ENCINITAS - Kenneth Lee Dean, 65, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Scripps memorial Hospital.
Born on a farm near Walthill, Thurston County, Nebraska, he lived in Encinitas for 48 years.
He retired from the payroll department of the General Dynamics Corp. in San Diego.
Mr. Dean is survived by his parents, Lloyd and Gladys Dean of Encinitas; brothers and sisters-in-law Stanley and June Dean of Escondido and Larry and Josephine Dean of San Ramon; sister and brother-in-law Carol Jean and Phillip Belous of Livermore; six nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, June 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside with interment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
El Camino Memorial, Encinitas Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Barbara Newton, 75
OCEANSIDE - Barbara ³Bobbie² Newton, 75, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, of cardiac arrest.
Born June 29, 1925, in Denver, she lived in Oceanside for 14 years. She retired in 1985 from the Prudential Insurance Co. and was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles for 47 years.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her husband of 14 years, William E. Newton of Oceanside; son Thomas E. Newton of Manila, Pa.; stepbrother Jack Kapple of Riverside; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Clark Handley of Anaheim; grandchildren Vicki, Thomas E., Nicci, William C., Tanya, Ted, Tim, Tyler, Troy; and step-granddaughters Tanya and Kim Kapple.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, June 20, at Eternal Hills with Dr. Lewis Leon of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Ronald McDonald (Home Association) Charity, 3170 Fourth Ave., Suite 300, San Diego, CA 92103.

Betty Young, 80
OCEANSIDE - Betty Louise Young, 80, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Venus, Texas, she lived in Oceanside for 43 years.
She worked for Oceanside School District and served as a corporal in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Mrs. Young is survived by her husband of 57 years, Harold A. Young of Oceanside; son Steven W. Young of Littleton, Colo.; and sister Margaret Wilson of Midlothian, Texas.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. with rosary recited at 10 a.m. today, June 20, at Oceanside Mortuary Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
Oceanside Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Allan Bond, 85
CARLSBAD - Allan E. Bond, 85, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Oceanview Convalescent Hospital of renal failure.
Born March 28, 1916, in Springfield, Mass., he lived in Carlsbad for 15 years.
He retired as a professional musician on Jan. 1, 2000. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a band master. He had the ability to play most instruments.
He played in various places in San Diego County including Roxieıs in Encinitas, the Elkıs Club in Encinitas and the Belly-Up in Solana Beach.
He had been a postman in Sierra Madre and delivered the mail on skates. He also was a salesman for 15 years at Continental Bookkeeping Services.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Bond, on Feb. 3, 1988.
He is survived by his son, Chris of Carlsbad; and sister and brother-in-law Linda and Bert Marks of Lake Arrowhead.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. A private inurnment is planned.

Wesley Andress, 94
SAN MARCOS - Wesley Sheldon Andress, 94, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, of a stroke.
Born Dec. 23, 1906, in Macedonia, Iowa, he lived in San Marcos for six weeks and in Rancho Bernardo for 10 years.
He retired in 1962 from the Department of Post Office in personnel administration. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a captain from the Naval Reserve.
He served as president of the Resident Council at Remington Club in Rancho Bernardo. He was a volunteer teacherıs assistant in Chula Vista in the 1980s. He had been in the Lionıs Club and served as president of Golden Beach Citizenıs Association in Southern Maryland.
Mr. Andress was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene C. Andress on March 24, 1998.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Eve and Norman Gould of Roseburg, Ore., and Patricia A. Flowe of Fairfax, Va.; brother Stanford Andress of Littleton, Colo.; sister-in-law Willette Andress of Yucaipa; grandchildren Richard, Robert, John, Fred, Linda and Jennifer; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. A private cremation is planned.

Bonnie Miller, 56
TEMECULA - Bonnie Faye Miller, 56, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1944, in Gettysburg, Pa., she lived in Temecula for eight years.
She was a registered nurse at Palomar Medical Center for 30 years. She had worked in Hawaii Kaiser-Permanente Clinic in Oahu, Hawaii, as a case manager geriatric specialist, and had been a public health nurse in Northern California.
She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a registered nurse and bachelorıs degrees. She graduated from Chambersburg, Pa., as an LVN.
Ms. Miller is survived by her father, J. Harold Miller of Corona; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Cheryl Miller of Riverside; twin sister Barbara Price-Dunkelberger of Escondido; aunt Nancy Jane Aiken of Oklahoma; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private family services are planned.

Jose Lujan, 74
ESCONDIDO - Jose Afaisen Lujan, 74, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home of natural causes.
Born March 6, 1927, in Guam, he lived in Escondido for 25 years. He was retired as a maintenance man at MacDonald.
Mr. Lujan was preceded in death by his daughter, Eleonor Lujan, in 1984.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rita Lujan of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Joseph and Deresita Lujan of Guam, Paul and Susa Lujan of Escondido, John and Sara Lujan of Escondido, Peter and Mandy Lujan of Escondido, and Vicente and Carol Lujan of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law Jesus Lujan of Guam and Francisco and Rosa Lujan of Guam; sisters and brothers-in-law Brigida Taijerom, Irene Borja, Marquita and Jesus Mantanona, all of Guam and Anna and Phil Batol of Barstow; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at the Church of the Resurrection with the Rev. Charles Fuld officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Charles Venard, 39
LEUCADIA - Charles ³Chuck² Peter Venard, 39, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home.
Born March 19, 1962, in San Diego, he lived in Leucadia for 26 years. He attended San Dieguito High School from 1976 to 1980 where he held the school record for the bench press in weight lifting.
He was awarded the volunteer Youth of the Year Award in 1979 at the North Coast Family YMCA in Encinitas. He was an artist and musician and is best know for his keyboard and guitar work.
He was an employee of Harbor Freight Tools of Escondido. He was a youth worship team leader at the North Coast Calvary Chapel.
Mr. Venard is survived by his father and mother, Terry and Rhoda Venard of Leucadia; sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Randy Cox of Encinitas; grandmothers Dorothy Vanderhyde of Encinitas and Vi Venard of Vermillion, S.D.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at North Coast Calvary Chapel.
The family suggests memorial donations in his memory, to the NCCC Youth Ministry, c/o North Coast Calvary Chapel, 7188 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92009.

Robert Jones, 69
CARLSBAD - Robert E. Jones, 69, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Union City, Tenn., he lived in Carlsbad for five years.
He worked at Heartland House for 10 years where he helped recovering alcoholics. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his sons, James Jones and Mark Jones.
He is survived by his former wife, Nancy Jones Tritten of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; daughters Theresa Sympson and Debra Parson, both of Carlsbad and Samantha Tritten of Stockton; brothers James Jones of Florida, Dale Jones of MIchigan and Wallace Jones of Connecticut; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.
The family suggests memorial donations to the San Diego Rescue Mission, 939 S. 16th St., San Diego, CA 92113.

John Mesko, 86
CARLSBAD - John Mesko, 86, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Feb. 15, 1915, in Dunmore, Pa., he lived in Carlsbad for 24 years. He was the owner of Mesko Glass Co.
Mr. Mesko is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Mesko of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Fiona Mesko of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Jack Dressler of San Clemente; and grandchildren Tara, Sasha, Alexander John, and Christopher John.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, June 20, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Benita Farrell, 72
CARLSBAD - Benita T. Farrell, 72, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at her home with hospice.
Born May 15, 1929, in Atlantic City, N.J., she lived in Carlsbad since 1996. She had lived in Hawaii for 28 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Farrell is survived by her husband of 51 years, John B. Farrell of Carlsbad; daughter Harriet Dahlin of Hawaii; sons John Jr. of Pentaluma and Benjamin T. of Carlsbad; sister Emilou Melvin of Auburn, Ala.; sister-in-law Jeannie Watkins of Monarch Beach; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at St. Michaelıs-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
A private inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Marguerite E. French, 96, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Life Care Center.
Born Nov. 24, 1904, in Boston, Mass., she lived in Escondido for nine years. She was a retired registered nurse.
Mrs. French is survived by her sons, Stanley L. French of North Carolina and Byron French of Rio Rancho, N.M.; daughter Winifred ³Winnie² Morris of Escondido; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.
A private cremation is planned.

Eva Keelan, 93
CARLSBAD - Eva M. Keelan, 93, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista of natural causes.
Born May 28, 1908, in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Carlsbad for 38 years. She was a homemaker for 70 years.
Ms. Keelan was preceded in death by her husband, James Keelan in 1979.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Lyons of Carlsbad; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. today, June 20, at Oceanside Mortuary Chapel.
A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Lee Andrew Dabbs, 95
OCEANSIDE - Lee Andrew Dabbs, 95, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 26, 1905, in Mississippi, he lived in Oceanside for 55 years. He retired in 1969 from the Oceanside Water Department after 23 years.
He was a member of the Walker AME Church. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Dabbs was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dabbs on July 15, 1998.
He is survived by his nieces, Josephine Griffen of Mississipi and Ethel Buchanon of Oceanside; nephews C.R. Roberts of Los Angeles, Robert White and James White, both of Oceanside; great-niece, Dolores Williams and great-nephew James Williams, both of Oceanside.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Walker Chapel AME.
