Brown, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Villa Del Rey in Escondido.

Born March 27, 1914, in Lott, Texas, she lived in Escondido for 26 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her sons, Don Brown of Texas, Ken Brown of Escondido and Larry Brown of Redondo Beach; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private Burial will take place at Inglewood Park Cemetery.

Ruth Thames, 80

ESCONDIDO - Ruth Virginia Thames, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home.

Born Jan. 27, 1920, in Santa Barbara, she lived in Escondido for 60 years. She worked at the former Escondido Laundry and Dry Cleaning, owned by her family, for 45 years.

Mrs. Thames is survived by her daughters, Barbara McKinzie and Charlene Sipes, both of Escondido, Janet Wyatt of Florida and Kathryn Card of Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A private inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Thornton Thornhill, 91

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Thornton Richard Thornhill, 91, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at a local convalescent home.

Born Jan. 1, 1909, in Wakita, Okla., he lived at Lake San Marcos for 25 years. He was the principal auditor for the city of Los Angeles for 27 years and served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a 60-year member of the Masons in Wakita.

Mr. Thornhill is survived by his wife of 11 years, Lois L. Thornhill of Lake San Marcos; stepson Jim Bonawitz of Billings, Mont.; stepdaughters Linda Loendorf of Dillon, Mont., and Elaine Sielinsky of Billings; sister-in-law Maureen Thornhill of Harrah, Okla.; and niece Sharon Harris of Harrah.

A graveside service will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 4, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1, with the Rev. Jim Dale officiating. Burial will follow.
