John Carhart, 61
RANCHO BERNARDO - John "Mickey" Carhart, 61, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home.
Born Sept. 28, 1939, in Los Angeles, he lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1973. He worked for more than 40 years in the land development and construction industry. In 1973 he joined the Collins Cos. and in February 1988, he was named president of Collins General Contractors. He was a frequent sponsor of numerous BIA events and served as a board member on the BIA's Political Policies Committee, Commercial Industrial Council and North County Division. In 1994 he was a recipient of the BIA's Building Industry's greatest award for professional achievement and excellence in political and community affairs. He was a member of National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, the American Society of Civil Engineers, International Council of Shopping Centers, Associated Builders and Contractors and California Business Properties Association.
Mr. Carhart is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marilyn Carhart; one daughter and two sons and four grandchildren; including Linda Carhart-Walker and her two children, Tara Walker and Jared Walker of Murrieta; Peter and wife Kirstin and their two children, Ryan and Mackenzie of Roseburg, Ore; Dennis and wife Kimber of Kihei, Hawaii; father Nathan Carhart and stepmother Loyce; mother Betty Bruce; sisters Ann Gelson of Studio City, and Candy Jones of Laguna Niguel; and brother Doug Carhart of Oakhurst.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, March 13, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido. Cremation is planned.

Elvin Peggar, 89
ESCONDIDO - Elvin A. Peggar, 86, died Saturday, March 10, 2001.
Born Oct. 16, 1911, in Loman, Minn., he lived in Escondido for 13 years. He had been a steam engineer for Minnesota and Ontario Paper Co.
Mr. Peggar is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law David and Shirley Peggar of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Neil and Valeria Peggar of Olympia, Wash.; daughter Sheila Trosak of Escondido; sisters Hazel Peggar of International Falls, Minn., and Myrtle Stephenson of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Julia Peggar, Sean and Darcy Demmon, Kathleen and Heather Peggar, Connie Stuart, Susie Lobel, and Matt and Lisa Trosak; and great-grandchildren Tamara and Trenton Lobel, Curtiss and Matthew Trosak, Joshua Stuart and Benjamin Trosak.
Viewing is scheduled for 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Robert Bedolla, 77
OCEANSIDE - Robert Bedolla, 77, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista of cancer.
Born Feb. 26, 1924, in San Gabriel, he lived in Oceanside for 35 years. He retired in 1992 as an automobile sales manager. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Bedolla was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Bedolla of Oceanside, and second wife, Linda Bedolla of MIchigan; daughters Maryann and Jeannette and sons Robert and Leonard. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Kurtis and Yvonne Bedolla of MIchigan; daughter Robin Bedolla of MIchigan; sisters Helen Montes and Edna Trejo; grandchildren Shellee, Steve, John, Heather, Tiffany, Robert, Tracey, Kimberly, Ellen, Brianna and Jackson; and great-grandchildren Alyssa and Daniel.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. today, March 13, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 4, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Miller officiating.

Shirley Amstutz, 63
ESCONDIDO - Shirley Frances Amstutz, 63, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at her home.
Born June 26, 1937, in Orange, she lived in Escondido for 22 years. She was a teacher for the Escondido Union School District for 34 years. She was a member of Escondido Nazarene Church. She was a retired music teacher and South Gate High School church choir director for 30 years.
Mrs. Amstutz is survived by her husband, Maynard Lloyd Amstutz of Escondido; sons Gregory James Amstutz of San Diego, Rodney Alan Amstutz of Temecula and Dean Richard Amstutz of San Diego; sister Patricia Loree Boldt of Escondido; and grandchildren Shelby Leann Amstutz and Christina Loree Amstutz.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Escondido First Church of the Nazarene. Private family cremation service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Faatui Maiava, 51
OCEANSIDE - Faatui Sofala Maiava, 51, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at his home.
Born Dec. 22, 1949, in Leone, American Somoa, he lived in Oceanside for 16 years. He was a heavy-equipment operator for the county of San Diego.
Mr. Maiava was preceded in death by his parents, Sofala and Fiailoa Maiava. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lia T. Maiava of Oceanside; daughters Laufali V. Maiava and Edna F. Maiava, both of Oceanside; brothers Isaac, Limoni, Sofala, Lene, Iakopo and Isaac Jr.; sisters Lupeline, Tina and Soonafai.
Visitation is scheduled for 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, and funeral at 10 a.m. at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Interment icon will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Karma Atteberry, 88
SUN CITY - Karma Jolley Atteberry, 88, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1913, in Glendale, Utah, she lived in Sun City for four years and lived in the county for 20 years. She worked in the banking business for 32 years and retired in 1978.
Ms. Atteberry is survived by her sisters, Helen Samson of Colorado and Irene Gosney of Oklahoma.
Private services and burial is planned at Riverside National Cemetery.

Rozelle Skarra, 85
ESCONDIDO - Rozelle Dolly Skarra, 85, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Silverado Senior Living.
Born Nov. 5, 1915, in Greeley, Colo. she lived in Escondido for 29 years. She was a teacher for 25 years. She was active at St. Francis Catholic Church, Women's Club, Garden Club, and various charity groups. She received a bachelor's degree from Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado). She enjoyed music, dancing and poetry.
Ms. Skarra was preceded in death by her son, John Perry Eino Skarra in 2000 and husband, Perry E. Skarra in 1982. She is survived by sons David Fredrick Skarra of Beaverton, Ore., Paul Clinton Skarra of Clatskanie, Ore., Mike Patrick Skarra of Vista and Stuart William Davis Skarra of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne Glynn Skarra of Santa Cruz, Mary Jean Skarra and Charles Pergler of Los Alamos, N.M., and Terese Rozelle Skarra and Kevin Corson of Temecula; grandchildren Dustin Skarra, Bridget Skarra, Crystal Tupoula, Jason Skarra, Kyle Skarra, Aurora Skarra-Gallagher, Ryan Skarra-Gallagher, Amber Skarra, Brendan Skarra-Corson and Isis Skarra-Pergler; and great-grandchildren Steven Tupoula and Tiaalea Tupoula.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Vista. Inurnment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Silverado Senior Living Foundation for Employees, 1500 Borden Road, Escondido, CA 92026.

Albert Watt Sr., 90

RAMONA - Albert E. Watt Sr., 90, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his home.
Born June 29, 1910, in New York, he lived in the San Diego Country Estates for 19 years. He lived in Van Nuys for 30 years before retiring.
He had been the sales manager for Shirley Fabrics in Los Angeles for many years.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the San Vincente Golf Association. He enjoyed tennis and most sports.
Mr. Watt was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Loretta M. Watt, in 1983.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Beatrice A. Watt of Ramona; son Albert E. Watt Jr. of Fountain Valley; daughters Carolyn Robertson of Lancaster and Patricia Mauch of Simi Valley; stepdaughter Dori Myers of Yorba Linda; sister Marie Bradbury of Connecticut; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Viewing and rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael J. Sinor officiating. Graveside services will follow at Nuevo Memory Gardens, where he will be buried next to his first wife.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 537 E. St., Ramona, CA 92065, earmarked for the building fund.

Mary Moncrieff, 83

RAMONA - Mary Loomis Moncrieff, 83, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, of an apparent heart attack.
Born Oct. 6, 1917, in Morehead City, N.C., she lived in Ramona for 19 years.
She graduated from Morehead City High School and attended secretarial school in Durham, N.C.
She worked as a typist in civil service for the Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles for 35 years. She retired in 1980, and lived two years in Rancho Bernardo before moving to Ramona.
She was an active member of the Neighborhood Baptist Church, serving as secretary of the Sunday school and also working in the nursery. She loved cats.
There are no known survivors. She will be missed by her church friends and also those at the Ramona Adult Day Care Center.
A funeral service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Neighborhood Baptist Church of Ramona with the Rev. Randy Ash officiating. Interment icon will be at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Neighborhood Baptist Church Mission Program, 838 Hanson Lane, Ramona, CA 92065.

James Wilkerson, 81

CARLSBAD - James H. Wilkerson, 81, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 8, 1919, in Rayville, La., he lived in Carlsbad for 37 years.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 30 years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for seven years.
He was a world traveler, sang in the church choir at First Presbyterian in Oceanside for many years and was a member of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Tri-City Hospital.
Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by his son, James L. Wilkerson, in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mabel Wilkerson of Carlsbad; daughters and son-in-law Patty Walker of San Diego, and Roseanne and Matthew Eichenbaum of Costa Mesa; sister Ethel Hazelwood of Rayville, La.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
A private cremation and scattering is planned.

Irene Moran, 83

VISTA - Irene Moran, 83, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 18, 1918, in San Diego, she lived in Vista for 83 years. She was a homemaker for 65 years. She was a San Luis Rey Band of Luiseno Indians elder. She enjoyed gardening and painting.
Mrs. Moran was preceded in death by her mother, Clima Giddons Foussat, and father, Frank D. Foussat. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Manuel N. Moran of Vista; sons Alan Estrada of Myers Flat, Manny Moran, Max Moran and Martin Moran, all of Vista, Dennis Estrada of Providence, Utah, and Stanley Estrada of Carlsbad; daughters Phyllis Vengerg of San Marcos, Ruth Olvera of Encinitas, Carla Salas of Sebastopol, Gwen Hardison of Poway, Lisa Moran of Citrus Heights, Carol Hernandez of Vista and Marlene Fosselman of Vista; brother Carl Foussat of San Marcos; sisters Ann Farris of Cardiff, Rose Estrada of Cardiff and Jeannie Hofer of Valley Center; 50 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 14, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel in Oceanside. A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at San Luis Rey Mission Old Chapel in Oceanside. Interment icon will be private.

Marsha Brunning, 54

SAN MARCOS - Marsha Carol Brunning, 54, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at her home.
Born Aug. 19, 1946, in Inglewood, she lived in San Marcos for 14 years and lived in Mira Mesa for five years prior. She had been a production worker for Focus 21 International for seven years. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, puzzles, music and her cats, Tiffany and Tiger.
Mrs. Brunning is survived by her husband of 20 years, Leon G. Brunning of San Marcos; son Cas Elmer Smith III of Arizona; daughter Carolyn Smith of Long Beach; niece Kirstine N. Grover of Redlands; and nephew Robert D. Grover of Garland, Texas.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Broadway Baptist Church in Escondido with the Rev. Jack Rickman officiating. A private burial will take place at San Marcos Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to Broadway Baptist Church of Escondido, 1135 N. Broadway, Escondido, CA 92026.

Herbert Orr, 82

OCEANSIDE - Herbert "Herb" James Orr, 82, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in San Diego.
Born March 16, 1918, in Stevens Point, Wis., he lived in Oceanside for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 30 years and retired as a master gunnery sergeant in 1970. He served in North China and was a prisoner of war in Japan for 44 months. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Orr was preceded in death by his son Herbert "Chuck" Orr in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Esther L. Orr of Oceanside; and son Stephen Robert Orr of Carlsbad.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel with the Rev. Michael Gagnon officiating. Interment icon will follow at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.
