Robert Schmid, 88

OCEANSIDE - Robert Otto Schmid, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Dec. 1, 1911, in St. Louis, he lived in Oceanside for 16 years. He was the owner of Ivy's Restaurant in Hawthorn for 25 years and served with the SeaBees in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Schmid is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ivy L. Schmid of Oceanside; daughter Carol Masner of Culver City; sister Arlynn Geers of Virginia; and grandchildren Cindy Masner of Lakewood and Bob Moore of Palmdale.

No formal service is planned. A private family inurnment will take place.

Siiri Borg, 47

OCEANSIDE - Siiri A. Borg, 47, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born April 17, 1952, in Grinsby, England, she lived in Oceanside for eight years. She worked for El Establo Restaurant.

Mrs. Borg is survived by her husband of seven years, Jim Borg of Glendale; daughter Mercedes Tesar of Vista; and brother Martin Olgeirsson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at Eternal Hills Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Anobile officiating.

Paul Tynan, 20

ESCONDIDO - Paul S. Tynan II, 20, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in San Diego.

Born Dec. 28, 1979, in Poway, he lived in Escondido for 15 years. He attended ___ High School.

Paul is survived by his mother and father, Susie R. and Paul S. Tynan of Escondido; brother Justin J. Tynan of Escondido; and sister Cherie R. Tynan of Escondido.

A private cremation is planned with ashes to be scattered at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10753 Fuerte Drive in La Mesa.

Zinaida Supe, 86

ESCONDIDO - Zinaida Supe, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, of kidney failure, at her home.

Born Aug. 2, 1913, in Baltinava, Latvia, she lived in Escondido for five years. She immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1950.

Mrs. Supe was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Edward R. Beard; grandson-in-law Scott Archer; and great-granddaughter Ashley Beard. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Edmund Stevens of Los Angeles and Richard and Lea Ann Supe of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughters and son-in-law Irene Lee of Riverside and Margaret Beard and Bill Hunter of Valley Center; brother Aleksanders Burmeisters of Germany; stepsisters Helena Glowa and Erika Hooper of Australia; and grandchildren Adam, Greg, Emily, Andrea and Lydia Supe, Debbie Capelo, Cathy Brown, Janet Amaro, Renee Hegland, Eugene Lee, Sandi Groepper, Jim Beard, Crissy Cahill, Brandon, Adam, Brianna and Grayson Capelo, Christina Brown, Christopher Amaro, Bradee Hegland, Patrick and Samuel Groepper, Jeremy Archer-Cahill and Alexa, Dillon and Christian Cahill.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held in March at the home of Margaret Beard and Bill Hunter in Valley Center.

The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth Natwick, 88

VISTA - Elizabeth Natwick, 88, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Vista.

Born July 19, 1911, in Houston, Texas, she lived in Vista for 52 years. She was the art director for her company, Robinhood Wood Products for 20 years.

Mrs. Natwick was preceded in death by her husband, Frank James Natwick, in 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Lela Keenan of Alexandria, Va.

No formal service is scheduled. A private cremation will be held with cremains scattered at sea.

Shirley Probert, 71

CARLSBAD - Shirley Geraldine Probert, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at San Diego Hospice.

Born July 26, 1928, in California, she lived in Carlsbad for six years. She was a reference librarian for the Carlsbad Public Library.

Mrs. Probert is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William and Michelle Probert of Elk Grove and Gregory and Louise Probert of San Marino; daughter Dianne Probert of Studio City; brother Raymond Gardner of Toledo, Ore.; and grandchildren Cassy Williams of Long Beach, Jennifer, Gregory and Nicole Probert, all of San Marino and Andrea Probert of Elk Grove.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at First Church of Religious Science in Vista, with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Valhalla Cemetery in North Hollywood.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society for Ovarian Cancer Research, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92128.

Gertrude Benton, 70

POWAY - Gertrude "Trudy" Benton, 70, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, of cancer, at Villa Monte Vista in Poway.

Born Dec. 11, 1929, in Boston, she lived in Poway for eight years. She worked for the Civil Service at NAS North Island, retiring in September 1991. She worked for Poway Unified School District and was a traffic school instructor.

Mrs. Benton is survived by her son, Raymond Cash of San Francisco; daughters Teresa Mills and Judy Cash, both of Poway; brother Stephen O'Neil of Boston; four sisters of Boston; and grandchildren Jesse Mills and Rusty Mills.

No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

Homer Rose, 68

MURRIETA - Homer Rose Jr., 68, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2000, of lung cancer, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.

Born on Oct. 29, 1931, in Ozark, Ill., he lived in Temecula for 10 years. He was an owner of Preferred Landscape for 36 years.

Mr. Rose is survived by his wife, Betty Rose of Temecula; son Mark Rose of Buena Park; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Skipper Massey of Temecula; brother and sister-in-law Howard and Ginger Rose of Folsom; sisters and brothers-in-law Irene and Bill Minick of Laguna Hills, Mary "Mug" Williams of El Cajon, Darlene Mann, Judy and Bob Elliott of East Alton, Ill.; and grandchildren Landaden Massey and Cole Massey.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at New Community Lutheran Church in Temecula.

Charles Brotherton, 80

SUN CITY - Charles William Brotherton, 80, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, of cardio-respiratory arrest, at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center in Riverside.

Born on May 13, 1919, in Marceline, Mo., he lived in Sun City for one year and in Lake Elsinore for 34 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1945 and owned Charlie's Landscaping in Lake Elsinore for 35 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Brotherton is survived by his wife, Marguerite Brotherton of Sun City; son Milton Russell of Sun City; brothers Gerald Brotherton of Albuquerque, N.M., and Harold Brotherton of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A private inurnment is planned at Riverside National Cemetery.

Birdean Chandler, 87

SUN CITY - Birdean Beaver Chandler, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.

Born on Feb. 9, 1912, in Oklahoma City, she lived in Sun City for 17 years. She was a secretary for Dependable Trucking in Capistrano for 32 years.

Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband, Don Chandler of Sun City; son Steven Chandler Black of Dallas; daughter Caroline Ladner of Sacramento; brothers Floyd Beaver of Lindsey and Jack Beaver of Hacienda Heights; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. A graveside service and Burial will take place at 12:15 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Vincent Cozzi, 71
RANCHO BERNARDO - Vincent Cozzi, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000.

Born Jan. 29, 1929, in Modugno, Italy, he lived in Rancho Bernardo and San Diego for 27 years. He was the owner of Vince's Villa, a restaurant in Waukesha, Wis., for 40 years before retiring. He was a member of the Italian Social Club of Escondido, Westwood Social Club of Rancho Bernardo and a maitre d' at Vacation Village in San Diego.

Mr. Cozzi is survived by his wife, Marion R. Cozzi of Rancho Bernardo; sons Nicholas Vito Cozzi of Greenville, N.C., Vincent James Cozzi of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Mario Gene Cozzi of Valley Center; brothers Vito Cozzi of Bari, Italy and Mario Cozzi of Modugno; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 6, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at San Rafael Parish of Rancho Bernardo. interment will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.

The family suggests memorial donations to St. Vincent De Paul, 1550 Market St., San Diego, CA 92101; or the American Heart Association, PO Box 3625, San Diego, CA 92163-1625.

Ralph Stephenson, 92

SAN MARCOS - Ralph Wesley Stephenson, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at a local convalescent home.

Born Jan. 20, 1908, in St. Louis, Mo., he lived in San Diego County for 82 years, 30 of those years in San Marcos. He was a fireman for the city of San Diego for 20 years.

Mr. Stephenson was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Stephenson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Thelma R. Stephenson of San Marcos; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law Dale and Priscilla Hansen of Lakewood; stepdaughter Suzanne Stephenson of San Diego; and grandchildren Colleen Peterson, Maureen Stephenson, Michael Stephenson, John Stephenson and Robert Stephenson, all of San Diego, and Steven Hansen and Jeffrey Hansen, both of Lakewood.

A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Virginia Douglas, 70

OCEANSIDE - Virginia "Gi Gi" Lee Douglas, 70, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, of respiratory failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, at Scripps Hospital Encinitas.

Born Feb. 28, 1929, in Dallas, she lived in Oceanside for 30 years. She was a secretary, homemaker, Texas Kilgore Rangerette and part owner of a building contracting business.

Mrs. Douglas was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Douglas, in 1963. She is survived by her son, John A. Douglas of Oceanside; daughters and son-in-law Toni Douglas Porley, Sue Ellen and Ed Jester, and Paula A. Brookwell, all of Oceanside; brother Harold Andrews; and grandchildren Shannan, Jason, Ashley, Jonathan, Jan and Jordan; and great-granddaughter Kellie Lee Ware.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 5, at Grace Chapel of the Coast in Oceanside, with Lonnie Honeycutt officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow at Virginia's home at 518 Capistrano Drive in Oceanside.

The family suggests memorial donations to Grace Chapel of the Coast, 102 N. Freeman St., Oceanside, CA 92054.
