ESCONDIDO - Peter Manuel Vargas, 43, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Palomar Continuing Care in Escondido.
Born July 12, 1956, in Westwood, he lived in Escondido for 41 years. He graduated from Escondido High School.
Mr. Vargas is survived by his father and stepmother, Peter Martines and Esther Vargas of Escondido; brothers Tom Vargas of Ramona, John Vargas and David Vargas, both of Santa Ysabel, Rudy Marques, Tony Alvarez and Eduardo Alvarez; and sisters Yolanda Gonzales and Leonar Alvarez.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. P. Garcia officiating.

William Driver, 89
CARLSBAD - William Aaron Driver, 89, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, of spinal cancer, at his home.
Born Sept. 21, 1910, in Edna, Kan., he lived in Carlsbad for 33 years. He was an Episcopal priest for 66 years and rector of St. Michael's-by-the-Sea in Carlsbad from 1967 to 1978, and served in the Diocese of San Diego, including St. Paul's Cathedral, where he was made an honorary canon on Nov. 21, 1999. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carlsbad City Library and the City Personnel Commission.
The Rev. Driver is survived by his daughter, Ann L'Heureux of Carlsbad; and granddaughter Stephanie L'Heureux of Tokyo.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at St. Paul's Cathedral in San Diego, with the Rev. Gethin Hughes officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Carlsbad City Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Adam Rattee, 18
ESCONDIDO - Adam C. Rattee, 18, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, from complications of leukemia.
Born Feb. 17, 1982, in Oceanside, he lived in Escondido his entire life. He was an NJROTC at Orange Glen High School and a student at Center City High School. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rincon Valley Ward.
Mr. Rattee is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sarah M. and Michael Thompson of Iron Mountain, Mont.; father Clifford A. Rattee of Escondido; grandparents Catherine and Frank Osborn of Escondido, Marjorie Rattee of E. Point, Mich., and Charles Rattee of Mount Clemens, Mich.; brother Wesley A. Rattee of Escondido; stepbrother Nick Thompson of Iron Mountain; sister Megan L. Rattee of Iron Mountain; and numerous uncles and aunts.
Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Washington St. in Escondido. A funeral will follow at 11 a.m., with Bishop Charles F. Nielsen officiating. Interment icon will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Arthur Mahony, 77
ESCONDIDO - Arthur E. Mahony, 77, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Ontario, Canada, he lived in Escondido for 10 years. He was a policeman in Canada and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Mahony was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Mahony, in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Rhea Mahony of Escondido; son Daniel Mahony of British Columbia; brother Daniel Mahony of Canada; and sisters Fern McMichael and Letty Brown, both of Canada.
A private cremation is planned.

Edna Whitcher, 96
FALLBROOK - Edna C. Whitcher, 86, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Poway.
Born April 28, 1904, in Quincy, Ill., she lived in Fallbrook. She graduated in 1930 with the first graduating class of UCLA's Westwood Campus. She worked on fighter planes at Lockheed's Burbank plant during World War II. She was an art teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District and a volunteer at the Fallbrook Senior Center for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Whitcher was preceded in death by her second husband, Warren Whitcher, in 1994; and her first husband, Donald Stover, in 1974. She is survived by her son, Robert Stover of Arcadia; grandchildren Jonathan Stover of South Pasadena and Jennifer Stover of Pasadena.
Visitation, a funeral service and interment was held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, with the Rev. Stan Hirtle of the South Pasadena Christian Church officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the First Christian Church in Fallbrook, with the Rev. Lee Roberts officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Fallbrook Senior Center, 399 Heald St., Fallbrook, CA 92028.

Wilma Aeschliman, 90
RANCHO BERNARDO - Wilma Loretta Aeschliman, 90, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000.
Born Sept. 1, 1909, in Milwaukie, Ore., she lived in San Diego for 15 years. He was a homemaker for 59 years.
Mrs. Aeschliman is survived by her husband, Edwin F. Aeschliman of Rancho Bernardo.
No service is planned.

Albert Hubbard, 89
ESCONDIDO - Albert West Hubbard, 89, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 28, 1910, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he lived in Escondido. He was the owner of The Gun Shop in N. Broadway and served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hubbard.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Dorothy Taylor, 85
WOODLAND HILLS - Dorothy Mae Taylor, 85, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Woodland Hills.
Born Dec. 14, 1914, in Dallas, she lived in La Costa for 17 years. she was a medical secretary in Westwood and an apartment manager in West Los Angeles, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the San Dieguito Art Guild.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her sons, John Taylor of Carlsbad, Bob Taylor of Columbus, Miss., and Bill Taylor of Castaic; sister Mary Henry of Carlsbad; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas.

ESCONDIDO - Doreen Ruiz, 63, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Jan. 2, 1937, in Rochester, Minn., she lived in Escondido.
Mrs. Ruiz is survived by her sons, Perry Ruiz and Nick Ruiz; daughter Felicia Cook; granddaughters Annie and Samantha; and two stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Vineyard Park, in Escondido.

Edna Mae Huxtable, 78
SUN CITY - Edna Mae Huxtable, 78, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at her home.
Born Nov. 15, 1921, in Moorhead, Minn., she lived in Sun City for 11 years. She was a music teacher for the Garden Grove School District for 50 years and a member of the Newcomers Club.
Mrs. Huxtable is survived by her husband, Bob Huxtable, of Sun City; son, Kim Huxtable, of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters Vicky Huxtable-Epstein of Los Angeles and Becky Osterberg of New Bern, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held Tuesday, May 16, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory.

Marian Vejar, 64
SUN CITY - Marian Elinor Vejar, 64, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.
Born July 4, 1935, in Los Angeles, she lived in Sun City for 15 years. She was a supervisor at Phillips Electronics in San Jose for 30 years.
Mrs. Vejar is survived by her son, Dan Johnson of Wichita, Kan.; daughters Cindy Hamilton of Morgan Hill and Karen Jolly of Kenmore, Wash.; sister Marie Lemon of Los Angeles; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

HEMET - Raymond Troy Sickles, 38, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.
Born June 21, 1961, in Phoenix, he lived in Hemet for three years and previously lived in Vista. He was a pipe layer for Genesis in Hemet for three years and was a member of U-Turn for Christ at Calvary Chapel in Hemet.
Mr. Sickles is survived by his father, Charles Sickles of Temecula; mother Clara Follis of Vista; and brothers Dirk Brooks of Colorado, and Charles Sickles and Timothy Sickles, both of Temecula.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Calvary Chapel of Hemet.

James King, 78
SUN CITY - James Edward King, 78, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 17, 1922, in Pratt, Kan., he lived in Sun City for 28 years. He was a stockbroker for Paine Webber in California for nine years and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1944 to 1961, retiring as a major. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Soldiers Medal for Valor and Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and seven Campaign Stars. He was a member of the Shriners-Daedalions Cherry Hills Golf Club, the Retired Officers' Association and the Masons.
Mr. King is survived by his wife, Marcia Coleman King of Sun City; daughter Joanne King Livingston of South Fork, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A graveside service will be held at 2:15 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Riverside National Cemetery. Burial will follow.

William Hepburn, 69
TEMECULA - William "Bill" Hepburn, 69, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Miles City, Mont., he lived in Temecula for 12 years. He was a graduate of Porterville High School and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was the owner of Christian Hill Tree Farm in Temecula for 12 years and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was past master of Jubilee Masonic Lodge in Santa Ana, past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Santa Ana and Lake Elsinore and an Eagle Boy Scout.
Mr. Hepburn is survived by his wife, Dolores Hepburn of Temecula; mother Edna Baird of Covina; sons Bob Hepburn of Murrieta and Rick Hepburn of San Pedro; sister Jo Anne Molina of Covina; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 17, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at noon Thursday, May 18, at Stout Family Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at 1:45 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 4.

HEMET - Raymond Troy Sickles, 38, died Saturday, May 6, 2000.

ENCINITAS - Kassia Tibbetts, 29, died Monday, May 15, 2000, as a result of an auto accident in Central California.
Born April 2, 1971, in San Diego, she lived in Encinitas.
Mrs. Tibbetts is survived by her mother and father, Gail and Robert Canchola of Encinitas; daughters Stephanie Ann Tibbetts, Christine Tibbetts, Erika Tibbetts and Holly Canchola, all of Encinitas; and sisters Andrea Smith of Temecula, Laura Crewse of Carlsbad and Linda Canchola of Oceanside.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 18, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas. A private inurnment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Richard Jones, 75
ESCONDIDO - Richard E. Jones Sr., 75, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Jan. 6, 1925, in Escondido he lived in Escondido for 75 years. He was a self-employed plasterer, retiring in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Iwo Jima and was a member and past commander of the American Legion, Post 149, for 24 years. He was a member of 40 ET 8 No. 1406 for 20 years and of the Past Commanders Club and the Las Ramadas Camping Club in Escondido.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ada Jones of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Marie Jones Jr. of Poway and Kenneth and Jane Jones of Orange; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Steve Marsh of Yorba Linda and Shirley and Ronald Johnson of San Marcos; brothers and sisters-in-law Donald and Elda Jones of Escondido, Charles and Edith Jones of Tulare, Gerald and Fern Jones of Las Vegas, and Ruford "Boots" and Frances Jones of Oceanside; sister Edith Book of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
