CARLSBAD - Debbie Steinbrenner, 40, died Monday, April 9, 2001.
Born Feb. 4, 1961, in Gary, Ind., she lived in Carlsbad for 10 years.
She was a cashier at Carlsbad Country Store and a softball mom.
Ms. Steinbrenner was preceded in death by her mother, Judith K. Steinbrenner, on Jan. 13, 2000.
She is survived by her companion of 18 years, Darren Davis of Carlsbad; father Ronald Steinbrenner of San Diego; daughters Ashley Davis and Laurie Davis, both of Carlsbad; brother John Steinbrenner of San Diego; sisters Karen Lopez and Jody Lopez, both of Fallbrook and Jill Larson of El Cajon; grandmother Mildred Clarke of Kentucky; great-aunt Pauline Smith of San Diego and aunt and uncle Jane and Clancy Trent of Kentucky.
A memorial and graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. David Plank officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Davis's daughter's trust fund, C/O First National Bank of North County, 2365 Marron Road, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Clarice Mooney, 85
SAN MARCOS - Clarice May Mooney, 85, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Madonna Maria Care Home.
Born May 11, 1915, in Colorado, she lived in San Marcos for 30 years.
Ms. Mooney was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Mooney, in 1969.
She is survived by her daughter, Lila L. Grondahl of Minneapolis.
Burial will be held at a later date and time at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
A private cremation is planned.

Margaret Buerkle, 95
ESCONDIDO - Margaret Buerkle, 95, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born Jan. 27, 1906, in Italy, she lived in Escondido for 18 years.
She was a seamstress for Tillie Schneider for 35 years.
Mrs. Buerkle was preceded in death by her husband, Anthonio Piccirillo, in 1959.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Pat P. and Rita Piccirillo of Torrence and Anthony and Ellen Piccirillo of San Marcos; daughter Maryann Bukala of Escondido; brother Dominick Vacarello of Floral City, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law Josephine and Steve Stanky of Waterford, Pa., Rose and John Stabb of Erie, Pa., and Anna Dominick of James Town, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. and funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary with the Rev. Burt Boudion officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakhill Memorial Park.

Ruth Uhlig, 87
CARLSBAD - Ruth A. Uhlig, 87, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.
Born Dec. 27, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Carlsbad for two years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Uhlig is survived by her husband, John P. Uhlig of Carlsbad; son Ronald Uhlig of Carlsbad; sister Martha Blanke of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18, at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel in Redwood City.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Redwood City. Entombment will follow at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.

William Engelhardt, 74
RAMONA - William D. Engelhardt, 74, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at his home.
Born Sept. 5, 1926, in Bancroft, Neb., he lived in Ramona for three years.
He was a tool and die maker for Solar Turbines in San Diego and served in the U.S. Air Force at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.
He was a member of the Ramona Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening and working on cars.
Mr. Engelhardt is survived by his sons Brian and Brad Engelhardt, both of San Diego; daughter Debbie Blais of San Diego; sister Fern Nolting of Columbus, Ind.; and grandchildren Jeffrey and Ryan Blais and Sarah and Nathan Engelhardt.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Ramona Lutheran Church, 510 16th St., Ramona, CA 92065.

Joyce Reder, 69
WHEATLAND - Joyce A. Reder, 69, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.
Born July 15, 1931, she had lived in Cardiff for 43 years and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Reder was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Reder, in 1976. She is survived by daughters Jean'a Jarrett and Karen Falette, both of Encinitas; son Bill Reder and son-in-law Richard Falette, both of Encinitas; grandchildren Paul Jarrett Jr., Jennifer Reder, Joseph Falette and Anthony Falette; twin sister Joy Straus; brothers Blair Howe and Frank Howe of Oregon.
A private service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley.

Mary Langford, 82
FALLBROOK - Mary Langford, 82, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.
Born Nov. 26, 1918, in Italy, she lived in Fallbrook for five years and was a homemaker for more than 60 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Langford in 1987. She is survived by sons Paul B. Langford Jr., of Menifee, Robert L. Langford of Victorville, William A. Langford of Minooka, Ill., and Rich R. Langford of Victorville; daughters Pauline Krok of Fallbrook and Patricia A. Langford of Merrimack, Wis.; brothers Joseph Monaco of Merrimack, Wis., and Dominic Monaco of Lifle, Ill.; sister Lydia McMillan of Winfield, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Friday, April 13, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego with Dr. Dennis Ginoza officiating. A private cremation is planned.

William Black, 81
FALLBROOK - William Thomas Black, 81, died Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Born May 12, 1919, in Tutwiler, Mass., he lived in Fallbrook for 15 years. He had been a civil engineer for the Office of Federal Inspections for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Arlene Black of Fallbrook; sons Bryce John Black of Arkansaw, Wis., and Ross Allen Black of Lawrence, Kan.; sister Nell Black Person of Clovis; and three grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.

ESCONDIDO - Lawrence Echols Jr., 41, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center of natural causes.
Born Oct. 28, 1959, in Memphis, Tenn., he lived in Escondido. He was a baker for Bimbo Bakeries.
Mr. Echols is survived by his wife of 14 1/2 years, Teresa A. Echols of Escondido; mother Lue City Echols and father Lawrence Echols Sr., both of Red Banks, Mass.; son Vernell Jordan and stepson Rodney E. Blanks, both of Memphis; daughters Lashanua S. Echols and Latasha S. Echols, both of Escondido; stepdaughter Rhonda E. Blanks of Memphis; brother Richard Echols of New York; sisters Sarah J. Smith of Memphis, Joy Zella Echols of Memphis, Wanda Cusseux of Las Vegas, Ruby J. Echols of Memphis, Brenda K. Echols-Kaiser of Memphis, Glenda K. Moore of Holly Springs, Miss. and Pamela R. Holt of Red Banks, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, April 17, at Friendly Church of God and Christ in Oceanside. A private cremation is planned.

Thomas Hieber, 56
OCEANSIDE - Thomas Wendell Hieber, 56, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at University of California San Diego.
Born July 13, 1944, in Maryland, he lived in Oceanside for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Hieber was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Hieber, in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Linda Hieber of Oceanside; father Thomas B. Hieber of Florida; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Ladonna Hieber of Oceanside; daughter Colleen Hieber of Irvine; brother James Hieber of Virginia; sisters Marion Vaughn of Maryland and Janet Hieber of Florida; and grandchildren Jake Hieber and Ashley Lorensen, both of Oceanside.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A private cremation and scattering as sea is planned.

Virginia Gee, 67
APPLE VALLEY - Virginia "Ginny" Gee, 67, died Friday, April 13, 2001, in Escondido, after a long battle with melanoma.
Born April 23, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio, she lived in Apple Valley since 1982.
Mrs. Gee is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Miles Whitty of Escondido, Kathy and Rick Kattar of Boulder, Colo., Chris and Greg Pellizzon of Laguna Hills and Susan and Todd Browne of San Jose; and grandchildren Amber and Jeremy Kattar; Brei, Austin and Brennan Whitty; Michelle and Melanie Pellizzon; and Nicole and Grayson Browne.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at the Apple Valley Country Club.

Robert Scharn, 77
ESCONDIDO - Robert Emmett Scharn, 77, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born June 18, 1923, in Kalispell, Mont., he lived in Escondido for 36 years.
He was a retired engineer for public works for the city of Escondido for 40 years. Mr. Scharn is survived by his wife of 43 years, Hilde Scharn of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Kathleen M. Scharn and Deborah L. and Allen Simon all of Valley Center; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard L. Scharn of San Juan Capistrano, Charles M. and Jan Scharn of Las Vegas and Mary Scharn of Kaweah; sisters and brother-in-law Dorothy L. Scharn of Harbor and Marilyn D. and Dave Scharn-Quinlan of San Diego; and grandchildren Alesha Allen, Megan Allen and Trevor Scharn.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oakhill Memorial Park.

Mildred Redford, 94
OCEANSIDE - Mildred K. Redford, 94, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Brighton Gardens in Carlsbad of natural causes.
Born July 27, 1906, in Trinidad, Colo., she lived in Oceanside for 30 years.
She was a member of Ebell Club of Long Beach, PEO and Presbyterian Church bell choir. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and traveling.
Mrs. Redford was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dwight Redford, on Jan. 6, 1974.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dorothy R. and Edward M. Paterson of Carlsbad; grandchildren Linda Lennertz, Dan E. Paterson, Kent Paterson and Ned Paterson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. today, April 17, at First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside with the Rev. Lewis Leon officiating.
Entombment will take place on Friday, April 20, at Forest Lawn in Long Beach.

Joseph Swiatly, 81
ROMOLAND - Joseph Anthony Swiatly, 81, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City of congestive heart failure.
Born May 27, 1919, in Chicago, he lived in Romoland for nine years. He was a tooling inspector for Hughes Helicopter in Culver City for 20 years. He enjoyed playing the accordion and the horse races.
Mr. Swiatly was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and brothers Frank and Carl. He is survived by son Leo Swiatly of Romoland; sisters Angeline Besco, Shirley Cusick, and Lorraine Wachick, all of Illinois and Elizabeth Fery of Oregon; and one grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 17, at Miller-Jones Mortuary with the Rev. Michael O'Day officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.

Antonia Perez, 96
MENIFEE - Antonia Valona Perez, 96, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar of complications of aging.
Born Jan. 26, 1905, in El Paso, Texas, she lived in Menifee for 12 years. She had been a seamstress for Pomett Manufacturing Co. in Los Angeles for 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and building.
Mrs. Perez was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Alejandro S. Perez; sons John, Joe and Edward Perez; and daughter Angie Perez. She is survived by sons Alex Perez of San Jose, Robert Perez of Hughson and Rudy Perez of Murrieta; daughters Mary Ann Alcantara of La Habra, Thresa Barrera of Modesto, Betty Carlson of Menifee, Ruth De La Rosa of La Habra, Cecelia Perez Hernandez of Wildomar, Dolores Martinez of Norwalk, Irene Perez of Menifee and Mary Helen Resendez of West Covina; 50 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, April 17, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O'Day officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery.

Mary Kuhse, 73
LAKE ELSINORE - Mary Patrica Kuhse, 73, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta of heart failure.
Born May 12, 1927, in Norwood, Mass., she lived in Lake Elsinore for seven years. She was a manager for 20 years. She was a past president of Little League baseball and was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Lake Elsinore.
Mrs. Kuhse was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Kuhse. She is survived by her son, Steven Kuhse of Acton; daughter Cheryl Pastor of Long Beach; and seven grandchildren.

Mark Severtson, 88
MURRIETA - Mark Hanna Severtson, 88, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Hospice of the Valley Residential Care of complications of aging.
Born Nov. 11, 1912, in Middle Port, Wash., he lived in Murrieta for two years. He had lived in Buena Park for more than 20 years, and in Indio for four years before moving to Murrieta. He had been an oil driller for Atlantic Oil Co. for 45 years. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Mr. Severtson was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Edith Severtson; two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his son, Thomas Severtson of Temecula; daughter Lois Cox of Perris; sister Julia Johnson of Riverside, who is 99 years old; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for noon, today, April 17, and memorial service at 1 p.m. at Miller-Jones Mortuary Inc. with the Rev. Gerry McGuinness officiating. Interment icon will be at Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in the name of Mark Severtson to the Diabetes Foundation 1030 S. Arroyo Parkway, Suite 204, Pasadena CA 91105.

Viljo Saari, 90
SUN CITY - Viljo John Saari, 90, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1910, in DeKalb, Ill., he lived in Sun City for 23 years. He worked as a teacher/principal for 35 years for River Grove District 85 1/2 in River Grove, Ill. He was a dual member of the Masonic Lodge. He was past master of the Leyden Lodge in Illinois and a member of Lodge 411 in Sun City. He was a member of North Course Golf Club in Sun City, the billiard club and the Illinois Club of Sun City.
Mr. Saari is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethyle Saari of Sun City; daughters Sonja Sue Hoch and Diann Jo Richau, both of Upland; sisters Eila Brooks of Richmond, Va., and Lila Toivonen of Sun City; brother Joe Saari of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Dobbs officiating.

Luella Cain, 77
ESCONDIDO - Luella Cain, 77, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home.
Born Sept. 26, 1923, in Dillard, Okla., she lived in Escondido for 22 years. She was a homemaker for 57 years.
Mrs. Cain was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd V. Cain, in 1976. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Vaughn Cain Jr. and Renee of Riverside; daughter and son-in-law Ida Jane and Ron Enger of Escondido; brother Blanchard Baxter of Porterville; sisters Christine Thurman of Ringling, Okla., and Melba Gibson of Whichta Falls, Texas; grandchildren Vaughn E. Cain, Lori Leigh Healy, Sean Suetos and Perry Suetos; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and interment is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, April 18, at Woodville Public Cemetery in Woodville with the Rev. Marshall Searcy officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.
