ESCONDIDO - Walter E. Blake, 72, died Saturday, March 24, 2001.
Born Aug. 24, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, he lived in Escondido for 49 years. He was a meat cutter and served on the Escondido Reserve Police Department.
Mr. Blake is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann Marie Baker Blake of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Iva Blake of Escondido, Dennis and Lynn Blake of Tuolumne and Douglas and Karen Blake of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Joe Bogart of Escondido and Lauren Ann and Kevin Woods of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law George and Jan Blake and Curtiss and Linda Blake, all Idaho; sister Virginia Blake Russell of Washington; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the home of Dan Blake at 2533 Heather Place. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial donations to a children's charity or charity of choice.

James Holdcroft, 92
FALLBROOK - James Holdcroft, 92, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at his home.
Born March 11, 1909, in New Castle, England, he lived in Fallbrook for 11 years. He had worked for the city of Los Angeles.
Mr. Holdcroft was preceded in death by his wife, Rose L. Holdcroft in 1992. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Eric J. and Connie Holdcroft of Fallbrook and Brian H. and Patricia Ann Holdcroft of Salem, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and Charles Duffy of Fallbrook; grandchildren Mark, Brian, Michael and Eric Holdcroft, Richard, Robert, Sheri and Shelley Duffy, Amy Schwartz and Beth Reynoso; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 29, at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Fallbrook First Baptist Church with the Rev. George Hreha officiating. Interment icon will follow at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery with Hreha officiating.

Deila Agnew, 89
RANCHO BERNARDO - Deila Grace Agnew, 89, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Villa Pomerado in Poway.
Born May 18, 1911, near El Centro, she lived in Rancho Bernardo. She was retired from Brawley Plumbing and Electric in 1941, then became a teacher at Phil Swing School and retired again in 1976. She attended Central union High School and Imperial Valley College in 1930. Grafton Road was named after her father, John Maxwell Grafton.
Mrs. Agnew is survived by her daughter Marjorie Covington of San Diego; sister Ruth Irving of El Centro; grandchildren Janice Edgar, Steve Covington, Julie Stone, Michael Edgar and Jeff Stone; great-grandchildren Julie, John Michael, Jamie, Genevieve and Nicholas.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, March 29, at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.
North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Henry Clark, 70

CARLSBAD - Henry E. Clark, 70, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 26, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., he lived in Carlsbad for 1 1/2 years and was formerly of Rancho Santa Fe. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was an aircraft manufacturer prior to his retirement.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue V. Clark of Carlsbad; daughters Carrie Bannon and Paula Bedner, both of Virginia, Susan Slyter of Solana Beach and Jennifer Clark of Carlsbad; son Mike Clark of Virginia; stepson Paul Quaintance of Oklahoma and Gary Quaintance of Flonston.
A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. A private inurnment is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations in his memory to the Escondido Humane Society C/O Escondido Hills Animal Hospital, 555 W. Country Club Lane, Escondido, CA 92026.

Stanley Kendall, 76

HENDERSON, Nev. - Stanley Kendall, 76, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas.
Born Jan. 1, 1925, in California, he lived in Henderson for three years and was previously from Escondido for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a sales manager in the power tool division for Rockwell Int. and retired after 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and jazz music.
Mr. Kendall is survived by his wife Marianne Kendall of Henderson, Nev.; sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Debra Kendall of Longview, Texas, Steve and Pam Kendall of Missoula, Mont. and David Kendall of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren Diana Huss and Forrest Kendall; and great-granddaughter Ayla.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Odyssey Hospice in Las Vegas. A reception service will follow at the Kendall family home in Henderson.

Alice Shaw, 78

OCEANSIDE - Alice V. Shaw, 78, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in an Escondido care facility.
Born Oct. 18, 1922, in Middletown, Ohio, she lived in Oceanside for 75 years. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She was a active in the Oceanside Senior Center and attained Life Master in Bridge.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Eagan, in 1975. She is survived by sons Jim Eagan of Oceanside and Mike and Dan Shaw, both of San Clemente.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, March 30, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. There will be a private burial at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
Oceanside Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Sean Maloney, 38
RANCHO BERNARDO - Sean Joseph Maloney, 38, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Born Dec. 31, 1962, in Orange, he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 33 years.
Mr. Maloney is survived by his parents, Grace and Patrick Maloney of Rancho Bernardo; brother Michael Maloney of Escondido; sister Katie Fisher of Poway, Erin Kane of Poway, Kelly Maloney of Rancho Penasquitos; Maggie Da Costa of Rancho Penasquitos, twin sister Cassie Castle of Orange County and Molly Maloney of Escondido; and 14 nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at San Raphael Catholic Church.
The family suggests memorial donations in his memory to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 8880 Rio San Diego Drive, Suite 950, San Diego, CA 92108.

Fern Sayre, 93
ESCONDIDO - Fern Mae Sayre, 93 died Sunday, March 25, 2001.
Born May 7, 1907, in Iowa, she lived in Escondido.
Mrs. Sayre is survived by her brother, Roy Sheeley of Yucipa.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, March 29, at Forest Lawn, Glendale.
Forest Lawn Mortuary is handling arrangements.

James Barber, 47
DALLAS - James Jeffery Barber, 47, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, of a heart attack.
He recently relocated to Dallas from Cardiff by the Sea.
He was a writer, musician, composer/arranger, golfer and Tolkien hobbyist.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Sandra Shaffer Barber of Dallas; daughter Kathryn of Torrance; son Benjamin of Chino Hills; stepchildren Tania Riggin of Blanding, Utah, Ashley Walsh of Port Charlotte, Fla., David Beers of San Francisco and Jacqueline DeLoach of Winter Park, Fla.; mother and step-father Stanley and Maureen Dortch of Rancho Cucamonga; brothers Michael, John and Matthew; sisters Andrea Folsom, Valorie Rayl, Kathleen Ray; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Saddlebrook Apartment Complex Community Room in Dallas.
A second service is planned for California at a later date.
The family suggests memorial donations in Mr. Barber's name to the American Red Cross, 311 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92025.

Marian Cargile, 58
Marian Riddell Cargile, 58, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Marian was born July 12, 1942, in Clarksville, Ark., to Wendell and Katherine Riddell.
She attended Clarksville schools, graduating near the op of her class at Clarksville High School in 1960. Marina attended the College of the Ozarks and Arkansas State Teachers College, graduating with honors from ASTC in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in music education. While in college, she was active in theater and music, earning many accolades with her beautiful soprano voice.
She was a top-notch scholar which resulted in not only honors upon graduation, but membership in the prestigious Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Marian was a finalist in the Miss Arkansas Pageant, 1961, college cheer leader, member of Alpha Chi (scholastic order), and winner of numerous awards for her vocal talents.
After graduation, Marian taught junior high music in Little Rock until her marriage in 1966. During her lifetime, Marian was an educator of the first order.
She was a school teacher in Oceanside, part-time teacher in Woodbridge, Va., Yardley, Pa., and most recently at the Army and Navy Academy (ANA) in Carlsbad. Her affiliation with (ANA) was also as the soloist for special occasions. Further, she was much involved in adult education where she was a dean and later a director of schools in North San Diego County.
Marian had two passions, one was her love for God and faith in Jesus Christ as her savior and the other, a deep love for her family (which has been returned in the fullest).
Her involvement in the church included directing the choir at the Community Church of Vista and, most recently, the Marine Memorial Chapel, Camp Pendleton. Christian music gave her immense pleasure.
Her contributions to worship services in North County have been enormous. Marian was a member of PEO and past president of the chapter in Honolulu.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 35 years, John (Jack) W. Cargile of Oceanside; son Jason Cargile of Oceanside; son John Kevin Cargile, his wife Rene' Cargile of Tulsa, Okla.; grandson Josh Cargile of Tulsa; parents Wendell and Katherine Riddle of Clarksville, Ark.; brother Forrest Riddell of Clarksville; and brother Marcus Riddell of Seattle.
There will be a celebration of life in Marian's honor, at the Marine Memorial Chapel, Camp Pendleton at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7. The service is open to everyone.
Marian's ashes will be spread at sea by her family.

John Wilson Jr., 79
RAMONA - John Harrison Wilson Jr., 79, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Palomar Hospital in Escondido.
Born Oct. 27, 1921, in Ramona, he lived in Ramona until 1952. He moved to Los Angeles and worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica, starting as a parts salesman he worked his way up to director of commercial contracts for McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach. He retired in 1980 and returned to Ramona. He was an outstanding scholar and athlete at Ramona High School. He was a star quarterback on Ramona's first football team and an outstanding guard on three league championship basketball teams. He attended the University of Southern California and was a member of the football team and graduated in 1946 with a degree in commercial aviation. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator Bomber attached to the Second Air Division, Eighth Air Force, 389th Bomb Group, out of Hetel, England. He and crew flew 40 missions over Germany.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Sharon L. Wilson of Ramona; son John Harrison Wilson III of Carlsbad; daughters Jean Wilson Eckart of La Mirada, Lindy Wilson Johnston of Oregon and Kristin Wilson of Chino Hills; sister Gertrude Wilson Page of Ramona; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the Ramona First Congregational Church with the Rev. Alex Dreese, pastor of the church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Dollars for Scholars, C/O Ramona High School, 1401 Hanson Lane, Ramona, CA 92065, or charity of choice.

Patrick Sciarretta, 88
RAMONA - Patrick "Pat" Sciarretta, 88, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
Born March 17, 1913, in Benevento, Italy, he lived in Ramona since 1948. He worked many years for the Ed Nelson Construction Co. and was a plumber and mason. He loved going to the Del Mar Racetrack, the San Diego Padres games and bowled in a league for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Mr. Sciarretta is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine "Josie" L. Sciarretta of Ramona; son Joseph A. Sciarretta of Ramona; daughters Patricia Hoerr of Escondido and Louise Ford of San Marcos; brother Anthony Sciarretta of Waterbury, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael J. Sinor, pastor of the church, officiating. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. Graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, at Nuevo Memory Gardens.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Pleasant Courts, 78

POWAY - Pleasant Arthur Courts, 78, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001.
Born June 24, 1922, in Hamlin, W.Va., he lived in Poway for 44 years. He was a teacher in the San Diego schools for 31 years. He was a retired U.S. Navy aviator and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Poway.
Mr. Courts is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Courts of Poway; son Craig Courts of Poway; daughters Donetta Black of Escondido and Amie Wisdom of Poway; brothers Winford Courts and Carsey Courts, both of West Virginia; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Poway Bernardo Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ron Shepard officiating. A private inurnment will be at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.

Elizabeth Callahan, 78

OCEANSIDE - Elizabeth Frances Callahan, 78, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Villa Monte Vista Convalescent Facility.
Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Philadelphia, she lived in Oceanside for 40 years. She was retired from Christians Church Disciples of Christ as a convalescent home administrator. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a master sergeant.
Ms. Callahan is survived by son John Callahan of Vista; daughters and son-in-law Eileen Callahan of La Jolla and Colleen and John Bury of Dana Point; and grandchildren John and Vincent Bury of Dana Point.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today, March 30, at Mission San Luis Rey Church with the Rev. Garrette Galvin officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Private cremation is planned.
