VISTA - John Joseph Muniak, 83, died Friday, April 6, 2001.
Born Jan. 7, 1918, in Wisconsin, he was a resident of Vista for 20 years. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry.
Mr. Muniak is survived by his sister, Helen Parent of Foly, Minn.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 27, at the San Luis Rey Mission Chapel. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.

Wayne Sanders, 83

OCEANSIDE - Wayne Sanders, 83, died Thursday, April 19, 2001.
Born Dec. 6, 1917, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was a retired building contractor. He served with the U. S. Marines, was a police senior volunteer, and a member of the Oceanside Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence Sanders of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Patty Sanders of Reseda; daughter Janet Vaughan of Anaheim Hills; sister Maxine Laughlin of Hilo, Hawaii; grandchildren Brian, Laura, April, Linda, Leann and Craig; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. After a private cremation the cremains will be scattered at sea.
The Neptune Society is handling the arrangements.

Anne Gehl Woolley, 85

RANCHO SANTA FE - Anne Gehl Woolley, 85, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas.
Born July 12, 1915, in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Rancho Santa Fe for 32 years. She was a volunteer for Country Friends in Rancho Santa Fe and a benefactor at Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA and Boys and Girls Club in Encinitas.
Mrs. Woolley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Woolley. She is survived by brother John Gehl of Illinois; and sister Kathryn Foege of Illinois.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Church of Nativity. A private cremation with scattering at sea is planned.
Telophase Cremation Society is handling arrangements.

Marjorie DeWolf, 87
VISTA - Marjorie F. DeWolf, 87, died Monday, April 23, 2001, from complications attributable to heart failure.
She was a member of the Vista Garden Club, the North County Rose Society and various bridge clubs.
Mrs. DeWolf was preceded in death by her son Ronald DeWolf, in 1981. She is survived by her children Gregory DeWolf and Wendy Shaw; grandchildren David, Danyelle and Geoffrey; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Saddleback Chapel in Tustin.

Leo Palmer, 81

POWAY - Leo A. Palmer, 81, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Pomerado Hospital.
Born April 9, 1920, in Heber Springs, Ark., he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a gunner's mate 2nd class, and received the World War II Victory Medal and the American & Asiatic-Pacific Are medal with two stars. He was employed for Ben F. Smith, Inc. as a concrete construction field superintendent for 37 years and was a member of the Carpenter's Union for 37 years. He was a member of the Al Bahr Shrine where he served as a director, and the John Spreckels Masonic Lodge No. 657 in San Diego, and was an active member of the Alvarado Baptist Church where he had been a deacon. He enjoyed both freshwater and ocean fishing.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary M. Palmer of Ramona; son David Palmer of San Diego; daughter Catherine Hittle of Lawton, Okla.; brother Carl C. Palmer of Apple Valley; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 26, at Nuevo Memory Gardens Cemetery in Ramona with full military honors. Burial will follow.
The family suggests donations to the Al Bahr Shrine for the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 5440 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA 92111 or to the Diabetes Foundation.

Kenneth Stalker, 88
Kenneth V. Stalker, 88, died Friday, April 20, 2001.
Born July 2, 1912, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, he was a drummer on cruise ships and played with dance bands in and around New York in the 1930s. He also played in the band at the Joslyn Senior Center in Escondido from 1975 to 1990.
Mr. Stalker is survived by his son, Lance Stalker of Escondido; grandchildren Kent Stalker of San Marcos and Rene Bailey of Citrus Heights; and four great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.

Guy Dunbar, 98

ENCINITAS - Guy Dunbar, 98, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in an Encinitas assisted living facility.
Born in Led Ford, Ill., he had lived in the area for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivor Association Fleet Reserve.
Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his son, R.J. Dunbar. He is survived by his daughter-in-law P.A. Dunbar of Carlsbad; grandchildren T.M. Dunbar of Anchorage, Alaska and David Dunbar of Anza; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on April 12, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego with full military honors.
Encinitas Mortuary handled arrangements.

Blanche Black, 96
OCEANSIDE - Blanche Hancock Pinney Black, 96, died Sunday, April 15, 2001 in Oceanside.
Born Feb. 23, 1901, in Park City, Utah, she retired from the Pinney Beverage Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1955. She was affiliated with Forrest Home and Oceana Sags.
Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband William A. Black, in 1997 and her first husband, Kenneth J. Pinney, in 1950. She is survived by her sons Robert H. Pinney of Wheaton, Ill., and David J. Pinney of Encinitas; daughter and son-in-law Rhea Jane Pinney and Dr. Terry A. Reed of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.
Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Willard Meneley, 74

OCEANSIDE - Willard "Bud" Meneley, 74, died Friday, April 20, 2001.
Born July 15, 1926, in Genoa, Nev., he lived in Oceanside for six years.
He was an insurance broker, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Meneley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lyn Meneley of Oceanside; sons Bruce Meneley of Escondido and Mark Meneley of Merrit Island, Fla.; daughter Kim Starling of Estes Park, Colo.; and brother Charles Meneley of Scottsdale, Ariz.
A private cremation is planned.

John Major 87

RANCHO SANTA FE - John Joseph Major, 87, died Monday, April 23, 2001, in a Del Mar care center.
Born March 19, 1914, in New York City, he lived in Rancho Santa Fe for three years. He was a retired general contractor.
Mr. Major is survived by his daughter, Jan Cowin of Long Beach; son John Major of Rancho Santa Fe; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Village Community Presbyterian Church. A private cremation was held.

Raymond Hightower, 89

ESCONDIDO - Raymond Hightower, 89, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Restful Homes in Vista.
Born Aug. 22, 1911, in Texas, he lived in Escondido for 50 years. He retired in 1980 from The Wardrobe. He served in the U.S. Army 187th Glider Infantry Regiment during World War II and received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Hightower was preceded in death by his wife, Anna May Hightower, on Sept. 18, 1999. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Powell and Mona Hightower of Santa Barbara and sister and brother-in-law Jean and Charles Broska of Carlsbad.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today, April 26, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today, April 26, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Wesley Hill of St. Andrews Episcopal Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Alzheimer's Association of San Diego, 8514 Commerce Ave., San Diego, CA 92121.

Rosalie Victoria Sanchez

Rosalie V. Sanchez passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 22, 2001, from cancer.
Rosalie was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Belvedere Township. She lived in Oceanside for 22 years while working as a home health aide and enjoying her life with her children.
Rosalie leaves behind her five daughters, Ramona Clark of Oceanside, Veronica Sanchez of Oceanside, Sheila Sanchez of Oceanside, Christina Sanchez of Oceanside and Celena Sanchez of Oceanside. Rosalie also leaves behind four sons, Jesse Hernandez of Bloomington, David Hernandez of Bassett, Mark Sanchez of Exeter and Rodney Sanchez of Bakersfield. Rosalie was blessed with an additional 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1930 Avenida Del Oro, in Oceanside, on Saturday, April 28, at 4 p.m.
Mother, we know you are just sleeping in the memory of Jehovah God awaiting the time to be awakened into a paradise earth, when we will see your smiling face again free from sickness and suffering. When we will hear your voice, laugh with you, talk with you, to have you as a part of our children's lives so they too can experience you as we have. We will press on, as you would have wanted us to, keeping your memories and teachings close to our hearts. We have come to realize the extent of your teachings, and not a day passes without a thought of you; remembering, hearing your voice within us, awaiting the day when "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5:28, 29.

Barbara Rafferty Bostrom

Barbara Bostrom, 62, of Yuma, Ariz., died April 11, at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas. She had fought a valiant two year battle with cancer. She was born in Jena, La. She was living with her daughter in Carlsbad.
Retired from years in retail sales, she had recently worked as an administrator at a women's shelter in Yuma.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jonny Rafferty and her husband, Wellington H. "Pete" Bostrom.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jim Hallaux; son Joe Rafferty; brothers James, David, Robert, Gary and Paul Colvin; and grandson Joseph Hallaux, all from San Diego County; sister Linda Hickey of Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 14, with private cremation to follow. An angel among us, we will miss her loving ways, warm hugs and sweet smiles. She was loved.

Gloria Perez, 42

VISTA - Gloria Perez, 42, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at her home.

Born April 29, 1958, in Queretaro, Mexico, she lived in Vista for one year and in San Marcos for eight years.

She worked at various beauty salons for nine years.

Mrs. Perez is survived by her mother, Guadalupe Ordonez Colin of Mexico; father Pedro Perez Mejia of Mexico; sons Horus Ocampo, Edwin Ocampo and Abraham Ocampo, all of Vista; daughters Isis Ocampo, Gloria Ocampo and Yazmin Perez, all of Vista; brothers Adrian Perez Ordonez of Mexico and Gil Perez Ordonez of Vista; sisters Magdalena Perez Ordonez of Mexico, Isabel Perez Ordonez of Vista, Virginia Perez Ordonez of Mexico, Isidora Perez Ordonez of Mexico, Eufemia Perez Ordonez of Oceanside and Angelina Perez Ordonez of Vista.

Visitation was held at 5 p.m. and funeral service at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Iglecia Del Senor Jesus with the Rev. Roberto Morales officiating.

A graveside service will take place at 9 a.m. today, April 27, at San Marcos District Cemetery in San Marcos with Morales officiating.

Frank Reavell, 86

ENCINITAS - Frank Reavell, 86, died Monday, April 22, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center of Parkinsonšs disease.

Born March 18, 1915, in England, he lived in Encinitas for 46 years.

He retired in 1981 from Convair Astronautics in San Diego. He had worked for Marconi Instruments.

Mr. Reavell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Reavell of San Marcos; daughters Morwenna of Oceanside and Walid Assaf of Oceanside; grandchildren Michael J. Nevitt, Teresa Lynn Manchester, Mark S. Nevitt, Jacqueline Marie Price and Morwenna Renee Besso; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private cremation with cremains scattered is planned. Inurnment will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsonšs Research, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163.

Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.
