RAMONA - Clement Albert "Al" Botner, 83, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, from a massive heart attack.
Born Aug. 19, 1917, in Minneapolis, he lived in Ramona for 30 years. He had been a brick mason for 30 years and was a member of the Brick Layers Union in Los Angeles. He enjoyed studying sciences, especially geology and was an avid reader.
Mr. Botner is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Botner of Ramona; sons Bruce Botner of Ramona and Allan Botner of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law Sonia and James Wilcox of Las Vegas; two nieces; and one nephew.
Viewing is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Bonham Bros & Lee Ramona Chapel. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Ramona Nuevo Memory Gardens with the Rev. Bill Baker of the Ramona Lutheran Church officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Nadean Majeski, 93
ENCINITAS - Nadean Majeski, 93, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at her home.
Born Nov. 19, 1907, in Fairbury, Neb., she lived in Encinitas for 32 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Majeski was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Majeski. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law James E. and Nancy Majeski of Carlsbad, Raymond L. and Florence Majeski of Oceanside, David J. and Helen Majeski of Bensenville, Ill., and D. Dennis and Jeanne Majeski of Spring, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 13 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to the start of rosary at 7 p.m. today, June 10, at Encinitas Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment icon will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.

Etta Porterfield, 90
ESCONDIDO - Etta G. Porterfield 90, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001.
Born June 11, 1910, in Whiting, Iowa, she lived in Escondido for 28 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Porterfield is survived by her sons, Robert Porterfield of Mexico and Richard Porterfield of Irvine; and numerous grandchildren.
Graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Charles Weltzheimer, 94
SAN DIEGO - Charles E. Weltzheimer, 94, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Casa de las Campanas.
Born March 12, 1907, in Ohio, he lived in San Diego for 14 years. He was a retired teacher from Prescott High School. He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church of Poway, the Masonic Order for 73 years, the Kiwanis Club and Quiet Birds.
Mr. Weltzheimer is survived by his wife of four years Florence Weltzheimer of San Diego; daughters Gretchen Holden of Manhattan, Kan., and Kristin Weltzheimer of Ossining, N.Y.; brother William Weltzheimer of Columbus, Ohio; and grandson Zachary Holden.
A private cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. June 18, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway.
Telophase Cremation Society is handling arrangements.

Beatrix Johnson, 87
OCEANSIDE - Beatrix M. Cox Johnson, 87, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at her daughter's home of congestive heart failure.
Born Nov. 4, 1913, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, she lived in Oceanside for 28 years. She had been a homemaker and attended business college and began a career after the death of her husband. She retired in 1985 as a telephone operator for Scripps Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Burton S. Johnson, on Aug. 20, 1965; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Burton and Anne Johnson of Oceanside and Clinton and Susan Johnson of Leucadia; daughter Madonna Bingham of Oceanside; nieces Linda and Vonda Sifford; sister-in-law Beverly Cox of Tehachapi; grandchildren Joseph, Kirk, Keith, Graig, Paige, Blake, Scott and Chris; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A family celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 15, at her daughter's home. Her cremains will be combined with her husband's and scattered at sea.
The family suggests memorial donations to a charity of choice.

Donald Chaffee, 82
SUN CITY - Donald Martin Chaffee, 82, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Queen of Angels in Napa.
Born Aug. 13, 1918, in Onalaska, Wash., he lived in Sun City for 21 years. He was a chief refining engineer for Union Oil Company of California for 39 years. He graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle as a chemical engineer. He was on the Mt. San Jacinto foundation board and the Menifee Valley Medical Hospital foundation. He was a past lieutenant governor of Kiwanas International and past distinguished president of Kiwanas of Sun City.
Mr. Chaffee is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lou Chaffee of Hemet; son Donald Chaffee Jr. of Richland, Wash.; daughters Francine Christian, Megan Michaels and Linda Young, all of Napa; brothers Ernest Chaffee of Washington, and Richard Chaffee of California; sister Betty Jo Radelet of Portland, Ore.; stepson James Olsen of Davis and Carol Stober of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Church of Today with Casey Gryba officiating. A scattering at sea is planned.

William White, 89
VALLEY CENTER - William "Whitey" Eldon White, 89, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Escondido.
Born March 27, 1912, in Shell City, Mo., he lived in Valley Center for 55 years. He was a ranch foreman at Sycamore Ranch.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his sons, William Eldon Jr. and Lawrence Clinton White. He is survived by sons Bill White, Steve White and Dale White, all of Escondido, Jack White of Valley Center and Jim White of Ramona; daughters Barbara Hooten of Valley Center and Kathy Dunning of Althol, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 13, at McLeod Mortuary. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Valley Center Cemetery. Burial will follow at 11 a.m.

Delores Donlin, 70
ESCONDIDO - Delores Elaine Donlin, 70, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at a local convalescent home.
Born Nov. 6, 1930, in South Sioux, City, Neb., she lived in Escondido for 35 years. She was a quality control inspector for Singer-Kearfot/GEC Marconi Electronics for 20 years.
Mrs. Donlin is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Jack and Susan Donlin of Escondido and James and Cathy Donlin of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Joyce Hawkinson of Lakeland, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Les Thurk of Gulley, Minn.; and grandchildren Jason and wife Jacquie Donlin, Joseph Donlin and Joshuah Donlin.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Young officiating. A private cremation is planned with inurnment at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.

Curtis Hartley, 45
MIRA MESA - Curtis L. Hartley, 45, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 20, 1956, in Henderson, Nev., he lived in Mira Mesa for 11 years. He was a custodian for the San Diego City School System for the past 14 years.
Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Hartley, in 1997. He is survived by his companion, Karen Brodecki of Mira Mesa; mother Marba and stepfather Roy La Barrer of Arlee, Mont.; father L.E. and stepmother Dorothy Hartley of Cedar City, Utah; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Darrell Jones of Rancho Penasquitos; and brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Jean Hartley of Escondido.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Dave McCament, a family friend, officiating. Burial will be private.

Paul Sherwood Sr., 81
RANCHO BERNARDO - Paul T. Sherwood Sr., 81, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Poway.
Born Nov. 5, 1919, in Nutley, N.J., he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 16 years. He was a corporate real estate executive and had worked for Singer Co.
Mr. Sherwood is survived by his wife, Barbara Sherwood of San Diego; son and daughter-in-law Paul T. and Diane Sherwood Jr. of Diamond Bar; stepdaughter and husband Karen and Michael Howard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and brother and sister-in-law Charles A. and Dorothy Sherwood of Bedford, Mass.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway with the Revs. Joseph L. Finnerty and Larry Briske officiating. A private inurnment will be at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.

Naomi Youngberg, 99
ALBANY, Ore. - Naomi B. Youngberg, 99, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at her home.
Born Jan. 16, 1902, in Monroe, Wash., she was a former resident of Vista. She worked as a buyer for Rhodes Bros. in Tacoma, Wash., and retired in 1960. She had a small geranium business in Vista and grew and sold geranium seeds. She attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Tacoma and Albany, and attended the Community Church of Vista.
Mrs. Youngberg was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred A. Youngberg on Aug. 4, 1992; her parents; brother Robert Ball; and sister Bethel Rowley. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothea Artinian of Monmouth, Ore.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Gratreak officiating. Interment icon will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Frank Sarro, 76
ESCONDIDO - Frank Sarro, 76, died Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Born Aug. 27, 1924, in Spokane, Wash., he lived in Escondido and Vista since 1927. He had been a lumber yard foreman and retired on Aug. 27, 1997, from Pine Tree Lumber Co. after 51 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Company B of the 172nd Engineer Combat Battalion as a paratrooper, bridge builder and engineer.
Mr. Sarro is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marie A. Sarro of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Ronald J. and Roxanne Sarro of San Marcos; daughters and son-in-law Sherri A. Sarro of Escondido, Christina M. and Anthony Franklin of Vista and Francine J. Sarro of Escondido; brother James Sarro of Vista; sisters Barbara Vincent and Annie Knapp, both of Vista; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Vista Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Don Metcalf officiating. Interment icon will take place at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Andrew Zinniger, 88
ENCINITAS - Andrew Zinniger, 88, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Born Oct. 18, 1912, in Omer, Mich., he lived in Encinitas for 55 years. He retired in 1978 from San Dieguito Union High School District. Before working for the school district he had his own cement masonry business. He was one of the founding members of St. John's Catholic Church. He had been a coach for Little League.
Mr. Zinniger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Zinniger of Encinitas; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Mary Zinniger of Torrence and Thomas and Lisa Zinniger of San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Virginia and Patrick Clarke of Oceanside, Mary and Richard Shell of Oceanside and Joan and Ernie Southwell of Vista; brother Lou Zinniger of Oceanside; sister and brother-in-law Margaret and George Shipp of Murrieta; grandchildren Andy, Sam, Peter, Mike and Mark Zinniger, Bernadette Kassa, Theresa and Christine Clarke, Jason Lemoine, Adrienne, Glenn, Raymond and Randi Southwell and Amy and Eric Zinniger; and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Moore officiating.

Darlene Allabach, 93
VISTA - Darlene Feese Allabach, 93, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born April 10, 1908, in Iowa, she lived in Vista for 28 years. She was retired from California Federal Savings and Loan where she had been an escrow secretary. She was a member of the Order of the White Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Allabach was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Allabach, in 1990. She is survived by her son, Dudley Duane Hutchison of Moorpark; brother L. Maurice Feese of Hampton, Iowa; grandchildren Wendy Halderman and Celeste Hutchison; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at United Methodist Church of Vista with the Rev. Ken Johnstone officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. A private cremation is planned.

Sue Pitz, 46
OCEANSIDE - Sue M. Pitz, 46, died Monday, June 7, 2001, of respiratory distress syndrome.
Born March 8, 1955, in Monmouth, Ill., she lived in Oceanside for three years. She worked for Arrowhead Group Insurance. She was a member of the National Information Center for Children and Youth With Disabilities.
Mrs. Pitz was preceded in death by her mother, Betty M. McVey and brother Richard T. McVey. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Pitz of Oceanside; father Richard F. McVey of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; son Alexander P. Pitz of Oceanside; and sister Sally McVey of Monmouth, Ill.
A scattering of her cremains will take place at noon Saturday, June 16, at Del Ray Beach in Florida.
The family suggests memorial donations to Ivey Ranch Children's Day Care Center, 110 Rancho Del Oro, Oceanside, CA 92057.

OCEANSIDE - Velma Mae Rickert, 83, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Kaiser Hospital in San Diego.
Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Clinton, Ind., she lived in Oceanside for six years. She retired as an administrative secretary from the Greater Los Angeles Apartment Owners Association.
Mrs. Rickert is survived by her husband, Louis H. Rickert of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Dee and Don Graumann of Cardiff and Tyla and Tim Jones of Van Nuys; son and daughter-in-law Greg and LuAnn Hinshaw of Norfolk, Va.; brothers Max, Frank, Randy, and Dan Bandor, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters Vicki Blauvelt of Fort Wayne and Charlene Soltesz of Melbourne Beach, Fla; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service was held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Solana Beach on Tuesday, June 12. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Interment icon will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.

SAN MARCOS - Gwendolyn L. Clark, 81, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Born July 13, 1919, in Aberdeen, Wash., she lived in San Marcos for eight years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stanley Clark of San Marcos; daughters Joan Derry of Bremerton, Wash., Nancy Haugen of Seattle and Karen Campy of San Diego; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido. A private cremation with burial at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido is planned.
