OCEANSIDE - Dellsie Berg Benedict, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation.
Born Jan. 27, 1913, she lived in Oceanside for 44 years. She was a teacher for the Oceanside Unified School District.
Mrs. Benedict is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ray Benedict of Oceanside; daughters Lora Marie Benedict of Hawthorne and Catherine L. Rosenau of Oceanside; brothers and sister-in-law Rudy Berg of Midland, Texas, and Wesley and June Berg of San Jose; sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara and Julius Carriker of Portland, Ore., and Jane and Harry Hansen of Fresno; grandchildren Richard A. and Michele Call of Las Vegas; and great-grandchildren Nicole and Brittney Call.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Eternal Hills Chapel, with the Rev. Dick Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the North Coast, 5421 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Howard Hash, 36
ESCONDIDO - Howard Thomas Hash, 36, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in San Diego.
Born Sept. 14, 1964, in Bellingham, Wash., he lived in the Escondido area for 33 years. He was a chef at Vista Valley Country Club. He attended Orange Glen Christian school and graduated from Fundamental Baptist Christian School. He coached NCYSA soccer and was a tennis, softball and chess player and had been a league bowler.
Mr. Hash was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leonard Blackwood, in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Hash of San Marcos; mother Edye Marin of Escondido and Joe Hash of Valley Center; sons Timothy Hash, Daniel Calvert and Gary Calvert; daughters Rebekah Hash, Amy Calvert and Kristina Hash; brothers and sisters-in-law Mark Hash, Keith and Evelia Hash, Daniel Marin, Eli Marin and Seth Marin; grandparents Mary Blackwood of Escondido and Tom and Effie Hash of Escondido; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at North County Church of Christ in Escondido. A funeral service will follow at noon at the church, with the Rev. Kent Hekel of Calvary Chapel in Rancho Bernardo officiating. Burial will take place after the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Bruce Campbell, 27
VISTA - Bruce Allen Campbell, 27, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in Vista.
Born Dec. 29, 1972, in Oceanside, he lived in Vista for 27 years. He worked for Easterling Construction.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Shannon Trujillo of Porterville; mother Janice M. Houston of Temecula; stepfather Teodocio A. Valdovinos of Vista; daughter Audrey Lynn Campbell of Santee; brothers James L. Campbell and Ted A. Valdovinos, both of Vista; and sisters Michelle Thompson, Desiree Valdovinos, Blanca Valdovinos, Agricola Valdovinos and Janice Valdovinos, all of Vista.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park Memory Gardens.

Julian Rush, 85
SAN MARCOS - Julian R. Rush, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in San Marcos.
Born Oct. 9, 1915, in Sorrento, Fla., he lived in San Marcos for four years. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Rush was preceded in death by his infant son. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rhea Rush of San Marcos; sons Steven Rush of Vista, Rick Rush of Cedar City, Utah, David Rush of Valley Center, Jay Rush of Orem, Utah, Joel Rush of Centerville, Utah, Michael Rush of El Cajon and Mark Rush of Piqua, Ohio; daughters Candyce Rush of La Jolla, Star Rush Piley of Alpikne and Juli Rush Blanco of Moraga; brother Denton Oliver Rush of Yulee, Fla.; 37 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grossmont Ward Building in San Diego. Burial will take place on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Springville Cemetery in Springville, Utah.

Robert Webb, 72
OCEANSIDE - Robert Clinton Webb, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at UCSD Medical Center.
Born May 10, 1928, in Pattonsburg, Mo., he lived in Oceanside for 32 years. He was a canal assistant for the city of Escondido for 10 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 15, in Winston, Mo.
Mr. Webb is survived by his wife, Virginia Webb of Oceanside; sons Jerry Webb of Bend, Ore., and Raymond Hosley of Ramona; daughters Hazel Webb and Cheryl McMahon, both of Oceanside; brothers Jack Webb of Gilman City, Mo., and Gary Webb of Liberty, Mo.; sisters Elsie Harmon of Stillwell, Kan., Dorothy Parker of Liberty, Donna Wilson of Trenton, Mo., Carolyn Allen of Gallatin, Mo., and Janie Plowman of Altamont, Mo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the mortuary. interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Thelma Lemon, 93
FALLBROOK - Thelma R. Lemon, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Sept. 9, 1907, in Seattle, she lived in Fallbrook for 48 years. She was a legal secretary before retiring and was a member of the Fallbrook Women's Club, serving as president from 1965 to 1966. She was a life member of Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary, a life member of Fallbrook Angel Society, a life member of Fallbrook Historical Society and a member of Fallbrook Friends of the Library. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fallbrook.
Mrs. Lemon was preceded in death by her husband, Ray DeWitt Lemon. She is survived by two nieces and one nephew.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned with interment to take place on a date to be determined at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Ian Campbell, 80
ESCONDIDO - Ian Campbell, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his home.
Born May 5, 1920, in Dundee, Scotland, he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He owned Palomar Lawn & Garden Service for 25 years and served in the Royal air force during World War II.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Campbell, in 1985. He is survived by his stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Katheryn and Roy Garlow-Taylor of Valley Center and Claudia Keithley and Cynthia and John H. Cosper, all of Escondido; and stepgrandchildren John K. Crenshaw of Folsom and Colleen Crenshaw of Scottsdale, Ariz.
A private family service with Burial is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Dennis Scriven, 61
POWAY - Dennis E. Scriven, 61, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Villa Pomerado Convalescent Hospital.
Born July 24, 1939, in Oregon, he lived in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Ramona. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1960 and worked in drywall and in the oil fields in Wyoming. He enjoyed horse racing camping, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Scriven is survived by his sons, Mark Scriven of Ramona and Tony Scriven and George Scriven; two daughters; several brothers and sisters; and eight grandchildren.
His ashes will be buried at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.

Bettie Warner, 75
VISTA - Bettie G. Warner, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Woodland Hills Care Home.
Born Aug. 22, 1925, in Chicago, she lived in Vista for one year. She was an office worker for the civil service for 20 years before retiring.
Mrs. Warner was preceded in death by her husband, Willard D. Warner, in 1978. She is survived by her son, John S. Warner of San Diego.
A private cremation is planned and her ashes will be interred at sea by the family.

Chester Erickson, 81
FALLBROOK - Chester D. Erickson, 81, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born April 11, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa, he lived in Fallbrook for 58 years. He worked for Markel and Johnson and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Erickson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Erickson of Fallbrook; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Sue Erickson of Fallbrook; daughter Christine Schuller of Fallbrook; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Murray Howell, 74
ESCONDIDO - Murray Courtney Howell, 74, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.
Born July 13, 1926, in Escondido, he lived in Escondido for 74 years. He was a systems operator for Olivehain Municipal Water District before retiring in 1996.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ilva Howell of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Mark Courtney Howell of San Marcos and Gary Merritt and Patti Howell of Escondido; stepsons and daughters-in-law Peter and Maryann Porter of San Diego, Eugene J. and Carolyn Porter of Garden Grove and Timothy G. and Lynn Porter of Mission Viejo; sister Eleanor Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren Ken Wagner of Escondido, Jana Guin of Moreno Valley and Chanell Howell of Escondido; and great-granddaughter Ashelee Marie Howell.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Susan Osborne officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Elizabeth Rodgers, 98
ESCONDIDO - Elizabeth Adeline Rodgers, 98, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Sept. 23, 1902, in Aplin, Ark., she lived in Escondido for 56 years. She was a homemaker for 72 years and enjoyed needlework, gardening, homemaking and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence N. Rodgers, in 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Neal and Sharon Rodgers of Gig Harbor, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Melba and Harley Muldrow of La Grande, Ore., and Wanda and Eugene Dent of Escondido; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 3, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, with the Rev. Richard Huls officiating. interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Walter Teske, 86
ESCONDIDO - Walter E. Teske, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Escondido.
Born July 13, 1917, in Delmont, S.D., he lived in Orange for the last 40 years. He worked in general sales before retiring.
Mr. Teske is survived by his sister, Irene Robinson of Escondido; and nephew Lowell Baw and Peggy Richter Teske of La Habra.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. His cremains will be scattered at sea.

Frances De La Pena, 63
ESCONDIDO - Frances Bernice De La Pena, 63, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Escondido.
Born May 20, 1937, in San Diego, she lived in Escondido for 55 years. She was an interpreter for the county of San Diego for 20 years.
Mrs. De La Pena is survived by her husband of 39 years, Alfonso De La Pena of Escondido; daughters Joanna Navarro, Julia Ann Bautista, Miranda Victoria Macliz, Ophelia Macliz, Frances Bernice De La Pena, Alicia Maria Ramirez, Stella De La Pena, Marcella De La Pena, Rosemarie De La Pena and Nina Michelle De La Pena, all of Escondido; son Michael Patrick Macliz of Escondido; brothers Luie Nuno of Stanwood, Wash., and Albert De La Pena of Escondido; sisters Irene Zamora of Kerman, Anita Felix of Oceanside and Ophelia Tactay of Sweet Home, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held and a rosary recited on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Jan. 3, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

James Battle, 85
VISTA - James Andrew Battle Jr., 85, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Evergreen Chalet in Vista.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Pittsburgh, he lived in Vista for 11 years. he was a manager for Carnation milk for 39 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Francis Young at Heart.
Mr. Battle is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary L. Battle of Vista; stepson Tom Davis of Woodland Hills; sons James A. Battle II of Lake Hills, Texas, Lawrence Battle of Laguna Niguel, Kevin Battle of Wrightwood, Keith Battle of Escondido and Danny Battle of Pomona; daughter Catherine Nasont of West Covina; stepdaughters Michelle Lord of Santa Clara, Marianne Cordeiro of Huntington Beach and Cheryl Davis of Wishon; brothers Edward Battle, Daniel Battle and Michael Battle, all of Pittsburgh; sisters Monica Barry and Mae Wheeler, both of Pittsburgh; and 17 grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista. A memorial Mass will be recited at 10 a.m., following the recitation of the rosary, at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights.

William Luney, 92
ESCONDIDO - William Luney, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000.
Born Oct. 16, 1908, in Colorado, he lived in Escondido for 27 years. He worked for the Metropolitan Water District before retiring on Oct. 30, 1975. He served as a private in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the United Methodist Church and past president of the Sunland Rotary Club.
Mr. Luney is survived by his wife of 24 years, Billie "Yolanda" Luney of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Richard Luney of Benicia and Jim and Terry Luney of Granada Hills; daughter Elva Lewis of Palmdale; and grandson Billy Luney.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

Gwendolyn Linn, 74
OCEANSIDE - Gwendolyn Linn, 74, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 17, 1926, in Green Valley, Ill., she lived in Oceanside for 10 years. She was a homemaker for 40 years and was instrumental in creating the Festival of Lights FOLEPI's Forest. She was a golfer and a member of the Oceanside and San Diego County Women's Golf Association. She was a wedding and memorial coordinator at the San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Linn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert Linn of Oceanside; son Gregg Linn of Lake Forest; daughter and son-in-law Valerie (Linn) and Lawrence Miller III of Peoria, Ill.; and grandchildren Lawrence Miller IV, Jennifer Miller and Robert Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 3, at San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lori Leopold officiating. Inurnment will take place at a future date in Peoria, with the Rev. Dr. John Stanley officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church, 5570 Old Ranch Road, Oceanside, CA 92057-5612.
