Robert Bedolla, 77
OCEANSIDE - Robert Bedolla, 77, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista of cancer.
Born Feb. 26, 1924, in San Gabriel, he lived in Oceanside for 35 years.
He retired in 1992 as an automobile sales manager.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Bedolla was preceded in death by daughters Maryann and Jeannette and sons Robert and Leonard.
He is survived by his first wife, Rita Bedolla of Oceanside, and second wife, Linda Smith of MIchigan; son and daughter-in-law Kurtis and Yvonne Bedolla of MIchigan; daughter Robin Bedolla of MIchigan; sisters Helen Montes and Edna Trejo; grandchildren Shellee, Steve, John, Heather, Tiffany, Robert, Tracey, Kimberly, Collen, Brianna, and Jackson; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Daniel, Seth, Ethan and Brooke.
A graveside service was held at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 4, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Miller officiating.

Gyte Van Zyl
Gyte Van Zyl, beloved husband of 50 years to Jane Van Zyl, died on March 13, 2001, at the age of 73. Loving father to Jane A. Clark and Leslie G. McMurray, proud grandfather of Byron, Rebekah, Jeffrey, Nicole, Cameron, Jacqueline Clark and Benjamin McMurray whom he affectionately termed his ³dividends.²
Born Gail Byron Van Zyl in Holland, Mich., to the late Dr. Gerrit and Bertha Van Zyl, he is survived by his brother Allison Van Zyl of Lake Odessa, Mich., and his sister Verna R. Post of Anderson Island, Wash. He was preceded in death by his brother Neil H. Van Zyl.
Gyte grew up in Holland, Mich. He served his country as a military police officer in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany at the close of World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree at Hope College in Holland, Mich., in 1952, and a doctor of jurisprudence at Stanford University in 1955. Gyte practiced law in California from 1955 until he retired from full time practice in 1989. He served as a general counsel to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1967 to 1987. He was awarded an honorary life membership from the academy in 1987.
Devoted husband, loving father, faithful steward to his church, his community and his friends. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held today, March 15, at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, at 2001 El Camino Real in Oceanside.
Elizabeth Anne Davies King
In this world, there are givers and there are those who benefit from the givers. Liz Davies King was among the best in the spirit of the giving throughout her life. Liz King, 42, died Sunday morning, March 11, 2001, at Scripps Green Hospital, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Liz was born Sept. 3, 1958, in San Diego. She is a descendent of the original Spanish pioneers of San Diego who came in the 1600s with Father Junipero Serra on the Portola-Serra expedition. Her ancestors were the Ortega, Arguello and Olvera families. She was a ninth-generation San Diegan.
Liz was raised in Spring Valley and attended Monte Vista High School. She went on to attend San Diego State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. During her years at San Diego State, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and was crowned Homecoming Queen and Holiday Bowl Queen in 1980.
Liz married
Ted Anthony King in 1983, and they were blessed with three daughters. Liz was an avid and gifted photographer which brought great joy to her extended family and friends. The images she captured reflected her creative soul and are loved and admired by the many people touched by her work. In recent months she turned her avocation into a business and had begun photographing horse shows. Liz was as beautiful inside as she was outside and she leaves behind a legacy of joy and giving as well as many family and friends who loved her dearly.
Liz is survived by her husband Ted; her daughters, Jennifer, Katherine and Christina; her mother, Claudia Stevenson Davies, her father, William F. Davies; her brother William, his wife, Julie, and their children, Michael, Adrianna and Nicole; her brother Steven and his children, Vincent, Adam and Alyssa; her aunt, Betty Stevenson Hamlin; her cousins Lisa Hamlin Vieira, Mari Hamlin Fink, William R. Hamlin, Steven C. Hamlin, Mark W. Stevenson and Tammy Stevenson Miller; her aunt, Joanne Stevenson Blake, her mother-in-law, Patricia King; her father-in-law, Waldo King; her sister-in-law, Pamela Hewitson and her great-uncle and aunt, William R. and Jeanne Green.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to the start of a rosary at 7 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Encinitas Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel, Carlsbad with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, San Diego.

Lee Saul, 82
OCEANSIDE - Lee Irvin Saul, 82, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home.
Born Dec. 2, 1918, in Covina, he lived in Oceanside for 31 years and San Marcos for seven years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel for 28 years. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Mr. Saul was preceded in death by his wife Regina N. Saul, in April 2000. He is survived by son Stephen Lee Saul of Bullhead City, Ariz.; daughter Judith Ann Saul of Bullhead City; sister Frances Waggerly of Canyon Lakes; and grandchildren Richard Kevin Saul of Las Vegas, and Nicole Saul of San Clemente.
Visitation and funeral service are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Allen Bros. Vista Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Woods officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors.

Dorothy Fennell, 86
ESCONDIDO - Dorothy C. Fennell, 86, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Rancho Vista Retirement Center of natural causes.
Born July 16, 1914, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, she lived at Las Villas del Norte for 3 1/2 years. She had lived in San Marcos previously since 1987.
She was a musician and retired in 1976. She received a bachelors degree and masters degree and performing arts degree in viola and violin from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York.
She was chosen by Leopold Stokowski to tour South America as a member of the All American Youth Orchestra. During her career as a concert violist she played with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Eastman Chamber Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony and others. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Fennell is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cass and Lloyd Martensen of San Marcos.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Meg Decker officiating.
A private cremation is planned.

Jack Sherman, 68
OCEANSIDE - Jack Lee Sherman, 68, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1932, in Forest Grove, Ore., he lived more than 50 years in San Diego County. He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years.
He retired in 1987 from Pacific Telephone after 28 years. After retirement he did part-time communication and maintenance work.
He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He was also involved with scouting and Little League.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife Marti Sherman; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Jan Sherman of Santa Ana, Mark and Sherry Sherman of Coral Springs, Fla., and Scott and Sheri Sherman of Scripps Ranch; brother and sister-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rinehart of San Diego; grandchildren Matthew and Sara Sherman of Coral Springs, Fla., and Scotty Sherman of Scripps Ranch; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Interment
will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Dorothy Bearinger, 85
ESCONDIDO - Dorothy Ann Bearinger, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001.
Born Sept. 6, 1915, in Chicago, she lived in Escondido for two years. She was a homemaker for 25 years.
Mrs. Bearinger was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Fredrick Bearinger, 20 years ago.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce Lawrence of Ramona; four grandchildren; and two sisters.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. today, March 15, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. Burial will be at noon Friday, March 16, at Ascension Cemetery in El Toro.

William Horner, 31
SAN MARCOS - William David Horner, 31, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 16, 1969, in San Diego, he lived in San Marcos. He was a computer technician for 10 years, most recently for Tek Systems.
He was a Little League coach in Carlsbad and was an avid Chargers and Padres fan.
Mr. Horner is survived by his wife of four years, Meoghan Horner of San Marcos; mother Samaria Horner of Jacksonville, Fla.; son David Anthony Horner of San Marcos; sister Stephanie Horner of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nephew Zacory Hendrix of Jacksonville, Fla.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. today, March 15, at Poway Lake Gazebo #6 in Poway with the Rev. Rik Villalobos officiating.

Jeanne Luke, 80
VISTA - Jeanne Louise Luke, 80, died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Richland, Wash., of cancer.
Born June 12, 1920, in Lincoln, Neb., she lived in Vista for more than 30 years.
She was a teacher for the Vista School District for more than 30 years. She had a master's degree and was a world traveler.
Mrs. Luke is survived by her sister Katherine Lund of Luguna Hills; nieces Billie Ker and Ginger Foust; and nephew Mike Luke.
Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today, March 15, at Oak Wood Cemetery in San Fernando Valley.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Vista Royalodge clubhouse.
Ronald Osinski, 67
CARLSBAD - Ronald Paul Osinski, 67, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 13, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, he lived in Carlsbad for 24 years. He retired in August 1971, from the U.S. Marine Corps as a master gunnery sergeant.
Mr. Osinski was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Osinski.
He is survived by his daughter Victoriana Griffith; grandchildren Christopher and Loel Griffith; and great-grandchildren Travis and Ashley Griffith, all of Susanville.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Laura Ann Gordon, 63
LAKE FOREST - Laura Ann Gordon, 63, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Mission Viejo of heart failure.
Born May 7, 1937, in Fallbrook she lived in Lake Forest for nine years. She was an insurance consultant for more than 30 years. She attended Fallbrook schools from kindergarten through the twelfth grade. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Ms. Gordon is survived by her mother Opal Gordon of Hemet; sister Jane Donley of Carlsbad; and nephews Mike Donley of Whittier and Steve Donley of Carlsbad.
Ms. Gordon's cremains will be scattered at sea with the Neptune Society officiating.

Born Aug. 11, 1926, in Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for seven years. She was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Lech is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Edward and Jackie Lech of Nevada City; and grandchildren Aaron Lech, Kristin Duffy, Rebecca Hallsted and Rachel Lech.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church with the Rev. James Rafferty officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Adalberts Cemetery in Lancaster, N.Y.

ESCONDIDO - Susan DiOrio, 79, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Feb. 21, 1922, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for 17 years. She retired in 1984 from Clairol as a senior laboratory technician.
Mrs. DiOrio was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph DiOrio in 1980.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Patrick DiOrio of Escondido and Mark and Constance DiOrio of Cupertino; daughter and son-in-law Etta and Edward Green of Escondido; grandchildren Catherine Aldred of Franklin, Mass., Joseph P. DiOrio of Worchester, Mass., Susan Sidwell of Santa Monica, Sara DeBora of Rancho Bernardo, Christopher Joseph DiOrio and Elizabeth Anne DiOrio, both of Cupertino; and two great-grandchildren.

CARDIFF - Dorothy M. Donahue, 86, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, of natural causes.
Born June 29, 1914, in Omaha, Neb., she lived in Cardiff for 41 years.
She retired from the U.S. Army in 1956 and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Encinitas.
Ms. Donahue was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Agnes Noonan Donahue; stepmother Lena Donahue; and brother William Donahue.
She is survived by sisters Mary Donahue Shea of Rockville, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary and Mass service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Encinitas.
Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Garden of the Last Supper in Oceanside.
